Stopped in for a late lunch today. As soon as we entered, we were warmly greeted, and then seated at a high top table in the bar area. SRP is spacious and inviting. Our server was terrific; she was the bartender as well as the server for all tables on that side of the restaurant. I had a half garden salad and the lettuce was crisp, and the tomatoes, cucumbers and bell peppers all had great flavor. For pizza, we did the chicken alfredo pizza and italian creek meat lovers pizza, both with hand tossed crusts. The meat lovers pizza was phenomenal!! We went to this location for the first time when friends were in town and the food was just as good as the Sun Prairie spot, which is where we usually go, so major points for consistency. I ordered the calzone and I'm sad to report, this was not really a calzone, as the dough was only on one side and the other was a pile of cheese that was mega greasy. I won't order that again, but the pizza and appetizers for the table were great as always. Our server didn't smile or seem to enjoy their job, but maybe it was an off day. While visiting a friend in nearby Madison, we wanted pizza for an evening in and he recommended Sugar River, and it turned out to be a solid rec! Sugar River is located adjacent to the Costco in Verona and is a good sized spot with standard dining and a bar area with seating. We did an online order and in store pick-up, but the space was nicely laid out and clean from what we could see. Upon entry you are greeted by the pickup/order counter and host(ess) stand. Things can get a bit packed here, as this where folks are waiting to be sat, just walking in, exiting, picking up and ordering. We ordered online and pickup was about 20 minutes from order to collection. We got a 14" pepperoni and mushroom pan tossed pizza and a small cheese bread. Both were tasty, nothing wildly wrong or to the opposite, nothing mind blowing. Both were a bit too bready in places, but it wasn't all the sticks or slices, so I enjoyed some more than others. The pizza and cheese bread ran me around $24, which wasn't bad for the size and quality. Sugar River is a go to for local buddy, and after enjoying it, I can see why he keeps it on his list. Great place to come by for a hot dinner on a snowy winter night. Wild State Cider Strawberry Punch: Very bubbly had more of a cider flavor than strawberry. I couldn't taste much of the fruity scents. Specialty Pizza - Amazon Deluxe: Basically a combo pizza. Crust was fluffy and lightly buttered. Pizza is more fluffy than thin. Shrimp Ravioli with Red Pepper Cream: There's more the pasta than shrimp, bit underwhelming on seafood stuffing. To me, the red pepper cream wasn't spicy but flavorful. Fair prices, well cooked pizzas, and intriguing specialties. I find it interesting that they replace tomato sauce with whatever the base of the specialty calls for. For example, we got the Rio Grande bbq chicken, and typically I'd see the bbq sauce drizzled on top, but here it's fully incorporated within. My friend said it made the pizza too sauce-y, and I would agree (though I like bbq sauce so I didn't mind as much). They have several crusts to choose from, from variations of cracker thin to deep dish. I got the 10" Amazon on the thinnest option they had. Fantastic. Also, what a great beer selection. I also like that they do 4oz pours. Ended up tasting a few that way and one pint. Staff was very nice. I've been to Sugar River Pizza in New Glarus, WI and had a totally enjoyable experience. While visiting family in Wisconsin we had the opportunity to stop in at this Verona, WI. location. It in located in a nice plaza and ample parking. We had a group of 6 and the place was busy but there were open tables; so we had our choice of watching football or no tvs directly by us. We choose the later! We were greeted nicely and directed to our booth. A waiter Ethan soon addressed us and took our drink orders along with waters. We got a few appetizers of breadsticks, fried cheese curds, fried pickles, waffle fries and onion rings. Ethan was very engaged in taking good of us. Our drink arrived and shortly after the appetizers I only sampled the waffle fries and onion rings; both very good. Others sampled the rest of appetizers; all was very good and tasty. I especially liked the onion rings, nicely lightly breaded and crispy but juicy and the waffle fries were crisp and seasoned just right. Our piazzas were a kid's 6" with 1 topping carrots; a Missy Figgy small; an Amazon Deluxe and a Elote pizza. The pizza didn't take too long to arrive; every pizza seemed to be done just right and each had their distinct flavors. Yes; we ordered too much but what could be boxed was taken home for future meals. ( yum pizza for breakfast ). Ethan did a great job in taking excellent service; attending to our needs and checking on us occasionally to make sure all was good. This being my second time at a Sugar River Puzza Co. I was not disappointed. My favorite was the Amazon; the Elote too much corn and the Missy Figgy I didn't try; not a big fan of fruit on pizza unless an all fruit pizza, fresh and chilled. This is definitely one of my favorite pizza joints in the Madison area, and this location always gives a consistent flavor and style of pizza. The crust is always crispy and the ingredients always fresh. I've only ever done dine-in once, but it was a pleasant experience and their outdoor patio is great in nice weather! Ordering to-go is pretty simple and their online ordering website is pretty easy to navigate. I like to load the toppings on my thin crust pizza, and the crust still comes out crunchy and not overly soggy. The rest of their menu also looks very