My boyfriend and I visited this food truck, and the person working there (Aman or Amar) addressed only him, completely ignoring me. While we were deciding what to order, he told my boyfriend not to listen to a woman, saying that a man doesn't need a woman to make a decision and that he would make him great shawarma man to man. This was on my birthday, and it completely ruined my day. When I confronted him for being openly sexist, he did not apologize to me. Instead, he apologized to my boyfriend. When I mentioned that I was Muslim, he finally said "Sorry, Muslim to Muslim," which made me realize that if I had not been Muslim, I might not have received any apology at all. He also told us he is the owner, which means this is not just a problem with an employee - it is the owner himself who is sexist. I have lived in the U.S. for years and have never experienced such blatant gender discrimination. I was shocked, hurt, and deeply disappointed. No customer should be treated this way.
