I was disappointed by several things. Some were important things other things were not very important. First impressions - the exterior of the "house" was in disrepair because the paint or wood stain was peeled away in 2 spots. There was no identification on the front door. Restaurants will usually have some type of signage at the front door. Maybe a few fresh flower planters to brighten up the entry way. The deck was not in use due to high winds. Our server was very nice. Both she and the manager asked us several times if everything was ok. It really wasn't but we did not have time to wait for hot fries to be made and for an as requested medium cooked hamburger to be made. Since I did not speak up that was on me so I didn't dock any stars for that. There were so many reviews mentioning their juicy hamburgers. The well done one I was served was not juicy.

The food just wasn't there same (pastrami on a pretzel roll used to be amazing) and the bar area, where we always ate was unkempt. The peanuts and popcorn were stale and the bartender didn't want to be there. It was just sad. We won't be back, but we have friends in the area that feel the same. Hope the best for them.

There are two sections to the Frontier Pub; the restaurant part and the smaller cozy pub. When eight of us arrived around 5:30 PM on a Friday evening, the pub was about 3/4 full. This has to be the most comfortable pub in the Western burbs. With sofas and easy chairs throughout, you can really kick back and relax. There is a small bar where the friendly bartender was chatting with her customers. The real attraction on this 7 degree evening was the warm fireplace that was already staked out by 10-12 Fermilab researchers and their families enjoying Two Brothers brews. Since we had a relatively large group we walked over to the restaurant section which is brightly lit with a couple of TV's on the wall. They have several beautiful Bison photos and a huge taxidermied Bison head hanging on the walls. It's a comfortable room but not fancy. The limited menu is standard pub food but its all prepared quite well. Our group ordered turkey burgers, hamburgers, black bean burger, grilled chicken and the special of the day; spinach calzone. I had the grilled chicken which came with fries ($6.50) and it was perfect. The people that ordered the spinach calzone said that they really enjoyed it. We shared pitchers of Two Brothers Bison Head Ale ($15 pitcher) which is a delicious brown ale brewed just for The Frontier Pub. It's a basic menu but the food is prepared with care. I also need to mention that our server was just delightful. (I wish I would have gotten her name.). Even the bartender came over from the pub to chat us up. The good food, unique setting, great service and friendly crowd all add up to 5-stars for me. Fermilab is a great break from your hectic grind. Come out and see the bison herd or even go birdwatching. At the end of your day of exploring, The Frontier Pub is a great place to quench your thirst and fill your belly. Who knows, you might even strike up a conversation with an atomic physicist!

Our waitress greeted us warmly and quickly brought out water and coffee. She did a great job of keeping both glasses and mugs full throughout the meal. We did not wait long for our food after we ordered it. I got their brunch burrito with a side of fruit. The burrito was a good size, not too small but not so big that I could not finish it. I got it with bacon as my meat and dipped it in the chipotle vinaigrette on the side as I ate it. It was awesome! I really loved that instead of black beans, there were refried beans in it, as they added a great creaminess to the meal. The fruit bowl was also impressive to me, as it was full of diverse fresh fruit. It was better than the normal assorted melons I am used to at restaurants. I got an iced salted caramel latte to go before leaving since we had a long car ride ahead of us. It was on the sweet side, with little espresso flavor coming through, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. I would love to come back on a busier weekend when the place is more lively and try their huge lunch menu!

The inside of the restaurant was fine the tables were sticky but after they cleaned it again it was fine. The service was great but the food really just ruined it especially because it was $25 per person for my family. Somebody in my family also had to return their food back the steak was extremely rubbery and dry will not be coming back.

But the star is the large wonderful patio, nicely spaced out, and not too crowded. The menu is pretty typical bar centric fare, but big enough to have something for everyone. Being lunch we wanted something smaller/lighter and both got the turkey bacon grinder. For drinks I got an excellent hazy pale ale that I never had before from Penrose Brewing called Goofy Boots and my wife had a bloody mary that was on special. Great Drinks.... check. For sides I got fries as they listed fresh cut fries and my wife got chips. The fries were awesome, they know how to cook fries, perfectly cooked, great crisp and well browned/done. The sandwitches were very good and abit unique, turkey, melted provolone and what they call grinder salad which was like a coleslaw made with lettuce. A perfect lunch, good sandwich and amazing fries...I'd go back and just eat fries and be perfectly happy.

Honestly prefer the desserts more than the food here, although we've had dinner here two or three times I think, but the desserts have always been what's most memorable to me. I still think about the apple cider donuts we ate here last fall. Whoever the pastry chef is here is amazing!! The dessert menu is constantly changing we can't even keep up, but it is always on theme with the season. This most recent time, we ordered the Smores Baked Alaska and Blueberry Shortcake. Both were soo good, but I liked the smores baked alaska the most--the different layered textures and flavors were perfect.

Note: The service was something that left being desired. We ordered 3 mains: Sausage Pasta, Roasted Chicken, and shaved beef. Two sides of a simple green salad and pasta salad. In addition to rolls. They were going to serve this with water and coffee. To sit 40 people for two hours cost $1700. This was far too much food for 40 people. Though the single scoop of ice cream for a plate cleanser was appreciated. We asked for coffee as it wasn't ready at the time that people were arriving and it was provided. We asked for soda for some variety and they said that they could do so for an additional $2/head. We did so. Bad: When the meal was done we had over half of it left. When we went to see about taking the food with us they had thrown it away. The company said that it was a law that caterers couldn't give out the food. My aunt who ran a similar business in the state of Illinois said she would sign a waiver. The manager said it is against the FDA laws and refused to even just simply state it was the restaurants policy. When my aunt pushed on losing the second half of the food that was paid for they merely gave her three buffet tickets. For the lost of several hundred dollars of food they offset it by three $17.95 tickets. If you are socially conscious about food waste as our family is, only order two trays and a side for 40 people. It is better to leave hungry than to feel the food is simply thrown away. Ways to Improve: Being told this upfront at the time of hosting is important. It will make sure the right amount of food is ordered and dozens of people are not left wondering what happened with the leftovers. The place was clean and so I applaud that.
