Family and friends celebrating at Grappa

55th Anniversary Celebration at Grappa 72 Met with a smile at the door by Sage. Welcoming our party of 15 to our "home" at Grappa. Shown to our table and met with hugs by our usual server, Sienna, and the man about the dining room, Ogre. For nearly 4 hours we laughed, told stories and celebrated in the atmosphere of home that is created by owner Armond and his staff. The food is second to none. But it is truly surpassed by the service and feeling of home that is Grappa. Sienna and Ogre met our every need. No they anticipated any need we might have had and delivered like the experts they truly are. Additionally, Malina, another fabulous server made sure to drop by our table to offer her congratulations like any family member would. Grappa is a true gem. It is not going out to eat. It is not dining. It is truly an experience that is difficult to explain! You have to be a part of it to really understand what this place is all about. Call now! Make a reservation for 2 or 22 ... you will be glad you did. There is a good chance we might be sitting right next to you! Dr John Metallo

Carrot cake, excellent desert choice.

I had an excellent dinner at Grappa 72. The veal chop and roasted potatoes were outstanding--perfectly cooked and full of flavor. I didn't order the rapi. Every member of our party thoroughly enjoyed their entrées as well. A quick note for future diners: the arancini appetizers come two per serving, so plan accordingly. Beyond the savory dishes, the house-made desserts are a highlight. I had the chocolate cake, which was light, moist, and deeply satisfying. I also sampled my wife's carrot cake--another fantastic choice. Service was top-notch. Special thanks to Victoria and Ogri for their attentive care and attention to detail. To cap off the evening, the owners generously offered complimentary cordials--a thoughtful touch that made us feel truly welcome. The atmosphere at Grappa 72 is warm and inviting, and the live band added a lively, enjoyable vibe to the evening. The price-to-portion ratio is excellent--excluding the appetizers, which are modestly sized. In fact, two of our guests couldn't finish their entrées. Reservations are a must. Although the restaurant is located in a shopping center, parking directly in front fills up quickly. If you like the review and/or the pictures, drop a comment, it goes a long way.

The food was very good. My husband and I had the clam, shrimp and sausage over pasta dish; one of their nightly specials. Other people in our group enjoyed the veal saltinbuca, duck and chicken Marsala. Everyone was pleased with their meal. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable. Nice selection of wines and the coffee was excellent, as well as the tiramisu dessert. Nice ambiance and we never felt rushed! Would highly recommend.

You would never know this place is adjacent to a supermarket parking lot. Has a very fancy, upscale feel. Went on a Saturday with a friend and were seated right away without a reservation. The ambiance is dark, cozy, romantic, expensive. I had the veal chop with roasted potatoes and rapini. $40 so not cheap but a sizable meal and soooo delicious and worth it. My friend got the pappardelle special with seafood and sausage in a lemon sauce and she ate most of it. Will 100% return because I want to try a lot of things from the menu.

Gnocchi Special for the Day

We were meeting some old friends while in town and they suggested Grappa '72. Overall, it was ok, but we left feeling a bit disappointed. Here's what we observed: - It was a Tuesday night and we didn't have a reservation, but we were seated quickly. The first thing I noticed was how loud the place was. In fact, I got concerned about our ability to hear/visit with each other effectively, which definitely panned out during the evening. - Despite it being a Tuesday evening, service was incredibly slow. First, it took forever for anyone to come over to our table once we were seated, and then the entire evening's experience was just slow, slow, slow...including the length of time it took for our food to arrive once we had ordered. Multiple times we had to flag down our server for something. - The menu was broad and there were some specials for the evening. We didn't look at the wine list since we were flying out early the next morning and just ordered glasses of house wine, which was fine. - My wife ordered the special pasta of the day, a gnocchi with red peppers, chicken and shrimp in a red sauce, and I ordered the Vongole (linguini with clams). The clams were cooked well, but the sauce was the saltiest sauce I've ever experienced in a restaurant...I asked my friend who is a good cook his opinion of the sauce and he couldn't believe how over salted it was either. My wife's dish was good, but it seemed to have too much sugar in is as it was incredibly sweet. - We passed on dessert as we had already been there 2 1/2 hours just ordering entrees (no appetizers either). - BTW, the place is located in a strip mall...not impressive at all. Bottom line: Grappa '72 is way overrated from my opinion...I'm not local but if I were I'd go searching for some other Italian place.

