Nice relaxed atmosphere. We were ecstatic about the outdoor seating, since we were able to bring our dog with us. It was very hot, but they had a fan & a covering over the tables in our section. The waitress was very accommodating. My Estrella glass of Zinfandel & salad were scrumptious. I particularly liked their raspberry vinaigrette dressing. It was thick & clung to the salad, not runny as I have seen at other restaurants. My husband had the Rueben & it looked amazing. He did not care for the coleslaw. He wished he had gotten the chips. If I could give a lower review, I would. We tried to to go there for lunch today, the week of 4th if July...a party of 4, that included 2 12-year old girls. We were rudely told by the hostess that our girls weren't welcome inside because they were underage and needed to be 18 or older because the establishment is a bar. First, you're a restaurant and bar. Second, if you're a bar, the minimum age is 21. And third, the hostess was rude. This is an excellent restaurant, great food, great location. Service has always been very good, most recently 4 of us went after a golf outing. Raven waited on us and was outstanding. Stopped in here before leaving town and was very glad I did. They have a Shrimp Burger, which is something I have never had before. It was excellent. Strange, unique, and tons of great flavor. Won't soon forget it -- I'd love to see more of this sandwich in my own town! It's a small place, but very cozy and quaint. The bartender was very kind and attentive, and seemed to know all the locals/regulars, which is always fun (especially for an out of towner like me). I have to agree with others, I don't think calling this an Irish Pub is really that fitting besides the decor and Guinness on tap. My food was average and forgettable, but my parents love the place for a quick bite. Service was nice, never felt rushed, so I guess that's why my parents like it. Don't go with family or a large group...this isn't a place to "hang out for a few drinks" in my opinion....though if you are looking for a quiet place to have a drink with a friend, this may be the spot for you. The Guinness was good, and poured right. They offer a shuttle service, I believe it's complimentary but haven't tried it myself. We stopped into Fibber McGees after a long walk on the beach one night because it looked like a happening spot! We are told by locals that it is always packed with people and fun! It is a small restaurant/bar, so I wouldn't recommend going here for an intimate gathering. It's on the mainland so there are no views. But the service was fast and we had a blast. Some people say that you can't mess up nachos but I consider myself somewhat of a nacho connoisseur...the nacho appetizer at Fibber McGees is phenomenal! read more

Stopped in for a quick bite yesterday and sat at the bar, waited on by bartender "JT" who I must say is the consummate barkeep, unobtrusive but attentive, perfect pour on liquor and highly professional and friendly, top notch in all regards. This little place sits on the corner of Queen Anne in the Sunset Village Shops near Ingram Planetarium and is part of the Fibber's dynasty of bar/restaurants and this one in particular, though small, is comfy and clean as a whistle. I had the fish bites appetizer special and coleslaw which were presented hot, and cold, and fresh pretty quickly, the breading on the fish phenomenal, the best-seasoned breading (and crunchiest) I've had in the area. Not sure if it's proprietary to Fibbers but it's something different from most and it really provides a welcome texture difference between the crunch of the breading and the delicate moist fish, which was cooked to perfection. Odd: This fish bite app is served with Ranch dressing, not the bottle kind but the real, buttermilk, homemade sort and though it seemed unusual when I saw it on the menu, the silky tang of the dressing compliments the velvet savory taste of the fish and breading. A perfect match, for sure. The cole slaw is not your average cabbage and mayo deal; it's the real thing, perfect balance of tart and sweet, cabbage and other goodies so fresh they're still screaming. Atmosphere is basically "golf" with tourneys on the TV but the sound down, not at all loud or noisy, perfect place to grab bite and a toddy. Also has outdoor seating if you like getting a tan with your brew. No major negatives, giving this one a Thumbs Up. read more

As new residents, we just stopped in to check out this place. We are a family of 5 with 3 elementary school kids. They had a whole bunch of open tables outside (small that really are suited for 4 people) and we asked if we could put 2 tables together and they said no and that it'd be 25-30 mins for a larger inside table. So it's a pretty good choice in Sunset when it comes to beer and most of what I've had. Service is excellent. But the bloody crab cake sandwich has ZERO flavor. Zilch. Nada. I have had the grouper bites (delicious but small), and the salmon sandwich (would make more sense if it wasn't one filet of salmon that you have to break in two) and they're all great. And my parents say that the fish and chips, scallops and Shepherd's pie (other than being too big) are delicious. But that bloody crab cake ruins it! The place might not be an Irish pub like they advertise. But if you steer clear of the crab it's a solid bet. (And they have cider! Which I have trouble finding anywhere). read more

