All of the pastries here look amazing and seem to be fresh. Quality is good. This is a hard review for me to write because I didn't not love the products even though I am giving a 4 star. I believe it's because of my taste profile. I prefer things to have a bit more chocolate taste or a bit more frosting maybe in the middle to counter the light taste of the product. This was the first time having these types of pastries, and I believe they were made well and tasted as intended leading most people to enjoy them more than I did. You'd think that since we're at a casino, that they would have the best of the best in terms of food. The roast pork was good, but not the best I've had. Chinatown shops in Boston do it best. The milk tea was good, but the boba was bad. It was squishy but had that extra layer of film like it was over soaked in water for an extra day. I'm okay with this. Stopped in to pick up some cakes and pastries. It was around 530pm and their stock seemed low which we can understand with its popularity. Picked up a couple small cakes and some pastries to go. Liked that they packed the cakes in a nice decorated small cake box so the cakes wouldn't fall over. Didn't notice there prices till we got home, I guess inflation is setting in here too. Every time my family does our annual birthday shenanigans at Foxwoods, I have to find Fay Da Bakery. And I do mean find -- because getting around Foxwoods feels like being trapped in a very luxurious maze where your only prize is carbs (and I'm not mad about it). Once you finally stumble upon Fay Da (cue the heavenly choir music), it's game time: grab a tray, parchment paper, and tongs, and pretend you're on an episode of "Supermarket Sweep." I immediately load up on a roast pork bun and a hotdog bun -- non-negotiable. They taste like pure NYC Chinatown nostalgia, which is my love language. I also grabbed a lychee green tea, and let me tell you -- if you like sweet tea, this thing will have you questioning your loyalty to every other beverage you've ever loved. It's that good. The cashiers are always nice and polite. I always feel bad when they are bagging all the buns I stacked on my tray. Bottom line: getting lost is totally worth it. Service was polite, fast, and accurate. My wife got a milk tea with boba, and a coffee cake. The tea was what you'd expect, definitely hit the spot, nothing to complain about. The coffee cake was pretty underwhelming though, which is unfortunate because we both thought we remembered all the baked goods being amazing here. It just didn't have much flavor and certainly didn't taste like a traditional coffee cake. We'll try again for sure, it's worth stopping in even though today's visit wasn't quite the best we've had here. The best garage to park in for this bakery is Rainmaker Garage, but you'll still have to do a little bit of walking to get here. read more

The Pork Bun and Roasted Pork Puff were delicious! The Curry Beef puff was okay, and the Ham and Cheese croissant was good but could've used more meat. The tapioca pearls in my Mango Green Tea were stuck together in one large lump so it was kind of hard to drink. The flan was flavorless, hard gelatin and the opera cake was a little dense. The baked goods at Fay Day Bakery are always good, so I have no complaints about the pastries here. I would definitely recommend getting them. I'm giving them 2 stars because of their customer service. And, I am writing this review to give a heads up about a few things if you plan to go here. They charge you for ice. - We got drinks because we thought that they would give us ice for those purchased drinks. I asked for a large cup of ice and it was $1. - However, they didn't even ask me, "It will be $1 for each cup, would you still like it?" They just gave it to us and charged us. - If you need ice for your drinks, I suggest going to Dunkin Donuts. They usually don't charge you for ice, but not too sure about the one at the casino. Also, the cashier charged us for ten cents for a bag. - I know that ten cents is not a lot, but they should ask and not just charge you. We could have easily carried our stuff. Lastly, if you order bubble tea, they give you a paper straw. - This makes it impossible to drink your bubble tea because the straw gets wet quickly and the boba won't be able to get through or will get stuck. - I understand the reason for giving paper straws, but for the other drink straws, they gave regular straws, so I don't understand why they gave straws that are impossible to use for bubble tea. So, if you are planning to go here, please keep track of what they are charging you and if you are getting bubble tea, you'll have to drink quickly or suffer with the paper straw. read more

