We went to Fiero for weekend brunch and ordered the Sicilian and vegetarian omelette. The Sicilian omelette has the savory sausage and sweet pepper/ pea stuffing and the vegetarian has the spinach cheese stuffing. The coffee is pretty stellar and the service is always friendly. I've never had the food, but it smells delicious and the options (paninis, pasta, etc.) look pretty good for a coffee shop. Service here is superb! I wouldn't have expected anything less from the Italians- always so nice and hospitable. This is a nice, small cafe located in a structure that resembles a little house. It has a lot of windows, letting in a lot of light, and the space itself is pretty big, with 2 little separate dining areas, as well as outdoor seating for a nice, sunny day (and if you have a pup). The menu is simple and not too complicated with too many choices. I went ahead with the bacon, avocado and arugula omelet (49.75), and it was just ok. Nothing out of the ordinary, and not heavy with flavor. The food itself was only 2 stars in my honest opinion, but the overall experience and ambiance really brought it up. read more

Fiero Caffe is consistently good. The food is delicious in a comforting way and the staff is friendly and amenable to little additions such as adding avocado slices atop a salmon omelet. Came here the other day with my boyfriend as we were waiting for an office to open up. Fiero Caffe was nearby with free wifi so it allowed my boyfriend to get some work done while I chilled a bit. The cafe itself is actually bigger than I thought. They have tables outside, and 3 rooms inside with tables everywhere. One room was smaller than the rest, but they were still able to utilize the space in there which was pretty cool. Prices were a little steep, where two regular drinks + 2 pastries ended up costing me around $15 but I guess I have to pay for the ambiance, too. What was nice about this place was that the worker actually brings the drinks to you. Sure you could wait around the bar for them to give you the drinks, but I thought it was nice that they were willing to walk over to give it to us. I would've liked it if they had warm up the muffin and almond croissant for us, but the pastries had good flavor at least. Parking is all on the streets. There's about 4-5 metered spots outside and 2 of them were 24 minute ones so you may have to park at the parking garage across the street. read more

Great coffee, friendly service, and tasty bites. They know how to pull a good espresso here and utilize a nice, bold roast. It's like being in Rome, except on El Camino. The owner and staff a very friendly and aim to please. The food selection is small, but varied. They even have a few good vegetarian options (though not much in the way of vegan). I highly recommend the eggplant parmigiana (when they have it) and the vegetarian pesto panini is good too. They have a fairly large space with a few different rooms and outdoor seating. Nice little Caffe, Fiero that is. The sicilian omelette was ready in 12 minutes; a two egg omelette comes with fresh sausage, pea's, cheese and other goodies. Two little toasts add some carbs. And, comes with a side fresh spring salad with light dressing. Healthy. The portion Is on the lighter side and that's all good. The house coffee is very dark and strong, Like! Totally unassuming breakfast place with a nice sitting area outside and a small room at the back with a garden view. I walked in thinking it was very casual like a diner and then I tried the coffee and was blown away! I then got egg white omelette which comes with salad and toast which was way better than other places. I drove by so many times wondering how it would be and finally got to try it! I walked in a few minutes before 2pm and asked the older man (presumably the owner) if they were still taking orders to go. He said yes so I ordered an omelette and iced tea to-go. After a few minutes he handed the iced tea to me and muttered "here you go Beautiful". And I thought that was strange but probably harmless? I should add that I was in full WFH attire and was fully disheveled. When the omelette was done (and I was waiting by the door facing the counter so I was standing very close and only a few tables around so the cafe was pretty quiet) he yells at me with an inflected voice dripping of sarcasm - "hey BEAUTIFUL!! I absolutely love this cafe. I was warmly greeted right when I entered and I knew right away that this would be a five star place. Ambiance-perfect. Located near a creek, Fierro has a calm, relaxing feel as well as the social, coffee shop warmth. They have three rooms: a main coffee/cafe room, a more quiet "study room", and then a small, more private room. Food- I ordered an omelette and it certainly did not disappoint. I like this place an a number of ways. That said, I discovered first hand that there is a family that comes into the place regularly in the morning and the way that the kids greet the owner is to scream, and I do mean scream, at the top of their lungs to greet the owner. They walk in with no regard for anyone else in the place and absolutely disrupt everyone in the place. I had an unpleasant conversation with the father, who defended what they were doing. I talked with the owner and asked if he is OK with kids screaming in the restaurant. He said yes, he's ok with it. If you want any kind of peace and civility when you go out to eat, and want to support restaurant owners who care about your experience in the place, you might want to go somewhere else. read more

