I got the same dish just a little different from previous years of Chicken Cacciatore. Anniversary dinner for family (15) on Saturday; we had a 4:30 reservation. Servers were kind to promptly place a portable ramp at entrance for wheelchair access. It was done quickly and in a welcoming spirit. Thank you. On this visit, the food was not as good all around as we have come to expect. Their excellent quality Italian Bread was served immediately. We have always enjoyed the Calamari app, but the calamari on this visit was over fried, and the Marinara sauce had unappealing large chunks of tomato. Angel Hair on one Veal Parm serving was overcooked and mushy. However, the large size veal cutlet was prepared perfectly: tender and could be cut with a fork. The chicken piece in the Francaise entree was smaller than we were served in the past. The Seafood Platter was my choice as usual. The scallops and shrimp were large, and the few clams were tiny. My grandson liked the haddock Francaise, but his linguine was served about 30 minutes after the fish. A daughter asked for Chicken and Broccoli over linguine in a garlic oil sauce, and she was pleased. Ferrari's has been our go to place for Italian food and family dining, but now we are open to suggestions. read more

Friendly service. Amazing food. Classic Italian setting. You may drive through the neighborhood and think you're going the wrong way, but suddenly after passing lots of houses, you come up to the building and see the unassuming restaurant on the corner. Definitely give it a try. We had the Chicken Parm and the Lasagna. Both were excellent. It's not the most incredible Italian meal I've ever had in my life, but is my favorite in town. Went here on the recommendation of a friend. Not on the main throat of Schenectady but worth the trip! The ambiance is reminiscent of a set from the Sopranos.' We ordered the Italian home fries and the Shrimp Scampi appetizers . Dishes are described as 'generous.' This is an understatement. The home fries could easily have been a dish for two. It was a spicy dish but the sauce was incredibly delicious, as was the Scampi sauce. The shrimp were done to perfection. My husband enjoyed his Veal Marsala and I, the Eggplant Parmigiana- each served with a more than generous side of pasta with red sauce which was on the sweet side , similar to my homemade sauce.After dinner coffee was robust and delicious.Set it very was attentive and friendly. We order to go dinners each year for Xmas Eve. I get the Chicken Francaise which is always consistently huge and very tender! Got ziti with meatballs and extra marinara, enough for 3 meals! My boyfriend usually gets the Bracciole, which his Mom made every Xmas, but he wanted Lasagna with sausages and extra marinara. I ordered 2 salads, we got just one which was large enough to share. 1/2 loaf of Italian bread as well, very good and fresh. We live looking forward to our meals from here!! read more

We decided to try Ferrari's based on recommendations from several friends who love the food here. The reviews that I read convinced me that the drive over would be well worth it. I entered the establishment with reservations, and I was shown to my table immediately. The dining room was busy and I liked that the tables had table cloths and napkins in place. I was surrounded by dark wood decor and furniture which suggested that this place has been here quite awhile. The staff were attentive and friendly. We were given a nice sized basket of assorted fresh bread with butter as we looked over the menu. It certainly wasn't easy, deciding what to have as there were so so many tasty options. We started with a very generous portion of fried calamari which was cooked to perfection served with marinara sauce along with a hot antipasto. For mains we had veal pepe, veal scallopini, veal parm, eggplant parm and haddock puttanesca. All came with a lovely house salad with mixed greens roasted peppers, olives and cheese with a vinaigrette served family style. The orders came with a side of pasta of your choice. Portions here are large so you'll definitely be able to take some to go. And who wouldn't love to have such good eats for lunch the next day? We finished off our meal with house made desserts, pistachio cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake, tiramisu my personal favorite and a serving of tortoni an almond flavored ice cream yum! Step back in time and visit a real Italian restaurant out of the way but worth finding. The ambience is classic the service impeccable and the food outstanding. We started with drinks and the antipasto. It was a huge plate with peppers cheese artichoke and prosciutto. Dinner was veal as good luck finding veal on the menu in California. Don't bother with the cold antipasto. It was provolone and mozzarella, a couple of thick slices of salami, some other meat and some sliced meat that was too thick to chew. The veggies were roasted red peppers (seemed to be from a can), pepperoncini peppers, and sliced olives. The entrees were enormous!! I had Eggplant Parm, very good. Husband's lasagna was just okay - (I do make mine very cheesy). Looking around at everyone elses plates, the pasta dishes were also piled high!! And the children's plates, too! Then for dessert we had lemon cake. The icing had too much lemon peel giving it a bitter aftertaste. But the cake itself was yummy. In love with this upstate institution for 3+ decades. It's one on of the best upstate. The server Anthony is super welcoming and makes you feel right at home. All the dishes pack plenty of flavor and value. It is like going back in time, when small neighborhoods had thier own italian family restaurants. Exterior and interior of the restaurant is dated, but in a good way. Feels homey. The food! Our recent visit was delightful. For being a bad weather warning night, Ferrari's was quite full. I'm updating my review since I had the seafood platter with the red sauce. I, however, inquired if it could be "fra diavoloed." IMO, this is going to be my new "go to" dish. Shrimp, scallops, clams (yes, in the shell) and squid. Oh my goodness! Spicy, tomatoey, delicious. Each piece of seafood was devine, perfectly cooked. Dip some buttered bread in that sauce. The dish is served over linguini also cooked perfectly. Yes, this dish is a winner. Parking is ok but on the street. We go often enough that staff are acquainted with us. Older building that owners do keep up. Go to Ferrari's, food is solid. read more