New Years Eve, 1030 at night and they had heavenly desserts. I chose the strawberry cake and the red velvet cake. The strawberry cake one hands-down. Very light fluffy and tasty. There wasn't a lot of seating here so I sat outside of the restaurant on a bench enjoyed a couple bites with my cup of coffee that I got from the restaurant. Fay Da Bakery adds variety when it comes to desserts at Foxwoods. This Chinese bakery is located across from Noodles in Rainmaker Square. These pastries are in a visible display case with clear translated labels so you can swing by, grab the buns, egg custards, sesame balls or sponge cakes with their handy-dandy plastic tongs near the bags and trays. Or if you're fancying those Asian picturesque cakes with those delicate frosting, mousse, or fruit tarts, they're located behind the counter. Just bear in mind, the prices are much higher here than a typical bakery in Chinatown. Hot Grass Jelly Milk Tea- It's simply just a grass jelly tea bag with milk which was okay. Could be worst and be a powdered drink. Hot Dog Bun- The bun is sweet but a little stale and the hot dog was dry like it's been sitting there for awhile. Overall Service: Old Asian people who are rushing to get back to gambling really don't care if you're waiting in line, oh they'll cut you. With that being said, you would think the cashier would say something. Nope! Most of the staff were friendly and the variety of pastries were abundant for a small store. It had everything you expect to see at a Chinese bakery. Fay Da has so much to choose from!! Last time I went I got the matcha cheesecake and a Thai tea with tapioca! Both were delicious, especially the cheesecake which was super moist. The Thai tea was really yummy, but my boyfriend and his sister both got fruit teas with tapioca and they were VERY sweet, but if you have a sweet tooth I'd go for it! As a child of Chinatown, I was beyond excited to see a Fay Da inside of Foxwoods. I was ready to blow all my money on delicious Asian pastries instead of at the slots! I exercised some unusual self restraint though and only got one pastry Friday night and two more for breakfast the following morning. The ones I got (pea and scallion twist, baked char siu bao, and milk cream bun) were all on par with what you would get in Chinatown. The milk cream bun, which I had never actually had before, was my personal favorite--the perfect breakfast! However, I docked off a star because prices are at least 2x what they are in Chinatown (well duh, it's a casino, what was I expecting?) Instead of 99 cents per pastry, it's about $2.00-2.50, so it's not quite the bargain you would expect out of an Asian bakery. Some of the pastries were way overpriced. $2 for an egg custard tart? Ouch. They're banking on the nostalgic desperation of their Asian clientele and unfortunately it got me good....however, it is substantially cheaper than anything else in the casino, and makes an excellent cheap breakfast or lunch option. If you're Asian, this place is (almost) legit! If you're not, then I'd strongly recommend checking this place out and sampling some yummy Asian baked goods that you won't get anywhere else outside of Chinatown. read more

Fay Da Bakery has all of the classic Chinese baked items you would come to expect: Cantonese Egg Tart, Flavored Mochi Balls, Melon Pan, and so much more. While they have the variety, most of the items I picked seemed a bit more on the stale side. That being said, I came during the end of the day and the baked goods no doubt had time to sit. Their baked creations which they kept hot held up well, with their beef curry puff pastry being some of the best I have had (flaky, crispy, and filled to the brim with curry beef)! As an added bonus, they also serve a large variety of bubble teas and smoothies. The bubble tea was serviceable enough, though the boba themselves were a bit on the overcooked side. Nevertheless, they still retained some of their "bounce" and were definitely soaked in honey. I would likely come to Fay Da again the next time I frequent Foxwoods and its a welcome site given how rare Chinese baked goods are in CT! read more

