Sushi and sashimi boat (small: 51 pieces)
    Natalie T.

We ordered the tempura appetizer and a small sushi & sashimi boat. The shrimp tempura was tender, but the batter needs work. The boat was okay. Nothing special. I feel like you'd have to go more north to get sushi that's more fresh and is at a lower price point. The service was great though. The waitress checked up on us a lot and was super nice.

One of our fave Japanese restaurants! Love their thick cuts of sashimi and sushi boats. The ambiance is like a cozy japanese izakaya and we always come back! Service is also excellent, they always come to refill your tea and check if you're ok

Stopped in quick to pick up lunch. It's kind of hard to find if you're looking from the parking lot as it's tucked in the plaza alley way. Nice and clean restaurant with very quick service. I got my lunch order in 5mins! The fish quality is great but the rice isn't seasoned well. The salad tasted off but the miso soup was good, quite standard. Not too salty. Things to improve on but not awful.

Got some lunch specials from this restaurant. It's nice that they have lunch specials on weekends too! Tempura was fresh with good batter and fresh ingredients. Enjoyed shrimp tempura and broccoli the best. Rest was all good - yam, onion, squash. 4/5. The spicy salmon sushi was great. I liked that they use full pieces of fish in addition to chopped fish with spicy sauce. Was only mildly spicy which is good because you can still taste the fresh fish. Don't like it where places mix the chopped fish with tons of tempura bits and sauce - always makes me wonder if they're trying to hold old fish. 5/5 California roll - pretty standard fare. Nothing exciting but nothing off -4/5. Dynamite roll - big tempura shrimp. Delicious and decent sized. 5/5. Price - lunch specials are a great deal for the amount and quality of food you get. I'd say on average this is a bit pricier than other places for better quality.

    Small sushi and maki boat

Tried out this sushi joint on the way up to Muskoka. My husband and I shared a small sushi/maki boat and it was pretty good overall. The quality is kind of like AYCE places, like their tuna and albacore nigiri, but it wasn't terrible. Good variety of nigiri and maki and we came out of it completely stuffed. Appetizers are the usual miso soup and this crunchy noodle sampler that I've never had at another sushi joint before. Service was good and our server dropped by every 15 minutes to refill our waters. Decor is very quaint and pretty, with private little wooden booths. Would be a great dinner spot to get to know your date better, but I've been with my husband too long now and we just chowed down with a couple comments here and there. :D

Cozy Japanese restaurant, only can handle 4ppl a table, fare quality and reasonable price, will come back again!

This place was slightly hidden in the plaza but they serve decently priced Japanese and Korean dishes. They have a pretty big selection of sake. I loved the decor of the place! We were seated at a booth seat but it was quite chilly since it was located near the front door. I liked how the booth offers more privacy and sound seclusion if you wish to talk about your secret business dealings haha. Ordered a small sushi sashimi maki boat for $43. It came with a tempura shrimp roll (really liked the sweet sauce that was drizzled on), a California roll, and a salmon avocado roll. Overall the variety of fish was not greatest with a lot of repeats in the sushi and sashimi but quality was not bad. One thing I do wish they would improve on would be the rice. It was a tad bit overcooked. Also the rice on the rolls were a bit more flavourful than the sushi rice. Perhaps it was a different batch or the rice vinegar was not mixed properly enough? Service: 5/5 They were very attentive and came by the table often to ask if anything else was needed. If I am ever in need of a sushi/sashimi fix, I would come again. Might try one of their bentos with teriyaki items next time.

    shoyu ramen and chicken katsu

this restaurant was such a cute and hidden gem with the best japanese dishes! the shoyu ramen had a strong umami flavour topped with the right amount of scallions and pork. the chicken katsu was fried to perfection with the outside being very crispy and inside being very tender. we love this place so much and want to try more items on there!

This is officially my new go-to sushi spot for three reasons: 1) amazing quality sushi. So damn good and fresh. 2) really nice presentation on food - makes you think like you're at a super upscale resto. 3) great service. The staff at the resto are so kind and generous. Honestly had a superb experience eating here. Food is SO good. My personal fav was the spicy salmon roll. Chefs kiss.

I would say that this spot is literally a hidden gem as the store is behind a wall, so the only way would be to park and actually look. I love how cute the interior is, and with the wooden booths to make your experience much more private and intimate. Their menu has a variety of sushi and sashimi dishes, and they have lunch specials that runs from 11:30a-3pm. The menu prices are reasonable so nothing is too overpriced. One thing I like is how their sushi and maki boats offer an option to make it all salmon (for an additional price) which is perfect if you're a salmon lover. We went with the small "Sushi, Sashimi & Maki" boat and loved how beautiful they plated everything. The boat also came with their Miso soup, salad and crunchy noodles. Everything was nice and fresh, and overall, we had an enjoyable time here. Definitely worth checking out!

