We came in at 7:30 on a Saturday night. It took a few minutes for a waiter to come to acknowledge us and a few more for them to clear a table, but we were seated reasonably quickly. The interior of this restaurant was soooo pretty. We started off with the scallion pancake and pork belly buns, and they were really good! The pork belly was a little dry though. We also got the chilly chili glass noodles, but we unfortunately did not like the flavor and the noodles weren't like the see-through glass noodles we expected. The potstickers were really flavorful, but I felt like the crust was too fried and burnt. The star of the show is definitely the xiao long bao! Awesome soup, flavorful meat. I'm always excited to try restaurants on Willy St. in Madison, known for its trendy and international food, so when we decided to go to Feast I had optimism for a good meal. We made reservations online, and were promptly seated when we arrived. Although the restaurant was not full, we were seated in a fairly full section (I assume due to staffing). But our server was nice and attentive. They were out of many of the items on the menu, but fortunately for us none of the ones I wanted were nixed. One of the down sides of their soup dumplings is that they're all meat based. We weren't the only table to ask. But for most people this isn't a consideration. We ordered a cocktail and a green tea. The tea was very good and came in a fun pot. Much of the food was good, although the tofu options were basically the same thing across multiple dishes (not a lot of variety). We ordered four dishes to share: vegetable spring rolls (which were big and good), scallion pancakes (which were very small and didn't taste of scallion at all), tofu buns (which were tasty but buns were over-steamed and soggy), and veggie potstickers. Great food, okay service. We were seated pretty quickly while waiting for some friends but it was at least 20 minutes before we had our drink orders in and our table was right by the door so it was quite cold during our wait. I appreciated the tea menu and the Dragon fruit tea was delicious! Other highlights were the pot stickers and the pork/morel soup dumplings - both super flavorful and the pot stickers were nice and crunchy. The Szechuan won tons were also really tasty and not too spicy. As a dessert, the sesame balls with Nutella were just okay. The decor of the restaurant is really lovely and there's several fun statues around that make for good photo opportunities - there were some groups that took advantage of that while we were there! read more

I've been here twice now, and have enjoyed the meal both times. Our family tends to feel like we perhaps ordered too much, but it turns out just right! The restaurant has a cool vibe; a little dark with deep reds in the decor. It can be cool; bring a layer. I'm a huge fan of their Thai iced tea. My favorite on the menu - soup dumplings and potstickers. You almost feel bad about breaking the cool lattice pattern on the potstickers to dig in! We have tried the wontons (both ways), rice shumai, scallion pancake, crab Rangoon, and tofu buns. Our service has been friendly both times. I did have to chase down some spoons for the soup dumplings once on the busier night we were there. We came here for a couple appetizers and loved the food! It was an early Saturday evening when we walked in and we didn't have a reservation. When we were greeted they said if we didn't have a reservation they couldn't seat us (even though there were many open tables) but we could sit at the bar. I was surprised by this but we had a lot of fun just sitting up at the bar. We each had a beer and then enjoyed the Tofu Buns and the Peas, Corn & Carrot Potstickers. I appreciated how they spaced out our 2 appetizers instead of bringing them both at once. The Tofu Buns are my new faves. The veggies were incredibly fresh and crunchy and the bun was puffy and delicious. We also really enjoyed the potstickers, it was my first time having pan-fried potstickers and I loved them. The staff was friendly and the space had a great vibe. It looked like they had a small patio seating space we want to try next time. I dined in on a Saturday evening. The place was not super busy. I went with some of the crowd favotites. Black truffle Xiao long bao is probably my favorite item here. This dish is a very tough to make item. And it is not as good as the ones I used to have in NYC. But this is the best I had in Madison. It was well made, flavorful and had enough soup inside. Feast is one of my favorite restaurants in Madison, and the food here never misses! I do wish they had a vegetarian or pescatarian option for the xiao long bao, but besides