The service is clearly explained on the menu, and I totally support compensating employees fairly.

PAY ATTENTION WHEN PAYING!!! I visited Feather Bone while visiting friends in Blacksburg. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich (they call it a 'sando") and the "bang bang" Brussels sprouts. Even though they were busy, the food came out in a timely manner. The spicy sandwich WAS spicy! I like spicy foods and thought it was awesome, but if you aren't a spicy food fan, you should probably order their non-spicy sandwich instead. I also like Brussels Sprouts, and theirs were great! I didn't get a drink because they are right next door to the Moon Hollow Brewery, so I sat outside and had one of their excellent "Lunatic" IPA's with my spicy chicken sandwich. The only complaint I had is with payment. Feather Bone automatically adds a 20% tip on to the bill. They call it a "service charge". This is clearly disclosed on their menu, but NOT clearly disclosed at the point of sale. The "service charge" is listed on the very bottom of the payment screen and is easy to overlook, AND an option to leave an ADDITIONAL tip is clearly presented, so the unwary diner is likely to be charged the mandatory 20% extra "tip" PLUS whatever (10%, 20%, 25% or custom) that they usually leave. "Caveat Emptor" is Latin for "let the buyer beware", and it's certainly good advice!

Spicy chicken sandwich. Excellent.

I've been here twice and both times have been great. The local atmosphere (converted old school), the service and the food are just spot on. The spicy chicken sandwich and huge healthy salad are spot on. Prices (which automatically include tip) can get a tad bid on the high side. Two sandwiches, one salad and three alcoholic drinks (with tip) was 85 dollars. I winch when I say that, but the food is actually really good and I would go back, and just winch again LOL.

Freakin' delicious, fresh food, in a bright, open, clean space. No table service, and totally relaxed. And the value? At $10 to $15 per entree--out of this world! My side salad, which you might expect to be completely humdrum, was incredible. Succulent leaves with no conventional dressing, but tons of delicious seeds and spices. Food 8 + ambiance 8 + value 9 + service 7 = overall 8.1 / 10 (very good)

Stopped there while dropping my daughter off at Virginia Tech. The food and staff were great. We started off with the pimento cheese with pickled vegetables and apple slaw. We then had a salad with a steak on the side. All the food was fresh and delicious. The steak was so tender and tasty. It may have been the best steak I have ever eaten. Can't wait to return. They have many vegetarian options that sound very good.

Went to this place last night and it was delicious. The vibes of the restaurant were really awesome. It is located inside an old school building and they had outside seating (which we decided to do) and it felt like a backyard cookout vibe. I ordered the spicy chicken sandwich which comes with fries. The fries were delicious - They were super crispy and fresh. The only complaint I had about the sandwich was when I picked up the burger I think all of the hot sauce was on the bottom bun, which made it super messy to eat, but nonetheless, the sandwich itself was really crispy. The Brussel sprouts were also very good. I'm not too sure what the exact flavor was, but it was really addicting. Did want to note that on all orders they charge an automatic 20% gratuity, but I don't think they had the best service. I saw the waiter come around and fill up waters for some other tables, bring over some condiments, and extra utensils/ silverware, but no one ever came and stopped by. I would still go back for the food. Excited for the next time, I can make it out there.

Loved lunch with my husband, my son and his beautiful girlfriend celebrating her 21st birthday. Great day out of town.

Great food. Love the atmosphere of the converted school now reinvented space. Very casual, cozy, cafeteria-style space.

Cheesy cauliflower, spiced carrots, Brussels.

I love this place, they treat vegetables as standalone dishes instead of as boring, flavorless sides. The side bread is superb, it's a must for the table. Service is friendly, outdoor seating is typically quieter than that of neighboring moon hollow. I typically stick to the small plates here. Once ordered a spicy chicken sandwich, and though the flavors were there and chicken tasty, it had a bit too much chili crisp oil, resulting in a bit of a mess. Fork and knifed it, but next time will ask for the chili on the side:)

Amazing food! We're glad to see this place have a permanent home! The food is next level. Everything on the menu I have had has been fantastic. The poutine fries are so freaking good. The burger and chicken Sandwich is so juicy and mouth watering. Excellent selection of beers on tap as well!

