I don't normally leave Yelp reviews, but in this case, the employees didn't leave me with much choice. On a Wednesday just before 10 a.m., I was shipping a box I brought from home. The cashier, who had light hair (perhaps blonde) and glasses, assisted me with finding the right box (he told me I needed a FedEx Small White Box instead). I shipped it using US Ground. He was the only employee in the store (another employee came in during the transaction, an older woman with short graying hair), but I had no issues and his customer service was great. The next day, around 9:15 a.m., I had another item to ship and I thought I knew exactly what I needed to do since I was there the day before. I grabbed a Small White FedEx Box and filled out my US Ground slip, and headed to the counter. There were two employees working, including Jeannie, the older woman who was there yesterday, and a dark-haired guy named John. Jeannie asked me if I was shipping via US Ground, and when I told her I was, she said I could not use the Small White Box to do so. "OK, that's fine. But just so you know I was here yesterday morning and some guy told me to use the Small..." "Well you can't." John said, while running over my words from behind another counter. "Yeah he was wrong," Jeannie said. "What did this guy look like?" A little thrown off, but willing to figure out who their mysterious coworker was, I described him as I remembered him: light, maybe blonde hair, with glasses. "We don't have anyone here that works here like that." John said again, before I even finished describing the mystery man, and he walked over to the data center to help another customer. "Yeah, everyone who works here has dark hair," Jeannie said. "Was he tall? Short?" Exasperated, I told Jeannie I didn't remember, and asked her if I couldn't use the Small White Box, what should I use instead. She pointed to the rack with large envelopes and I found one that worked fine. I unpacked my previous box and put my item in the envelope. As Jeannie is ringing me up, she asks again, "Are you sure that's what he looked like?" I replied yes, and even told her that I had seen her come in and speak to him WHILE he was doing my transaction. She just shook her head and said, "No. No. He doesn't work here." WHAT?? Do you even know who you work with?? Then John, back in the data center, calls all the way across the store and says in very sassy tone, "We do not have an employee that looks like that." I was so angry at this point, I looked over at him and said, "Excuse me?" He very kindly repeated himself a bit louder across the store. When I get angry, I shut down, so that's the end of the situation, but I swear I am not making this mystery employee up. The fact they were immediately defensive, negative, and extremely rude was so deflating and demeaning. I will not be continuing any services with FedEx. read more

Working at a copy center is a pretty thankless job, every customer is always pissed because they believe that what they imagine in their head should be easily, quickly, and without mechanical hiccups reproduced beautifully on paper, even if they have the wrong file format, wrong size, wrong color mode, and are working with complex technologies they don't understand. There is one employee, Elon (I think is his name) who works here and needs some special props. I went in there grumpy and in a rush to print a few items, and of course there were like five technological issues I couldn't figure out. Elon was nice and thorough and awesome and got me out of my funk. So thanks Elon!! And, here's to all the people in the world who perform daily, thankless tasks and do so without going ape$#!t on the kinds of customers who write on Yelp as though not getting a copy job done in 30 minutes is like to being thrown in federal prison. read more

I went to this location to return a package to a clothing manufacturer. I'll preface that the month before I had done so without issue. For whatever reason, this time the manager concluded I did not have a proper return label despite me making clear that it's the same type of return label I had used previously. I suggested she look up the manufacturer as it would likely have a business account with FedEx to cover return shipments; however, she did not feel the need to nor did she suggest any alternatives. She was rude and unhelpful and, to be honest, it has become par for the course at these FedEx print and ship centers. read more

I had a very disappointing experience here. I had a simple task: print a six page document. I brought a PDF of the document to FedEx on a thumb drive, and I also had the computer on which I'd created the document. Sadly, the computers at FedEx couldn't read my thumb drive and there was no way to connect to the network to transfer the document or print it. FedEx / Kinkos used to have much better hardware - they've gotten rid of all of their Macs, and now just have a bunch of crippled PCs that cannot do a simple task like read a PDF off of a thumb drive and print it. To add insult to injury, they charged me for the time I spent trying to get their machines to work. Having used FedEx / Kinkos for other print tasks in the past, I was very disappointed by these changes. read more