that the menu is incredible & there are SO many fantastic food & drink options. The scallion pancakes may be the best I've had & I love their crab Rangoon. The veggie potstickers I had were also very good, and I've loved the fish bao that they've had in the past. The dragonfruit tea is delicious as well. The atmosphere in the restaurant is always gorgeous. I will say that the service that I had the last time I ate here wasn't outstanding. Our server did not refill our waters at all or check in about how the food was, and they weren't particularly friendly. I often recommend this restaurant to friends and family, so it was disappointing that the service was so inattentive. Well, I was in a hospital in Madison and released around the lunch hour so asked to be taken here for lunch. We were not disappointed. First tried the steamed buns with pork belly. My husband said he could just order a few of those for a whole meal. We got an appetizer of 2. They were delicious. I ordered dumplings with pork and sauerkraut. I got a weird look from my husband but I like to try new things. They were actually pretty good with just a hint of the sauerkraut. The dipping sauces were tasty too. My husband ordered wontons, which were tasty also. We had a doggie bag with 1/2 the dumplings and wontons left for another meal at home. I also had a peach green tea I enjoyed. Next we tackled their California style Bowl (nice and fresh), potstickers (awesome!), Bao (chicken and onions and was my favorite), and the chicken wonton (very good broth). The crab rangoon were delicious, with the perfect portion of stuffing. But my favorites were the fried fish balls, which were divine little bites - I highly recommend these!! In terms of dumplings, we had: pork, shrimp, and chive; pork, scallop, and chive; seafood dumplings; and the veggie dumplings. By far, my favorites were the pork and scallop, as well as the seafood dumplings. But really none of them disappointed! To drink, there was a long list of teas to choose from, but I ended up selecting a drink similar to a lychee martini. So happy I went to Feast today! First time here and it is restaurant week so I was able to try quite a variety. Scallop shumai was a perfect starter. Then pork belly buns (the best I have had in years). Washed them down with a "Just Melon" cocktail. So refreshing! It has muddled kiwi, chareau, melon and cucumber topped off with Hilo Vodka. All the flavors came together so well! For the main course, I had the Signature Ocean Feast poke bowl. Crab, shrimp and a generous amount of tuna on a bed of jasmine rice and cucumber, with shoyu, wasabi mayo and pickled ginger, topped with delicate crispy onions. A perfect combination. 4 stars for the food but 5 stars for the overall experience. I brought my wife for a dinner date. The decor set the tone of the meal nicely with lots of blacks and reds studded with various Chinese artwork. There was plenty of seating on a Sunday night and our waiter checked in on us frequently. Their tea list had a variety of choices ranging from earl gray to green tea to some complex herbal blends. Each tea came with a paragraph's worth of description and a rating of the caffeine content form high to low. We started off with a pot of jasmine green tea served in a black ceramic pot, with instructions to steep for 4 minutes. Without using too many flowery tea descriptors (pun intended as it was nice and floral), the tea was tangibly superior to the standard green tea that you can get at most Chinese restaurants. For starters, we ordered the garlic edamame and vegetable spring rolls. The edamame was absolutely smothered in savory cooked garlic. The spring rolls were crisp, drizzled in sweet chili sauce and stuffed full of mushrooms. For our dumpling course, we ordered the rice shu mai, traditional three-ingredient dumplings, and vegan dumplings. The shu mai was completely different than any other I'd had; instead of a ground pork and shrimp meatball, they were filled with rice and mushrooms, steamed and served with garlic chili sauce and hoisin sauce. They were a fun novelty but were messy to eat as the rice spilled out of the dumpling wrapper easily, and weren't as savory as the standard variety. We ordered the other dumplings pan-fried. The three ingredient traditional dumplings contained pork, shrimp, and chives. They were good, not great, but better than the large majority of dumplings that I've had in the Midwest. The vegan dumplings contained corn, carrot, and peas, and tasted as you would expect with just those three ingredients. For dessert, we had matcha tiramisu. The spongy cake was soaked in tea instead of coffee, with matcha powder sprinkled on top. I thought this was a really clever twist on a classic dessert and it was executed well. We left happy and full. We could have done with maybe one less appetizer, but that still means it would have taken about 3 orders of dumplings, an appetizer, and a dessert to leave full. The cost for the meal was about $60 before tax and tip; a little higher than your average dinner out in Madison, but for the experience overall it was worth it. This is the kind of establishment that puts attention into the small details. We will be back. read more