good, I've just never been able to pull myself away from the delicious pizza. After a long day, we decided to stop here for dinner. The wait was about 45 minutes but somewhat understandable on a Friday night. They have a decent sized menu with a lot of options and a great tap list. Our server was friendly and stopped by a few times at the start but the visits fell off as the night progressed. We ordered the amazon pizza - pepperoni, sausage, pepper, onion and mushroom. We got the traditional hand tossed crust and it had a tough time holding up the toppings but it did its best! The sauce had a great flavor and the crust was perfect. Next time, we will probably just do 1-2 toppings but it was good. Cheese bread was great. Great enough to eat by itself for lunch or with a salad. Not sure how it is made but seemed like bread made in the restaurant, although I cannot say that for sure. We ordered the thin crust, and it as very thin.and reasonably crispy. Unfortunately the toppings like to slide off and made a knife and fork required. As it was crispy, you could not fold it like a NY slice and eat it that way - however, no points off - it is not sold as a NY style pie. I probably would of appreciated it sliced into squares rather than pie shaped. That way the pieces probably would of been small enough to eat by hand. The pizza was good, just not five stars good. Definitely good and definitely worth going back to for the food, and especially for the beer selection if I am drinking again. There are some one star reviews. Ignore them. This is an adorable little local pizza spot. They have tons of yummy creations on the menu or you can make your own. We chose to sit at the bar because they have TVs and you could watch the game while eating and drinking. The food is delicious and the staff are all incredibly happy to be there. This is my 2nd review for SRP. My first was over 6 years ago after they had recently opened. At that time, I stopped in for a hard to find IPA and they had such a great selection of beer. I noted at that time that I would have to try their pizza next time. Well, 6 years later and they still have an amazing selection of great beers. And I can now say after probably 50 pizzas, that their pizza is amazing! And their sandwiches, and their pasta. There really isn't anything bad on the menu. SRP has now been for many years our go to place for our family. The kids meals are so affordable, at $4/$5 each and the kids meals are awesome. REAL Mac and cheese. A grilled cheese made from the adult sliced fresh bread! And big servings for the kids. They rarely don't have extra Mac the next day. The prices are amazing for the level of service and quality of food. A side salad for $2.50? Is this 2005? Oh, did I mention the side salad is NOT iceberg! It's Spring mix with tomatoes, cucumbers, and cheese! And don't forget their homemade ranch dressing. Today I had something new, the chicken parmigiana. I would say it's not the typical red sauce and chicken on spaghetti, it's a bit different. It's fettuccini Alfredo, with a breaded chicken breast topped with marinara, and cheese. It was super tasty and I would definitely order it again. I can go on and on about Sugar River Pizza as others have as well. It's nearly 5 stars on Yelp for a reason. They source and support our local farmers and we're happy to support this locally owned restaurant as well. This place is great!!! There was a busy crowd when I arrived with my friends but we still got seated quickly since I was with a smaller party. I ordered the Amazon pizza to share with a friend, we switched out the pepperonis and got tomatoes instead, and we shared fried cheese curds with marinara with the whole table. The food was great-- this is some good pizza!!! The cheese curds with their amazing marinara was a fun treat while waiting for the pizzas too. My other friend got the asian chicken pizza and he enjoyed it as well. We did have to wait quite a while but it was packed so it wasn't bad since we had apps to snack on. The service is incredible here!! I spoke to multiple staff there including our server, all of them were polite, courteous, and the server we had specifically was attentive and helpful with refilling our drinks and checking up on us as we ate. I have been wanting to try Sugar River Pizza for years now, and I'm so glad I finally did! We went to the Verona location for Sunday night supper to celebrate my mom's birthday. They take reservations so try to make one in advance to avoid a wait. We did not have reservations and waited about 30 minutes during the supper rush, but this gave us extra time to read their large menu. To our pleasant surprise, Sugar River Pizza has way more than just pizza. Because it was our first time trying them, we decided to stick with appetizers and pizza, but we can't wait to go back to try the pasta, salads, and sandwiches too! For apps we got the fried pickles and the beer cheese dippers. Both were delicious, but the beer cheese dip stood out for how good it was. We all said we could have eaten it by the spoon! For pizza we ordered the Kickapoo beef taco pizza and the Mediterranean pizza, both with their signature hand-tossed crust. The crust was good, but next time we want to try their thin crust. Altogether, they have cracker thin, regular thin, hand-tossed, and thick. The best part about the taco pizza was that the lettuce, chips, salsa, and sour cream all came on the side (see pictures). This is ideal for leftovers and keeping it fresh! Between the delicious food and the awesome service, we had a great first experience at Sugar River Pizza and cannot wait to go back this summer and sit on the patio! read more