We dined here tonight for the first time, the restaurant week menu enticed us to visit. From the very start we had excellent service. A reservation was definitely needed as it filled up quick. We loved the 3 course meals, the shrimp special stole the show of the whole meal. The veal and chicken parm were both thin, perfectly cooked entrees with pasta. We also appreciated the salads that came with our entrees that had a little extra something to them with the fresh toppings. Desserts were awesome, not too sweet, but a nice way to end the evening. Every step of the way it was perfect service from Anthony's knowledge of wine to help us choose, to the young gentlemen clearing our tables offering to wrap leftovers before we asked. Veal dishes melt in your mouth, full bar and a bar tender that can make classic well made cocktails with a generous pour. Salad was fresh and quite varied for a house salad. Mushrooms are canned on various dishes and they should kick it up to fresh sliced. Canolis that are as good as Termini in Philadelphia. Pasta perfectly andante. Over many meals only one I wasn't impressed with was Bracole. Cross town competition better. Classic well made sauces and graveys. read more

Vacationing in Schenectady, NY and chose Ferrari's to have dinner one night. The reviews were very good and that convinced us to give them a try. Plenty of street parking, when you walk in you are in the bar area, hostess desk by the entrance door to the restaurant. We made a reservation and were immediately taken to our table by a most friendly employee. There are multiple dining areas but we were seated in the main dining room. White table cloths and napkins, I appreciate that. Our waitress came right over and greeted us, very cheerful young woman. She got our beverages and we ordered an appetizer of Calamari with marinara sauce. What a huge portion and it was perfectly cooked and fresh, yum. We got our salads and they were fresh and the Italian dressing was delicious. Fresh bread and butter also served. Our dinner came in a timely fashion piping hot right from the kitchen. I ordered Chicken Franchise and a side of spaghetti with good sauce, the noodles were cooked el dente, perfect. My choice was just outstanding and the chicken was fork tender and the portion very generous. Hub got the Veal Merlanzo ( with eggplant) and the same spaghetti I had, he really enjoyed his entree. Our waitress took good care of us the whole time! We had food leftovers she carefully boxed up in microwaveable containers for us. We were to stuffed for dessert, they have a huge variety of sweets. What a "fall from grace, " going back to a place we adored when we were younger. The service was excellent the ambiance and food quality was atrocious. We dined on fried calamari under wet soggy onions(no exaggeration) on a bed of iceberg lettuce, along with a side of frozen broccoli & rest of our food unseasoned not crispy & sitting in a wet broth of butter and chicken stock. The side of penne pasta was ice cold(I think they thought throwing the watery tomato sauce over it would warm it up(it did not). We wish this place revival. read more

It's supposed to be the best Italian food in Schenectady. The food is average, and the sauce is bland. Seasoning is inexpensive and should be used. I gave it 3 stars because knowone else is close as for quality. I'm new in town and this is the best I can find. And that's not saying much. read more
