We got there, and waited and waited for a hostess. Went to the bar to get help, and he said "there isn't a hostess?". After a few minutes, one arrived, seated us, didn't ask if the seating was alright, give us a menu, just dropped us off. Waited forever for a server, I was really thirsty after shopping at Jungs. Server came, said "you don't have menus?". Is anyone running this joint? Finally got menus, waited for water. Ordered, we generally know what we want right away. Cocktail for me, coffee for my man. STILL no water. Asked another server, it was taken care of. Waited and waited for our food, asked another server if we could use salad bar, she told us it came with meals. Disappointing, everything was soaked in same sweet, sticky mayonnaise- I like my cole slaw like that, though some variety would be nice. Other supper clubs offer herring, cheese spread, german type options. It was awful, actually. Soup, was not to temp- perhaps I should have pulled out a thermometer and called the sanitarian. Finished salad, we were really hungry. Got bread, tasted like heat and eat. NO bread plates, apparently customers are expected to pull a piece off and stuff it in their mouth like barbarians. Flagged server down, who was chatting with large 8 top of customers she appeared to know, were perhaps regulars, seemed local, in late 60's, well heeled. $2. drink special, it was teeny tiny- no deal for a grasshopper, doubt it had any crème de cocoa in it. Bleck. The food finally came, my meat was cooked to shoe leather and not medium rare, I gobbled it up, fatigued, just wanted to go home. Server never came back to check on food which at this point I expected. Watched the hostess seat a family, two adults, three children, stuffed them around the corner, made a big deal and a problem about it, getting high chair seat. Took forever about it, was very rude to the family and made it very clear she didn't approve of families or any other people coming to the restaurant to eat there- she was rude to us, also. Tried to track down server to pay bill, my dining companion finally went to bar and asked to pay bill, we got it shortly after. This place is horrible, the worst supper club I have been to. Is there even a manager of this place? Pay for a consultant, pay them what they are worth, and listen to what they say, or you will lose this place, and not be able to sell it when the time comes to retire. Get a front of house and a kitchen manager, and pay them what they are worth. The food is sub par, the meat isn't being cooked right. There is a place near Watertown that is doing it right- go pay them a visit, see what they are doing. read more

There was a problem at the salad bar and that is that the lettuce in the big bowl looked old and very bad others standing there said the same I bought it to attention and it was replaced the next bowl was better but still not like ti should be. We lived not far from this place. Whenever we went there for dinner they acted very unfriendly. We would compliment them on their food and all we got was a hard stare. We made dinner reservations for Thanksgiving at 5 p.m. When we arrived they said we closed at 3. It would have been nice to call and tell us. We never went back there after that and we do not live in Wisconsin anymore thanks for the memories! read more

Went here for Mother's day buffet. First, of all, people in our area were packed in so close we could hardly get out for the buffet. The food itself was bland and way overcooked. My husband had to cut his beef tips with a knife they were so tough. I had their sage dressing and it was so overcooked I had to cut that with a knife and finally gave up. When we complained about the seating they, including the manager, just shrugged their shoulders. No apologies or even a thank you when we paid our bill. Was not worth the money. The food was delicious and very plentiful. There were four in our party, three had steak and one had salmon. We all left very satisfied, too full to try an ice cream drink. The salad bar was great, the other couple commented on how good the hot bacon dressing was. Our waitress was very attentive. There were a couple of larger groups and our food still came out in a timely manner. The onion haystacks are over the top. The portions that came with the steaks were huge. 3 years ago we stumbled upon this supper club and had the most amazing German dinner! It was so good. This week, on a lark, we drove 4 hours to do it again. What a disappointment! Some things are better left in the past. While the restaurant - 3 years ago - was extremely dated, to say the least, the food was fantastic. 3 years later, not one thing had changed except it is older, the food and service not worth the $100 bill. Our wait person sniffed through taking our order - so unappetizing. My husband ordered a dark beer on draft and was delivered a bottled beer. While that didn't bother him initially, he realized after receiving the second that they were both non-alcoholic, unlike the draft he ordered. The spaetzle was inedible. The kitchen door is right by the start of the salad bar and, loud enough to hear in the dining room, was the comment from within from one staff member to the other " are you here tonight as dishwasher or the cook?" My wife & I have enjoyed Feil's for many years so we recommended it to our card group as we always go out for dinner prior to our get togethers. Unfortunately, the night we chose was a night Feil's was featuring a German food buffet. Six of us ordered the buffet while two of us, not interested in the buffet, opted to order off the menu - BIG MISTAKE!! (We all ordered drinks.) The buffet people went & got their food immediately while the 2 menu people sat, & sat, & sat, waiting. Eventually the server came by 20 minutes later, & we asked her about our drinks, 20 minutes after the order was placed, & asked where were the menu items which had not been delivered even after all the buffet people had totally finished their meal, without drinks. Her response? "Well, we're pretty busy." Well, duh, we could see that but, following the age old dictum of the squeaky wheel gets the grease, we pressed on in our quest & received our meals, mostly cold & overcooked. Note - Do not plan to dine there off the menu on a night when they have a buffet special. However, to express our displeasure with our experience at Feil's & to give us a reason to return & encourage our attendance, I sent an email to young Mr.Feil detailing our awful experience at the restaurant. He sent a very generous gift card with a heartfelt apology for what happened which we totally appreciated. We since have used the gift card & had a very enjoyable meal - thank you Mr. Feil for your mea culpa & we will see you soon at one of our favorite restaurants. read more

