We ordered strawberry margaritas while waiting for 2 more people to join our party. The first margarita was not bad. It had decent strawberry flavor. After the 2 joined our party, it took quite a while to get the servers' attention to order more drinks and food. I ordered another strawberry margarita and the Fernando Tex-Mex platter. This margarita had so much strawberry mixer in it compared to the first one. It made it too sweet. The Fernando had plenty of food, and the beef enchilada was my favorite. Placed a curbside order on a Sunday evening and when I arrived at the pick up spot and called the restaurant, I was told that the worker was too busy to bring it out and that I needed to come in. When I came inside and waited a bit, I finally was able to pick up the order, but the drinks weren't ready. Waited some more for that, and then was able to get the food and go home. We've visited Fernando's a few times now and have found our experience has been good and consistent as we've tried different drinks and dishes. The servers have always been friendly and attentive as well. They will start you off with chips and three different types of salsas. It gives a nice variety of flavors depending on your preference for heat and taste. Their Chile Relleno (aka: called Hector) is delicious. It was the right balance of breading and the ranchera sauce added to the flavor of the dish. What was a bit of a surprise was the side of vegetables the dish came with - it was a great medley of zucchini, squash, cauliflower, etc. It was a nice addition to the typical refried beans and rice. I had enough to eat for dinner and left half of everything to enjoy the next day for lunch. My husband has tried their Pollo Con Mole Poblano. The mole sauce had great flavor and the chicken was really tender. At our last visit last week, I went with the Mario choosing chicken filling with the sour cream sauce. It was so flavorful I was having a hard time holding back and not eating it all so I'd have lunch for the next day (the portion again was generous). My husband ordered the Valentino which had the same chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce as in mine and also really enjoyed the flavor. His dish also included a cheese enchilada, and a beef taco. I went with a small group for lunch and we sat on the patio. All but one of us ordered from the lunch menu and the majority of us were disappointed with our food. This place os too expensive to be providing such poor quality food. My brisket tacos were pretty good, but everyone else was very sad about their food- especially my friend that ordered the lunch burritos. It was just chicken wrapped in a tortilla. The food is ok, service was ok, but in terms of environment it's just very plain. A Mexican restaurant, in my opinion, should bring forth a lot of the beautiful history of Mexican culture. There is a reason D magazine has not been to this restaurant. The tortillas are NOT home made. I asked the waiter and he said they have never had homemade tortillas. Taco Cabana has better tortillas than this place. I am ranting here but the other reviews are very misleading. For appetizer we had the queso with brisket. The queso tasted and looked like velveeta cheese. My mother in law makes better queso in her crockpot. I had the Valentino. It was ok. My wife had the Pachuga de Pollo. She liked the vegetables the best. I was anticipating this place being a lot better. It's in a great location. The place looks nice. I think they are trying to be too upscale. Go back to the basics. My daughter had tamale and cheese enchilada, a staple of Tex-Mex, and theirs never lets you down. I've had flautas and beef and chicken fajita tacos that just amazing. Fernando's is a clear front runner for me and I go whenever I have a chance. They are moderately priced, so not cheap, unless you stop by for lunch, which is a bargain in my opinion. A really lively place! The location is perfect - it's next to other eateries and the Cityline courtyard that hosts weekend concert at night. It is always busy here and the atmosphere is great! It seems like it's a great place for group get together, family gathering, and I intimate date night. The food is great! We had the fajita special and that came with tons of sides and fixings. The shrimp cocktail is so addictive. We were lucky to get a booth seat and enjoy the indoor. They also have lots of outdoor seating that's great for enjoying the weather and the music on those special nights. I think service was just fine - the waitress was available when we need her and came to check in at the right time midway. Some of the servers are so talented carrying those heavy tray over their head without losing balance - that's skills!! In regards to parking, if you're lucky, you might be able to get street parking. But if not, there is a free visitor garage where you can park, but some walking will be required. I love that this restaurant has a decent sized patio area, and that was where I enjoyed brunch. I started off with the ceviche. To my surprise, it was a fairly big serving! I know it's meant to be shared but it can be a meal by itself. And plenty of seafood can be found inside. I also ordered the omelette with chorizo. The meal was a bit greasy, but good nonetheless. This place doesn't really shine above the rest of the available Tex-Mex restaurants in the area, but it's definitely worth checking out! read more

It's so hard to find a good Mexican restaurant. But this was the one!! From the chips to the appetizers, everything was sooo good. Me and my friend weren't looking to eat much so we both shared the appetizer. I thought the nachos would be too cheesy, but they actually ended up being really good and to my surprise had beans inside of them. Our drinks were good. We had 3 of them and weren't to drunk, but we were at the perfect level. The chips tasted like they were home made and so fresh. All the flavors of the salsa were good, but of course the red one was my favorite. I would have given this place 5 stars, but our waitress was not feeling us. I don't know if she was having bad day, but the looks she was giving and the energy she had was off. It wasn't until later that she came around, but by then the guy who I'm not sure is the manager or owner was taking care of us. He was sooo amazing! Visited this restaurant after a very long time. This is close to where I work but not a regular joint. The reason for visiting this time was for a holiday lunch with co-workers. We were a group of 6 and the service was quite good but I thought the food lacked flavor. I ordered 2 Chicken Tacos and the chicken while the quantity was quite good lacked any flavor. It was cooked shredded chicken with minimal seasoning between tortillas. The tacos were served with shredded lettuce, chopped tomato, and cheese. No Pico-d-Gallo, or any salsa. I've been here twice now. Once for lunch and once for dinner. I love the location. There's two parking garages right next to the restaurant if you can't find parking out front. The restaurant itself is very open. They have a small bar off to the right when you walk in. From 4:30-6:30 (I think 4:30 was the start time) they have HH. Margaritas were just $4.50. Their food is a little more expensive than Mi Cocina and similar places but well worth it! For food the beef fajita nachos are very good. The beef was very tender and juicy. The ceviche is also good. It could have used a little more cilantro but overall still very good. I love that they give you 4 different salsa's and they aren't in those tiny little cup/bowl things. Both times I came in I had my son with me. The staff was so accommodating and kind when I asked if I could keep his stroller next to the table. I knew after he had his bottle he would fall asleep and I didn't want to hold him the whole time. If you're a mom you know Mexican food is hard to eat one handed! I always manage to drop food on myself or him! Lol The waiters moved chairs and pushed back tables just so I could comfortably place his stroller. I really appreciate restaurants like this who go out of their way to help a mom with an infant feel comfortable in their restaurant. Always a wonderful experience every time I come to Fernando's. They have some of the BEST salsa ever. As soon as you sit down, they bring you four different salsas to try, and they are all so delish!! Also, their sangria is great! They put lemonade in there so it adds a bit of a tangy flavor! Drove past here earlier on my way to a salon appointment next door and the patio was packed (Saturday brunch) so I figured I just must stop in for a bite afterwards. Brunch goes until 4pm on the weekend, but for food I opted to choose from the regular lunch menu. My choice - FILETE PEDREGAL - a Beef tenderloin filet, grilled and served with a cognac and green and black peppercorn sauce along with rice and grilled vegetables. That cognac/peppercorn sauce was EVERYTHING! I LOVE sauce, and the flavors were just rich and delightful! My steak was prepared as I requested and just so tender with every bite! Pretty decent sized portion - I could not finish it all. Brunch cocktails - several choices and all $3.75 each - mimosas, bloody marys, screwdrivers, margarita swirls, house margaritas, and frozen blueberry mojitos.