I agree with some other reviewers. FedEx is a good shipping company (I prefer them over UPS), but this particular FedEx Office location is just plain awful. I was returning an item to Dell. They provided the shipping material and return label. So basically I was just dropping it off. I repackaged the item exactly how Dell had sent me the package through FedEx (it was a replacement item). First of all when I'm standing in line, this one employee is talking with a customer who is clearly not pleased. I believe this may have been the manager since he was wearing a shirt and tie as opposed to the FedEx logo-shirt as the other worker monkeys in this store were wearing. The way this guy talked to the customer was not very friendly and in a way where he was talking down and being condescending towards the customer. After all that was "taken care of" (they asked the customer to stand off to the side), I was so "fortunate" to get the same guy "helping me"... Anyway, I told him I just want to have this package shipped and it's packed and labeled and ready to go. He asked me what is inside. I responded that a video card was in there. He was like video card? I reply a computer component. He then said he would have to inspect the package to make sure it is packaged properly. I assumed it should be fine since I used the exact same packaging that Dell provided and it arrived in one piece on my door step. He opened my package, wasting the tape I had used to already seal the box. He said my package was packed improperly and he would properly pack it for me for $2.99. Immediately a red flag went off. This guy already had a douchy attitude so I figured he was trying to rip me off. I asked him how it was shipped to me by FedEx if it wasn't properly packaged. His response was to say that Dell schedules a pick up at their warehouse and the FedEx driver who picks it up didn't care if it's wrapper properly since he makes money off the pickup. So his response was basically "I care so much about your package unlike the guy who picked up the package originally." He also gave some spiel about liability. Blah blah blah. In addition to all of this I received the same talking down to as the guy before me. But anyway, in the end I said no thank you, took my package, and left. I should have said, you owe me 10 cents for tape that you made me waste. Anyway, I went to the FedEx center in Emeryville on 63rd street. These workers were so much better. The lady there was friendly and took my package no questions asked. I decided to ask her about their policies since that other guy in the Berkeley Shattuck store gave me such a hassle. She said it was the original box and packaging from Dell so it was fine. She seemed a little surprised when I told her that this guy had tried to charge me $2.99 just to ship a package with a prepaid shipping label too. I know this is long, but I was really displeased by my experience at this FedEx Office store on Shattuck. I know perhaps it might be just that one employee that ruined my experience. But as far as I'm concerned he is the rotten apple that spoiled the bunch for me. He really needs to learn to interact with customers better. I will not return here again unless they are going out of business and maybe I'll look at what is on clearance. read more

I placed an online order for wedding invitations and went to pick them up from the store, where an employee named Juan asked me to review them before taking home. Long story short, there were some issues with the dimensions of the invitation as well as the border showing up correctly. Juan worked with me all day to get them just perfect, calling me several times with specific questions and keeping me updated on when they'd be finished. He even had to hand crop several drafts of the invitations because their paper cutter wasn't working properly. He was professional and kind throughout our entire encounter. INCREDIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE. Will be coming back! read more

This, for the second time, has been one of the worst business experiences I've ever had. Apparently, not one do they over-charge (I could have gotten the same thing printed fro $35, versus the $70 that they charged me), but both times I've been in, they only have one miserable looking employee. Also, I had very simple needs - wanting to get a large document printed, and hole punched. Apparently, this place - a COPY AND PRINTING CENTER doesn't have the ability to hole punch. I had 600+ pages and the guy hands me a tiny manual hole punch. Are you kidding me?? This place is a joke. The first time, there were 3 people in line to get things done and I was waiting for an hour and a half before I left without being able to simply buy the 5 things I was waiting to purchase after having printed my document. It was insane. I would like the manager there to offer a refund for the truly terrible service and work product that resulted from my use of this place and until they get their act together, I highly recommend not visiting this place. Go to Copy Central or any other copy place in the area. There are plenty. read more