This place has a nice little outside seating area if it isn't too hot. I got a shrimp burger which was unique and tasted great. Menu was limited and I am don't understand the sides option. I was told I could get slaw or chips with the burger, but if I wanted fries or onion rings I would have to order a $5 side of them. I was by myself so I didn't need an entire basket of fries or making my meal $18 for a burger. That doesn't make much business sense to me, but then it isn't my business. Service was ok. read more

Well this is a great hidden gem of an eatery. Had blacken scallops with a creamy whatever sauce over penne. Came with soup or salad, I chose she crab soup. Delicious as well. My son had the same. My wife had a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich that looked awesome. The absolute highlight was the desert. A Swiss chocolate chalet which was layered chocolate cake, white chocolate, and chocolate mousse with whipped cream, chocolate shavings, and drizzled chocolate syrup. The three of us shared the desert and it was to die for. The restaurant is small so it fills up fast but it's well worth waiting if you must. Great service and nice atmosphere. Definitely a must do in Sunset Beach! Should be listed under restaurants on yelp because its certainly more than a bar!!! Not one to hand out 5 stars but this one earned all five on this visit, and all for great price too. read more

Pleasantly surprised with how good the food was. A very small inside area, but don't let that keep you away (There is outside seating as well). The smaller area creates a very friendly and personal atmosphere. Come early though because it fills up fast! The staff was very helpful and someone was always willing to help out, regardless of whether they were our assigned waiter or not. Bar serves Murphy's instead of Guinness, but that's a plus to me! Daily specials on alcohol are extremely fairly priced for the quality of beer. Overall this restaurant/bar has a wonderful atmosphere and a good combination of locals and visitors. pros: food came out quickly and was good. Clean restroom and the atmosphere was wonderful. cons: I ordered the shrimp Caesar salad for dinner. Regular Caesar salad is 8.95 but shrimp (which were 6 jumbo shrimp) was 15.95. According to my math, that is more than a dollar per shrimp!! I felt for that price I should have gotten either more salad or shrimp. I generally felt the food was very overpriced for what you received and know of other places in the area that are within the same price range and offer better food. My friend got a wrap which looked decent but her side of chips was literally 1/2 a cup. Overall, go for the beer and atmosphere but not for dinner. Stopped here for lunch with my family. Three adults and two children. Was told at the door that we could not have lunch there due to the fact that they don't accommodate children. I was floored. I actually asked the girl, "are you telling me we cannot have lunch here?" Her response was "we can't help you". If there was a lower review than one star I'd give a negative. My husband and I tried this establishment while on vacation in Sunset Beach. I found the waitress to be very attentive and the food to be very good. The waitress recommended the seafood pot pie and I was not disappointed. The fact that they have pumpkin beer was an added plus! We found this local pub/eatery to be very clean. It is a pretty small place, with about 30-35 seats inside, but they also have an outdoor seating area. As far as attire, this place is casual. I've been a happy customer of Fibbers for years, but unfortunately, no more. After tonight's dinner we were informed that, as of April 1st, there is a 4% service charge for those that choose to pay with a credit card. That is, I believe, more than the charge MasterCard imposes on its merchants. There are plenty of opportunities for dining out in this area. I won't pay a service charge to Fibbers when none of the other restaurants in the area charge this fee. read more

