After posting this review, I spoke with my boyfriend, who contacted management at Feldkamps Towing. He reported that the manager was understanding and acknowledged that this situation resulted from a miscommunication on the driver's part. I appreciate management taking the time to address the issue and clarify what happened. I had a very poor experience with Feldkamps Towing today. I called for a tow after a front ball joint failure and made it clear I would be present with the vehicle. When the driver arrived, he did not acknowledge me at all. I attempted to ask a few basic questions about how the car would be towed, since this same issue had happened recently and I had previously been advised that improper towing could cause additional damage. The driver would not respond or even make eye contact while I was speaking (it's important to note that I'm a woman). He kept trying to hitch the tow and ignore me. When he finally did answer, it was in a condescending tone, simply stating he was using a dolly. At that point, I agreed and began to step away so he could work. However, the situation escalated unnecessarily. The driver received a call from his supervisor, Alex, and held up the phone while Alex spoke to me in an aggressive and unprofessional manner. I was told I would be charged regardless and was ordered to get out of the way, even though I had already agreed to do so and was not interfering. When I tried to explain, I was cut off, and the driver was instructed to leave without completing the tow--while still charging me. My boyfriend had to call to get the company to agree to cancel the service and not charge me. I have experience working in repair shops and understand the importance of proper towing procedures, which is why I asked questions in the first place. This interaction felt dismissive and disrespectful, and the lack of basic communication from both the driver and management was unacceptable. I would not recommend this company based on this experience, especially if you are a female. read more

One of the worst services in the country. They will take advantage of you as they're near a college campus and price gauge. The tow fee is more expensive than Chicago's tow fee and they had 120 dollars worth of extra fees without providing proof. Extremely incompetent staff who can't keep track of things. They deserve all the negative stars. AAA was called, and Feldkamps found out about the dispatch, knew it was taking too long and called AAA to demand they dispatch it to them. They are NOT contracted with AAA. Some fluky at AAA approved it because we had been waiting over 2 hours. But Feldkamps called AAA knowing they weren't contracted with them. This is just slimey business practice. They had my car hooked when we got back to it, on the side of i74 on a Saturday night. They tried to extort my husband for $160, said they weren't contracted with AAA, and the cost was our problem. Told us we needed to pay it or they'd take it to impound. All this on the side of a dark highway with cars flying by. They tried to make it sound like it was our problem, our fault. We called the cops because none of it sounded legit--because it wasn't. While the cops were there, the actual towing company from AAA showed up. That was how we learned Feldkamps had called AAA to demand to have the dispatch. Some flunky at AAA approved it. Feldkamps knew they weren't approved by AAA. They knew damn well what they were doing. It's all a hustle for these scumbags. These people all use radio dispatch so they know who's responding slow. Once they know who's waiting, they do whatever it takes to get there and snatch the car, and won't drop it til they get a credit card from somebody. Of course AAA isn't going to give them a credit card. Worse, you stand there hassling all this out and they start charging you extra for the time they spend. We had to pay their extortion fee to get out of a dangerous situation. AAA hasn't even guaranteed yet that they'll reimburse. It was a massive FUBAR caused by these greedy slimes and made worse by imbeciles at AAA. With the traffic and the way people fly down that highway at night, it could have been far, far worse. This company is absolute scum sucking, bottom feeding crap. If you intentionally use these people, you're paying people who use predatory behaviors. read more