There are very few casual places in San Mateo that are rated 4 stars or higher, despite there being a lot of good food. The fact that this place is rated 5 with over 50 reviews so far is definitely noteworthy, and well-deserved in my opinion. Outside, the place kind of looks like a diner. The sign is very diner-ish even though it says cafe. Once you go inside, it feels nothing like a diner. The decor is very interesting and hard to describe in one word. It has a cozy/homey feel, but is also open/spacious with a lot of natural light. It feels like a house because there are a couple different rooms where you can sit and eat, but they're all connected via open door-ways and all the rooms have windows. It's definitely a neat place to chill and do some studying, minus the hustle and bustle of a busy coffee shop. The food is very fresh and tasty. This is one of those places where the ingredients and dishes are simple and straightforward (they almost sound kind of plain when reading the menu), but because everything is made well and made to order, it tastes great. My go-to so far has been the Sicilian omelette, which is not made from your typical pizza italian sausage but something that looks more freshly ground and not pre-shaped into chunks. The egg is scrambled very well and has a soft texture. And like I said, it's made to order so when you get your food you know it's hot off the grill. If I had to gripe about something it'd be that it's a tad on the oily side, but not sure how much of the grease is from the sausage or from added oil for cooking. Lastly, the staff here is super friendly and just the right amount of energetic. The owner is so nice and makes sure everything is ok. Because everything is made to order, the food doesn't come out fast, but he'll check in every now and then and let us know when we can expect our food to come. One time I came in with a few coworkers, and after we all finished our meals, he gave us chocolate mousse to share on the house! (and yes, it was good) The location of this place makes it lower profile since it's just outside of downtown on the other side of El Camino. But I would highly recommend seeking this place out. read more

My windy, cold Sunday consisted of dreary school work, but Fiero Caffe really perked up my day. :-) Upon entering, the cafe is super clean with plenty of seating options (and outlets!!). The music is great, and the guy behind the counter was super friendly. They have a pretty robust food menu, and I would've ordered something if I wasn't still full from a late lunch. Instead, I ordered a vanilla latte and then posted up in the other room with my laptop for an intense rendezvous with the final draft of my senior thesis. I love coffee shops, and the soft background noise really got me into the writing process. The latte was AMAZING, foamy, and delicious, just the right sweetness (some places really drown out the coffee with sugar). I would definitely come back, especially if I needed to get some more work done. Access to outlets, free wifi, and delicious coffee is a great combo for productivity. read more

We went here on Sunday morning and sat outside. It was nice and warm and the outdoor seating was nice and quaint. They had good shade available for us to enjoy our breakfast outside. The food was tasty. We had a veggie omelette as well as the prosciutto panini. Both of which were very tasty. We also enjoy the almond croissant. All had really great flavor. I am so glad this place replaced "Cafe Rendez-vous"! Great Italian food, for a reasonable price. My wife had the Sicilian Omelette with spicy sausage and I had the Eggplant Parmegiano; we both had a glass of Italian red wine and we shared a chocolate croissant for dessert. The whole meal was under $40, with tip. There are several rooms to sit indoors but we took advantage of the sun to sit outside, and enjoy our great lunch in the sunny morning. My boyfriend and I's favorite casual brunch spot for those lazy Sunday mornings where it's a miracle of we drag out of bed before 11 and am out of PJs by noon. The owners a fabulous man, full of vibrant energy and warmth that makes you want to come back again and again. The cafe ambiance is lovely, what with the space being flooded with light and the happy clinking of coffee cups and silverware and the sound of soccer playing in the background. But really it is of course also the food that just can't be beat. Delicious, homemade, and simple yet elegantly made meals that always leave us full, happy, and content. There is not a single thing on the menu I can complain about. Everything is wonderfully made! I enjoy ordering an iced latte and the salmon penne. Salty, smoky flakes of salmon mixed in with a generous portion of elbow pasta, creamy tomato sauce, and herbs. I also love the lasagna, ravioli, omelettes, eggplant parmigiana... seriously.