I think a lot of people are giving this place high marks based on childhood nostalgia and not based on baking quality. Because when compared to other pastries of the world Chinese pastry ranks at the bottom of my barrel. I hate to burst my Asian friends' bubble, but Chinese pastry is pretty god awful. If you've ever been to China then you know working with yeast, dairy or creams is not the Chinese people's forte. And those are the building blocks of good pastry. Stuffing pastries with lotus bean paste and taro paste is OK but they're no substitute for more sophisticated fillings like rich chocolates, creams and cheeses. Face it, you're not likely to hear somebody wants to train to be a Chinese pastry chef. French or Vienna pastry chef = yes. Chinese pastry chef = no. So I have a low opinion of Chinese pastry and it boggles my mind when I see people go ga ga over it. I guess if you grew up in some obscure NYC neighborhood and that's all you knew then I can understand how some people might like Fay Da Bakery. Now perhaps it's not fair to compare Chinese pastry to the more superior pastries in the western world. OK so how are their Chinese moon cakes compared to the Chinese moon cakes in NYC? What moon cakes? Ask any employee here and you'll likely receive the same look they gave me... like I had two heads. They never heard of moon cakes here. OK so how does everything taste? It's OK but good luck if you can distinguish the difference between the red bean paste, the black bean paste and any other type of paste. That's because everything in the self serve case tastes exactly the same. They all look the same too. Fay Da makes an attempt to sell some western style desserts but personally I'd stay away from them for the aforementioned reasons. The tables are disgusting, full of crumbs, and shreds of paper napkins. Gross. Connecticut doesn't have a Chinatown per se but every weekend an Asian population swells up temporarily in this part of the state because of the two casinos. They come from Queens. They come Brooklyn. They come from Flushing. They come from everywhere. Everywhere but Connecticut. And for them this places serves them well. For me, I think the pastry is horrible and I'd rather put my money towards one more hand of blackjack. read more

Fay Da bakery is a smaller version of what you would find in a bigger city. But this Fay Da has an airy feel to it and although the seating is limited I think that the chairs are pretty chic. The girls behind the counter are always super friendly. the pricing is a bit high but I assume that they pay a super high rent to the casino. the pastries are always fresh and picture perfect. Many times I've bought boxes of assorted pastries and cakes for friends and family. They look too good to eat. They're not as sweet as American pastries which is a good thing. I also like that anything with whipped cream on it...it has a lighter texture to it... Not like creamy or too thick. I'm a huge fan of Taro, so I tried the Taro boba frozen drink, the Taro mochi, a Taro bun, and one other Taro ball type thing whose name escapes me. Everything was tasty, the boba had too many bobas just for my personal taste. There were red bean items, and those famous super fluffy pancakey cakes. My friend got a sweet bun that he liked, and my husband s cheese bun that he liked as well. Absolutely poor service. Its best to just buy the food and go. I was craving mochi so I decided to make a stop here. My friend and I had separate trays so I made sure to tell her it's separate orders. I think she was confused and rung it all up. I again mentioned it needs to be separate and she sighed and spoke Chinese to her coworker who then gave me a dirty look. After we spent close to $30, I requested for a cup of water to dine in with and they gave me a small foam cup of water. I went back for a refill and the lady said disgustingly I gave to you already. She then rolled her eyes and nodded her head as if I did something so wrong.. If water was a bad thing to request for its ok to just say no you have to purchase it. Why the disgusting look. I've been in this place many times since they opened and have never had a problem. I visited last night when I was craving something sweet and was browsing around looking at all the choices and ended up with a slice of cake from behind the counter. It said coffee cake but tasted like a mocha cake and was delicious. Only problem was it seemed a little hard, but I think that was from being in the cold case. If I'd had restraint and waited an hour, it would have been just perfect. The store itself was neat and clean, very well stocked with a huge variety of sweet and savory items, both hot and cold. Plenty of drinks available as well and limited seating, but there are tables right across the way outside as well as some benches a little farther down by the window. Customer service was very good considering the person who waited on me spoke no (or very little) English. I'm not sure who complained about the prices but this slice of cake was $2.11 after tax and I couldn't even finish it. No complaints here, I'll be back, this time to buy a few things to bring home! read more

Little difficult to juggle the tray, a pair of tongs to grab an item and then lift the lid on the plexiglass bins, but I guess that is what you have to do. Broad variety of pastries, we tried three and two were good, one was just average. Prices not bad if you are looking for something to eat with a cup of coffee. I recently vacationed at Foxwoods with my family and we wanted a quick breakfast and since Dunkin donuts had a huge line we walked a bit and ended up at this place. I was very impressed by their selection of baked goods and different shakes and smoothies and everything looked really good and very fresh. I had a slice of pound cake and a sweet bun, both were very good. I also got a mango smoothie which was also very tasty and made with real mangos yay! The pork bun is always tasty but my favorite is the chicken puff, and the scallion pea twist makes a nice breakfast the next day.
