I've been to Root Vegan Restaurant three times this week, and every visit has been excellent. The food is always fresh, flavorful, and consistently delicious. This time I ordered the Glow Bowl with quinoa instead of rice, and it was perfect. The balance of quinoa, chickpeas, sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, raisins, and the dressing was just right. The staff is always warm, friendly, and welcoming, which makes the experience even better. I love that the menu never gets boring because everything tastes so fresh and thoughtfully prepared. This place sticks true to their ~roots~ in that everything is super fresh! I got their matcha pineapple sunrise bowl and after talking with the nice staff I learned everything is fresh fruit, no sorbet ingredients used to create the bases like at other places. I told her how I was craving pineapple and she ended up adding some as a topping for me!!! I've also had their grain bowls before as well as their avocado toast and it's unreal. Price is what you would expect, $11-20 per meal item after tip. The portions are huge and everything is fresh so you get what you're paying for. Location is along the classic Broadway strip, lots of stores to jump around. Entrance is handicap accessible, leads you straight to the order counter where there's menus with large print and the staff is helpful. There are a variety of coffee drinks, teas (including matcha) and smoothies available. There's ample seating, including window seating to enjoy people watching. Came here for a quick breakfast meal. Restaurant is very small but has a decent amount of seating. It's run by what looks like a family that was very friendly and warm. We got the avocado and pesto toast. The avocado toast was great, very fresh spread and well flavored on a multigrain bread. Glow bowl was fantastic. My favorite part was the avocado herb dressing. It was very uniquely smooth and satisfying. The ingredients all tasted fresh. You get a choice of quinoa or brown rice. I do wish there was a little bit more grains, as I wasn't quite full afterwards. Acai bowl was even better! It was extremely smooth, and not too sweet. Really really well done. Orange Ya Glad: These juices are also fantastic. I could chug one in seconds, they're so good. Really flavorful. In summary, I'm very satisfied with the freshness of their ingredients and with their prices. The prices are quite fair compared to other breakfast/brunch places. Whoop whoop! Hooray for healthy, plant-based eateries! My sister and I stopped by Root twice during our recent visit to Newport. The first time around I grabbed a Green With Envy smoothie, which includes mango, avocado, orange, lime, mint, and spinach. Super refreshing and delicious. Plus, just the right amount of sweetness. I also ordered the Chickpea Salad Sandwich. This guy contains house chickpea salad, bibb lettuce, tomato, and toasted multigrain. Not my favorite--the chickpea salad was a bit sweet which threw me off--but I inhaled it regardless. The next morning I chose the Frozen Cocoa Bowl. We're talking blended banana, avocado, almond milk, date, maple syrup, cocoa, topped with strawberry, banana, cacao nibs, and coconut. Yummm! I would definitely order the green smoothie and cocoa bowl again, and would be happy to try all of their other tasty-sounding menu items... there's a wide variety! This shop has convinced me that the acai bowl is a must have. My boyfriend and I stopped in before our mansion tour in Newport RI. What a cute little spot. The inside is small and definitely decorated like an instagram spot. I got the acai bowl. The bowl was perfectly blended into a smooth thick consistency. Very important for the spoon-ability of the dish. The bowl had great banana flavor. The toppings added great texture to the dish. It was a light and refreshing breakfast on a very hot summer day. My bf had the coconut BLT. This was an interesting one. The flavors surprisingly worked. Is it really a BLT...? No not really, but an interesting sandwich. I've always been a person who loves vegetables, but as I've gotten older, I've wanted them more and more frequently. I'm definitely not scared of kale, and I love the opportunity to substitute beans and rice or other legumes like lentils instead of meat options. Because of this, we were motivated to find some vegetarian/vegan options and just happened upon Root. When we arrived, we were surprised at how many people were there. Seating is limited, but the place was packed. We sat awhile and looked at the menu and then decided to both get grain bowls and a fresh juice. I ordered the Asian bowl with brown rice and hubby ordered the Greek bowl with brown rice as well and for our fresh juice we ordered the second on the menu. When the food arrived, it was plated beautifully and it was packed with flavorful items. The