And it was...disappointing. The crab cake was bland, it was also about a half inch wider than the piece of french bread it was on, and the whole thing just kind of came apart. The remoulade was tasty and added some zip, but you aren't paying $20 for a lettuce tomato and remoulade sandwich. The fries were tasty. Came here for the first time with my husband on a Saturday night. We had a reservation so I had no problem getting seated pretty quickly. Our server came over within a few minutes and got us started off with some drinks. For our entrée, my husband, and I both did the ribeye and crabcake entrée with a baked potato. I switched out my asparagus for the cheesy grits. The food came out really fast and was absolutely delicious! The cheesy grits were some of the best I've ever had! There were plenty of tables available and we were seated immediately. We started with the hummus (6 out 10) and she crab soup. (8 out 10). Hummus had a weird tomato glaze, peppers and jelly on top? Not our thing. I would ask for that to be removed or on the side next time. Toasted bread had butter on it. A little greasy but tasty. The crab soup was probably some of the best soup I've ever had. I dream about going back and getting more! I thought it would be too rich and creamy but it was actually more like a stew. So flavorful. Entrees we got the shrimp and grits (9/10) and the blackened fish sandwich (8/10). The catch of the day was swordfish and that was served in the blackened fish as the fish option. The fish sandwich could use a better bun, it's a little dry. Shrimp and grits were incredible and had pieces of sausage in there too. Highly recommend. Staff was friendly prices were reasonable. For drinks, we had a peartini and an old-fashioned. Both were good, not great. The standouts were the crabcake, the red fish, and the crème brûlée. The fried green tomatoes were in balsamic glaze with feta cheese, which was a nice twist on a classic. The Caesar salad was the weak part of the meal. It was way too big. Will not disappoint you. Our food was excellent, the service was top notch, and the menu has a wide range of choices, from a bluefin tuna special to mahi mahi with angel hair to a 1/2 lb. burger or a hot dog. The fried green tomatoes with balsamic glaze drizzled was a great way to start the meal. Our server Katie was attentive and friendly, as are the other staff. When I complimented their chef for making a mahi filet that was both crispy edged and tender and juicy, he was gracious and modest. I was in town with a large group of people looking for a nicer dinner and we settled on Boars Head Grill. It's located right along the water and is easily accessible walking from the city center. Because we had about 20 people, our party was split into two groups. The other table had spectacular service. He was extremely attentive and always ready to provide a refill or take an order. Our table's service was fine. However, seeing the contrast play out in real time made our service feel much worse. As for food, I had the steak and crab cakes. I requested my steak cooked medium and it came out pretty much exactly medium. That was not the case for other members of my party. Instead it was a classic Goldilocks with one cooked well and one cooked rare even though we all ordered medium. The crab cake was delicious though. read more

After spending a day exploring Savannah, we decided to try the local Boar's Head Grill overlooking the riverfront. It is a cozy tavern with window seating so we had a view of the water. Our server was Sharon, and she was very pleasant and welcoming. It was a very hot day in downtown Savannah so we were happy to take a seat and settle in here. We started off with an Oysters Rockefeller appetizer. Cheesy and Delicious. For entrees, we tried the black eyed peas burger, stuffed shrimp (2 of us ordered that: so good!) and a Chicken Caesar salad. Food here was carefully prepared and really tasty. I loved the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. It was very filling! The black eye pea burger was yummy and looked great. The chicken Caesar salad was enormous and very delicious too. Braving the age-old stairs on the way in is worth it for a meal at Boar's Head. It's non-pretentious service with high-end cuisine for a delightful experience. With a group of six, appetizers were on the agenda. Our server talked us into a shrimp dish which was basically a precursor to the amazing shrimp and grits main course item. More on that later. This was delicious, and the creamy grits outshined the shrimp (shrimp was also tasty). We also got crab cakes, which were legit with lots of lump crab and little filler. Our Maryland resident however said she never eats crab "away from home"". Her loss. One of us got the fish special with "poison" sauce. Just kidding it was hoisin but it was great seeing her reaction. That was thoroughly enjoyed, as were the other various seafood choices. Since it was my last night in town, and I hadn't gotten shrimp and grits this trip, it was time. I kind of already knew it would be amazing after the appetizer. Confirmed. So creamy, so flavorful, I made the right choice and was glad I didn't order this for breakfast or lunch. It was going to be nighty-night after this comfort food. But first, my colleague talked me into splitting bread pudding. This was excellent among the 4-5 other choices: key lime and creme brulee were enjoyed by others as well. The oldest restaurant on River street and locally owned and operated since 1959. The Boars Head turns out some beautiful and delicious dishes, like their Low Country Bouillabaisse. Loaded with tender fish,shrimp, and Sapelo Island littleneck clams then simmered in a tomato, saffron broth. Absolutely amazing! I'm kinda of a soup lover and tried many different kinds but their Blackeyed Pea & Ham with loaded veggies, then simmered in a chicken & ham broth was out of this world. A flavor explosion! Their entire staff from kitchen, to servers to host is what I like to call a machine in motion. They have to be to handle the many patrons that fill the place. And watching them, they seem to do it effortlessly. A very enjoyable and delicious experience from beginning to end. A must stop if you're in Savannah on River Street. read more

Came back and scooped out foam, filled my glass a bit, and then walk away to dry some glasses. So she apparently was going to give me a 3rd filled glass w old beer and fill rest of glass w new beer, while scooping out foam. She didn't know how to pour a Guinness from tap. No I'm sorry, no greeting. I looked over at hostess and a server and they just smiled and shrugged their shoulders. All this took approx 10-15 mins. So, I smiled, said thank you and walked out. The waiter had poor communication, was slow to bring drinks, and even slower with appetizers. We ordered three she-crab soups and three fried green tomatoes only two of each ever made it to the table. When we asked, we were told there was only one chef in the kitchen. Meanwhile, after more than an hour of waiting, tables around us (who arrived well after we did) were served their meals including dishes we had ordered. No acknowledgement, no apology, just a tacky attitude. Our waiter eventually ignored us completely and walked upstairs. We finally walked out. The hostess blamed the waiter, management never came to our table even though we asked to speak to someone. Absolutely unacceptable. Poor, poor service. It's a very nice place. It has the look and feel of an old English tavern with lots of reference nautical travel of the 19th century. If traveling Savannah it's a good place to stop. This place was on my list of restaurants to try so I was glad we were able to snag some seats at the bar on NYE. Hubs was starving and I was not so I figured I would sip on some drinks. I missed out on taking pictures because we were distracted in conversation lol. My wedge salad came out a lot quicker than hubs' food but I'm a very slow eater so it worked out. My wedge was massive but I think there should have been more tomatoes and bacon. I requested extra dressing when I ordered and I'm glad I did because the lettuce was extra watery. Hubs enjoyed his chicken piccata and I thought it was really good as well. We spoke about desserts and hubs wanted the bread pudding, while I wanted to try the trifle. We went with the bartender's suggestion of the bread pudding. It's was sooooo good! Another couple seated close to us were intrigued and ordered it after us. I think it would be even better with some ice cream. The bartender offered us drinks to go and explained you can walk the streets with open containers. Since we didn't know what we were doing after, we ordered drinks to go. We were also given commemorative 2023 champagne glasses, so nice! We will definitely be back to try the regular menu. The ambiance was very cozy. It had an old feel, as well as a local's regular place to dine and drink. The flooring, construction, furniture, and over structure was old and that made it more cozy and likable. It was very busy and traffic was constant while we were there.