Zio Anthonys Pasta

We entered early for our reservation and they sat us immediately. As we sat our water was filled and crusty bread and olive tapenade was sent to the table which was a nice touch. I ordered the special homemade tagliatelle pasta with shrimp it was made to perfection, My husband ordered the Zio Anthony's pasta, which came piping hot and was very tasty. We chose not to fill up on salad or an appetizer but saw a few that we may try upon our return. I usually do not order dessert but knew I needed to try the homemade Tiramisu and it was made delicious. Next time we are in the area we will definitely come again and I will highly recommend to others!

Have t been here in almost 4 years...since my rehearsal dinner. Food/Drink: Very good. Really enjoyed my meal, and the food was cooked to a perfection. Dinning Area: Pretty large, open, area. Plenty of seating! Prices: Relatively Standard. 2 entrees, an appetizer, and a a few drinks for under $100. Parking: Plenty of space, mall lot. Bathrooms: Bathrooms were clean and regular size. Atmosphere: During the weekday late dinner, It was getting packed. Reservations a must. Staff/Attendants: Waitress was excellent! She was professional, kind, courteous, and prompt. I really enjoyed my time here. Great experience! 9/10

Monk fish puntanesaca

Great service, large selection. Burrata app was delicious, monk fish puntanessca was good but I wouldn't have called it puntanessca w/o capers and green olives. Wasn't too loud, easy to carry a conversation.

I ordered the duck, and having it prepared in different ways including as a sausage was honestly amazing. The eggplant appetizer was on another level, and the grilled octopus was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. I also had an espresso martini, which was made really well. To top it all off, the pistachio cake for dessert was the perfect finish. Overall, this place is truly top notch great food, great service, and a great experience all around. I was able to book a reservation online for the same day. Of note, when you have the option of Main Floor or First Floor & Bar, just realize the Main Floor is up a flight of stairs. I'm not sure if there is a separate entrance but my wife was on crutches and she managed to get up the first three into the restaurant from outside but I don't think dining on the main floor would have been an option for us. Our server, Mike, was awesome and full of energy and enthusiasm. He offered suggestions and answered questions about details of the dishes. We were pleasantly surprised with how many menu items were marked v - vegan and v* - can be prepared vegan. This is great for us because it's another place in Albany that we will be able to go out to dinner with friends and everyone will be able.to find something to enjoy. The fried Artichokes are a must if you're looking for a starter. We were eyeing up the Fennel salad or vegan Caesar salad but opted to move on to main entrees. On this night they were out of the Gnocchi Cacio-Pepe which personally, I am not a gnocchi fan to start and Mike told us they were substituting a buccatini pasta instead... this had my attention! I went for his suggestion and chose the Arrabbiata instead which was delicious. My wife enjoyed her Wild Mushroom and Asparagus Risotto. We skipped dessert for this evening but there were vegan Gelato and cookie options for dessert as well. From start to finish it was such an enjoyable experience in this cozy corner restaurant which offers outdoor dining in the summer in the heart of Albany. We will totally be back with friends for another delicious meal at Rosanna's, the hidden gem in downtown Albany!

The cuisine was Italian inspired, and heavy on vegan and gluten free option, which is a great find locally, if you're looking for that. We were sat upstairs and I enjoy the ambiance here. I will note that the chairs are uncomfortable, which does not make a cozy dining experience. The cocktail menu was really great, a lot of gin options which is right up my alley. I had the Corpse Reviver and a glass of wine, both were great. We started with the shrimp balls, which sounded intriguing. They ended up being delightful, almost like loose crab cakes. The flavors were great and I loved the pesto. For my entree, I opted for the lemon mushroom tagliatelle. The pasta was very fresh and chewy, loved that. I enjoyed the combination of lemon and mushroom on the dish, but there were so many different mushrooms of all different textures, that some bites were more enjoyable than others. The snapper puttanesca was gorgeous as well. Overall it was a good meal, but I might have liked it a little more before the change. Definitely a great option if you are looking for dietary restrictions.