This place is ROBBING PEOPLE!! friday evening, my car broke down 15 minutes outside of champaign coming from Danville.. I was literally 13 miles from my tow destination... I called several companies first, but then a police officer pulled up behind me and offered to call somebody for me. That will be her faster. So I'm assuming it's someone who's contracted with the police and maybe help people out in these types of situations but no, it was not what I thought I ended up having to pay $430. Just to get my vehicle off the tow truck. There was no snow yet. No storm. It was just going to be snowing later that night. So the cops said they wanted all the vehicles off of the side of the highway, which is understandable, but basically it was to the point where I had no other option. Me and my daughter were sitting in the cop car. At that point so I felt like I was at the mercy of the officer, regardless.I could have said no, but it was freezing.It was just me and my three year old and we needed out of that situation as soon as possible so I took it.. I've read other reviews from this company and it seems like this is what they do. they steal from people basically because they're in a bind.. clearly I'm in the wrong business and should get a tow truck myself but this company is greedy and unethical and I would never be able to live with myself doing people how they have done us. The throttle cable on my motorcycle snapped while in town today. I called Feldkamp's Towing and they showed up in about 20 minutes. I can't tell you how nervous a bike owner can get seeing his/her ride hoisted up by straps and cables but the tow specialist (Chris) did an amazing job. We towed it back home and got it up into my garage. Feldkamp's was super inexpensive, very efficient, professional and took the time and care to make sure the bike was safe for its journey home. Hopefully I won't need their services again but should I need a tow, Felderkamp's is the first on my list to call. read more

Feldkamps preys off students moving in and out at the U of I. They will pull up behind you while trying to load a vehicle, boxing you in until you pay them to move their vehicle. They prey off the apartments where they know it is impossible to move without a vehicle that may not have a parking permit for a lot. They boxed us in WHILE we were moving out and sat behind us so we could not move our vehicle until we paid them. They then charged way more than we committed to with our credit card to get them to move. Do not use Feldkamps. They are unethical and they will scam your U of I students. read more

The battery in my rental car was [more than likely] dead all night. I was on the phone for about an hour with the rental agency, and they finally sent a person over from Feldkamps. The guy initially pried my car door open and was ready to call it a day. I explained that my battery was dead, and THAT was the real issue. He claimed he didn't know that, but whatever, mistakes happen. However, [I kid you not] this man stuck the jumper cables on my battery for about .2 seconds, ask me to try to turn the car, and then gave up when it didn't come on. I wish he would've been a bit more attentive to my problem instead of trying to rush to the next one. I was left stranded for another hour or so until someone else came to help and the problem was eventually resolved. read more

I used roadside assistance to have my daughter's car towed. The driver arrived and said he would have to use the dollies and told my daughter that she would have to pay an additional $100. The driver then called the dispatcher who contacted roadside assistance for payment of the additional 100. The dispatcher told the driver to go ahead with the tow although I said do not tow if is going to cost a ton of money. The dispatcher indicated that roadside assistance covered the costs. When my daughter and the vehicle arrived, the dispatcher notified the driver that I was supposed to pay an additional 45 dollars. I checked with roadside assistance a day later and discovered that this company was paid about 300 dollars for a 3 mile tow of a Chevy Malibu. Mike the owner was aware of the entire process- I spoke to him. They use deceptive business practices, unethical behavior and fraud for petty theft. May Allah reward you for your deception, and theft with the permanent loss of your business. read more

Tow truck came not long (approximately 30 min) after I called for the service. The dispatcher was professional for immediately pointing out that my car was a permanently all-wheel-drive. Tow truck driver was friendly and helpful. He lifted my car and placed the trailing wheels on dolly with remarkable care and efficiency. He also practiced a safe and courteous driving manner. Price is low with coupon in comparison with other tow trucks. I took one star off because the driver left his jump starter in my car when I confirmed that my car did not have battery problems. The clutch went out on my car and needed to get it towed to a mechanic. The shop sent James from Feldkamp's Towing, he was there in less than 30 minutes. The weather was miserable, it was snowing, wet and very cold but James still managed to get my car hooked up and on the road in less than 10 minutes. He even gave me a ride to the mechanic shop so I could settle things there. My final bill was very reasonable, we only went a few miles and my insurance reimburses me for towing but I still feel like it was a great deal. Overall, I highly recommend their service. read more

