I really like the stuffed shells and got the cheaper one with the fettuccine Alfredo with one shell, liked it so much that I returned 2 days later to get the shrimp with shells. These are very good. I drove home to Ames, slowly because of the snow, and the food was still hot. Nicely stuffed shells with ricotta cheese and Parmesan, I think. The shrimp was very good as well. The one thing I do wish they'd do, is go back to the way they used to make the breadsticks-half baked, in garlic butter, then heavily soak in the same garlic butter. I got the classic combo (I think that's what it's called) where you get 3 smaller portions of pasta. Great for sampling different flavors! 1) Alfredo ! My most favorite on the plate ! 2) lasagna- normally a sin in my house to not have home made lasagna- I would get this again. More layers than expected. 3) spaghetti with meatball. Standard pasta. Hated the meatball I described it to my husband as "pressed cat food pate" I'm sure it's the same meat they use in everything else and it work. Just doesn't work as a large chunk of meat for me. I work for Fedex and we ordered a 6 big pan catering. Ashley the GM delivered it personally and was super helpful in setting it up. She was also very accommodating and brought us breadsticks without butter for our people who couldn't do garlic. The food was hot and delicious. The service was very attentive. Members of management were active on both the front line and in the dining room, whether it was serving breadsticks or giving direction to their team members. That was pleasant to see and is just about the only highlight of the experience. I think Fazoli's has paid to much attention trying to be Panera with the real plates and real silverware--and not enough on the food. Ravioli was bland; the filling was lifeless. A defibrillator would not have revived the pasta or the sauce. The salad could use quite a bit of improvement. Some sad Romaine lettuce, a smack of shredded mozzarella, and two grape tomatoes don't make a salad. Needed something to add color--onion, cucumber, etc. I used the balsamic vinaigrette dressing (comes in packets) and the dressing was nothing spectacular either. No herbs or seasonings came through; the dressing tasted like someone just dumped cruets of oil and vinegar together and called it a dressing. For the price, (I dropped $11), you're just as well going off to Olive Garden for the same tasteless experience; at least they have Zuppa Toscana there and its unlimited. read more

I went to Fazoli's in Ankeny on 1st Street. When I was there I noticed the sign that says this, buy $20 in gift cards and get $5 off your next visit. When I went in I bought 4 $25 gift cards and two $50 gift cards totaling $200 in gift cards. They gave me six $5 cards. I told them the sign says $5 for every 20 I should have gotten 10. They said no you get a $5 card with every purchase of a card that's $20 or more, so since I only had six cards I only get six $5 coupons. I told them the sign says $5 for every $20, and every time they would read the sign back to me they would say no it's $5 for every $20 card or more, and that's not what the sign says. I asked them if I were to come in here and buy 10, $20 cards would I get 10 of them? They said yes. So I said I want a refund on these cards and I'll come back in and buy them that way and they told me I couldn't get a refund on cards already purchased. I have to talk to the manager they said the manager was not there. I got in my car and left and called within 5 minutes asked to talk to the manager and he answered the phone. When I told him I should have gotten 10 he would come out and read the sign again to me and he would read with the purchase of $20 "or more"which is not what the sign says. Only after telling the manager I would turn him into the Better Business Bureau ect. because this sign is false advertisement he offered to give me the other 4, $5 cards. Driving in the car through Iowa these pop up on freeway food signs. About 14 years ago there was a Fazoli's on Robert Street in West St Paul, MN and I miss it. We did drive thru as I abhor McDonald's in the worst way. Ordered chicken Alfredo with bacon, brocolli, and mushrooms. Also ordered a side salad with Caesar. We had been traveling and eating out for 5 days. My son ordered spaghetti and meatballs. The breadsticks were soft and garlickly with butter on them. Yummy. I ate half while husband drove. We switched drivers and he enjoyed the rest. Fazoli's are fast food Italian restaurants found in Iowa as MN location left. read more

if i could give this place negative stars I GLADLY WOULD!!! i ordered the crispy chicken bacon ranch salad and had it delivered to my work. as i started eating it i noticed something odd looking in the salad and i told my coworkers because it didn't blend with the salad. there was nothing black in my salad besides this little thing i seen. i take it out and all my coworkers say it's a bug. they turned flashlights on it and kept repeating that it was a bug. i called the store and was immediately laughed at by 2 female servers or cashiers whoever it was that answered the phone, she was having a conversation in the background laughing about how i placed the bug in the food. then the manager proceeds to tell me that he can't give me a refund and that he doesn't know what it is that's in my food. i proceeded to have a screaming match and cursing the manager out for not listening to anything i said and he had no concern for my health or the quality of the food he was serving to locals. might i add i have a stomach disease that prevents me from eating a lot of food, i specifically ordered a salad because i couldn't eat the mexican food that was being provided to us at work. this was my first time ever ordering and eating something from fazolis and let me tell you i will NEVER be returning. they have the absolute worst customer service, they have the rudest workers, the worst manager, and disgusting food infested with bugs. It's easy to rip on a chain and I don't feel good about it, especially because it's not a big name. That being said, the food is really terrible. I had the sampler, which gives me ravioli, a piece of pizza, breadsticks, and lasagna. The sauce had no flavor. The pasta itself was up there with microwave dinners. The pizza tasted like one of those microwaveable single serving pizzas I ate in college when I had no other choice. I love Fazoli's especially their breadsticks, however this must be the slowest location I have ever been to. We went through the drive thru and it took almost 10 minutes for our food. They didn't apologize or anything either. So service was definitely lacking. The food was good, the salad was a little wilted but I don't expect a lot from fast food salad. I've been to multiple Fazolis and this one does not stand out from the others, great food, fast and a comfortable atmosphere. No issues experienced. A Few years ago I did not know what Fazoli really served so I decided to try it out. The food is good, but does not taste restaurant-quality, which is expected because it is a Italian fast food establishment. The food tasted better than other fast food places, served on real plates and silverware. Fazolis is a order at the counter place, not sit down and order restaurant. I've been to Fazolis a few times for dine-in, but today I went through the drive-through to pick up some lunch for me and my coworker. I asked for a receipt and they could not provide one. How is that even possible? In the 7ish minutes it took me to get back to the office, the food was cold and the sauce was congealing into an unappealing mess. The bread sticks had turned into more like pretzels, they had soaked up the oil and were super hard. Fazoli's is my favorite place to eat. It no longer exists in AZ so when I saw this location while traveling, I lost my mind! The food has changed a bit. But it was still delicious. I found the service to be great! I asked for breadsticks, and was informed they were just coming out of the oven. When they did come out, they brought a huge pile of breadsticks. Got the endless pasta and had the alfredo and creamy basil penne both with chicken. Both were very good and I would definitely recommend. Plus Ryan who is one the employees in the Ankeny store did a great job taking care of whatever we needed without being invasive or pushy.
