My girlfriend and I were exploring the city, and found this spot. Extremely close to Vanderbilt University, and awesome stores around it. I thought it was just going to be a regular cafe, which it was; however, the food was amazing. I remember having a burger, and it blew me away. The meat tasted so fresh, I couldn't believe it. Fido is located a few blocks from Vanderbilt University on 21st Avenue. I decided to try Fido since The Pancake Pantry(closed at 3:PM) was closed and I read Fido served breakfast all day. It is a very trendy/hip style coffee house in my opinion and the atmosphere was very laid back :) Orders are placed/paid at the counter from the menu sheet. The wait was not bad considering the time of day (5:30PM). I ended of ordering the Steak and Hash($13.00) and let the family have the breakfast. Well, here my reason for 3 stars. I thought my meal was just OK, but parts of the Steak and hash brown potatoes were very overcooked and barely able to chew. I did get a chance to taste the pancakes, very thick, but nice flavor. What I did enjoy was the nice variety or organic deserts available. From cheese cake to muffins, Fido does have a large selection in this category. I hear the coffee is very good and there are more selections on the menu that I would like to try. Parking is free behind the restaurant, which was a refreshing break from most of my reviews in other cities. Trust me, I can completely understand how a coffee shop may feel if on a daily basis, a troop of people come in, buy a cup of coffee and occupy their tables and spaces all day which can deter other potential customers from enjoying the business. What I can't get a grip on is: I popped into Fido for a meeting this past Friday, and was unable to gain access to the Internet at 3pm in the afternoon. I moseyed up to an employee behind the counter to ask if there was a passcode or if she could offer some advice on how to access the WI-Fi. She was friendly enough, but let me know that during various times of the day, dependent on how the current traffic was, they turn off the Wi-Fi to motivate people to leave and to allow a fresh batch of customers to come in. Hmmmmm... doesn't sound like the best idea to me? Isn't it blasphemous to not offer complimentary WIFI at a coffee shop? Huh?! There has to be a better way to create customer flow in your business. Instead, my meeting and I grabbed our laptops and drove to Edgehil Cafe where we enjoyed coffee, treats, and Internet access... of course! Gave away those million years) and was pleased to see that it's still a staple of HV life and the food is as fantastic as remembered. I'd just gotten off a plane, so I wasn't in the mood for red velvet cake and coffee. I needed big boy sustenance. But, first I needed to visit the little boy's room. Why am I including such a detail? The bathroom is clean, spacious and awesomely green (the color). Clean bathrooms = happy me. Attention to detail here = great attention to what's on your plate. It matters. The generously-portioned (and perfectly savory) salmon scramble was a nice welcome back to my old stomping grounds. The egg and fish cooperated well in the form of big chunks with every bite. Herb cream cheese and capers acted as support staff (taste?), while the red onions brought it all together. Rarely can one go wrong with hash browns in the southland. The ones with this dish proved me right. Toast is toast but tea isn't just 'tea.' There's tea and then there's brown water. I was served tea. Nashville, I missed you. read more

