Prior to the pandemic, Fay Da underwent a rapid expansion across the borough and throughout NYC. One of those locations is here in Woodside, which has steadily beefed up the number of Chinese-owned businesses as the neighborhood continues to gentrify. As NY's most well known Chinese bakery chain, the initial excitement / hype died not long after opening. Fast forward to today and it's become one of their least appealing locations. Many of the buns werre stale, but not nearly as cold as the service. Downhill is a slippery slope and it appears they're skiing to the bottom. On the plus side, the store is actually larger than most locations and as far cleaner than any of the ones in Chinatown or Flushing. There is a limited seating along the wall, but this is primarily a grab and go, especially with its proximity to the subway. The best time to be here is in the morning. Order Hong Kong milk tea and pair it with any of their buns, which are usually made offsite and delivered in the morning. In the afternoon, some of the items are either not available or don't taste as fresh. This is especially the case for the bbq puff pastry, sweet cream buns, or bolo bread. Where they still shine in is their Chinese style fruit and whipped cakes. Many folks will have them customized for special occasions and this is one of their best assets even now. The fact they also provide candles for free is a nice bonus. read more

Order a mango mousse cake, as we wanted a different option from my local bakery in bayside ( french work shop in bayside) The mango mousse was nice a fluffy, the mango mousse was a bit tart and slightly sweet. A very good combination of flavors and the cake was part ratio was just enough to give you a oerfect bite of cake at a half off what i pay at my local bakery. I will have to try the rest of the cakes here as their products are very good. We love coming here after making a trip to see my aunt on the weekends! This location is conveniently located right down the block from the 61st street woodside station on the 7 train. I was quite surprised by how much stuff they still had available on a Sunday afternoon. I am a sucker for their sponge cake, Japanese cheese cake (sadly they were sold out) and green tea Combos. I always pick up a number of sweets as you can never go wrong. They have sweet breads as well as savory ones. I was looking for a cake for Mother's Day. I really wanted a sponge cake since I don't find them as sweet as other cakes and my mom has some health issues and too much sugar isn't good for her. I came in a week before I needed the cake and they took my order. I got the mango cake and it was delicious. Everyone was raving about how great and light the cake was. We visited this bakery on a Saturday afternoon after a long walk. As expected, we were hungry for snacks and this place really hit the spot. All the buns and little cakes/pastries were around $1-$3 each which is amazing for NYC! We literally grabbed an armful. I saw some sliced bread loaves for around $4 too. Also, I tried the soymilk they were selling on a whim, and I had a choice for it to be sweetened or unsweetened (I chose sweetened). Though I've definitely had better buns/pastries and soymilk before, everything was still good especially for the price. They have a decent sized seating area for customers too, and it was pretty clean. The employees were all nice and respectful as well. They seem to have fallen off the conveyor belt of baked goods and drink services. I went inside this chilled morning and after having learned that 99% if not all of their baked goods have lard in them, I stopped eating their foods but continued to consume their drinks. Today I ordered a hot green tea with a little honey and lemon. The woman behind the counter messed up entering the order a few times. Kept repeating iced instead of hot. I figured it was an off day for her. Turns out it's an off day for the whole shop. Finally after she got it right, and payment of $3.50 she handed me my drink with a cardboard sleeve on it and it strangely didn't feel hot but I was in a hurry. When I got to the station platform, I noticed a little black thing on the inner rim of the cup cover. I tried to drag it out with my fingers but it wouldn't budge. I thought it was a bug and then decided maybe it wasn't. I should have stuck to my instincts. I opened the lid and stuck it down in place. I saw the lemon floating on top and noticed there was no steam thus my hot tea was not hot. It wasn't even lukewarm. After I took my first two sips I noticed something floating around above the lemon. Ew!! It's a roach and I have the picture to prove it. They say no refunds or exchanges on the placard in their shop but this definitely deserves a cash refund and no exchanges. I'm already on the train out to work. But I hope they see this review and my recent uploaded photos and make some dire changes. Happy eats! read more

My friends and I visited Fay Da as our first stop on a Queens food crawl. I had just finished an 8 mile run in the morning, so I was looking to absolutely FEAST. My friend told me about Fay Da and I was excited to visit. The first thing that I noticed when I walked into Fay Da was jus how cheap everything is. Buns were around 1-2 dollars, which was an absolute steal. Especially in the capital of overpriced that is New York City, it was nice to buy pastries that didn't break the bank. My friend and I shared a roast pork bun and a beef curry pastry, and both were delicious. We only ended up paying around 3 dollars total, and both of the pastries absolutely hit the spot. I had literally no complaints about Fay Da, and I would totally recommend Fay Da to anyone looking to find some cheap baked goods that still are quite tasty. read more

