Stopped into Fiddler's Crab House with two coworkers while in Savannah. We started with oysters and fried crab claws for appetizers. Our waiter, Dan, did a great job walking us through the different oyster options and helping us try a variety instead of just defaulting to one type. Always appreciate a server who actually knows the menu beyond "everything's good." All three of us ended up ordering the grilled red snapper, which was excellent. Fresh, well seasoned, and cooked exactly right. Dan really stood out throughout the meal. Very attentive without hovering, and consistently trying to anticipate needs before we had to ask. I was craving fried oysters.... Ordered an Oyster PoBoy. I was not expecting anything as good as I have had in The Crescent City but wound up with nothing. Our Party of 4 waited about 45 minutes for our food. Mine arrived less than lukewarm and I sent it back. Two of us has Cheeseburgers. These arrived hot, but the french fries were Ccold. My wife had a Salmon Cub sandwich which was ok and since her accompaniments Cole slaw, and Salad did not need to be hot her meal was ok. I sent back my poBoy which they never tried to replace. Ordered new hot fries for the burgers. This is a big place which must crank out a ton of food on weekends. We were there for lunch on a slow day. No excuse for what we received. I've never felt the urge to write a review so quickly in my life. Hands down, this was the worst food I have ever eaten. I was highly disappointed -- it was a complete waste of money, and we will never go back. The server was kind, but unfortunately that was the only positive part of the experience. I had to spit out every bite of food I tried. My husband ordered the crab cake sandwich, which turned out to be a bizarre, unappetizing patty on a stale bun. My kids had the fried shrimp and a burger -- the shrimp tasted rotten, and the burger didn't even seem like real beef, also served on a stale bun. I honestly think I've had better burgers in an elementary school cafeteria. The only thing anyone seemed able to eat was the corn from my dad's plate, which explains why everyone was fighting over it. I ordered a half-pound of boiled shrimp and managed to try three before giving up -- each one was either rubbery, mushy, or tasted spoiled. Unfortunately, I didn't read the reviews until after we left, and I was shocked to see multiple people describing the same issues. We LOVED this place!! We were on a mission to find all the dog friendly places and this place did not disappoint. You can sit inside or outside with pups. We sat outside but it got chilly, so they quickly let us go inside. An older couple was annoyed that we had dogs and so the staff moved them to another table and apologized to US! As an owner with well behaved dogs I am always so appreciative to be felt like we aren't doing anything wrong. I even told them we can go back outside and they said absolutely not, you're not the problem!! Thank you guys! Now the food!! Fiddlers is on the riverfront. We were trying to kill time waiting for our riverboat so we hopped in here. We sat out on the upper deck. Ordered the gator bites which were yummy. Nice fried outer crust and now we can say we've had alligator tail. Rock crab claws were offered and I'm always up for some crab. Never tried this kind before. You have to hit them with a spoon to break the shell. It is so hard. (Hence..the name rock!) the waiter had to show me how. Very tasty meat inside. Wish they would give you a seafood pick to get it out easier. I also had a few steamed clams. You order them by the single. 2.50 each. ( I've never done that before. We recently went to Savannah and had two dinners at Fiddlers Crab House. we had eaten there a couple of years ago and were disappointed with the level of service. Thanks past weekend, we had two dinners here, two different servers and both were Steller. Whatever their problem was, they have addressed it and made corrections. We met with some unfortunate and unexpected hurricane weather on our trip to Savannah. Being from the south I wanted to show my Oregon companion what southern hospitality was really like, Fiddlers lived up to expectations. They welcomed us in from the rain with no reservation , were courteous and friendly. We enjoyed libations along with a few choice appetizers and had a delightful time. The oysters were very fresh and tasty, being a wine drinker I never thought ice cold beer could be so satisfying but they proved that correct, and the gator bites were a wonderfully delightful surprise! Fiddler's is a classic restaurant near the Riverwalk in Savannah and I was excited to try it. When we first walked in we were greeted right away and made to feel very welcome which gave us a great first impression. Unfortunately things kind of went downhill after that. Our waitress took quite a while to refill our waters and the service felt a little slow overall. I ordered the mahi tacos and they came out cold like they may have been prepared too early and sat while the rest of our party's food was being finished. For apps we got oysters on the half shell that were delicious, the blue crab quesadillas and steamed crawfish. For main entrees we got the seafood platter and the low country boil. My parents and I stopped into Fiddlers Crab House looking for some good seafood meals as we were staying at a nearby hotel. Upon walking in we noticed that they had reserve signs on just about ever table and basically the only thing open was the bar. Fortunately a waitress quickly came over and yanked a sign off a table we were near and she said we could sit. She came back with menus and took our drink order. We noticed others were coming in looking at the reserved signs