Unfortunately, my experience with Fence Menders was very negative. Communication from the project manager, Chris, was consistently lacking, and several decisions were made without my approval. The price seemed high and the quality of workmanship was poor. As one example, the gate was painted just before rainfall, causing the paint to wash off; something that should have been easily anticipated and avoided. Additionally, the gate hinge broke first time using the gate, sprinkler pipes were broken. This company was chosen by a neighbor with whom I share a fence, not by me. Waited for weeks for them to come out. Was told I was too far out of the way (I'm in Rancho Santa Margarita). Finally they came out after I called to say I was canceling to go with someone else. Our gate was stiff and sagging down after a few days of installation. They came out to fix it a couple months later, then after a couple of weeks it started getting stiff and sagging again. So it looks like I'm going to have to buy a new gate less than a year after Fence Menders installed one for almost $800. Very disappointing. read more

When we contacted this company, Kevin Hall promptly came out on 3/26/21 to meet with us. We showed him the areas of our fence that needed repairs, along with the repairs needed for our 2 wrought iron gates. Our proposal for $1,310.00 arrived on 3/30/21. We signed it on 4/15/21 and returned it along with our check for the requested 50% deposit. On 7/19/21, after 3 months of numerous unreturned or unproductive phone calls, emails and text messages; we finally drove to their offices in an attempt to get them to schedule and do our work. We met with the owner, Ron Slight. After explaining everything to him (in great detail), including the fact that we had recently discovered that the repair work we needed and had originally discussed with Kevin Hall regarding our 2 gates was evidently (or inadvertently) not written up OR included on our proposal. Mr. Slight very kindly agreed with us that this was not acceptable, he apologized and gave us his assurances that we would be promptly and fully taken care of, including our 2 gates. One of the main issues causing Fence Menders delay was their claim that the 2 new bricks (which were included on our proposal), could not be located anywhere. Mr. Slight's grandson, (Jeff who now manages the company), emphaticalIy told me that after an extensive search at many building supply places, (including Thompson Building Materials), that to match my bricks, they would have to be custom made. Our home is a tract home, and I did not believe that the bricks were special. Therefore, on 8/2/21 I drove to Thompson Building Materials myself. I quickly and easily purchased 2 of the exact bricks that were needed! Fence Menders FINALLY arrived on Thursday, 8/5/21 to do the repairs. Kevin Hall stopped by to check on the 2 crew members doing the work. He said that a part was needed that had to be ordered for 1 of the gates. He told us that he had already ordered it; and that they would return another day to do the gates. He said that he indeed did remember having been shown the gates when he did our original proposal. Long story short, the crew did an excellent job on the repairs which they did. However, without even a phone call or any kind of an explanation, a new proposal arrived on 8/9/21 from Keven at Fence Menders for an additional $850.00, if we wished to have the work done which was needed on the gates. Needless to say, by now we had lost all trust, faith and patience with this unprofessional and dishonest company. They do not honor their written contracts or even the verbal assurances of the owner. Kevin came out to measure and figure out options for an outdoor banister/railing for our front steps. We were delayed by HOA requests, but Kevin made additional drawings to assist. The railings were ready for installation only to find irrigation pipes in the way. As soon as pipes were moved, Kevin had the installation team arrive the next day. Touch up paint was added and they look and feel sturdy and safe as well as a great addition. Can't say enough about professional and courteous team. read more

Upon comparing the two other estimates with that of Fence Menders it was clear that Fence Menders was a fair price. Upon the arrival of their crew, they went right to work and completed the task in no time at all. The job was finished I was contacted by the crew so that I can expect the work prior to them leaving. As I examined both gates that were repaired, they look brand-new. I must say the work exceeded my expectations. The work area was clean as though no work had been performed. I had a great experience with Fence Menders. I called for a quote on a wrought iron gate repair. Jeff came out within 3 days and coincidentally, an additional problem had occurred with another iron gate in the interim. I received the repair quote within 2 business days and sent my approval the next day. Three days later both gates were repaired. The crew that came out did a great job (this was custom work requiring welding, concrete, sleeving etc.) They were fast, polite, clean and efficient. The job was done faster than I expected. The work was top notch. Both gates look brand new. I did not quote anyone else but I felt the price was very fair for the work done. Pros: Friendly service. Quick work and flexible schedule for bid and producing fences/gates. Quick and friendly installation. Fairly tidy; however, I had to ask them to remove the paint that they left dripping down my bricks (not sure of they would have done this on their own), which was removed. I appreciate speed but not haste. Cons: Some issues with paint (not remedied), damage to stucco covered up by new gate (not remedied) and wrong locks used (this was remedied). Decent price, so it's what you'd expect when you go with the low bid. I'll have to make up the difference in price hiring someone else to touch up their work. Most of my fencing looks great--it's just the front gate (most visible) area I'm not pleased with. read more