First time there, will not go back. Only 3 or 4 other tables occupied. Got there at 5 pm. German buffet set up. We chose to order off the menu. I believe everyone else had buffet. I ordered a diet Sierra mist that tasted like shelter. Sent it back, was given a replacement. Told our server it was not good and see t it back. Drank water instead. However I was still charged for it. We ordered the pork chop dinner with cranberries and a baked potato. My husband ordered the walleye with fries. We waited a good 30 minutes for our food. Mind you, we were the only people ordering off the menu. When we finally got our food my so called grilled chops looked like they were thrown on top of half a can of canned cranberries. The chops had no flavor. My husband's fish was not hot, and his fries literally looked like they were burnt. And not crispy. When asked if he would like a different potato, he asked how long would it take, all she did was stare at him. I guess if you don't eat the buffet, you get crappy food. 50 dollars later, we will never return. read more

Went to what used to be my favorite restaurant for the last 25 years, Feil's. My husband ordered the Weiner Schnitzel, which he said "tasted funny" and could only eat a quarter of it. At about 2:30am food poisioning set in and he was throwing up until about 5:30, when it was finally safe to go to bed. (Yes, we ate all the same foods except for at Herbs that day, I didn't get sick at all) Called and spoke to Herb (the owner) just so he would know that he should throw it out, it was bad. He told me "that was impossible", and "did he go to the doctors?". No, but I'm a nurse and have seen food poisoning enough to know what it it. He dismissed my call, and didn't even thank me. The sad part to this story is he's probably serving it up to the next unknowing victim.....Will never go there again. read more

While we have been visiting the Randolph area for years we had never tried this place until last Friday night. My husband ordered the Fish Fry and was really impressed - the fish was fried perfectly and the breading also perfect. Three large pieces of fish. The cole slaw was also very good. There was a generous portion of German Potato Pancakes but they needed more seasoning and it would have been great to get sour cream with them. I ordered one of the German specialties (Jaeger Schnitzel) and it was also cooked perfectly. The gravy was good but needed more seasoning. I was disappointed in the spaetzle. The salad bar was good and the fresh bread was delicious!! Service was good and very friendly and accommodating. We loved the atmosphere. I have heard that this place used to be even better, but we still thought it was very good and plan to return. read more

I can see by other reviews that mine likely won't be popular, but it doesn't make it any less valid... Tonight's visit was not out first, but definitely our last. We had company in town and a Groupon to gas, so off to Feil's we went, a half-hour drive away. Things started to fall apart from the moment we arrived: we stood at the hostess station for two minutes, completely ignored by the employee standing there (I'll protect the name of the guilty), but hey, perhaps she was unaware that hostesses are supposed to host; to our great fortune, said hostess turned out to be our server; when asked what kind of bottled beer they carried, she responded in an awkward body-language-voice combination worthy of a reoccurring SNL character, "I don't know, Miller Lite?;" upon which I hoofed it over to the bar and performed my own due diligence, whereat I was presented with a beer list...what a novel idea!; this was followed by delicious homemade bread served without plates, a reuben sandwich served refrigerator cold and a five-year old being charged for an 'adult soup and salad bar.' Oh, I failed to mention that after said 'Miller Lite?' response that I had politely mentioned to another server that we were getting off to a rough start and that our server seemed like she could use some assistance. That certainly proved to be a worthwhile interaction, but I digress... On the way out, I asked the bartender if he would let the manager know that I would like to speak with him. Again, to our great fortune, the manager on duty turned out to be the owner himself...the same gentleman professing his love for foodservice right here on Yelp. But this gentleman didn't come over to talk to me, no, he disappeared into the kitchen for three minutes, emerged for a brief time -- hands on hip as if he were Clark Griswold admiring his 50-yard wagon jump into the desert -- then disappeared back into the kitchen. Having determined that I was ready to exit this episode of the Twilight Zone, I walked out, head shaking and uttering the word, 'unfathomable.' All in, this excursion cost $75 and I've promised myself that should I ever find myself tempted to return to Feil's, I'll stash $75 in my bathroom and put it to much more satisfactory and productive use. #avisitfortheages read more

Have to say, I was very dissapointed today. Have always enjoyed the prime rib at feils on a sautrday night, even though I always felt that while waiting to be seated from the bar, we felt unwelcomed as we werent considered regulars. I guess some of us like to try all the restaurants and frequent the ones we like more often. Bartenders dont seem to pay attention to you if they dont know you, then chage alot for the very weak drink. Back to the food though. My daughters took me to Feils for Fathers day brunch. Not impressed with the food at all. Was excited for some breakfast that wasnt even on the buffet, maybe it should just be called Sunday Lunch. I had better chicken at KFC, swedish meatballs were barely edible, BBQ pork was like chewing on a leather shoe, corn was dry, and the ham was cold and dry. Salad bar was your typiv]cal salad bar, But the mashed potatos were good. Ordered 3 chocolate milks, which came in cups about the size of the milk cartons from school that we paid a dime for. They were $2.50 here. Should have stuck with water and bought 2 gallons on the way home. Dont mind paying for food or drink but I would have been much more satisfied with the quality if I paid that much for the meals and ate at Ponderosa. Much better selection, and food tastes better. Even the tortes they had for desert, you couldnt even break through the crust, we could only scrape the tops off. I probably will not be returning to Feils, too many times I've been dissapointed and too many better restaurants out there, at much better prices. read more