Was I joking or was I serious when I said I wanted to come here because it's Taylor Swift's favorite cafe (according to our Nashville host)? Whether due to pop-country star fame or not, the wait was annoying. Even on a Monday around 1pm, the line still stretched, kind of symbolically, into the bathrooms. Walking in, we'd assumed that Fido was a full service brunch restaurant - it's not. Go straight to the counter (realistically, to the end of the line leading up to the counter), order and pay, and you'll get a sign you can stick on your table. Instead of large, visible numbers, the signs have photos of dogs. Our table had "Max," whose name was written in tiny print on the opposite side of the card. A waitress with excellent vision bearing your table's food will eventually, magically locate your sign after circling through Fido's three or four separate dining areas. Yes, there is a ton of seating, and after standing on line for 20 minutes with a throng of other hungry people, we were surprised to see plenty of free tables. Fido doubles as a cafe, but obviously no one is going to stand there for a half hour during brunch primetime to buy a latte and a cookie. Head next door instead to their sister location, Hot & Cold (http://www.yelp.com/biz/hot-and-cold-nashville), which has the same items. We had a chance to peruse the menu to death while waiting on line, and everything sounded appetizing. My all-vegetarian Village Scramble was fresh and delicious. The accompanying potatoes were totally unseasoned and burnt, but kind of in a stark, enjoyable way. Well, you still had to pick off the many inedibly black pieces. Karry L and Puja P seemed to enjoy their Steak Scramble and Veggie Burger as well. The "Amazing Fries" with wonderfully garlicky aioli lived up to their name. Worth a visit as a tourist? Fido is home to an incredible burger and decent breakfast-y options. I'm still fantasizing about their roasted sweet potatoes, which is a huge accomplishment on their part considering I'm not normally a fan of sweet potatoes. If you're concerned for parking, you can park for free in the lot to the back of Fido and have them validate your ticket. The cafe is very open and inviting, lots of nice little touches and decorations. You wait in line to place your order, after which receiving a number to place on your table and have them bring out your food. Such a system is quick and efficient; the line moves pretty quick and even if there are no tables when you come in, by the time you get through to placing your order you'll often have found a table free up. Behind the counter was a very friendly guy from Houston who took our order. Despite having a large number of people after us, he took the time to talk to us and set a great tone for the meal. I ordered the lamb and beef burger. It came with crispy onions and pickles. The cut of meat was fairly thin, but very well seasoned and came together very well (not a sloppy burger). The bun was lightly charred, which was a nice touch. You have your choice of a side and being in Nashville, I opted for the roasted sweet potatoes. They were as smooth as butter, served with a side of delicious aioli. I'm seriously missing those right now. For one of their fancy drinks, my wife ordered The Rickshaw drink which was some blended espresso and masala. I tried it and loved how it wasn't too sweet. I rarely order espresso drinks more complex than Cafe Au Lait, simply because I often find them too sweet and unpalatable giving me a huge sugar hangover a few hours later. The Rickshaw was different and was a perfect blend of that delicious caffeine comfort that you just need on some days. read more

We had such high hopes for breakfast out and not hotel breakfast but that was a bust. We asked for a well done toasted bagel and eggs and eggs,toast, and bacon. The bagel and toast was barely toasted and the bacon was barely cooked. We asked if both bagel and bacon can be cooked more. The staff member was very kind and said yes and 10 minutes later brought over a burnt bagel and dry over cooked bacon. . So disappointed. I know they are busy but unacceptable to me. It's incredible how much Fido's menu has changed since I was a student at Vandy and yet, the venue is still the same place I loved to study, and grab a cup of much-needed caffeine. Casual place to grab breakfast / brunch / lunch. My girlfriend and I decided to skip Pancake Pantry's long line for a quick last meal in Nashville at Fido. We arrived at 8:30 AM on Memorial Day, and there was almost no line and plenty of available seating. There was also plenty of parking spots along the street and in a nearby private lot (2 hr limit for the street parking - not sure about the lot). Fido is self-service: order at the front, take a puppy buzzer, receive your food from the runner, and take care of your own napkins and beverages. The puppy buzzers are adorable - with a cute puppy photo and a short "about me" for the puppy. My girlfriend and I have an established ordering system for brunch: one savory, one sweet, and one coffee to share. At Fido, we ordered the Pete's Breakfast with Chorizo, Sweet Potato French Toast, and an Iced Americano. We also grabbed a Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin to-go (their display of baked goods - cookies, muffins, cake slices - is the most tempting thing ever). Pete's Breakfast with Chorizo - Yummy! Pretty much a breakfast taco. I think I ate too fast to notice the chorizo, but the eggs were perfectly moist and cheesy. It paired well with the flour tortillas and the side of salsa and sour cream. Not the best I ever had, but no regrets. I really liked the texture of the hashbrowns - slightly crisp edges, but otherwise soft. Sweet Potato French Toast - More like Sweet Potato Pound Cake. I honestly do not think this dish fits the definition of french toast. We enjoyed the dish nonetheless. Very good with the side of whipped cream. Note that it is extremely rich and heavy (like a pound cake). I honestly did not need any of the syrup, because it was too much. In the end, we took half a "slice' to-go, because we started getting sick from the sweetness. If you love cake for breakfast, order this! Iced Americano - Decent. Nothing to blow me away. Better than Starbucks, but cannot compare to some other coffee shops. Overall, we enjoyed our quick brunch in the casual cafe environment. Great selection of both sweet and savory. It's THE hipster spot of Nashville. Located right off Vanderbilt campus, Fido is frequently visited by trendy College something's who want light fare and coffee with leaves in it. The best draw to Fido is the quality of the food where executive culinary expertise seems to roll straight out of the kitchen every dish. I haven't had a meal at Fido that wasn't impeccably prepared and delicately balanced, with all the attention you want spice/sweetness/meaty/tangy whatever you can think of. The breakfast scrambles are pretty dope, and so far my favorite dishes involve the marinated steak, either topping a salad or pile of hash browns. As a red blooded college male, I wish the portions were a tad larger for the price, but it evens out with the expertise noticeable in every dish. Also, there are puppies on cards indicating your order, so that's pretty damn cute. Check out Fido if you want a good lunch or brunch or even dinner in the Hillsboro area. Rule #1: Fido is always busy. Insanely, crazy busy. Even though Fido has lots of space during these busy times plan on about 20-30 minute wait in line to place your order. It is counter order so there is no waitstaff. What this also means is that during the peak times they turn their free wi-fi connection off in order to move people out of the seats so that it can free up other room for more guests. I really love Fido's food. Their breakfast is slammin' with my favorite dish so far being the salmon scramble. This is scrambled eggs made with smoked salmon, capers and some kind of sauce. It comes with potatoes and toast. Their coffee is not my favorite in Nashville but really great nonetheless. You should order the Irish Setter and get it iced. Fido offers wine, hot food and Naked fruit drinks. They have a large selection of gluten free baked goodies including a cake made with beets that has pink frosting. Another really fun thing about Fido is that when you place an order for food they don't just give you a number. They give you a number with a picture of a dog and the dog's bio. These are dogs owned by customers of the restaurant. To get your dog on one of their order numbers all you have to do is fill out an application, submit a photo of your pooch and donate a fee (whatever you want) to the local Humane Society. The higher you donate the more likely your dog will be featured. This is a really fun, really cool thing Fido does. It is a must try! read more

