We stopped in here our second night while staying at this hotel. The first night they were already closed, even though it was not super late. I think hotel bars should be open until midnight at least. We didn't make any dinner plans so we decided to do dinner and drinks here. Upon entering, we decided to sit at the bar and were greeted with menus. We ordered drinks and browsed the menu. I was craving calamari so I was leaning towards that. Hubs wanted the nachos so he ordered that. Hubs doesn't eat seafood so I was stuck with all the calamari. When we arrived, the bar was pretty quiet and it filled up a lot while were there. It became so busy that we had to wait for the bartender to attend to us. The food was okay but given we have dined at many Hilton restaurants, this was not as good as most places. I stayed at the hotel where this restaurant is located while attending a nearby conference. Unfortunately, the dining experience left much to be desired due to extremely slow service. Upon arrival, we stood at the front for quite some time without being greeted. Eventually, we asked a bartender if we should wait for a hostess and were told to seat ourselves. The table we chose hadn't been cleaned, but a server promptly came over to wipe it down and hand us menus. We noticed only one other waiter actively attending tables, so we immediately expected a long evening. Throughout the dinner, we could hear other guests expressing similar frustrations about long wait times and delays with their checks. Thankfully, we were able to flag our waiter down to place our order and request a cocktail menu, though we didn't have much hope of actually receiving drinks. At least he brought water before disappearing again. It was clear the restaurant was understaffed and unprepared for the conference crowd. I ordered the blackened salmon, which came with chard and potatoes. My mom ordered the Asian BBQ chicken wings and the lobster mac and cheese (which includes sweet peas--I was curious to try it). The wait for food was long, but once it arrived, it was absolutely worth it. The salmon was perfectly blackened and well-seasoned, and the chard was surprisingly flavorful. However, the potatoes were bland, and with no salt or pepper on the table, I ended up skipping them altogether. The lobster Mac was pretty tasty but I definitely picked around the peas. Towards the end of my meal, I was finally able to order a cocktail. I tried the Peachy Paper Plane, intrigued by its description, but unfortunately, it didn't live up to the name. I enjoy an Aperol spritz, but the Aperol overwhelmed the drink's flavor profile, making it too bitter to finish. Was staying at the hotel for work so stopped in here after conference meetings. Understanding that it is a hotel bar so expectations were low, however, it was worse than you'd imagine. The vodka fizz was the #1 worst drink I've ever had it my life. It was almost as if you were pouring oil and water into a jar - the syrup was so thick and didn't mix with the alcohol so you either just got a sip full of syrup or straight vodka through a straw. We also got nachos and they were a 2/5. I prefer real cheese over queso so that might be a me thing but the chicken was also weird. Side of fries were good though, nice thick cut and seasoned. The service was wildly slow. We were there around 4:30pm shortly after they open (at 4pm) so among some of the only people there and it was like pulling teeth to get our orders in/close out. Despite all that, 2 stars over 1 because I would recommend this place for a nightcap. They have a heavy hand on the pours and the ambiance is great after 11pm. read more

We came here a few times while staying at the Washington Hilton and it was a pretty good bar overall. We had drinks twice and their pours were very generous. We had an amazing bartender as well and Darrin was super fun and it was great chatting with him. We had dinner once here and the food was decent; my wife had a Caesar salad that was okay overall and my turkey club was good, not great. When the harried waiter finally appeared, he told us he had to RUN to the kitchen with our order b/c the kitchen was closing. Then we waited. The bar has a nice vibe, it was mostly empty in the afternoon. Actually, the restaurant (Four Oaks) in the same hotel was not serving at that time, hence they suggested me to try here instead. I had seared salmon, it wasn't spectacular, but it was above mediocre. Looks like a decent place if you're already there, perhaps more preferable for drinks. On both occasions at McClellan's, I sat at the bar and was checked in with regularly by the staff. Both times I got the cheeseburger cooked perfectly to medium with cheddar and no bacon. I don't eat pork. The food came up quickly. I was impressed with the fries as they were more like my beloved pommes frites than expected. You also get a trio of sauces, mayo, ketchup and mustard. First time had the fish and chips - portion size was good, overall quality was worth the price - I would recommend if you are in the mood. Second time I had the angus burger - burger was exactly what I was looking for! Cooked as requested, toppings we plenty, fries were decent portion and overall I would recommend. (Read: Not your standard hotel fare) I was at the Hilton for a conference and did not want to walk too far, as my lunch break was very limited. I bellied up at the bar and was greeted with a smiling face and prompt service. For lunch I dined on the Fried Oyster Po' Poy w/ fries. The oysters were fresh, savory and battered perfectly. All too often when you have fried anything the batter overpowers your meat, not here. The Po'Boy was served on a crusty roll and was garnished with Chipotle Mayo, chunks of avocado, lettuce and tomato. The sando(sandwich) also came with a cute order of delicious, hot fries. I say cute because it was served in a mini deep fryer fry basket. The plate was also garnished with a few chips of kosher pickle. So good I wanted a few more to accompany my sando. I also partook in the beer flight. With this flight you get your choice of 4 beers to sample. With most of the draft selections being IPA's, you'll definitely get an adequate buzz. read more