The Cellar is one of those restaurants where you might wonder, "Do they have ...?" And the answer…read morewill probably be, "Yes, they do have that on the menu." They have gyros, meatball subs, pizza, burgers, crab cakes, kabobs, chicken parmesan and lots more. I get a little squinky when I see a multiple-page menu with lots of random foods on it. But I visited with a group, and so I was locked into this place, whether I liked it or not. A quick internet and Yelp search told me that the things to get at The Cellar are the Greek gyro and the pizzas. I didn't want a whole pie just for myself, so I ordered the gyro. The Greek gyro was really good! It is lamb and beef in a pita, topped with tzatziki, lettuce, onion and tomato. All of the veggies were super fresh, and the pita was warm and pillowy. It's served with chips and a pickle. They actually have quite a few Greek or Mediterranean-adjacent items on the menu. One of the people in my group ordered the Black & Blue Salad, which is basically a salad with steak and bleu cheese on it, plus lots of vegetables. It was huge! She ate a lot of it, and it looked like she barely made a dent. When she put the leftovers in the to-go container, she almost needed two containers! It became a running joke that day and for a couple of days afterward about whether or not she actually finished that salad. This is also the location for the 6Pak Bottle Shop, which is basically a liquor store but intensely curated. They have a nice selection of craft beers and wine. There is also a bar downstairs, which I didn't have the pleasure of visiting. Another great thing about The Cellar is that they are open late! Sometimes until midnight, and sometimes until 2 a.m. I guess that makes sense, as they are located basically right across the street from Virginia Tech.

The Cellar has a basement bar. We snagged a few bar seats. The bar server was great. He provided us waters. He quickly took our cocktail orders and made some very delicious cocktails. My sour apple martini was so good that that a second one was in front of me quickly. One of us ordered a full sandwich meal and that sandwich looked humongous and full of meat. We also ordered sides of curly fries. These were fried fresh. It's somewhat of a dark speakeasy vibe. The crowd was tame compared to some of the other bars down the street. We hope to try the full restaurant in our next visit.

I was caught off guard when my friend walked up the stairs to the house because from initial appearance, I wouldn't have thought this was the restaurant! Upon walking in, the host greeted us and told us his name was Dan and that he was the owner of the restaurant! It was really cool to see that the owner is truly passionate about his restaurant and will show up to put in the work, even during the later hours. In terms of the food, I went with the Hungry Hokie which was a mashed potato bowl with with bits of meatloaf and chicken, green beans, macaroni and cheese. It also came with a biscuit or cornbread, I opted in with the cornbread. The food was absolutely hearty and had pretty good flavor! The one wish that I had was that it came in a bigger portion as it didn't fully fill me up. If I was in town again, I'd definitely consider going back to try the other items on the menu!

Reserve well in advance during football weekends or special events, such as graduation week. We enjoyed the Tuscan Tortellini ($23): shrimp and chicken sautéed in garlic with sun-dried tomatoes and spinach, herb sauce, cheese tortellini with basil and parmesan. Two of us split the tasty three-lamb-chop special for $36. Several nearby booths were enjoying the Southern Ribs ($23 ): seven slow-cooked, then crispy-fried pork ribs in a BBQ sauce, served with pimento mac-n-cheese, cornbread, and vegetable du jour. In addition to the dinner entrées ($20-$32) and specials ($40), Lefty's has dinner sandwiches under $14 and dinner burgers under $15. Plus flatbread pizzas, $14. Wines by the glass from $8 to $10.50. 24 beers on tap. Cocktails are $9 to $11. Service is fast, efficient, and mostly friendly (ours got a little snippy when we asked about a cocktail order that was slow to arrive, but it was a busy graduation night). Dependable on all counts; we'll be back.