I ordered a breakfast sandwich and my husband ordered a scrambled egg mix thing. (Can't remember the names, sorry!) I ordered a specialty coffee and he ordered drip coffee. Bill was little pricey, but whatever. Food took quite some time to come out. It was hot, but none of it was very exciting. The bagel sandwich tasted exactly like something I could make at home. The egg mix my husband had...should have been amazing with all the things in it, but just was blah. I get so frustrated when I come to restaurants and pay money for food that I can make better at my own house The coffee was just ok, which a few other reviews have touched on. I came here for breakfast on my last day in Nashville. There was a long line but that was the case with every popular place we went to during the weekend. The theme of this place is adorable. I used to come here during grad school and get nothing done. The people watching is great, especially if you grab one of the many seats at a bar facing out onto 21st Avenue. Fido is still a great spot for a bite or a java. The line sometimes gets long, especially during weekend breakfast hours, but it moves fast. You better send someone to find a seat while you're in line if it's busy. And by find a seat, I mean hover like a vulture hoping someone gets up. On weekends and in the mid-afternoon, seating is plenty, making Fido a great option for late lunch. The scrambles and most of the sandwiches are good choices. The specialty drinks, such as the Jack-o-Latte (fresh pumpkin spice) are nice alternatives to prepared syrup used at chains. read more

I came here twice a day when I first moved here; there wasn't a thing on the menu that wasn't outstanding. I recently had a disappointing experience, but figured it had to be an off day. I went back a couple of weeks later and boy was it terrible. My friend's hash browns were burned to a crisp and cold, my toast was also cold and rock hard. They accidentally had put salt instead of sugar in their pancakes and remorsefully replaced it with a dense underwhelming cinnamon roll that tasted a day or two old. I'm really hoping someone turns this place around and brings it back to its originally glory! But until then, I can't recommend it. read more

It was a beautiful day, although I might have honky tonked too much the night before to really enjoy it. Our food came out pretty quickly and all the staff was polite!
