My wife, two sons, and I visited here in August 2026 for Sunday dinner based on a recommendation from my son's college roommate. Located a short drive west of Blacksburg (in Prices Fork), this delicious and innovative restaurant is housed in a former school building (Prices Fork elementary school). The dining area occupies a former school cafeteria or assembly hall, but don't let that deter you. The food is delicious! Lots of pluses. First, parking is free and available in the back lot. Second, you place an order up front and then receive a card with a letter from the alphabet. Third, the service was quite good. A server came to refill our water and asked if everything was OK. Fourth, it has a nice family-friendly vibe. For shared appetizers, the Pimento with crackers was very good. But the Bang Bang Brussel Sprouts was outstanding and memorable. We also enjoyed the spicy chicken sandwich. My wife found the endless summer salad to have very generous portions. It looks like an old-school old school! Feather Bone Provisions & Assembly used to be an elementary school, and you can tell: the dining room looks a bit like a school cafeteria. There are lockers in the entryway, and little throwbacks to academic life here and there. I could never get a glass of wine at my elementary school, though. So Feather Bone is way cooler. These guys have an interesting setup. You have to order your alcohol at the bar, separately from your food, and they will bring it to you. I can't tell if it's because the bar and the restaurant are two separate entities, or what. When I visited, it was with a big group, so we got a bunch of things for the table. I think the start of the meal was the pimento cheese board, which came with crackers, pickles and slaw, plus some colorful vegetables. I had never had anything like it! I'm not usually a pickled veg gal, but they went really well with the soft and slightly spicy cheese. Plus, this appetizer is very pretty. Equally impressive were the Bang Bang Brussels -- roasted Brussels sprouts with a chili crisp vinaigrette and sesame shallot crunchies on top. Leaves of Thai basil and cilantro covered the top. This dish went really fast at our table. Another star: the focaccia and miso butter. Sometimes, a simple slice of bread and butter will be just the perfect thing. This one is amazing. I got the fried chicken, because I heard that it is one of Feather Bone's specialties. It was super crunchy and deeply brown, and came with gravy and hot honey to dip it in. Other things that people at my table ordered that they loved: the pork chop (comes with apple sauce gravy and a fennel salad); the World's Best Cookie (not bad); banana pudding (good, but had too much stuff on it, like a caramel drizzle and cookie crumbs). My family has been enjoying this place for a while now while I've been at college in Florida. Finally, after receiving countless pictures of their mouthwatering food and hearing nothing but rave reviews, I got the chance to try it for myself! Located in the old Prices Fork Elementary School, the atmosphere is unique. I appreciate that they incorporate aspects of the school into the experience. For instance, the dining space is in the schools old gym and the table paddle you receive after you order are alphabet cards. The ambiance is super laid back and I love that you order at the front and they'll bring the food out to you. This makes the experience so much more enjoyable as it not a table-service type of place. You can also order drinks at the front and they will bring those out to you as well. Ordering is super straight forward. They offer a great menu with options for all, including gluten sensitive people. I appreciate their eclectic take on standard American/Southern faire. As their food is bursting with unique flavors that are not like ones you'll find elsewhere in the area. All the food is freshly prepared and ours came out within 10-15 minutes of ordering. We ordered a lot, as I wanted to try a little bit of everything! To start, we got the Pimento Cheese Board and the Bang Bang Brussels. Both of which were a large size and perfect for sharing. The Pimento Cheese Board consisted of home-made pimento cheese, crackers, house pickles, and apple slaw. Everything on this plate was extremely fresh and flavorful. The pimento cheese had a great consistency and I appreciated the subtle inclusion of the red peppers. The apple slaw was fresh, and the various pickled vegetables were a nice palette cleanser. My parents have claimed the Brussel sprouts here were some of the best they'd had-- and I can easily confirm these were the best brussel sprouts I've had! The Brussel sprouts are cooked to perfection and topped with Chili crisp vinaigrette, yum-yum sauce, and a sesame shallot crunch. They are truly something else and a trip to Feather Bone wouldn't be complete without ordering these! I also order 2 pieces of their focaccia which came with miso butter. The focaccia was cooked on the griddle and was warm when it was served. The miso butter was a little too salty for my liking, but I enjoyed putting some of the pimento cheese on the focaccia! For my entree I actually ended up ordering a baby smash burger, which is a kids meal (as I couldn't commit to a full size entree). This meal included a smaller, slider version of their smash burger, served with fries, apples slices, and the option of a drink. I was blown away with how good the burger was, seriously one of the best! The burger was seasoned wonderfully, with a nice char on the edges (the way a smash burger should!). The cheese was gooey and the bun was really, really good. Fries were crips and were also seasoned well. I would easily order