hummus on hubby's bowl was delicious as well as the vegan yogurt sauce. My bowl had edamame and ginger which was awesome but the best part was a giant pile of kimchi which I really enjoyed. The juice was good as well, similar to what I make at home. Prices are high but what you get is a good product, well-plated, from friendly people, and high-quality ingredients. Downsides are lack of parking on the street, lack of seating indoors, and no restroom so you're just going to have to hold it if you need to go. The owner is military-friendly, as his daughter is in the Navy and they offer a military discount for active duty families which is awesome. We will definitely be returning and can't wait to try more off of their vegan and vegetarian menu. read more

Food: portion size to price ratio was excellent. I chose to get the matcha pineapple smoothie bowl. It was extremely refreshing! 10/10 Service/ambiance: was kind of disappointing, to be honest. I arrived at 4:20 on Friday and was the only customer at the moment. I didn't receive any type of welcoming environment, felt more of a bother to be there. There were two ladies in there, the taller one at the counter told me they were only allowing takeout, which kind of threw me off. The shorter one was wiping down the tables, she was the only one to say hello while smiling (when she came from the back to wipe the tables). The taller one finally acknowledged me, this was only after I stood in-front of the cash register after staring at their wall menu, so that I didn't feel like a bother. Once my order was placed I sat close to the door until the shorter woman brought me my order and handed it to me while telling me to have a good day. Overall, walking in to order felt extremely awkward and uncomfortable but the bowl was good. 5/10. Given that so many of the other reviews on here say they were welcoming and friendly, it took me by surprise that MY experience wasn't the same due to the tone. Root is quickly becoming my favorite lunch spot in Newport! It's a super cute and charming vegan / vegetarian cafe located on Broadway, and they just opened less than a month ago. But don't underestimate these new kids on the block! They've already been featured on the front page of the Newport Daily News, and have an extensive menu with tons of creative and tasty options that are super healthy as well! My go-to is the Glow Bowl, a salad and grain bowl that piles loads of fresh produce on top of your choice of brown rice or quinoa and tender olive oil-massaged kale. The seasonal roasted sweet potatoes add a savory element, alongside shredded carrots and beets, white beans, cabbage, and sweet golden raisins. However, the best part is the homemade avocado herb dressing - imagine the gorgeous lovechild of guacamole and pesto, and that's what it tastes like. Oh my god, I need the recipe NOW! I also tried the Almond Joy Toast, with thick cut, high quality whole grain bread, creamy peanut butter, banana, coconut flakes, cacao nibs, and a drizzle of honey. It's a great way to satisfy a sweet tooth without veering too far off of your diet! Service is super friendly and efficient. The owners, Paul and Kate, take a whole lot of pride in what they're doing, and are awesome people. Great bowls. My fav is the Glow Bowl: white beans, shredded beets, shredded carrots, sweet potato, red cabbage, golden raisins and hemp hearts with brown rice & avocado herb dressing. They add curly kale to the bottom of the bowl & put rice or quinoa on top. Delicious, fresh & filling. Good balance of all ingredients. Consistently yummy. I really appreciated the diversity of non-conventional ingredients they included in their bowls. The staff were very welcoming and friendly! And it has a good flow of people. Chose to go to Root instead of a different juice place because the juice was $13 (what!) at the other place, but a 20 ounce at Root was $10.25 instead. Great choice, really liked this place. The people working were very nice and helpful, and the juices were great (so was the smoothie). After a little while of sitting and sipping, we decided to get some Just Egg sandwiches. Very good, went well with the English muffin, loaded with cheese, and the coconut bacon was excellent, too. 10/10, would be here weekly if I lived in Newport. They thanked everyone authentically for coming in and making an order on the 5th of July. Their passion and drive to serve the community with their kindness is so clear and heartfelt. The smoothies are terrific and well priced and feel free to add to them with their options. I went with the seaside with some pea protein and my fiancée went with the awakening. Delicious and filling. The best part was that the cold brew coffee was some of the best coffee I've ever had. I'd go there every morning if we spend any more time there in the future.