Service representatives are impatient and highly unprofessional. Also, they take forever to do anything. My requests were very simple, and the man behind the counter looked at me like I had asked him to do my taxes while he was at it. I brought in a stack of paper, and a finished example of what the final product should look like. Told him my boss emailed the documents earlier that day. "Well" he said " our email isn't working very well today, so we'll see" Okay, whatever dude. Totally annoyed at this point. For the next 10 minutes, he hobbles around doing whatever it is, and I wait patiently. "So, this is card stock..." Yes honey, good job. And then after waiting long enough I was like, "Listen, I really just need to drop off this order, so I can pick it up later." He said "Well it'll only take a couple minutes" ...obviously not true. Also, don't argue with the customer, dude. I said '' My manager didn't send me with money or anything, and I'm in the middle of a very busy shift at work, and need to get back right now, that's why I need to pick this order up later." ...i should not have to explain myself! He said "OH... okay well hold on just a minute while I print a copy to make sure it looks ok." He did, I said it was fine. And then he asked for my name and the phone number to my work, and printed out a temporary receipt ETC. As I left he told me to have a nice day, which was nice. But when I returned, an hour and a half later, he said "Hello, what can I do for you?" So... I guess he didn't recognize me. read more

I would give 0 stars if Yelp allowed me to. Had TERRIBLE customer service at the Shattuck location in Berkeley, from 5-6pm on a Tuesday. I was shipping 4 packages (1 large suitcase, 2 large boxes, 1 small box) from California to Canada, and my friend was shipping 1 large box to Canada. The employee had a less than pleasant attitude the entire time. We had questions when filling out the documentation, since all 4 of my packages had similar items in it, and I was told to total all my items and put them in one shipping document. The employee was also confused as to the difference between a "package" and a "unit", and just gave me vague explanations as to how to fill out the form, leading me to fill the form in incorrectly. He also couldn't tell me the cost of each of my 4 packages separately, only as a total (wtf?). When printing out the labels, the employee was talking to one of the delivery guys, and being distracted, he stuck one of my labels on my friend's package instead of mine. I had to correct him and he was unapologetic. When I arrived in Canada, I checked on the tracking of my 4 packages. Lo and behold they were stuck in Ohio, due to "improper or missing paperwork". After talking to a FedEx rep over the phone, I had to re-fill out documentation, print it, and fax it to the Ohio office. A big hassle and delay that could have been easily avoided if the original employee had done his due diligence in performing his job. Furthermore, my friend wrote down a PO box as his package delivery address in Canada; the employee failed to notice this as he read the address BACK to my friend. You CANNOT ship to PO boxes. So my friend's shipment ended up being stuck in San Leandro, and could not be returned to Berkeley without incurring more charges. Sure, my friend should have checked if PO boxes are valid delivery addresses, but the FedEx employee typed the address into his computer when printing the label, and should have noticed immediately. read more

I had to rush delivery on a passport visa from LA and asked for the fastest shipping they had. It was 80$ for a few pieces of paper and a passport with first overnight. It got to emeryville by Friday morning but sat in the warehouse marked as "not out for delivery" the entire weekend. So I looked online to see if they deliver on sat and they absolutely do, you just have to click that option which the employees at this store said nothing about. Basically 5 min of research will tell you more than the employees can. read more

I was in a rush, completely frustrated with the FedEx El Cerrito location (after waiting in line for ten minutes, I was told I would have to place an order and come back the next day), I drove over to FedEx Kinko's in Berkeley. I could not have been happier with the service. I had to print out fifty pamphlets for a memorial the next day. The woman behind the counter saw my urgency and was able to accommodate my request. She even suggested paper that I didn't notice in the sample book, which made the pamphlets stand out and feel a little more special. I was so pleased with the service, that I couldn't stop thanking her. I was in and out of FedEx within an hour, compared to waiting a whole day if I went with FedEx in El Cerrito. They were able to turn my frustrated, stressed out frown, into a satisfied smile. :) read more

