I am yet to be disappointed with the food here! I go enough that Fernando knows I go for the seafood saute 99.99% of the time. Today I switched it up and ordered a carnitas quesadilla and let me tell you, it was amazing!!!!! The meat was cooked perfectly and flavored to perfection. Had a delicious lunch here. Everything is made from scratch, including the salad dressings. The owner/chef was very pleasant and accommodating to some special dietary needs. He was happy to pan fry the fish for fish tacos since we are gluten-free and can't do breading. Looking forward to eating here again. read more

It's a cute little restaurant with some amazing food. Based on their recommendations we tried two of the specials: pozole and carnitas tacos. After a promise that it would be the best pozole I've ever had, I was a bit skeptical ;-). But they did deliver on their promise and it was one of the best pozoles I've ever had (it ties with a pozole verde, that I love to get in Sacramento). And the carnitas tacos were really great also. I hope to be able to try more of their menu and visit again soon. read more

My husband had been here once before. We live in Loomis but we're in Yuba City for basketball tournament so he wanted to take me there. The food was amazing. I had the chicken feta with rice and veggies. It was so fresh and flavorful. My husband had the chipotle pasta with chicken and he loved it. This is a very good little restaurant. The menu is limited, but each item is delicious. Pity there is no beer, but maybe in time... The food is tasty and inventive. My only caveat is that the servings are generous, and with food that good it is easy to overeat and be sluggish upon returning to work. I have walked by this place many times and never tried it out because I had had a very mediocre meal at a different restaurant in the same location. Foolish me! Today my wife and I had the daily special. I had pozole, which was the tastiest I have ever had outside of Mexico. My wife had calamari steaks, which was also delicious, in a savory sriracha sauce. I guess you'd call this food California fusion. I'd call it just darn good. If you are on Plumas Street and hungry, be sure to go to Fenando's. read more

I have been to Fernando's a few time its always been super tasty. I know it can take a little while to be served, no biggie. I was going for lunch so I put in a telephone order so I wouldn't be late back to work. I asked for the food to be ready at a certain time and the waitress that took the order said fine. I got there and was greeted and told to sit anywhere. I told them I did a phone order and had brought an extra person to order. The waitress came to the table to ask what name the order was under and left didn't ask if we wanted drinks. She was rude. My friend that I brought went up to the register to order because she was taking a while to come back to the table, and was told to go sit at the table she will be there in a min. It took 10mins for her to come back to the table just to tell us that no one put in the order and it was only the 2 waitresses there. I had now wasted over half of my lunch only to have to return to work without my food. The food here always tastes amazing but service can be better. read more

I stopped in on a whim, they have pretty umbrellas outside if you want outdoor seating and it caught my eye. It's a small place and very clean. This place is not your typical taco shop, oh no! Be ready for very high quality food cooked perfectly! You can get gorgeous dishes bent to Italian fare, like the shrimp scampi I got, or more Mexican like the fish tacos my husband got. Both were absolutely fabulous. There is a regular menu plus a large board as you walk in with daily specials. I'll be going back very soon, I highly recommend this place! read more

Our first experience here and four of us had the fish tacos GF style- grilled, not battered. Superb!! Amazing sauce and flavor, crispy corn shells and executed perfectly. The tri tip sandwich was on point! All fresh ingredients and delicious homemade BBQ sauce. I was able to cut my sandwich in half with a butter knife! Really cute on the outside!! Server was sooo sweet! I got the smothered burrito and it was so disgusting :( I was so sad!! Looked so good! Just tasted like straight sugar. I love experiencing different food options and the cultures surrounding them. One reason why I came in to "Fernando's Cali Kitchen" originally was the name: You expect maybe burgers and other beach or summer type foods reading the sign, and possibly a modern touch of sorts (Yellow lightbulbs describing a larger than life experience perhaps :) Surprisingly, I found their assortment of pasta dishes, seafood options and the "Latin/Spanish theme" inside to be quite refreshing. The assortment of color and tapestry choices, mixed with an artistic flavor central to the Latin community really set off the experience (very attractive :) So far I've had a couple of their pasta dishes including their "Portuguese Pasta" (Really delicious! and the sauce is ON POINT); and one of the girls that works there had such an outgoing, professional yet distinctly warm attitude that I'm probably coming back a lot more in the future (she even helped me when she was on her break!) Like any experience, with the positive, there can also be certain detracting qualities that, when improved upon will really make any place shine! A couple points of suggested improvement: 1) If you order the "seafood" pastas, you should be aware of the added "shrimp tail shells" included (the nice presentation is a good focus to have as a standard; however when it comes to pasta dishes, you don't expect the need for the consumer to overthink about *swallowing a shell* - Pasta should be a: "grab a fork and dig in" type dish, just saying :) 2) Along the same lines: there should be an option to de-shell the tail (even at a slight added cost); maybe I just need to experience more of the culture, and maybe it's a regular thing among culinary circles (to add the tail shell); *Also: When it comes to customer service (especially in the food industry), when a customer asks, "is it possible to de-shell the shrimp", you don't normally expect to hear from the staff, "I don't think he would do that" (at the very least they could recommend a comparable dish - being told "no" can push away a customer vs. a customer still spending money for an experience tailored to their needs: successful business transaction, happy customer!) Overall a lovely experience. read more
