I'll make this brief. I don't even know if they're still around because I'm just back to visit but I could not believe some of these other reviews that are just hogwash! In 2018 I had my '98 Nissan Maxima towed and dropped off because there was some electrical problem and it wouldn't start. Ted fixed it, charged me $250, and it started up in the parking lot of Fernley Tire but then died again before we left! He kept it for 3 days after that and never found the reason it wouldn't start but promptly gave me back the $250. He said he had spent hours on it but it had become a "personal issue" and was not going to charge me any more than the original $250. All of this mumbo-jumbo about Ted being dishonest is not true. I can't give anything lower than 1-star or I would. Let me just say, we had a flat tire and this establishment refused to put a new tire on a rim. Didn't answer the phone when we tried to call either. When we arrived, there were four guys standing around doing nothing. Especially not answering the phone. Caused a 4-hour delay in our trip. We're not local so finding another place to do this took a great deal of time and driving around. Not easy to do when one is in a 43-foot RV. Don't waste your time - these guys won't help. read more

This was the drop off location for our UHaul when we moved to Fernley. We turned it in full of gas, I damaged, and 22 hours early. I called the next morning and confirmed that it was turned in the night before and there were no issues. I was therefore very surprised to get a late fee charged 2 weeks later. I called UHaul and they reversed the charge. I was prepared to contest with my bank if they hadn't. I could never recommend this business after that experience. They also almost never answer their phone. read more

These are genuine locals that actually care. If they notice anything that is outside of the initial quote, they call you to confirm before starting the work. They involve their customers, by showing me the exact damage on what was being replaced it earns a level of trust and assurance. Great price, great work, wonderful people. Have not had a bad experience here with the owner Ted! He is a great mechanic and knows what he is doing! I left my 2005 Ford Explorer (4x4) there with him and he did amazing ! Not to mention I took my mother to him cause pep boys messed up her oil cap , they siliconed her oil cap shut , and Ted fixed it for free! But we gave him some sort of payment still though ! The owner TED scammed me. He stole about $450. He said he didn't know what was wrong but even a basic car guy could have figured out it was my U-joint which is a super easy fix. He made me sign something and told me I had to pay. I was young and scared and he knew that. Ted is a predator and if he feels like he can get away with it he will steal from you. I then drove back to Tahoe with a broken U-joint which is unsafe. He knew what he did. He is a scammer and predator. To top it all off he also made threats to me here on yelp in my messages. I don't know who those people are that gave poor reviews but it's absolute BS. I've been coming to Teds place for 3 years now, I have a 96 Toyota Tacoma and I'm a female with no knowledge of vehicles. Today I took my truck in because it was lagging very slightly when I accelerated. I had no clue what was wrong. I dropped the truck off and asked Ted to do a diagnostic on it and change the oil and fix whatever was wrong with it if he could find it. I got a call about 4 hours (I told him to take his time, as I was working from home and not in a rush) later saying nothing showed up on the diagnostic but he told me what he thought it was and that he could clean it up for now and see how that worked for me or spend $200 on a new one and install that. The total with an oil change (I get synthetic so it's a bit more) and air filter cleaning came to $450, I had asked him to purchase the new one and install it. He also dropped me off and picked me up since I didn't have a ride. This man could have done anything, said it was anything and yet he didn't, he gave me two options, one which wouldn't have cost me anything but a few dollars for cleaning. And he does this constantly with me. Last time I told him I thought there was a problem with my clutch, turned out to be a tune-up only. He's the most honest business owner/mechanic I have ever met, and he knows his stuff. My truck driving home was running better than it has in months. DON'T GO HERE!!!! The Mechanic is unqualified!!! I brought my vehicle in to be troubleshoot and was given a list of parts to replace and told that if those parts did resolve the issue that the problem was definitely in my computer. Well $400+ later I still have the same issue. I called the shop to resolve the problem, but the mechanic instantly got defensive and hung up on me when i didn't even raise my voice. After wasting my time as well as $400 in parts I would strongly recommend going somewhere the employees at least act like adults. They will be hearing from my lawyer. read more

In 2011 went there with rear end issues on my one sons car. They did a test run on it, then put it up on the lift for a better inspection (no charge). After diagnosing the problem, they then quoted me a price. They did the job in the time quoted and in the price quoted. They even took me home when I dropped off the car as I didn't have a ride. Car is still running great! In 2012 my other son was having issues with his fuel gauge. They had us bring in the repair book we were using and showed us what wires to look for and how to test those wires on the tank.........no charge! If you just need them to listen to your vehicle and give you an idea on what is going wrong, no charge. If they need to put tools or gauges on it to get more in depth on a tricky problem, then they charge. I will go to them anytime we have an issue we cannot figure out on our own as they are very friendly and aren't nasty to DIY "shade tree" mechanics like some I've run into over the years. read more

Ted was amazingly helpful, honest and kind when my motorhome broke down while my friend was on her way to burning man. While he did not have an RV lift, he was able to check the transmission with the RV jacked up and test drove it to be sure it wasn't leaking anymore. He even offered to drive it to a shop in Reno that had an RV lift in order to save me the cost of a tow! Wonderful customer service and very reasonable prices! read more

I took my 2005 F-150 to Ted at Fernley tire and brake, they told me it need a new engine, was told he had a great source for long block engines. cost me almost $10,000, engine and labor. the new engine went out in less then 5000 miles, took it back to them, he would not stand behind his work, told me he washes his hands of the truck, it's my problem, Took it to another shop (Ford) they took it apart and said the rebuild was a bad job, blocked oil passages to cams.Went back and told Ted at fernley tire and brake what was found, told me again it was my problem. the next rebuild cost me $8,000. this is not the way to do business in my book, read more

Went there yesterday for a oil sending unit change and not only did that get fixed along with an oil change they also did a complete check of my 05 Tahoe.