The hostess was incredibly rude and downright mean! She tried to set 5 grown adults at a table made for 2-3 while there were 6 top tables available. I would have understood if it were a busy weekend but this was a slow Tuesday night. She said it was against restaurant policy to set 5 at a table for 6. It was with a small salad for $10.95 which seemed a little pricey for what you got. My husband got the grouper sandwich and he said it was pretty bland since there was no seasoning on it. He was not impressed with the coleslaw. Overall nothing seemed homemade. So, about the pub... It's teeny tiny. It doesn't seem like an Irish pub due to the limited draft selection. My husband and I eat at Fibber's for lunch several times a week. The tables, chairs and bar are sanitized and cleaned after every person leaves, the tables spaced and masks worn by ALL staff. Fibber's has been our go to place especially during Covid. The Health Department has given Fibber's a 100% Grade A rating for the last three plus year and Rich, the owner, gives his staff a generous bonus for that A Rating. In the winter there are Heaters and in summer Fans for your outside dining comfort. The food is great. Over the years, we have eaten every sandwich, salad and soup on the menu and never disappointed. We've eaten here a couple of times in the past and it was so-so, but we thought we could get a few decent items on a Friday night when a lot of local restaurants were booked solid. I ordered some basic things, like fried green tomatoes - a southern delicacy - which really were mushy and poorly prepared. But I put up with that. My main dish was a chef's salad. I eat chef's salads quite a bit so I know what they're supposed to contain. My husband was going to share it with me so he requested extra tomatoes. The salad was brought out with no eggs, hardly any meat, and only a few cherry tomatoes - which were warm. We ate it immediately so the food didn't have the chance to become warm. It was warm food, missing cold cuts and eggs that should have been in it, and with warm tomatoes (just the few they included) and warm - well, everything. They're supposed to serve it on a chilled plate, well they did not. Really terrible, just basic food and they didn't get it right. So I told two servers, mine and another one that asked if our food was ok. Then a woman came out and asked is there a problem, so I had to ASK was she a manager, she said yes. She did not provide her name. When i complained about the salad, she said it all comes out of the cooler so it should be cold, so I told her no, it was warm. No eggs, hardly any cold cuts, and warm. She said "ok" and returned inside (we were eating on the patio but the food didn't have a chance to get that warm) - then the bill arrived, she did not comp the salad of which we didn't enjoy and ate less than half. I didn't bother to tell her the fried green tomatoes were also not good, clearly she didn't care and did not even apologize or offer to comp it, or provide a dessert, or do anything to make up for the crappy food. So....we spend a lot of time in Sunset Beach and Fibber McGee's is not a place I would return to. That unpleasant and nameless manager cost the restaurant a lot of future business from us and I would not recommend them to anyone that I know. read more

Stopped in for a late lunch and a beer. Was seated right away and placed an order for the angus burger and some fries. Not too crowded but there were several people there so I was expecting a good wait before the food came out. To my surprise it popped out in about 15 minutes. Extremely tasty and very satisfying !! Only complaint is the burger came with chips and it should have came with fries. The fries had to be added on as an extra side so there's that. Overall I'm giving four stars based on the excellent tasting burger and quick service. With a few menu adjustments this place would be a regular of mine if I lived in the area !! read more

I ordered the shrimp tacos $14.95 for 2 small soft corn shells with about 6 small shrimp in each. Cole slaw side was ridiculous about 1/3 cup serving. Lunch for 2 with iced tea $46. Stopped by on a Sunday afternoon. Paul was our bartender and very friendly. Being a restaurant owner ourselves we are keen to spot the good and bad of most restaurants. Let me start by saying this place is very well maintained and impeccably clean. Attention to detail seems to be the theme here. We have read the previous reviews and of course there are people who complained but being in the industry we can respect the things most people do not consider, like reserving 4 tops for at least 3 guests or more, especially when you have a small floor like this place. The food is pretty good too. Had the slow roasted prime rib, yummy. Only suggestion Is to add scotch eggs to the menu. But that a personal preference and by no means a knock on the menu. Overall I highly recommend this place and please remember this is not a Corporate joint so don't expect the overhead and staff like a chain restaurant can afford. read more

We went to Fibber McGees twice this past week on vacation. Both visits were excellent. Our first trip was a rainy Thursday evening, very low key. Not a lot of folks. The bartender was great. She was very attentive. I got the salmon BLT wrap (it was rad) and my husband got the club. He loved it. We had a beer each and the tab was reasonable. We went again Saturday evening during a busy night. Got a table outside for six and the experience was equally great. Our waitress, Liz, (I wish I had gotten the bartenders name from the previous outing) was very attentive and quick with all drink orders. We had our young son with us and his grilled cheese came out super quick. We appreciated that beyond all measure. From our table we got the fish of the day, the salmon blt wrap again, the prime rib sandwich and the shrimp burger. My shrimp burger was AMAZING. I was expecting chopped up shrimp in a patty and it was nothing like that - straight up big shrimp sautéed in a batter. It was so good. My husbands prime rib sandwich was so great. It was a fantastic experience both times and I have to thank them so much. Great. Just legit awesome. Chill. Easy. Go there. You will not be disappointed. read more
