So what's the issue? The service. The service was absolutely dreadful. Please pretend you want to serve your guests. No drink refills. Limited interaction. Visited the location at Dutchman's Lane on a Sunday afternoon and enjoyed a wonderful meal. An order of Felipe's Burrito with option of chicken and a side of rice and an order of the same with option of steak and black beans and both were delicious. We had so much food that it was a bonafide day of rest and didn't have to cook later. Extremely affordable -- under $40. Basket of warm tortilla chips and small containers of mild and hot salsa were brought to the table to start. Large drinks and plenty of refills were served in the blink of an eye. Service is A+ with multiple friendly waitstaff checking in periodically without being intrusive. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with upbeat music playing in the background. Booth seating was comfortable and high partition dividers lent to an intimate space. Decor is bright and colorful. Easy access to free parking lot with plenty of space. Noticed the large outdoor patio dining area and looking forward to warmer weather to experience a return visit. read more

Did you know that this restaurant has $10 lunch specials? Today I got the delicious chile relleno lunch special. The chile relleno was spicy -- but not overly in my book -- and smothered in a tasty red sauce. The refried beans and rice accompanying it were tasty too, and the food was well presented. My server was nice and knowledgeable. Complimentary tortilla chips and salsa were provided for free as an appetizer. However, the tortilla chips tasted kind of like those communion wafers that I think taste like paper. Unless this restaurant upgrades, I recommend skipping or going light on those. We haven't been to Felipe Mexican Restaurant and thought we'd give it a try. Service was prompt and friendly. Warm chips and two salsas (one spicy/the other mild) were quickly brought to our table. Water wasn't far behind. My wife ordered the Los Cabos Special and I chose lunch fajitas. Both dishes were served piping hot. My wife's shrimp were ok. Barely any seasoning. And a smaller portion than similar "Tex-Mex" restaurants. My steak fajitas were also standard fare, with one piece of grizzle mixed into the order. Flour tortillas were on the smaller side. The side dishes for the fajitas were the usual crisp lettuce, guacamole, rice & black beans. Felipe Mexican provided a decent lunch. Particularly for the price point. But nothing really stood out. This was the first visit for our family. We were in the area to visit a family member who had surgery and this restaurant is near the hospital. Plenty of parking and we had no wait for a table. The menu offered a variety of items and slightly different than other Mexican restaurants. The queso and chips were standard. Watch out for the hot salsa - it is fiery! The kids hamburger was lackluster. The fajita tacos with chicken wasn't bad but I wasn't crazy about the mushiness of the vegetables. This spot is good for groups. Plenty of tables for small and large parties. Service is a bit slow. I'd come back if someone asked me too but otherwise this isn't a spot on my recommendation list. read more

