Found this through my blue shield insurance app. It's a part of the Qualsight program so I got a hefty deal. I researched LASIK extensively before getting it, and this place seemed like the best I could find. I gave them some of my eye doctor's notes just in case and they made copies for themselves. The day of the surgery the nurse walks you through what will happen and the surgeon reiterates what to do and watch out for. Throughout the procedure comments were made like "awesome" and "the hard part is over" which helped me to calm my nerves. The only tip I have is to be prepared for the numbing eye drops because the nurse kind of applies it on you all of a sudden but I get it because the timing is crucial for these things. i had been looking into getting lasik for years but i have always been so scared. i went for a consultation and dr. moosa said i was a perfect candidate, the day of surgery i had an anxiety attack i was so scared and him and the staff were so nice and understanding, my appointment was at 9am and i was there until 11am because he took as much time as i needed and answered every single question i had over and over. i ended up being too wound up to do it, so i came back the next day. there was no judgement from anyone and they talked me through it every step of my procedure, it was SO quick and easy i was so embarrassed that i acted the way i did the day before. I started to consider getting LASIK around March of 2023, after a routine eye checkup when my eye doctor told me that I'd be a very good candidate for LASIK since my eyesight was stabilized for at least 3 years. I didn't have any major eye conditions besides nearsightedness, so I started looking around, and found Dr. Moosa on Yelp. His office was in Brea, which isn't far from where I live/work, so I gave them a call to schedule and appointment. The person who answered the phone was very friendly and helpful, and within minutes I had scheduled a free consultation. On the day of the consultation, everyone in the office was extremely friendly and professional. The lady who helped me was amazing, she answered all my questions and did very thorough exams to make sure my eyes were suitable for the procedure. She explained everything in detail, and even had some nice diagrams to supplement her explanations. They were even willing to price match with another clinic that I had visited previously. After pricing was agreed on, they had the doctor come in and speak with me, since he was the one who was going to be performing the surgery. After the free consultation was over, I felt confident in scheduling my lasik procedure with them. They were very flexible with their scheduling too. After I scheduled the surgery, they informed me that I would need to have some medications ready and on-hand prior to doing the surgery so that I can begin taking them immediately following the surgery. They asked for my pharmacy information, and then sent the prescriptions over immediately after the consultation. They even kept in contact with me through text messages after the consultation to make sure I got my medications without any problems. My primary pharmacy didn't have one of the medications in stock, so I sent a text message letting them know and giving them another pharmacy, and they immediately sent it over. I got the medication the next day, and had everything ready to go. On surgery day, I was instructed to bring someone with me to drive me home, and was recommended to get some sleep after the surgery. When I arrived, they double-checked that I had someone to drive me home, and also double-checked that I had my medications ready. Prior to going into the surgery room, they put some numbing eye drops into my eyes, and then led me into the room. I laid down on a surgical table, and followed the doctor's instructions. He was very calm, reassuring, and kind. The procedure itself is very quick and painless. All I did was stare at some dots and lights for a few seconds, and feel some tingling. The most unpleasant part of the procedure is the smell. In about 5 minutes, I was out of the surgery room. They put some special eyeshields on me, and instructed me to wear it for the rest of the day, and every night while sleeping for the next two weeks. I was then ready to go home. My vision was a bit foggy, but I could immediately tell that my vision was clearer. My eyes were a bit itchy/dry for the rest of the day, but it improved gradually. I followed their recovery instructions, using the medications when required and refraining from any activities that would touch my eye. I used a pair of swimming goggles when showering to stop water from getting in. The most annoying part was sleeping with the funky eyeshields on for two weeks, but I managed to get through that. I went into their office the next day for the follow-up checkup, and they said everything's going well. I was having a bit of double-vision, and they said it would go away with time (it did). I had another follow-up visit maybe 1 month later, and