    Crab cake sandwich

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Boars Head is right on the river, in a good location. You can't miss it, it is just across the street from the trolly stop.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I came in for a late lunch and had most of the restaurant to myself. To start off, my waiter, I believe his name was Kevin, was FANTASTIC. 5 stars for him. He was friendly, a bit silly, and made sure I was taken care of. I ordered Chef Philip's Crab Cake sandwich. And it was...disappointing. The crab cake was bland, it was also about a half inch wider than the piece of french bread it was on, and the whole thing just kind of came apart. The remoulade was tasty and added some zip, but you aren't paying $20 for a lettuce tomato and remoulade sandwich. The fries were tasty. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is an old stone building and has a great view of the river.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I was told by a local that Boars Head can be hit or miss, but when they hit, it is out of the park. Maybe I just ordered the wrong thing. But if you are going to put your name on a dish, it should be a hit.

Second time visiting within two years and still impressed! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Wonderful service and such an inviting historic ambiance right on the Savannah River.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Enjoyed the bouillabaisse and the shrimp-stuffed crab pasta. So rich in flavor and generous portions. Prices are appropriate for the quality of food you are receiving. My favorite dining experience in Savannah!

Came here for the first time with my husband on a Saturday night. We had a reservation so I had no problem getting seated pretty quickly. Our server came over within a few minutes and got us started off with some drinks. For our entrée, my husband, and I both did the ribeye and crabcake entrée with a baked potato. I switched out my asparagus for the cheesy grits. The food came out really fast and was absolutely delicious! The cheesy grits were some of the best I've ever had! Highly recommend if you're in the area.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This place is located right on river street. You have to walk up a small little hill to get to the entrance as it's on a second floor.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] You can make reservations but it wasn't necessary on our visit. There were plenty of tables available and we were seated immediately. We started with the hummus (6 out 10) and she crab soup. (8 out 10). Hummus had a weird tomato glaze, peppers and jelly on top? Not our thing. I would ask for that to be removed or on the side next time. Toasted bread had butter on it. A little greasy but tasty. The crab soup was probably some of the best soup I've ever had. I dream about going back and getting more! I thought it would be too rich and creamy but it was actually more like a stew. So flavorful. Entrees we got the shrimp and grits (9/10) and the blackened fish sandwich (8/10). The catch of the day was swordfish and that was served in the blackened fish as the fish option. The fish sandwich could use a better bun, it's a little dry. Shrimp and grits were incredible and had pieces of sausage in there too. Highly recommend. Staff was friendly prices were reasonable. We would come again

We ate here several years ago so decided to stop in and grab a bite this trip. Drinks were really good, oysters were great and both entrees were really good but could have used a little more seasoning. Enjoyed our visit, wait staff were really good and friendly.

The food I would say was hit or miss. My family had the Boar's Head Burger which they all liked very much. The Chicken Picatta was yummy according to my mom. The service was really nice and attentive. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is a very quiet restaurant which is nice compared to all the loud pubs around.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Overall it's a nice restaurant to go to but nothing out of this world.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

First time visiting and the location was perfect, the style was spot on. I love the basement feel. Our sever explained all the highlights and what was out and what in. The food itself was very tasteful, I really cleaned my plate. The only thing that was a deterrent was the water glass that had lipstick stains all around the glass, we didn't notice it until after our meal ,getting ready to drink from it. But I will definitely try this place again.

After spending a day exploring Savannah, we decided to try the local Boar's Head Grill overlooking the riverfront. It is a cozy tavern with window seating so we had a view of the water. Our server was Sharon, and she was very pleasant and welcoming. It was a very hot day in downtown Savannah so we were happy to take a seat and settle in here. We started off with an Oysters Rockefeller appetizer. Cheesy and Delicious. For entrees, we tried the black eyed peas burger, stuffed shrimp (2 of us ordered that: so good!) and a Chicken Caesar salad. Food here was carefully prepared and really tasty. I loved the shrimp stuffed with crabmeat. It was very filling! The black eye pea burger was yummy and looked great. The chicken Caesar salad was enormous and very delicious too. Loved the ambiance here as well. Boar's Head is located in a charming, old building, but the food is classy and nicely prepared! If you are in Savannah, stop in to the Boar's Head Grill and Tavern. Ask for a table by the window for a beautiful view!