The first time we went in, the food was great. The second time, we ordered take out and items were missing (pico de gallo and guacamole.) They say three times a charm...the chimichanga's were not fried and only had meat in them. Of course, the guacamole was missing again. This time I checked before I left, so I got the guacamole. Ever since, several years hence, we forgot to make Valentine's reservations we've been going out for Mexican to celebrate the holiday. There are many reasons this is an excellent idea: no need for reservations, typically not busy, so many menu options, delicious. Weirdly, most people don't seem to want beans and spicy food on Valentine's. This year was no exception. We dined at Felipe and the entire experience was glorious. We were greeted enthusiastically and immediately seated at a table festooned with a cheerful Valentine's balloon. Within one minute of being seated chips and two different salsas arrived (one with predominantly tomato-esque flavor, the other more peppery - both delightful). Our food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering, appropriately hot, and delicious. My meal included: - Bean burrito (just the right balance between flour tortilla and beans, topped with yet another unique salsa) - Mexican rice (excellent flavor, crispy/chewy on the outside, softer on the inside) - Refried beans (I'm a sucker for these, and Felipe's are definitely top 5) As we were leaving, our server asked my spouse, "May I give the lady a gift?" Las enchiladas de mole eran fantásticas. The mole enchiladas were fantastic. The best mole I've ever had - hands down. You can taste the spices and while it has a tang of sweetness it is not overpowering the important spice notes. Buen provecho!!! The Jalapeño margarita was made fresh, with just the right amount of kick! I could taste the Tajin I'm the salt rim. Felipes added additional jalapeños for those of us with the desire to pack even more of a spice punch! Vegan options, healthy options, the ability to adjust meals due to allergies. Felipe Mexican restaurant is a Dutchman's lane eatery located right across from all the hospitals and doctors offices in that area of louisville. After leaving a ultrasound with my wife around lunch time last week me and her had an urge for some Mexican food. So we stopped in at this former senor iguana location. Upon walking in the place was fairly empty so we sat down immediately. The decor and tables here were very lovely and had the authentic Mexican establishment feel to it. You are brought complimentary chips and salsa (always a plus when eating Mexican). The chips and salsa had a great flavor and was very good. Our service here wasn't great. There was a slight language barrier where I actually pointed to the quesadilla de light meal but explained I wanted it without an ingredient. So the waitress brought me out an individual quesadilla the size of a Taco Bell cheese roll up at first. After getting help from a co worker they got my order correct. The quesadilla de light was good but very different. Came with a white queso sauce on top with oh was good but came with the pico de gallo on the inside which was different. I'm a oily eater and there only parts of the pico de gallo I like (hits the red sauce pretty much). So it hindered my dining experience slightly. However it was still tasty overall. My wife ordered some Mexican street corn as an app (it came out same time as her meal) and a pollo ranchero. She loved her corn and said it was great. She said the pollo ranchero was just solid. Overall this place has potential. It has some minor kinks like overcoming barriers and attention to detail (I pointed to the menu what I wanted when I realized the barrier) and bringing out apps before entrees. Other then that the Service was quick and the food overall was above average. The chips and salsa to me was the best thing I tasted here. read more

Felipe is one of the better Mexican restaurants in Louisville. I spend a lot of time traveling in Mexico for business. There are simply foods I love to eat in Mexico that I cannot find here in Kentucky. Tacos De Guisado, Tuétano, Posole, Arrachera, Picanha, and so much more are just not something you find in Kentucky. Most of what we have here is Tex-Mex and that's just fine but I am always on the lookout for that authentic Mexican food. Felipe's is one of the only places where I can find really tasty posole and Molcajete. The staff there is super friendly and amazingly fast. The ambiance in the restaurant is very typical of any common American-Mexican restaurant but Felipe's is always clean. I do recommend Felipe's over any of the other popular Mexican places in Louisville because they do offer a few other items that are not on those other menus. Give them a try and you won't be disappointed. read more

This is a busy and lively restaurant. Television on all the walls. Has a very nice bar area. The whole staff is nice and always checking on you. The food was excellent and plenty of it. Too full to have any dessert. My burrito was close to a foot long and stuffed with steak, chicken, mushrooms, peppers, and onions. My wife's 2 burritos were very tasty as well. As you can guess it was really really wild! it was amazing to see how the servers worked so well under the circumstances of so many people being there, I said at the bar because I knew that I had come at the wrong time but sometimes you just want to eat and you have the time so you're willing to wait which I did it was an hour I waited and they got me the wrong order so I knew that there would be some issues and I left and came back on Monday well it was well worth it. The waitress was very cordial and spoke some English but my order was right and it was great and you have the pictures to see the food was delicious the atmosphere was nice and I plan on going again the price was great. read more

Very cute place however, the food was way below average! The guacamole was the worst I have ever eaten. I had 2 bites and didn't touch it. I got the veggie fajitas and the veggies were not very seasoned. My friend got a chicken burrito and she wasn't happy either. My refried beans were runny! I am truly shocked at the number of good reviews. I have had better meals at I Love Tacos and Taco Luchador. The service was just okay. Food and service has always been good which pains me to write this review. I ordered their fried avocado tacos and for $12.00, you would expect more than just a sliver of avocado on a flour tortilla. The avocado pieces on each of the 3 tortillas was literally the size of your thumb or slightly less than half a roll of dimes. No joke. One of the cups they served us soda in was dirty and had gunk inside of it like if it wasn't washed. I ordered the ceviche and it was the nastiest ceviche I have ever had.
