Dessert, clearly labelled sauces, miso soup, cutlery and napkin

I ordered this on DoorDash so unfortunately, I would not be able to comment on the ambiance. I was looking for a new restaurant to try. For service - it took them a long to time to prepare. Although, I can't be certain of there were a lot of customers or orders at the time I ordered. I'm grateful it came witu cutleries. The DoorDash app doesn't have a clear place to order cutleries anymore, at least, not for a majority of the restaurants. Food - E3. Masterpiece Box - decent thickness to the salmon sashimi. The sashimi and sushi were fresh. Appreciative of less rice and it came with 2 small chicken katsu. Unfortunately, I found the chicken katsu to be dry but could be from the travel time. The sauces were labelled clearly and cling filmed wrapped to prevent spillage during transfer. I appreciated this thoughtfulness. I actually enjoyed the salad. It's different from other sushi places. It's creamy with a slight tanginess yet refreshing. The miso soup had a milder profile (not that salty) and I liked it. I found the mixed tempura to be on the oily side. It also came with a mini dessert so I was presently surprised. I think it's a mango pudding but the small chunks confused me. Overall, worth the purchase. It was very filling!

Made a last minute decision to visit and we were not disappointed! The service is very friendly! We ordered calamari, spicy butterfish maki, chicken katsu and green tea. All delicious however the katsu took a while to come out. They generously offered us cheesecake to try! It was delicious and not too sweet. Great menu, good prices and friendly service. I would say they can dim the lights a bit more for improved ambiance and to ensure food comes out in a timely manner. Overall, I would definitely come back and recommend it!

They offer both a-la-carte and ayce options! We walked in during lunch and decided on a-la-carte since we wanted some torched sushi (which is available on their dinner ayce menu but not lunch). Everything was so tasty and fresh. The karaage and tempura hit the spot for our fried foods cravings. Surprisingly...I've never had beef teriyaki cooked so perfectly. It's usually dry and overcooked, but this one was soft and was even cooked to medium. Service was pleasant and attentive. Not sure if it's because they had extra with the snowstorm but they gave us some little desserts at the end!

The service is incredible here, and the vibe is cool-chic. Just loving the atmosphere here…read more As for the food, don't expect it to be a "traditional Izakaya" here, but that's not a bad thing. They do the "traditional" dishes with a twist / fusion. For example, the black cod is usually feel heavy with the miso based sauce, but they added some acidity to the sauce and they made the black cod taste rich and light (not to mention the black cod was perfectly cooked); traditionally the Brussels Sprouts would be finished by tossing balsamic vinegar over it. Sometimes that would still feel heavy. Instead, they tossed it with strawberry vinaigrette. So the acidity is very light and not too sweet. We finished our meal with the Yokai Signature Maki. Yes, they SHOULD be proud of this Maki enough to put their name on it. They hit it on the nail with the taste profile. I have a zero tolerance with spiciness, so they put the spicy mayo on the side, and I encouraged my wife to dip the Maki with it. She confirmed my suspicion that the spicy mayo took the maki to another level. We definitely will come to try other dishes. Edit: they comped us a slice of Matcha Cheesecake. While it is still not my cup of tea, but I was very impressed with how good it taste. My "dislike" is with cheesecakes because they feel heavy. Though it is still on the heavy side for me, but as soon as I spoon in a bit of the strawberry sauce, it just lightened up the whole thing. They have successfully amazed me with how well they play with taste.

I had high hopes of this izakaya but unfortunately the expectations fell short…read more The vibes were fun, but the restaurant is quite cramped and a bit too loud. I felt I had to shout in order for my friend to hear me who was sitting right across from me. I ordered: - brussel sprouts ($12) - tasty but salty - shrimp risotto ($22) - rice uncooked & salty - corn croquette ($10) - this was good - skewers sampler ($34) - quite overpriced for 6 skewers - forgot what drink was call but it was $8-$10 and was also very bland Everything was just overly salty. The only items I would order again is the brussel sprouts and corn croquette. However, portion size was quite small and not worth it overall.

Solid 4 stars! I really enjoy the maki platter from sushi blue! They don't seem to have a website…read moreand it's not already on Yelp so I found out about it via Doordash. So i was a bit skeptical. But I'm glad I take the risk cuz it was good! And I've tried quite a few sushi takeout during these covid months. We ordered the 42 pcs maki platter. It comes with 6 California, 10 red dragon, 10 caterpillar, 10 dynamite, and 6 spicy salmon. With tax and fees it comes to about $60. (If not doordash maybe closer to $50). The size of the rolls are big and the ingredients are fresh. And I'm so surprised that the rice actually tastes vinegary! This is rare for Maki takeout platter! Tho it is a tad bit too sour, if they can reduce the vinegar by a little it would have been perfect. And their rolls are not drenched with sauce yet each ingredient is so flavorful. I really enjoy the caterpillar roll, it has grilled eel inside it was so good. I think overall it is a very reasonable price and the Maki quality is good. It was also relatively quick so we didn't wait long until the food arrives at our door step.

This is a family run business by a husband and wife team with the help of their daughter…read more There are a couple of things that sushi blue stood out to me, in a good way of course. Firstly, I love the fact they give you a choice to choose between 5 or 9 pieces for their specialty rolls. I'm the kinda gal that loves variety but can't afford the luxury with rolls as they are often times too filling. At sushi blue, I can have my variety of rolls and eat it too! The second thing that differentiated sushi blue from other Japanese restaurants were their prices. I was amazed how much cheaper they were than some of the neighborhood sushi restaurants but let me assure you, the taste was just as good. For example, my black dragon roll would average $17 else where, but it was only $13 here. The texture of the rice can be a bit better but the quality of the ingredients was on par with my other favourite sushi restaurants. We will for sure order from sushi blue again!

Here's why: PROS: Location - off a main road, easy to find, parking is free Menu options - Good selection of items Taste & Presentation of food - Very good... food was tasty (with the exception of the Pad Thai in my opinion) and the seafood was fresh. Portions were good too. Service - Very attentive, quick and professional staff; conversation toward the end made them even better! Value - Price for all you can eat was very reasonable, worth it if you ask me! CONS: Ambiance - Floor was slippery (literally the entire floor surface, as though it had buildup of substance, it was odd.). Also the seating and general look of the place is quite old & outdated. IN SUMMARY: Overall ambiance is a factor in deciding on a restaurant, but is more important to me for a special occasion or on date night. When I dine out, taste, service and value are what mean the most to me. As for this restaurant, I would for sure go back! It's a great little local spot. As I upload the pics I'm also getting hungry again and that's always a good sign!!!
