I usually shop at Aldi after going to the gym in Fitchburg as it's very close to everything. The service is very quick and im in and out very quickly. Overall, solid spot.

I really like the recent changes upgrading and expanding the interior [I shop at Fitchburg site near Target] and adding new products. Since COVID I have been ordering my grocs delivery. I like it pretty well but it really irks me when my go-to items [like cottage cheese or my mandarin oranges] aren't available. It has been about 2 mos since I've gotten cottage cheese @ Aldi's. As a "vulnerable shopper" who at the moment is unable to drive I really need to get all my products in one place. Aldi's falls way too short on that. E.g. I hate their options for pet foods [so does my kitty]. So sometimes I have to shop at another store, which means I have to pick up at least $35 of products from the other store to get free delivery when all I want of what they offer is $15-$20 worth. And the fill-in products to make up that $35 are ALWAYS substantially more expensive than Aldi's. After shopping almost exclusively at Aldi's for the past 2-3 years I must say after reading the very negative reviews included here...did they go to the same store I do? Cuz I'm so happy with it I have made it my #1 go-to store. I save between $20-$50 a week with Aldi's prices. And that's over Woodman's (Madison) prices [the $20 is over Woodman's; $50 is over HyVee]. When I was able to drive I'd always go to Aldi's 1st & then pick up the rest of what I needed at surrounding stores. All in all I save between $100-$150/month over Woodman's. And I simply can't stand those gigantic stores any more. So much stuff, so little I would buy. And having all that extra stuff means the giant stores have to charge more than Aldi's because of their overhead. In all the time I've shopped at Aldi's I've never had a problem with service. Indeed many clerks have gone out of their way on my behalf, especially but not only when I show up with my walker. Whereas in the giant stores I get big sighs implying, like...really??

Surprisingly, they carry a wide selection of international products. I was delighted to find these viral ice creams at the West Side location (there's also one on the East Side of Madison). These ice creams became popular about 1.5-2 years ago. I first tried lemon in LA late 2024 and then mango in Houston earlier this year, but this is the first time I've seen them in an American grocery store. While they're also available at Global Market (an Asian grocery store on the East Side), Woodman's price is unbeatable--just $9 for a box of three, compared to around $12 plus tax in LA. The outer shell is a crunchy white chocolate coating, while the inside is fruity ice cream flavors like mango, peach, lemon, and apricot (no actual fruits). They also offer unique flavors such as durian, grape, and tangerine. It's great to see Woodman's carrying these, hopefully more people will get to try them!

The local cheese selection did not disappoint. We also learned you must pay for your groceries to go into the liquor store and vice versa. If we had more time we works have walked around more but we got what we needed.

What really shines here? Their food stall. I had the spam musubi and immediately went back inside to get 2 more lol. The person working the window even gifted me shrimp toast, which was very sweet. (The shrimp toast is fire). This is more of a pick up and go kind of spot, although they have stools and a counter if want to eat there. Think cafeteria vibes but not in a derogatory way. They sell out often. I know bc I came here yesterday around 2pm, SO excited for spam musubi, only to learn that they sold out of everything at 1pm LOL. Today? I made sure to get there around 1130am. Was able to get garlic butter shrimp (7 BIG shrimp, so flavorful) served with pasta salad (delicious, I usually do not love pasta salad), and rice. I also got a shrimp lumpia (delicious) and a spam musubi for later. Food was phenomenal as usual. The food scene in Madison is not as robust as other places I've lived, but this place? A gem. Def give them a try. Just don't go too late like I did yesterday.

If you're looking for something on the shelves the Hyvee brand is displayed front and center but many times the name brands are cheaper and of better quality. I like store brands but not at Hyvee. I've had to return many items that have expired even before I get it home. Chicken from the meat case had gone bad, green beans the next day were slimey, and green potatoes that can cause severe stomach distress and can be toxic. I don't know if the baggers go through any kind of training but it's always a mixed bag, pun indented getting your groceries packed . If you're not paying attention they will pack your meat in with produce and other foods that you have to wash even before you can put it away. This particular trip the girl didn't ask if she should put the meat in plastic. I didn't notice until I got home and had to wash the yogurt and the cantaloupe I purchased. I've noticed that all the baggers shake the bags to see if they can put any more items in the bag. It's a strange practice considering if you spend over a hundred dollars you're probably entitled to an extra bag or two. You have also have a better than 50-50 chance your bag will break even if you pick it up by the bottom. Last trip 2 out of the 4 bags broke which is typical. I've mentioned it to the owner but seems to not be a priority. You would think if it was your job to pack grocers you would do so so that the customer can avoid mishaps after they leave the store. If Hyvee is trying to compete with other stores it is hands down on the bottom list of places to shop even compared to Kwik Trip.