this again, just maybe the adult portion! I also tried my mom's hanger steak and the mushroom polenta (special of the night) and thoroughly enjoyed that. The steak was tender, with lots of flavor and the mushroom polenta was quite tasty as well! I appreciate that they frequently have food and drink specials too. Overall, I can easily say that this was the best meal I have had in Blacksburg--and I have lived here my entire life. A common thing among all the food we ordered was flavor. Everything had so much flavor, was seasoned so well, and was super unique. They really elevate the standard southern cuisine into something quite spectacular. I have zero complaints about anything we ordered. The bang bang Brussel sprouts were a hit, along with the pimento cheese board. I love the ambiance of this place too. If you are ever in the area, make this place a priority. You will not be left disappointed! This is one of the best places in the Blacksburg/Christiansburg area in my opinion. The concept of it being in an elementary school cafeteria, complete with the stage is very cool. They have embraced that concept, even with the red cups that are reminiscent of cafeteria style. The menu is rather small, but I dont mind that if the food is well done. In this case, the food was amazing. Fresh, tasty, thoughtfully created. Fries were not greasy, burger bun was perfect, cheese was melty, lots of house made pickles....whats not to like? PAY ATTENTION WHEN PAYING!!! I visited Feather Bone while visiting friends in Blacksburg. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich (they call it a 'sando") and the "bang bang" Brussels sprouts. Even though they were busy, the food came out in a timely manner. The spicy sandwich WAS spicy! I like spicy foods and thought it was awesome, but if you aren't a spicy food fan, you should probably order their non-spicy sandwich instead. I also like Brussels Sprouts, and theirs were great! I didn't get a drink because they are right next door to the Moon Hollow Brewery, so I sat outside and had one of their excellent "Lunatic" IPA's with my spicy chicken sandwich. The only complaint I had is with payment. Feather Bone automatically adds a 20% tip on to the bill. They call it a "service charge". This is clearly disclosed on their menu, but NOT clearly disclosed at the point of sale. The "service charge" is listed on the very bottom of the payment screen and is easy to overlook, AND an option to leave an ADDITIONAL tip is clearly presented, so the unwary diner is likely to be charged the mandatory 20% extra "tip" PLUS whatever (10%, 20%, 25% or custom) that they usually leave. "Caveat Emptor" is Latin for "let the buyer beware", and it's certainly good advice! read more

I've been here twice and both times have been great. The local atmosphere (converted old school), the service and the food are just spot on. The spicy chicken sandwich and huge healthy salad are spot on. Prices (which automatically include tip) can get a tad bid on the high side. Went to this place last night and it was delicious. The vibes of the restaurant were really awesome. It is located inside an old school building and they had outside seating (which we decided to do) and it felt like a backyard cookout vibe. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich which comes with fries. The fries were delicious - They were super crispy and fresh. The only complaint I had about the sandwich was when I picked up the burger I think all of the hot sauce was on the bottom bun, which made it super messy to eat, but nonetheless, the sandwich itself was really crispy. The Brussel sprouts were also very good. I'm not too sure what the exact flavor was, but it was really addicting. Did want to note that on all orders they charge an automatic 20% gratuity, but I don't think they had the best service. I saw the waiter come around and fill up waters for some other tables, bring over some condiments, and extra utensils/ silverware, but no one ever came and stopped by. I love this place, they treat vegetables as standalone dishes instead of as boring, flavorless sides. The side bread is superb, it's a must for the table. Service is friendly, outdoor seating is typically quieter than that of neighboring moon hollow. I typically stick to the small plates here. Great place! Loved that it was an old school, stage and all! The staff were super nice and friendly. I ordered the chicken sandwich and it was delicious! Like one of the best I've ever had. I even saved the last bite to let my friend taste it! My kid got the chicken nuggets and it was a huge portion. The "adult sodas" were good and something different, We also had the banana pudding which was almost like a parfait with caramel, it was a great spin on the classic. Can't wait to go back! We stopped next door at Moon Hollow to try their latest beers and noticed the menus for Feather Bone on the tables. We really didn't have any expectations on food, but they blew us away with their quality! We had smash burgers and a spicy chicken sandwich and all were cooked perfectly, very flavorful and delivered to our table promptly. It was one of the top 3 spicy chicken sandwiches I've had! I loved the attention to detail. The fries were seasoned perfectly and the chocolate chip cookies rounded out the meal. Friendly staff and a place I'd come to just for the food. Really had high hopes for this restaurant. We ordered everything on the menu. The smash burgers were dry, heavily salted. The bun was stale. So much sauce, it was overwhelming. But the strangest thing of all about the burgers was the faint taste of fish. There's no fish on the menu, so we were perplexed about that flavor profile.