and seemed confused like us but they were all assured they could go ahead and sit as well. It took a little while for our drinks to arrive and our waitress to come back but I think it was due to an influx of guests and maybe not enough staff at the time. Being from Maryland we love anything to do with blue crab and find it hard to get good crab cakes or crab items outside of Maryland. So when we saw Fried Blue Crab claw appetizer we had to try it. Unfortunately we were let down again. These were the tiniest claws I have ever seen. My Shrimp Po'boy was good. The shrimp were delicious and the roll was tasty. Fiddler's is located on the riverfront/River Street. We came for lunch around 1:30, and were seated immediately. Balcony seating is available but it was a 15 minute wait and we didn't care if we ate inside or out. The decor is seafood and sailor oriented. The bricks walls showed the age of the building, which was cool. The sweet tea was good. We ordered gator bites for our appetizer. They were delicious, the breading was really tasty and the dipping sauce was so good. For our entrees, my husband got a shrimp po'boy with fries, and I got a crabcake sandwich with potato salad. Stopped in for a lazy Friday lunch on the outside deck. Service was great and the location was perfect. We ordered a dozen of the house oysters and they were fine for the price with little to no brine which made them kind of sad. The crab dip, on the other hand, arrived in a bread bowl with a ton of chips for dipping, and was very tasty. I was looking for some good seafood went in the south. This place had a welcoming hostess outside with a five dollar coupon. The menu looked pretty good so I thought why not. The crab legs were 1 pound for marketplace, which was $50. I thought that was a little steep as you can get a seafood boil for much less but this is a tourist town. I must say the crab legs or some of the best, sweetest and non-fishy smell I've had in a long time. The bartender took our order, even though all of the tables were closed, and they only had outdoor and upper deck Seating. The special was red snapper, and it was pretty good. The calamari was kind of small and very thinly sliced didn't taste much like calamari at all. The dessert however, knocked it out of the park. read more

Leslie is hands down the dopest bartender in Savannah. From the second we sat down, she made us feel like locals instead of tourists. She walked us through how to properly do oysters (game changer), and made sure we hit all the must-try Southern staples--fried green tomatoes, gator bites, the whole experience. What really set her apart though was her vibe. Super friendly, hilarious, and just knew her stuff. Before we headed out, she hooked us up with a bomb ass drink that was the perfect send-off. Crab boil was extremely disappointing. There was absolutely no flavor. When I mentioned it to the server, he said the manager confirmed they boil the crab in plain water with no seasoning--which is surprising and not at all what I'm used to coming from Texas. The crab was also overcooked to the point it had turned gray. They offered a $5 discount, but that wasn't the issue. I simply wanted to provide feedback so the kitchen is aware there was just no flavor at all. Also the crab dip appetizer had hardly any dip in the bread bowl. Also had crab stew, pretty much bland mushroom soup with a teaspoon of crabmeat. Clam chowder wasn't too bad. Both soups were served cold. Hush puppies weren't (quiet) they were silent. So--you win some; you lose some. Of the spots that I stopped along my walk through Savannah, I'd say this was the most lackluster. As usual, I grabbed a vacant bar seat, and was greeted by the bartender. He was quick to tell me that it was his second day there and knew "nothing about the menu." I wanted to try a few local seafood items, so I ordered steamed shrimp and clams. The shrimp were fairly good, but nothing like gulf shrimp. They were a bit difficult to peel, but overall worth the effort. The clams however--were mussels. Humorously, there were no mussels in the shells. I had to search down in the abundant butter/wine to find the occasional mollusk. Overall, they were a letdown. A younger group sat down at the bar, distracting the bartender, and from that point, service tanked. Luckily, a veteran server saw me waiting to pay my tab, and stepped in. Visited during the past cold snap and found the restaurant to be warm and inviting. We started with the crab balls and those were delish! Then we both had the Low Country Boil and it was generous portions. My hubby loved his but i forgot to ask for no old bay seasoning as it makes it too spicy for me. That was totally my fault. Had to scrap off the layer of old bay off the sausages and potatoes. The shrimp cleaned up nicely. Then for desert we had the key lime pie which was very tasty. The service was good and I did not punish the server with a low tip because of the food. DO NOT ORDER THE RIBEYE STEAK. The quality of the steak was the worst I have ever had. A ribeye is known for being juicy, tender, and tasty. It has heavy marbling which gives it that juicy wonderful taste, even when cooded with only salt. This supposedly 12 oz. steak was tough and had no juice at all. It iwas only about a quarter inch thick and the parts that were even more thin came out well-done instead of medium. I added salt in hopes that it would help the taste to no avail. If you decide to go, even after this review, go during the daytime. If we had done this we would have at least had a nice view of the river. The service was good, the view would have been good if we had gone in the daytime, but the steak had absolutely no resemblence to a ribeye. read more