Servers Jose and Francis were all-star servers -- great personalities, very attentive and patient, friendly, etc. The food was a step up from typical bar food. I loved my roasted chicken salad. While enjoying a cocktail, another restaurant guest told us that he had once worked at the McClellan's restaurant while he was brand new in the United States, and the server Jose (one of the great employees I mentioned, above) was always kind and encouraging to him. That guest now works with the US Congress and insisted on buying us a drink after speaking to us, which was very sweet. We heard a few of these stories while visiting -- inspiring first-hand stories from people who had come to the United States in search of something better and found it. McClellan's is the kind of place that gets traffic regardless of how bad or good it is because it's in the lobby of the Washington Hilton, and it is BAD. It starts with the staff, the rude and unfriendly bartender/host and servers who told us to go find our own table, wouldn't let us sit at empty tables because they were very very busy, and why didn't we just go to the other restaurant if we didn't like it. They finally found a little table tucked into a corner and seated us. At the 10 minute mark. The server took our order. An appetizer and two entrees At the 15 minute mark. The server brought me my wine, which I wanted to drink with my dinner. At the 30 minute mark. The server came over with a bright smile and said, we're really busy so it's gonna be a little while, ok? Then sauntered off. At the 45 minute mark. The two tables next to us, who had arrived before us and had only been drinking, got up and left after deciding they no longer wanted to wait for their food. At the 60 minute mark. The table behind us, who had arrived before us, got their food, and asked for takeout containers. I struck up a conversation with them, and they told me they had waited 2 hours for it and were going back up to their room. At the 90 minute mark. We told them, please check, and if not's ready, cancel and we're leaving. Our food came out moments later. I told them to take the appetizer back because if they thought we were going to eat our appetizer after 90 minutes at the same time we were eating our entrees, they were nuts. The food was only so-so. A table that arrived 15 minutes before we were served but overlapped with the other table had a conversation with all of us, and the staff was aware that the people at that table heard all of us complaining about them, and miraculously, that table was served very quickly. After we left, friends of ours went down and were seated. They told us they also waited over 90 minutes for their dinner. Bottom line. McClellan's just doesn't care. They know they're going to get business because of where they are. They don't care about being rude, or being good, or their service, or alienating customers, because their customer base is pretty much hostage to them. If you have other options, go somewhere else. We really didn't, at least not that night. read more

McLellan's is the main bar and restaurant at the hotel and by first look it seems to be an old-school steak joint...but it's not really. We were seated quickly and ordered drinks-Wifey had a Gimlet (and ordered a second one...woo hoo!), my son had a sweet non-alcoholic,and I had a double Knob's Creek. For our appetizer we ordered the homemade hummus and pita and it was delicious. Nicely seasoned and very tasty...we hammered it! For our entrees my son ordered the Ny strip which came with mashed potatoes and veggies; Wifey ordered the Salmon with polenta that had goat cheese in it; and I ordered the Tomahawk chop-Braised beef rib with sweet potato and summer veggies. The food was delicious...I mean really good. Wifey was ready to lick her plate...we did some damage! For dessert we had a couple coffees and ordered the Ben and Jerry's trio. So why only four stars? They had only one waiter in for the whole place and he was swamped. Also, the drink prices were over the top. My drink cost more than my entree...sorry, that's ridiculous. This bar inside the Hilton is just amazing! My husband and I came here for some drinks and some food while he had a break during his conference and we loved it! The bartenders were so polite to us and very helpful with our questions about the menu. We started off with some drinks, I had a Midori Sour and my husband an Old Fashion. Both drinks were made exactly the way we like them and they were delicious. I ordered their crap seafood chowder they have and OMG it was amazing! The portion was huge and the soup itself was just omg - had all the right flavors. I would have liked to get more just to take home! I also ordered a side of the mac and cheese and that was amazing as well. My husband ordered a bacon burger and he was very pleased. The fries that come with it, were seasoned just right. After that she checked on us regularly and was friendly. I had the fish tacos which were good (you get 3 huge tacos). I also had the sticky warm toffe things for dessert. I was really good!
