I was coming in from out of town for my daughter's wedding and I didn't know what to expect. EVERYONE was so friendly and eager to make me look beautiful! My makeup and hair exceeded any expectations I might have had walking in! Laura, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure I looked my very best. I brought my wedding outfit to change into, along with a portable steamer. When I mentioned that I was going to use the steamer on my skirt, she insisted on doing it for me. She didn't want my hair and makeup to be affected by the steam. When it looked like my husband was lost and wouldn't be able to pick me up in time for family wedding photos at the Nixon Library (just down the street), Laura insisted on driving me there herself. She got me there in time. Crisis averted. I really can't say enough about the GREAT staff, services, Laura, and my wonderful experience. It was AMAZING!!! I've decided to give my hair some treatment after 5 years of non-salon-ish stuff. Except for the…read moreonce a year haircut, I haven't done anything to my hair. Ever since it got fried in 2010 after a $300 straightening treatment. Besides, who has time for these now? =) I found Anne from Plus Hair Pro on Groupon, and opted for the Yuko Smoothing Treatment. I was ready for 4 painful hours at the salon. I was wrong. Not only was Anne pleasant, and gentle (I could not tell you how many times my head has been pulled back by a flat iron, or being stuck at the sink for a while with my neck hyperextended, just waiting), she was educational as well. I felt like I was having a class on hair care. Anne told me how to flat iron my hair at home, which type of product to use (without pushing to buy it at the salon), what kind of haircut might look good, how to part my hair, etc. I've never gotten this type of (pleasant) lecture from anyone! She's also honest about the Yuko treatment, letting you know that you will not expect stick-straight hair, but lets you know how to manage it. My hair is not super straight, but it is notably less frizzy, smoother and easier to flat iron. Everything Anne does has a rationale behind it. And she'll explain it you really well, like there's a science behind it. And when she mentioned that she currently teaches classes at CSF, it all made sense. She loves her job, AND teaching! Moreover, she is currently a student herself, getting her degree in teaching, which explains why she is not available some days at the salon. I bet there's a lot more to learn from Anne. I'll be back in 8 months to learn more, and possibly get the layered haircut she recommended.
