Federal City Bar is the hotel bar in the Hilton Capitol Hill. But you can think of it as an extension of the restaurant within. After a certain time, the restaurant is done for the day and it transitions over to the bar area. Same menu, same prices, same service. The only thing that has been updated is the menu itself. You get to sit in the newly remodeled area that is the bar...now. When they remodeled they shifted the bar out to the open area rather than have it tucked away under an area across from the front desk. During the daylight hours there is plenty of sunlight pouring in from the outside, and at night it feels a bit intimate. Servers are attentive and on top of their game. Restaurant/hotel lobby is currently under partial renovation (March 2023) but food and service are excellent. We dined in two nights and took out desserts to bring up to our room. We sampled Tijuana fries, the burger, pepperoni and sausage flatbread, calamari, and grilled Caesar salad the first night. The second time we had fried chicken adobo sandwich, chicken quesadilla, tomato lager soup, crab and corn chowder, and chopped Cobb salad. Then we had the cheesecake and chocolate pot de crème to go. The items that all of us enjoyed unanimously are the Tijuana fries and the cheesecake. I really liked the Caesar and the calamari but my favorite dish was the chopped Cobb salad! The tomato soup and crab and corn chowder were pretty good too. Tijuana fries - chunky fries in cheese, guac, crema, salsa, and shredded beef. So good! Cobb salad - very refreshing and tasty combo, even without extra protein. Crunchy cucumber, sweet corn, crispy bacon, and tangy buttermilk ranch on crisp lettuce. Yummy!! Cheesecake - served in a lowball glass with lemon Graham crust, white chocolate cheesecake, and berry compote. So good! Not heavy, not too sweet, perfect! The calamari was tender and crispy and seasoned well. The grilled Caesar was interesting but really good. Portion size is generous for everything, perfect for sharing but also good for a big meal or if you're hungry. All staff are super friendly and courteous and prompt. They remembered us and made us feel very welcome. We didn't have any alcohol but the bar always looks busy. I'd say our meals here were the best food we had this trip! A decent restaurant located within the Hilton Washington DC. Do note that there is currently construction going on inside the hotel including the restaurant but nevertheless, it did not interfere with our dining experience. Service was welcoming and attentive. Our beer was refreshing and the caprese flat bread was delicious with fresh baked crust, melted cheese, sweet tomatoes. read more

Hotel restaurants tend to have crappy food and slow service but not this one! This is a really good restaurant and it saved the day. The crab and corn chowder is AMAZING! The cobb salad was really good too and tasted so fresh. The fires were good also. The drinks were expertly crafted. They were probably the best drinks I had my whole weekend in DC. Definitely adding this to my list of DC restaurants. read more

Well, this was a nice surprise! Great service, great food, great drinks...and no challenges with finding a seat! I enjoyed the Tijuana street fries and salad - too much food for one person! But absolutely fresh and delicious. Maybe I didn't have enough room for the food after three lush dirty martinis. They were icy cold - frosting the glass and went down too well. Great mixer behind the bar for sure. I would give consideration to staying in this spot during my next business trip for the easy access to quality food and excellent drinks. read more

Had to write a review because we were so satisfied with the service we got recently at this bar during Labor Day weekend. Crab cakes and fries were good and the drinks were good as well. The white guy with the beard who works at the bar was one of the only good parts about visiting DC. However the food was absolutely terrible, like not edible terrible. Service was quick and the people were great throughout the hotel bar. The price of the food was not worth the terrible food. read more

Perfectly respectable hotel bar with fine local microbrews and notably good food too. Six taps included Flying Dog Hefeweizen, DC Brau pale ale, Atlas District common lager, Heavy Seas gold ale, a thick stout and more, I really respect the emphasis on DC, MD and VA beers. $7.75 for a pint, reasonable by hotel-bar standards. Tony was the bartender when we visited the Federal City Bar on a quiet evening, friendly and extremely quick with a fresh glass, excellent service (thanks). The free, apparently endless bowls of peanuts and sesame crisps went down very well with the beer. Absolutely no happy hour tho. I tried the lamb tacos, a bit expensive at $18 - that's $6 each - but very tasty, the fresh greens were perhaps not an authentic topping, accompanied by french fries heavily seasoned with smoked paprika, great (salty) bar food to be sure. My dining companion tried the burger, topped with bacon and bleu for $16, side of fries sans smoked paprika, and was very happy. The bar is in an *enormous* atrium, very quiet because noise just dissipates upwards. A couple of couches, many small tables, no dark quiet intimate places, it's a well-lighted place here. Oh and a pool table also. Vegetarian rating: 2 stars, obviously there's beer, also a 'shroom flatbread and an "artisan" cheese plate. After an event being held at the Washington Court Hotel we grabbed a table at the Federal City Bar. Located conveniently across from registration at the hotel, we were simply looking for a quick bite after a long day. A waitress ambled over quickly and took our drink orders, drinks for those who had sat down with us earlier in hand. The menu is not very extensive and we all selected straightforward drinks - white wine, beer, coke, and water. We added on a few orders of the mini sliders and a pepperoni pizza for good measure (Perplexingly: "I would advise against getting the cheese pizza," our waitress commented, "but we make a nice pepperoni pizza." ). That's where things started to go wrong. On each successive return to the table not a single thing was delivered to the right person by the waitress. Far from being flustered at trying to hand half the table the wrong drink, our waitress would just hand something to someone and say, "could you pass this down?" Orders came out relatively correctly but would require repeating two or three times ("Can I get a pinot grigio?" "Yes." "Thanks." "You wanted a Stella, right?" "Um, no?"). The sliders appeared but the pepperoni pizza, so recommended, never did make it to the table. Accordingly, the sliders - one each of beef, crab, and pork - were on the bland side, nestled atop dry buns and sans any condiments or sauces. The check could not come fast enough (and it didn't). One shouldn't expect much from a hotel bar and certainly not this one. However, given the abundance of bars within a two-block radius of the Hotel I'd hope that the Federal City Bar might find one way to redeem itself. This is not the case. Save your $6-11 for a drink and the $11+ for an appetizer elsewhere. read more

This is the bar inside of the Washington Court Hotel. Bar staff were nice and quick with service. It was $10 for a rather blah glass of Riesling but the bar snack - a mix of spicy salty crackers and nuts was good. Due to bad weather and tired feet, I decided to order dinner here as well and went for the 525 burger. This burger was better than average and notable for the red onion marmalade, which I loved. But I wasn't really feeling my menu choice that evening, so that overshadowed my overall experience. So when the $30 check came to the table, I left a little miffed. But hey, it was better than ordering a pizza to my hotel room. During my entire stay at the hotel this bar was rather quiet, even when there was more than a few people there. read more

As good as it gets! In DC for business and pleasure I stopped in this fine establishment at The Washington Court Hotel for drinks and good food on a cold, snowy evening.