I've been to this place several times, usually when I'm coming off or on the train at woodside. I am an avid fan of pineapple buns. The best time to eat them are when they are fresh, I like going in the morning. Remember to bring cash. I was really pleased with this place. Everything was very clean. There's only 5 people allowed in at a time and the most important thing to remember is they are cash only and do NOT have an ATM. You walk in a take a plate and tongs and then grab what you want and bring it up to the cash register so the worker can bag it for you. We absolutely loved everything. We got the roast pork and egg custard steamed buns, roast pork triangle, egg tart, sesame ball, milk cream bread, and bubble tea. Overall everything was super good especially the steamed buns. I've always loved getting their fresh fruit and cream cake for birthdays and am glad that there is one in the neighborhood. The cakes are light and fluffy without being overly sweet. A personalized message and candles are included for free. The staff of most chinese bakeries is limited in English but the ladies here are fluent. They are very friendly and the food is cheap and good. When you come in pick up a tray and tongs and pile on what you want. They also sell steamed buns at the counter which are also good. I think that their roast pork puffs are one of my favorite pastries. They are warm delicate flaky pastry filled with roast pork. If you are looking for something really quick and filling this is the place to go. I had such horrible customer service experience tonight. I went in and purchased a bunch of pastries and when I got to the counter, I asked for a "coffee milk tea" under the "tapioca drinks". While we were paying, they placed the drink on the counter and basically threw the straw towards my way. Then, I noticed there were no "bubbles/tapioca" on my coffee milk tea. I asked "there's no tapioca in here?" And they said "NO!" And I replied saying I asked for the coffee milk tea with the tapioca. They said "there's no more tapioca!" I asked why they didn't let me know and they just said no tapioca. I said I wanted to get my money back and they said no. I know it's something little but it's the principle of it. They didn't want to accommodate and they didn't inform me that there was no tapioca. So I basically just paid for an iced coffee type of drink. And they didn't even offer to either exchange the fact there's no tapioca to grass jelly or even change my drink choice. And they were laughing when I walked out. Such HORRIBLE experience. I am so disappointed because I've never experienced such horrible customer service from the times I've purchased from Fay Da Bakery. Whoever was the 2 workers working around 6-6:30pm at the WOODSIDE location, they were not friendly at all. read more

It's a Chinese bakery with lots of cakes and various breads; you can get a loaf of bread, a hot dog in a roll, sesame balls, sandwiches, they even have some pork/veggie/chicken steamed buns. You can get coffee, tea, bubble tea, soy milk, a shot of cold matcha in a can. There are some tables and chairs if you want to causally enjoy your snack/lunch/dinner. Cash only. And I don't think they will ever change that, although when they initially opened they told me they would. I like getting the fried fish sandwich. It's not hot, just slightly warm. They put some tartar sauce on it that gives it a tad of that relishy sweetness. The bread is soft and there's lettuce; it's just my go to comfort food when I feel like I want those cheap, fulfilling carbs. I also like the sesame balls. Slightly sweet and crispy on the outside, covered in those nutty little sesame seeds, and evenly textured and springy on the inside. I can also recommend the loaf of wheat or raisin bread, the walnut and chocolate bread, matcha cheesecake, even the hot dog in the bun is a guilty, dirty, cheap pleasure of mine. I'm not a fan of sponge cakes from Chinese bakeries, but some of the cakes look pretty appetizing. Prices are nice and low. I'm not 100% sure about the quality (I'm sure it's all enriched bleached flour and maybe semi real meat). It's not an American bakery, so the taste is definitely different, but you gotta respect it for what it is. read more

My go-to bakery in the local neighborhood. I was so happy when Fayda opened up in Woodside- they sell fresh bread and delicious cakes. Need a quick breakfast? Grab an egg tart, coconut tart, pork floss bun or a scallion pea twist (if you like green onions, this is the one). Pair it with a coffee milk tea (it is sweetened). Affordable breakfast right there! Celebrating a birthday or an occasion? Pick up an already made cake or go in to order a custom cake, they start at around 30$. The cake is spongy, the frosting is light and whipped. From the display case, their rolled caked and baby cheesecakes are my fave! Their "pullman" bread (white bread) is awesome to buy for home, toast it and add some butter or jam- delicious. They are cash only, and be mindful about the # of people in the store. They say 5 but it's not strictly enforced. This is one of the cutest newer additions to Woodside. I would have to travel to Flushing to get pastries and now having this down the street is a true delight! This is my favorite Asian bakery in Woodside (so far lol). This place is pretty new to the neighborhood and therefore very clean. There are a good amount of fresh baked goods to choose from as well as other assortments such as cookies & bread that are pre packaged. At the counter, they also have more choices such as roast pork buns, chicken buns etc along with coffee and bubble tea! Fay Da is quite affordable with each item averaging about $1.50. Most of the time, I'll get about 4-5 baked goods and 2 coffees which add up to about $10 or so. I've only been here early in the morning on weekends so far when it's quite slow and everything is super fresh. Not sure how busy it gets throughout the day. So happy they had opened a Fay Da in Woodside. I've been coming here pretty often since their opening. My go-tos are the hot dog buns, tiramisu (in the refrigerated section), egg tarts, red bean smoothies, and coffee milk tea with less sugar. The staff at this Fay Da are extremely friendly and nice. Love, love, love this place. I'm happy found it. My husband and I used to go to flushing for the bakeries now we have one right here in Woodside a short walk away. The food is excellent - always fresh, the place is clean and the employees are friendly and helpful. My favorites there are the hot dog rolls and the egg custard steamed buns. The cakes are amazing too. The Valentine's cake I got was perfect. Melt in your mouth chocolate outside, light and fluffy inside and a nice little piece of "I love you chocolate" on top.