they said my recovery is going excellent, and my vision is currently 20/15 (you could imagine how happy I was to hear that after having worn thick glasses for most of my life). They told me this checkup would be my last, and to enjoy my new life without glasses. They told me that if anything goes wrong, feel free to call them back (nothing ever happened). It's now been one year since I've done the surgery, and it's the best money I've ever spent on myself. Don't have to worry about buying new glasses, don't have to worry about buying prescription sunglasses, don't have to worry about wearing things on my head/face that wouldn't fit right because of my glasses. My eyes fully recovered after a few months, and aside from the occasional dry eye (which I didn't have before), everything is great. Keeping a bottle of eye-drops handy fixes the dry eye issue, so all in all, it was a pretty life-changing decision. I always recommend Dr. Moosa anytime one of my friends/family shows the slightest interest in getting laser eye surgery done. Thanks! read more

Pre-Surgery - For over 20 years I have occasionally visited laser eye clinics to get consultations and never once pulled the trigger, until I found Excel Laser Vision Institute. Call it a gut feeling but it definitely helped that nothing was pushed, the staff were friendly and very accommodating, and all the doctors just made me feel relaxed and cared for. My gut told me I found the right place. Made an appointment and waited for the day. Surgery Day - Same sentiments as before. The surgery was painless and Dr. Moosa spoke calmly to me the whole time and told me what to expect so no matter what happened I knew it was going according to plan. In fact, for some reason, it felt ticklish and I tried not to laugh. Kudos to all the staff for making me feel welcome and really going that extra step to make me feel calm. Post-Surgery - Life altering. You take your vision for granted until you do something like this and it is just amazing what clear natural vision is like. It's been four months since I had my lasik surgery and I am very glad that I finally did it! The freedom from wearing glasses and contact lenses is enormous. The next morning after surgery, I was able to actually see my alarm clock! That was a great sensation. I've been to two other lasik offices for a free evaluation. The first place said my corneas were too thin, and because of that any post-op corrections couldn't be made.The second (well-known) place told me my eyes were too dry, and to take eye drops two weeks prior to surgery. And their "special" advertised price didn't apply in my case. After years of hearing Dr. Moosa's radio commercials, I decided to try Excel Laser Vision. I first met Heidi, an energetic, super efficient person that explained the procedure and worked out a payment plan using my health care's spending allowance (tax free). She examined my eyes, then I met with a doctor. Good news! I was an ideal candidate for lasik! I scheduled for January 2015, after the health insurance kicks in for the year. I anxiously waited two months and started counting the days as it was a week away. I had my surgery on a Thursday, took Friday off to recover, and had the rest of the weekend to relax. There was another eye exam, then I was taken to the procedure room. I could see what was happening, e.g. creating the flap, and looking into the "light", hearing some clicks - then the next eye. I was then taken into an exam room, and was pleased and very happy, that I could see Dr. Moosa's face clearly. My eyes looked good he said. We shook hands many times, I was so happy. I put on some dark glasses, and went home to rest. I didn't have pain, or extreme halos, or dry eyes - the stories I heard about. I first went to Dr. Moosa 12 years ago for a consultation for Lasik. My prescription was -7.5 and I was tired of wearing contacts. I found him to be extremely educated, knowledgable and honest. However, I completely chickened out. There was zero pressure from him or his office for me to go through with the procedure. They wanted me to be comfortable with however much time I needed. Fast forward to this past April. I really wanted to be able to wake up and see. My eyes had also developed allergies to specific contact brands. Dr Moosa and his staff spend a good amount of time explaining the difference between the different procedures and also told me what equipment they use. They also told me what to expect in the days following the Lasik procedure I spoke to friends who had also gotten Lasik done (elsewhere) and they described a moment of extreme pressure on the eyeball. Because Dr. Moosa's office has the gold standards of all lasik equipment, I was told I would not feel anything. I made the decision right there and then to get it done and scheduled my appointment accordingly. I followed all of their instructions leading to the procedure and on the day of, I was still very nervous. Dr Moosa explained everything that was being done during the