One of a few restaurants that I'll make frequent returns to and recommend to others. I have visited Mena's for Tex Mex since 2018. I love that their service, regardless of day and time is very consistent. There dishes, salsas and chips have consistent quality and taste each visit. Drinks are great. I rarely have to ask for more drinks, salsa or chips. EVERYTHING I have tried on their menu is delicious. Recently went on a Friday for a 11 top bday party. This was my second time visiting Mena's Grill, but my first time dining in and sitting at the bar. Customer service was excellent -- truly a 5 out of 5. The bartender was attentive, kind, and professional. The atmosphere felt welcoming, and you can tell they have loyal regulars, which always speaks well of a restaurant. The staff overall seemed consistent and friendly. Now for the food. I ordered the queso to start. The flavor was good, but it wasn't hot -- more lukewarm than fresh-out-the-kitchen warm. For my entrée, I had the skirt steak with beans, pico de gallo, enchilada, and rice. The flavors were solid, but again, the plate came out lukewarm. For a Tex-Mex spot, temperature really matters. I don't need it piping hot, but I do expect my food to feel freshly made and properly heated when it arrives. That was my only disappointment. I've ordered carryout before without issue, and because the service and vibe are strong, I will definitely be back to give it another try. I just hope next time the food comes out hot and fresh. We are regulars here at Mena's, for 15 years Let me just say we have NEVER had cold food, it's always piping hot. And the margaritas are strong and well priced, we have eaten at other mexican food establishments and they charge $18 for sweet lime-aid. We usually ask for Eric since he's our favorite! My family and I decided to order and pick up some Mena's Tex-Mex Grill Cantina while we were traveling. I ordered the food online and paid with a credit card while in our vehicle traveling to our destination. It was easy and fast. I ordered it for a specific pickup time expecting that we'd get it close to that time but I got a text while we were on the road saying that it was ready but we were about 15 minutes away so our food was ready faster than we expected. Once we got to the restaurant my husband went in and gave them my name and got our food right away. After heading to our hotel we went up to our room to eat. I ordered a Full order of the Nachos Locos with Chicken. The Nachos were round tortilla chips with beans, cheese, and chicken on them, and they came with some guacamole, sour cream, and jalapenos. I also ordered the Fajitas with Chicken. The Fajitas came with rice, beans, grilled onions and peppers, potatoes, and tortillas. The Nachos Locos with Chicken were okay. They were semi soggy due to being made quick and our delay in the pickup but I wonder how much crispier they would have been if we sat down to eat our meal in the restaurant and got them out fresh. They were still pretty good. The chicken on the nachos was plentiful, the beans added a little flavor and the cheese was melted and semi gooey. The guacamole, sour cream and jalapenos were fresh and added more flavor to the nachos. The Fajitas with Chicken were delicious. The fajita chicken was cooked perfectly. The grilled onions and peppers added a lot of flavor and the potatoes were delicious. I combined all of the ingredients together onto a flour tortilla to create three very filling tacos. The rice needed a little more cooking as some of it was a little hard but they had some flavor. The beans were good as they had a hint of salt in them which added a little flavor. We received a warm welcome from the manager. Very nice man who checked on us at the end of our meal. Our server, Jamie, did a great job as well for us. Started with delicious table side guacamole. Arguably the best in the city and certainly the best deal for a huge amount at $12.95. I highly recommend it. A bit of a letdown on this visit to Mena's. The restaurant was very loud as usual but when the server speaks in a whisper and you have to ask him to repeat himself over and over, it gets annoying. The food portion seemed smaller this time around. I did find small chunks of potato in the beef enchilada which was odd. A wonderful Tex-Mex restaurant within walking distance from my hotels. I was happy to be seated at the bar, as the bar seats are super comfortable (better than any barstools I've ever experienced!). The bartender was super attentive, and he even remembered what "regulars" would want without them having to ask. I got the queso and the coco martini (basically like a fresh pina colada in a great way). The queso arrived quickly, and I basically ate an entire bowl of chips. I was going to place my meal order quickly, but the bartender warned that the food would come out super quickly - good to know, and I paused my order. What I did order was the enchilada plate with two cheese enchiladas topped with chili con carne - it was a winner!!!! The chili was great, and the enchiladas were really well prepared. FOOD Carne a la Tampiquena was alright. It was pretty salty overall and falls a lot more on the heavier side. The beef was tender and flavor was ok. Salsa is also a bit salty but also is good consistency and flavor. The chips are fresh and crispy! VIBES The place has nice vibes with dim lighting. I've come here several times and have always enjoyed my visits. Their service is good, their prices are very reasonable, and have a good happy hour and drinks. Every dish I've ordered so far, including the carne asada, have always been very savory and seasoned just right. For a tex mex joint, I do think they have their own unique flavors and presentations of classic dishes, compared to other tex mex places. It is definitely a casual, family friend restaurant, and does get busy during the lunch rush on weekdays from people coming to have lunch during work. Had dinner on a Friday night. We didn't have to wait long for a table since we had just beaten the crowd. We were served some warm chips and salsa to start with. The chips were just okay but the salsa was excellent. My wife ordered the carne asada plate and I ordered the camarones rancheros. The carne asada was definitely one of the best we've had in a long time. The beef was perfectly grilled and the seasoning was excellent. The shrimp in the rancheros sauce was large and nicely cooked but I've had better rancheros sauce. Both plates came with various sides, all of which were very good. The service was adequate. The waiter was all about getting your order and moving on, which was just as well since the noise in the restaurant was incredibly loud. My wife and I had to practically shout to each other throughout dinner. The live music was nice but added to the already loud noise. We liked the food so we may try a different location, in hopes of quieter dining. Parking was somewhat tough, especially near the restaurant. We were in the Richardson area for a kid's birthday party and decided to check out Mena's after the party. The chips and salsa were a great starter. Chips were not greasy and the salsa was homemade and has nice chunks of onions and tomatoes. I would not say it was super spicy but there was a little kick. We started with the "Great Dip" which is basically queso with some ground beef in it. A cup was $6.50 and it was good although it would have been better with some peppers or some kind of spices. I had the "Juan", which was a cheese taco, cheese enchilada, a crispy beef taco, and a guacamole tostado. The wife had the tostado as she loves those with guac. I enjoyed everything else and have no complaints. Good flavor. The wife had fajita enchiladas and this is where the restaurant fell short. The fajita beef was tough and had no flavor, so it had not been marinated. The wife said the beef was "unchewable." I tried a piece and I would say it was tough. She only ate one of the enchiladas. The margaritas were good, I had a rocks and a frozen and the frozen was better. The wife's Mexican martini was super strong, too strong for her. Our serve Jaime was efficient and professional. Overall, not a bad Mexican restaurant. Not quite as good as the Gold Standard of Mariano's, but it was good except for the fajita beef. read more

I went here to eat with my co workers during lunch. I ordered the brisket tacos for $13 dollars. The service was okay. They forgot to refill our chips and salsa and water as well. The food does come out fast despite it being crowded at the restaurant. Since we were a big party they gave us a bill separately and they did not add on a tip which was nice as some restaurants add in a 18% gratuity if parties are larger than 6. So I gave them 20% tip. Food was pretty good, but brisket as a little dry for me. read more