We went to Delmonico's Italian Steakhouse last weekend with a party of 10. Our group meets up once a month and tries a new place each time. I had been here once before over the summer and had a great experience then. That time we were seated in one of the alcove style rooms. It is not fully private but it definitely feels like your own space, and it added a lot to the atmosphere. The food and service were excellent on that visit, and the birthday person in our group loved the theming of the room. This time we were supposed to be seated in the Sinatra room. After our reservation time passed, the hostess came over and explained they had made a mistake with the room booking and it was not available. They moved us to a large table in the main dining area and offered us four appetizers on the house to make up for it. That immediately smoothed things over, and no one in our group had any issues after that. Mistakes happen, it is how a place handles them that matters, and they handled this very well. The main dining area has a nice ambience, but it is a bit noisy compared to the alcove spaces. Food wise, we had a wide range, steaks, chicken, veal, and some gluten free options. Most of the group had alcoholic drinks, while a few of us stuck with soda and water. One friend said the cola he got at the bar while we waited was flat and he skipped it after that. I tried a soda at the table and mine was fine. He later had a lemon lime soda, not sure if it was 7Up or Starry, and had no complaints, so it is possible they changed out the CO2 in between. Service really stood out. It is not easy to manage a table of 10, but our waitress was outstanding and very friendly. We were served in a timely manner, and several people commented on both the portion sizes and the quality of the meals. A few in our group even said they felt the pricing was a bargain for what you get. Overall, we will definitely be back. Scheduling errors and things out of the staff's control happen anywhere, but many places either do not apologize or do nothing to fix it. Here, they did both, and their solution was more than generous. Kudos to them. 4 stars.

Then the food... 2 of us ordered filet mignon it came out burnt and over done it looked like a burnt hamburger very thin (not the way a medium and medium rare filet should be obviously) Who let that even leave the kitchen! The waitress noticed right away and sent them back - manager came over and said oh sorry it depends on who's in the kitchen - what? We were seated in the back of the main room which was cold (the A/C was cranking due to the heatwave outside), loud (from people, not music). The side room was lit more invitingly and I think I would want to be there. I heard Frank Sinatra on the radio when we walked in, but within 30 minutes the place was packed and it turned into a raucous environment. We started off with garden salads with their homemade tomato basil dressing. It sounded fantastic but I quickly discovered it was loaded... absolutely loaded... with red onions. My wife bravely ate hers and the pile of onions kept growing on the side of her plate. I couldn't eat mine because of them so they took it away. They offered to remake it sans onions but I decided to hold out for my entree. My wife thought it was overdressed, but for a chopped salad such as it was I think it was fine. My veal Marsala was excellent. Every restaurant does theirs differently and here it wasn't too sweet or too garlicky. The bread on the table was crustier than an old pirate which made it difficult to eat with the table oil dip provided. However, it was perfect for sopping up the veal's sauce. My wife had Chicken Sorrento and the portion was absolutely humungous with a slick cheese shield on the top. She felt bad that my portion of veal was much smaller in comparison, but I had the last laugh as I thought her dish was just average. It all came down to the red sauce: every place tastes different and here it tasted a bit more like stewed tomatoes. (FYI: no place makes it as good as my grandmother). I am glad I ordered a non-red sauce dish, though my side of penne with only light sauce (per my request) was decent. Their dessert menu was nice but uninspiring. That's okay, as we were mostly full. Prices were fair for a white table cloth Italian restaurant, though not inexpensive. That being said, I much prefer the place in Loudonville which has more interesting entrees and comparable prices.