very, very short procedure and I did not feel a thing. Not one once of discomfort. I went to sleep soon after (as recommended) and could actually see clearly when I woke up. I had a few weeks of feeling like my eyes were dry, which I was told to expect and kept eye drops on hand at all times. I had a follow up appointment the next day, the following week and at the one month mark. About to head to my two-week check up, but wanted to share my experience. I wear contact lenses about 80% of the time and there were situations with my eyes throughout the 7 years I wear them that the contact lenses were infecting my eyes and I was told to retire contact lenses. I do have glasses when I don't feel like popping a contact into my eye, but as I move around a lot day to day, glasses weren't functional enough. Therefore, I decided to look into having my eyes lasered so I don't have to worry about the issues above plus my prescription was pretty bad (-4.75, yikes!). Came in for a consultation where I met the staff Heidi, Karen, Lorraine, Dr. Cohen, and the surgeon Dr. Moosa. I was given detailed information on the different procedures and what I was qualified for as well as pricing and healing time. After scheduling my surgery, I was advised on what to do during the days leading up to it. Surgery day came and I was quite nervous, but the staff made sure to keep me calm. I have gotten insight that you don't even feel any pain so I was not too worried. Oscar helped prep me before the surgery and went over my aftercare as well as answer any questions. Before I knew it, I was taken in for the surgery. I was glad I was dressed warm because it was pretty chilly. For my procedure, I chose to have the laser carved the flap for me and although I wasn't on xanax, I was fine with no pain at all. After the laser finished carving the flap, I was led to another bed with a different laser by Dr. Moosa. He was great in keeping me calm and motivating me to keep staring at the green light and both of my eyes were done within seconds! It was slightly blurry afterwards, but within two hours I was able to see! Getting this procedure was life-changing because I didn't think such a painless procedure that corrects your vision within seconds existed. I went in for a consult and came out with 20/15 vision. I don't regret my LASIK eye surgery one bit. The process was quick, easy and incredibly informative. Everyone was kind and answered all of my questions and provided me with even more information as a follow up. I waited 16 years to get this procedure. Back in 2005 I went to three doctors of which one was Dr. Moosa. Back then my corneas were considered too thin so I wasn't a good candidate. Well, I got tired this past year and decided to give PRK a shot even though it sounded like a lot of time to be off. Well, the folks ad Dr. Moosa's were able to provide an exam that deemed me a candidate of getting the LASIK procedure. After some more questions and options, I decided to go for it. I had been in glasses since I was 8 or 9. I now don't use glasses except occasionally using readers. It's been years since I've gotten my Lasik from Dr. Moosa (I got mine done in March 2006), and I wish I had written this review sooner so other people can find him! First of all, he is a very reputable doctor, having graduated from USC then went on to Harvard Medical School. His staff is incredibly competent, taking you through the consultation to the day of your Lasik with gentleness and patience. They aren't pushy and guide you through the entire process so you know exactly what to expect. I couldn't believe the day of my Lasik was as quick and painless as it was. I went in and was done with Lasik in BOTH eyes in less than 10 minutes! In fact, right after they finished they said I could open up my eyes. Yes, I had those funny plastic goggle things on, but I was still able to see!! Incredible. After the procedure, they gave me some sleeping pills to take - I don't think these were normal sleeping pills because I went home and proceeded to nap for 8 hours straight. You'll need someone to drop you off and pick you up the day of your Lasik Surgery. Obviously, handling a car so soon after is not a good idea. My eyes were dry for a month after the procedure, but that's normal. They'll give you eyedrops for that and there are also some really great ones at CVS. I have no regrets about getting Lasik done through Dr. Moosa. I referred 2 other friends to him and they have been just as satisfied after their own experiences. If I were to do this all over again I would still choose Dr. Moosa. Lasik is incredible! I love that I don't have to worry about contacts or glasses or solution ever again. read more