Delicious dinner on a busy Friday night. We had the Big Frog and Classic Hawaii Poke bowls, and Pork and black truffle dumplings. All were fantastic, full of complex flavors. The Classic Hawaii had a real kick due to the many jalapeño slices, but in a good way. Our only complaint is that the dumplings arrived late, after the rest of us were just finishing up our meals. I am considering booking a flight back to Wisconsin solely to have another meal here! The restaurant is extremely unassuming as it has a narrow front side with an outside seating area that is somewhat hidden from the street side. We went in on a whim after seeing that they had homemade dumplings. We ordered the iced teas on the menu to start and they were amazing. Lots of flavor and they didn't taste over sweetened or sweetened at all for that matter. Scallion Pancakes: One portion was one pancake that was split into quarters. The pancake was fried which really brought out all the flaky layers. There was an amazing dipping sauce that accompanied the pancake as well as a ton of fresh green onions. 10/10 Tofu Buns: These were AMAZING. The tofu was fried but did not sit heavily in the stomach or in the mouth. There were a ton of fresh flavors with the toppings as well as the tofu. The bun itself was super fluffy and had a good sweetness to it that complemented the spicier filling. Three Ingredient Dumplings: We got these steamed. The filling included egg, shrimp, and mushrooms. There was a lot of flavor considering the steamed filling. Cooked to perfection and came with a yummy sauce. Rice Shu Mai: These were definitely the star of the show. The filling was INCREDIBLE. There were no words to describe the flavor medley of the rice and mushrooms. While the aesthetics might fancy reviewers, I felt like the food hit subpar. Ample street parking even for such a busy area. We made reservations at 630 on a Friday and seated promptly. They do have spacious seating so you're not on top of one another. Good for small groups but also able to accommodate large ones. I think I saw a group of 10-12 people at a table. We ordered the white peach tea, scallion pancake, the pork belly bun, scallop/cuttlefish and traditional three ingredient dumplings all steamed. The scallion pancake was light and crispy although it felt a bit over greasy. I liked the tenderness of the meat from the pork belly buns. However, they needed more flavoring. I found it tacky that they had to brand their bun with the name. Among the dumplings, at first, they all tasted similar. I wouldn't say I had a favorite. I thought the chili oil could have had a stronger kick but I get the appeal of arranging the spice level to mild for all to enjoy. I find this place, based on the current reviews, to be a little overhyped. I'd be open to trying it again, and trying the dumplings pan-fried. read more

It was off to a shaky start with the host not ready to seat us, so we sat at the bar for a bit but no one serviced us, then we had to follow up with the host again 30 minutes later to get an actual table. We got 2 alcoholic drinks, a matcha green milk tea, pork buns, crab Rangoons and 2 orders of dumplings. The whole bill came out to be just under $100 with tip and overall I would say it's worth it! - matcha milk tea: it was good. Not great. You can distinctly taste the matcha which is inherently a little bitter. The milk and ice mixture was a little off. The overall drink was a bit more watery and not as sweet as I would like, but if they're going for simplistic, I can see what they were shooting for and really just letting the matcha shine - Crab Rangoon: really really good. Comes with 4 and are nicely sized. The mixture was perfectly balanced and I think they add a little citrus or ginger to cut all the creaminess of the cheese. Overall, I would say top 3 in Madison - Pork bun: delish! Nice slice of pork, good l sauce, and fresh bun - Pork and shrimp steamed : very good. Like grandmas place good - Beef and cilantro pan fried: I LOVED the way this one was prepared. Beef and cilantro is an interested combo for dumplings but it worked and paired with the preparation and sauce it was pretty incredible.