To share amongst the table, we ordered the cinnamon toast banane and crispy gouda grit croquettes. Thumbs up on both, particularly the croquettes which were the right balance of gooey and structured enough to eat with the delicious sauce on the side. The cinnamon toast banane was not so much toast as cinnamon rolls with bananas foster; the cinnamon rolls were really tasty and the bananas foster was good, though the bourbon flavor was strong. For my entree, I ordered one of the lighter vegetarian dishes - the mushroom tartine with tomato soup. I think it is one of the lighter dishes - certainly lighter than what my dining companions ordered - but it was still quite rich with a fair amount of gouda fondue in the tomato bisque soup. The mushroom tartine/sandwich was really flavorful with the pesto, cheese and tons of mushrooms. The restaurant is quite large with an upstairs seating area.

However, the lady at the front was not welcoming to us with our children. She said upfront that there are no kid menus, high chairs and strollers had to be placed elsewhere. I get it, it is good for us to know but it came across a bit unfriendly. She also did not want my daughter to momentarily sit in the waiting area with the other guests. I would understand if this was a fine dining upscale restaurant that was quiet but the ambiance was very ordinary. There was regular restaurant noise and people dressed casually. I got their chicken sandwich, while the rest of my family got the Dubai chocolate French toast, Bubble and squeak. My grilled chicken sandwich had a vast majority of flavors varying in the sandwich. The chicken was my only set back, it came off as under seasoned and bland, while the white bread and cheese melted together with the fresh lettuce. I also got their iced matcha latte with lavender syrup, which I was heavily surprised from how flavorful and sugary it was, I highly recommend this drink to any matcha lovers out there. The Dubai chocolate French toast was beautifully put together and delicious, shared across my family. From what I heard the bubble and squeak was amazing and was not too heavy or dull in flavor and is a great vegetarian option. Overall, the atmosphere inside was very light and put together, the creme walls contrasted perfectly with the historic stone walls. Before our trip, one of my fraternity brothers told me that if I wanted some of the best Southern soul food in Savannah, I had to visit Mrs. Wilkes. He also warned me that there would be a long wait. Let me just say--he was absolutely right on both counts! We arrived at the restaurant and stood in line outside in the rain. We didn't get seated until 1:00 PM. Normally, I would not wait that long for a meal, but for the record, and I can't believe I'm saying this--it was worth every minute of the wait. The experience was unlike any restaurant I've ever visited. My wife and I were seated at a large table with approximately eight other people whom we had never met. Yet within minutes, it felt like we were dining with family. The atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and filled with genuine Southern hospitality. The food was simply outstanding. Every traditional Southern dish you can imagine was brought to the table and passed family-style from person to person. The home-cooked flavors reminded me of the meals many of us grew up enjoying. Everything was delicious, and the desserts were just as impressive. What made the experience even more special was the sense of community. People of different backgrounds and races were dining together, sharing food, conversation, and fellowship. The staff worked together seamlessly and went out of their way to make every guest feel welcome. While we waited in line, a gracious lady shared the history of the restaurant and the legacy of Mrs. Wilkes herself. The staff even provided umbrellas to guests who didn't have one--including me--which was a thoughtful gesture that spoke volumes about their commitment to customer service. From the food, to the hospitality, to the rich history and unique family-style dining experience, Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room exceeded every expectation. If you're visiting Savannah, this is not just a meal--it's an experience. I proudly give Mrs. Wilkes Dining Room a 5 out of 5-star rating and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Savannah.

Been here for both dinner and lunch. All this said, I think my approach to this review is comprehensive. With regard to food, I think they have a decent (not expansive) selection of food, which I think lends itself to quality. They do most things really well. This said, I do think there is inconsistency based on staff at the restaurant. On one occasion they have accommodated a request, and on another I was denied the exact same request. I found this frustrating. On one occasion I've also seen management talk down to staff here, which is a big no no for me. All people (especially staff) are due respect and this rubbed me the wrong way. This was an isolated incident but it definitely made my dining experience uncomfortable. Especially because I was getting excellent service from the server!!! I've always had quality service from servers here. In the future, I would come to Rhett for convenience as a hotel guest (the hotel is lovely), but would likely not spend my money if I wasn't staying at the hotel. Overall- it's good food, decent ambiance... but there are soooo many good options in Savannah. You have to be exceptional to stand out in that city.