Just had my lasik done last week!!!! I had gone to a few different consultations, but the staff here made me feel the most comfortable. They explained everything so clear and were extremely nice!!! This office gave me the most thorough eye exam out of all the other offices (which is kind of important don't you think lol) to make sure my eyes were the perfect candidate and to get the best prescription for my eyes (which they actually changed in one of my eyes). They worked with me on pricing, which was a big factor with me. Of course you get what you pay for, esp with my vision I didn't want to go cheap. But very reasonable at 3,500 (different for everyone! And they had a promotion going on. Not everyone's eyes are the same). My boyfriend was able to be with me the whole time (except during actual surgery he watched through a viewing room) and was able to tape the whole thing. The whole surgery was 5 MINUTES LONG!!!!!!!! For both eyes I couldn't believe it!!!!! I got up and said that was it?!? I couldn't feel a thing, no discomfort nothing. Easiest thing iv ever done. After two days my eyes didn't feel any real dryness or irritation. I went to a concert at the hollywood bowl even. Best thing iv ever done for myself. I'm 27 years old and can enjoy this for many years. CURRENTLY SEEING IN 20/15!!!!!!!!!!!!! Colors are brighter (AHHH!!!) and the mountains are so beautiful!!!!! It's been 1 year since my surgery and it is still the best decision I have ever made! At my 6 month check up the news was great! Better than 20/20 vision! Amazing! After almost 20 years of wearing glasses/contacts I would have never believed it! I was referred here by my brother who had his LASIK done back in 2005 w/ Dr. Moosa & is still doing great! The staff here is beyond friendly and they were even able to set me up with some great financing which made the cost completely manageable! As for the procedure...I believe I called in on a Wednesday or Thursday and got an appointment for that Friday for an exam. After they gave me the thumbs up they were able to take me in right then & there!!!! The procedure was actually a piece of cake. When they say you don't feel anything they mean it. I got myself all worked up & nervous for absolutely nothing!! The entire exam was about 3-4 hours and the procedure was a whopping 10 minutes max!! Now, I will forewarn you...even though the procedure itself was virtually painless, about an hour after (when the numbing wore off I assume) your eyes feel like they've been badly scratched. Super super sensitive to light and completely uncomfortable. My husband called the doc that Friday night at around 7p to make sure that was normal and an answering service picked up, but they took our info and Dr Moosa called us right back within 5 minutes! (even on a friday night!!) He assured my husband that it was normal, just take take some Tylenol & rest. I did, and when I woke it was all good! No discomfort, no pain, and I could see perfect!!!!! Today is my LASIK anniversary!! I had LASIK surgery by Dr. Moosa exactly one year ago today, and let me tell you it was the best decision ever!!. Prior to my visit to his office, I completed three different evaluations with other surgeons. It wasn't that I wasn't happy with the previous two, I just wasn't convinced or felt entirely comfortable.I scheduled my surgery after my first consult with Eric R., OD as I felt extremely happy and comfortable with the services and the information I was given by the staff and optometrist. The surgery was fast and easy, I met Dr. Moosa prior to the procedure and he answered all my questions. I was nervous during the procedure, but Dr. Moosa was great and asked how I was doing frequently. I was given clear instructions about the aftercare, which was great. I went home and slept the rest of the day.The follow-up visits were fast and easy to schedule. Again, undergoing LASIK was a great decision. It feels amazing to wake up every morning and be able to see clearly without having to reach for glasses or contact lenses. The best part of this has been driving at night without worrying about the uncomfortable light flares. I could not say enough kind things about this office! First - Oscar and Crystal cheerfully answered all of my husband and my questions, prior to us even leaving the waiting room...on a Saturday morning - it was impressive. We went in for his consultation and he was able to get his surgery the same day - we went in at 10a for the consult and left, eyes peeled, at 11:40a! The doctor was phenomenal - such an intelligent but calming presence (just what you'd want from a doctor)! Everything went so fast but they do not miss a detail, and make sure you don't either! The directions that they send you home with are PERFECT! Not too much info, that you have to weed through to find what you're looking for (which can be very frustrating but especially in an emergency) and not too little; there wasn't one question that we had that wasn't addressed on that sheet of paper. They scheduled him, in Recovery, for the next day *highly convenient because we were able to walk right out, bypassing the front desk tediousness. And the next day, in his post op appointment, the doctor himself did the same thing - scheduling my husbands 2 week check up right there in the exam room! It was so kind and simple!