I don't usually write one star reviews but this place repeatedly has incredibly poor customer service. There are not enough employees, so if something goes wrong with a copier, you have to leave your items at the copier and wait in line for help. This can take forever! Friday night. I was scared coming in because of all the customer service complaints here, but that was not the case! One of the workers, Jesse, was very prompt, attentive, and helpful, suggesting a cheaper shipping option. He was also very patient when I wrote address in the wrong line and when I later came in to add another thing to an already packed box. The hours of this store is also great! Awful! I mailed a package here because a client insisted on FedEx. It took me three separate trips to complete the mailing. The clerks kept giving me different stories about shipping requirements, the type of packaging to use, and prices. Customer service was slow, half-assed, and lacking in enthusiasm and courtesy. Only the manager seemed sort of competent, but he was constantly interrupted by his know-nothing staff. Don't be fooled by FedEx's national reputation or by the sparkling-new storefront: this place is a disaster that will waste hours of your time. My colleague and I visited this FedEx recently to get a large photo image digitally scanned. The service was fast enough, and the prices were fine. But when we got back to the office and viewed the image on our flash drive, the colors of the photo were way over contrasted. We ended up finding out that the employee who scanned the photo for us put on the wrong settings on the scanner and that's why the colors were so bad. Sure, it's a simple mistake, but this caused us to waste money and time, since we ended up having to go to Copy Central down the street to get the image scanned again (whom, by the way, did a perfect job the first try and even let us view the scanned image before purchasing). If you plan on going to this FedEx to get something scanned, just make sure you see what you're getting before you actually purchase it. It'll save you time and money. read more

Had a horrible experience with this FedEx. FedEx shipped my package to the wrong address and then rerouted it to this office. I explained to the lady on the phone that I don't have my driver's license from the DMV yet, so I don't have a government issued ID to pick up the package with. She said that's fine, just have the tracking number ready. I went into this FedEx to be greeted by the most lethargic assistant manager, Zach. I told him about my situation and he still refused to give me my package, even when I showed him the phone messages, the Amazon order, and the tracking number. They also told me they can't hold it for me for more than 5 days. So now, I am never going to get my package. If you have also had a problem with FedEx in your Amazon orders, please please PLEASE make a complaint to Amazon about this. I spoke to a customer service agent at Amazon who told me that if there are enough complaints, they will stop using FedEx as a carrier for our area. read more

There is absolutely no reason ever to set foot in this place. I believe their customer service philosophy is "Abandon all hope, ye who enter." The place has the emotional vibe of colon cancer. If you come here, you will wait, wait, wait. They hire the slowest people on earth --- and not enough of them --- to do things in the slowest possible way --- at inflated prices! You can ship for far less at USPS, and be handled much more efficiently ---- you know it's bad if you make USPS look like an exemplar of customer service! Do not patronize this place. With any luck, it will shut and something else will move in --- a dentist, a center for infectious diseases, a funeral home --- *anything* would be better! read more

The music playing had curse words and the employees gave off the attitude that if you needed help you were inconveniencing them. If you don't need any human interaction, yes, it is a clean store and you can keep to yourself because there certainly will not be anyone that is going to come up to you an offer assistance. The customer service was awful, it was a terrible experience. I left feeling like if this world is going to hell. I just moved to this area and wow , makes me want to stay at home. I am a local business user and was appalled by the MANAGER'S response to requesting a receipt after dropping off my overnight package for late pick-up this past Monday evening around 5pm He was training someone and obviously in a rush but even right there in front of his trainee said "You guys know this makes no difference right?" to me and another customer. I stopped him right there and said "It proves to my employer it was dropped off on time". Who says that to a customer?? It's good to know you're offering a service (of printing out confirmation of a drop off) that in the long run doesn't mean diddly squat. UPS Store was my place of employment all through high school and still a place I go to drop off packages. You will find much better managers there who would not dare say something like that to a customer. My company will be utilizing our UPS account much more now. So you know the drop off receipts THEY give you at UPS can be used later if your package mysteriously ends up "missing". At least we'll be treated with a bit of professionalism there. Within the range of what you can expect to get at a Kinko's, this place is not too good. When I brought in my resume to be copied and printed, I had to wait five minutes for help, and to finally get some service, I had to flag someone down. I was standing conspicuously at the counter, was the only customer waiting for help, and there were three employees clearly in view doing nothing! The staff have an indifferent attitude and move like they are under water. Since they work at Kinko's, that's understandable. However, printing from a computer station is really expensive, and the paper in the printer is ridiculously nice. I could almost feel okay printing my resume on paper of that quality. If I'm ever not in a rush when searching for a copy place, I will definitely look elsewhere. read more