Wrost company in the world NEVER GO THERE NEVER LET THEM TOW YOUR VEHICLE OR REPAIR IT THEY ARE A MESS AND WILL LIE AND DECEIVE YOU.2 employees came out and were supposed to tow me instead I was told they did not have proper equipment to do so. I was in a bind stuck on the side of the road in near freezing temperatures cold and raining. Prior to this my tire fell off. All I needed was honesty instead the 2 employees put my tire on half way only to get me back to there shop so I could be robbed of $351.00. The studs needed to be replaced but they never did that instead they put on studs that did not fit and told me that I would be lucky to go 50 miles on the repair they did. I ended up having to take my truck else where and get help with repairs to finally get on the road and moving again which costed me another more monies. ITS A DISGRACE I AM FURIOUS. Tim the owner told me he would give me back $150.00 but never did. Feldkamps and its employees robbed me never ever go there it is AWFUL they will rob you. To make matters worst I was told by TIm to never come back and if I ever had a problem like that again loose there number because they would never help me again. This company doesn't deserve even one star. All they cared for was money. I went back to Korea for my marriage on a very snowy day for one month and got a call from my friend that he couldn't see my car anymore so i immediately called police office. Then, i figured out that my car had been towed because i improperly parked my car. I couldn't see the lines in our parking lot because of heavy snow. I immediately called this company because i knew the price would pile up if i don't bring back the car as soon as possible. A guy picked up the phone and i explained i am not able to go back to the US for one month so asked for other options, something like my friend picking up the car. That guy told me it would be just 200$ . I doubted and asked clearly i will go back after 3 weeks. He confirmed it would be "200$". And the attitude was very unkind. I am not a stupid guy and know how they make money, but i mistakenly believed this guy. When i came back from honey moon and called this company, a lady gave me a wrong spot to pick up the car, so i wasted one hour. When i managed to get there, she just told me she was confused and never apologized for misleading me. And immediately asked for 1340$. That's ridiculous. I explained what happened and told her that i heard "200$". She laughed at me, saying " 200$? Ha ha" and giggled. Very rude. It looked like a family owned business and the one who suggested "200$" seemed to be a son. And the rude lady looked his mom. And the boss might be his father. The boss suggested me "1200$" and i told him that i have to talk with my wife. While i am on the phone, the guy told my friend that " can he speak ENGLISH? ", with scorning voice. I am an international student and speak english with an accent but it is their job to deal with that and not my fault. When i was thinking about how i am going to gather the money, the boss said, "it doesn't matter whether you take the car now or tommorow, i will charge you more money. Your only option is take the car now with my price or leave the car" when i borrowed money from a friend and came back, and explained my situation again, the son just told me "give us "1200$", or leave you car, no further negotiation." I gave him the money and asked him for any proof like a photo copy because i was just curious, but he said "no photo, your car parked in the middle of line". I paid money and left the spot and later realized i have a black box camera installed. I watched video and observed angles from camera and parked same way. It could be slightly crossing the my line but not in the middle of lane. I attached a photo of proof. I am not blaming my neighbor at all. If i caused any inconvenience, he or she is entitled to have my car towed, but the towing company should have informed me of the price. We waited an hour and had to call back. He said he would come in 5 minutes, but didn't come for another 15 after that. Then, instead of towing, he tried to jump the car from his jump box, which he said cost the same as towing. Eventually the car started, but since we felt the problem was with the alternator, he suggested driving it directly to the mechanic (which was exactly what I was thinking, anyway). He said he would follow us all the way there in case we broke down. When we were out in the street we started having all kinds of problems with our gauges, but since the car seemed to be acting fine and the tow operator was following us, we thought we would be fine. When we had about a mile to go, the tow operator turned the opposite direction than we did and WE WERE ON OUR OWN!!! Our car barely made it to the shop and broke down just as we got into the parking space!!! I called the number and the guy said he THOUGHT we'd be ok with "only a few blocks" to go so he decided to head back to base! We could have been stranded with our car in the middle of the street and this guy acted like he didn't give a care!!! If it were completely up to me (which I didn't feel it was!) I would have preferred the guy just tow the car away to the shop and then we could have just walked a short distance home instead of having to ride a CAB because there were no buses that day, especially since jumping and towing now cost the same (which I find to be TOTALLY OUTRAGEOUS!)!!!