Solid spot for take out sushi. Prices are reasonable and quality is slightly above average. Comes with miso soup and salad. If you need a sushi fix, highly recommend coming here. We ordered 6 meals before they opened at 12pm, and received our food at 12:15pm. So they're pretty efficient. Our family has been doing parking lot lunches so a spacious parking lot is important for us. If you and your friends/family are doing the same, you'll have no trouble finding space in this plaza. L

Excellent service. The staffs are amazing. Very attentive and accommodating. There are many individual rooms even for two people. Great place for date night. I love it how they serve free appetizer the soup noodles- crunch noodle soup, noodle and crunch bits in fish broth. I really enjoyed that. The Ebi sui mai- shrimp dumpling was tasty aswell. I've ordered the sushi dinner, beautifully presented. There were flower patels. The small sweet shrimp tasted very fresh and sweet. The fish to rice for portion for the sushi is good. The avocado in the California roll is very fresh. Taro chips were very good and fresh. Will be back again!

There's no reservation system but they do have a waitlist on Yelp which gets you in line (highly recommended). First to know is you can't pay with credit card here--there's an ATM in the front of the restaurant. As far as the restaurant goes, it was fantastic from start to finish. Our table of 4 was seated and serviced by 1 main staff member, Lydia, who talked us through the whole menu and ordering system, recommended some great starts and then kept us frequently updated all throughout dinner. She checked up on us along with her assistants who were also bringing items and servicing the table. The food quality was excellent with juicy and flavorful cuts of beef along with the shrimp, pork, veggies, side dishes/ponchon, and rice--it kept coming consistently. Grill changes were frequent as well. The atmosphere is lively and there are a lot of servers so you aren't trying get someone's attention all the time. But it doesn't feel too cramped at the same time. As it is AYCE, everyone in our group left full of course and enjoyed each course. I liked the almond tofu at the end! ----TL;DR---- Pros: great selection of meats, quality was top notch, huge portions of course as it is AYCE, service was prompt and all staff were really friendly. Cons: no reservations so need to be on a waitlist. The no credit card system is a bit of an inconvenience. Bottom Line: we loved it--definitely would go back again and enjoy more of their selections! You have to try them if you like meat and AYCE!

We walked into a lively, casual space that works especially well for groups, celebrations, or any meal where you want to take your time and enjoy the experience. The energy in the room is high, with the sound of grilling and conversation filling the space, and the table setup encourages a longer, more relaxed pace than a typical restaurant meal. The biggest highlight is the meat selection. The quality is consistently strong, with different cuts and marinades that give each plate its own flavor. The miso steak is one of the standout items, with a really good balance of savory, slightly sweet, and rich flavors. The marinated meats are where Gyubee really shines, coming seasoned well and developing a great char from grilling at the table. We worked through a range of options including kalbi, hanger steak, and sausage, mixing and matching as we went. The fun part is being able to control the cooking yourself, whether you prefer a lighter sear or a deeper grilled flavor, and the grill setup makes it easy to cook at your own pace. The sides and extras are also better than what we usually expect from an all you can eat BBQ spot. The sushi was surprisingly enjoyable, with smaller portions that made it easy to try different rolls without filling up too quickly. The bibimbap is another good addition, especially when paired with the grilled meats. Takoyaki and other sides helped break up the meal and added variety beyond just ordering meat after meat. The spread is broad enough that you can build a well rounded meal without feeling like you are stuck in a single category. Service was a strong part of the experience. Even with the restaurant being busy, the staff were attentive and checked in regularly to make sure we had what we needed. They kept the table moving, helped with ordering, and made the process feel smooth despite the constant flow of guests. The wait can be the biggest challenge, especially during dinner hours, but the service once seated helped make up for it. The staff also handled the high turnover of tables well, keeping the pace steady without making us feel rushed. Gyubee is one of those places where the experience is just as important as the food. The combination of grilling at the table, quality meats, good sides, and a fun group atmosphere makes it a great choice for a longer meal with friends or family. It is worth planning ahead for the wait because the meal itself delivers the kind of relaxed, interactive dining experience that makes you want to come back. The format encourages you to slow down, cook at your own pace, and enjoy the meal as a shared activity rather than just a quick dinner.

It's my go-to spot to get my don fix - I love the wide variety of dons (rice bowls) that they offer with various fish and seafood combinations. There are also unique appetizers in the menu, such as Purple Yam Croquettes, Crab Crackers, Braised Bamboo Shoots with Shirasu (immature whitebait fish), and Takowasa (marinated raw octopus pieces, to be eaten with or wrapped in nori / seaweed). Although the dons are the main highlight of their menu (hence the restaurant name), they also offer traditional sushi, sashimi, sushi rolls and sets (similar to other Japanese sushi restaurants). Miso Aburi Scallops were very flavourful - nicely torched, giving the scallops a nice grill / char taste. They came with red and green seaweed, and a bit of fish roe. Large Premium Hana Don contained a good amount of fish and seafood, including a whole abalone, uni, shrimp in the shell, aburi salmon, ikura (salmon roe), salmon sashimi, tuna sashimi, yellowtail sashimi, other various fish sashimi, tamago (egg), and a few slices of cucumber on a generous bed of rice. I liked that the rice was a mix of white rice and some type of dark-coloured grains. Unatama Don came with a big piece of unagi and tamago (egg) that were both excellent. The sashimi were all fresh. Okonomiyaki was disappointing but it was sort of expected... for only $9, it was about 99% just flour pan-fried in a patty, without any substantial fillings (unlike real okonomiyaki, which usually contains protein / seafood, cabbage, eggs, and other ingredients). Location is super convenient near Bay & Dundas, ambiance is very casual, and service is quick.
