I love this place so much. It's a family owned business that has so much heart and soul. I have loved every single thing I've eaten here. If you manage your expectations right, this place is a gem. The service is some of the worst I've ever experienced. We were seated without placemats, napkins or silverware. We sat for an insane amount of time before they brought us a menu, took our order or brought us a single thing. But my expectations were low - so to me it was hilarious. The food came out slowly - but it came out hot and it tasted great. The waiter was a doofus but he was super nice and was apologetic even though we didn't complain. The bathrooms are gross, the lighting is weird, the decor is barely Mexican. They don't have a single avocado-based item on the menu - but everything they do have is delicious. More like Festering Hut... I've dined here thrice and fail to see any reason for ever returning. The fact there is no sign on the exterior is a red flag. There's a foul odor upon entrance, and view of the interior clearly shows it I'd severely run down and in need of immediate repairs. All of this would be benign if the food excelled. It is mediocre at best, and there's an unexplained wait for it as well. Regardless of how many patrons are there, you will wait forever for their food. The chips and salsa do arrive immediately but they're lackluster with cold, unsalted chips and liquidy salsa. Also it's very small portion, like for one person rather than the table. Their prices are rather high, and the quality of the food doesn't warrant it. The cash only stipulation does not help. There are far better Mexican dining in the area. Las Maravillas in Hawthorne for example. I've also found safety hazards prevalent. I cannot comprehend nor understand the high ratings. read more

This might seem like a silly review but I've been thinking of Fiesta Hut recently. I don't live in the area and haven't been there in a long time, at least a couple of years. But back years ago, and I mean like 25 years ago, Fiesta Hut was "my place." There was a trio, Fiesta Hut, Caffe Capri and Park and Orchard. Fiesta Hut is the only one that is still here. I probably ate there at least twice a month for years. It's a unique experience because you're eating at a family restaurant. So yea, I do remember the service was a little slow, but that was ok with me and my family. The food was, and I'm sure it still is, delicious. I especially liked their guacamole. They must've used perfectly ripe avocados because they were able to really produce a wonderful creaminess. Anyway, if you happen to be in the local area, do yourself a favor a stop by and try their wonderful food. Next time I'm passing through I'll do the same. Easily one of my favorite mexican restaurants ever!! The ambiance is relaxed and welcoming. The decor is simple, with family charm. This is not your dine and run out type of place; plan to hang, have great food, and enjoy your time. The margaritas are phenomenal and always have you wanting more, plus they're always made with quality tequila. The food is classic and tastes homemade with every bite. The ingredients are simple but the quality and spices speak volumes! I love the interchanging combos that they offer-- mixing tacos, tostadas, enchiladas, burritos, tamales and more! You can choose cheese, chicken, beef, or pork for any of your choices, and to be honest any one of them is going to be highlighted perfectly in whatever dish you choose. This place is a huge disappointment. We ordered chicken enchiladas and requested for them not to be spicy. They said ok and continued to take the order. We also ordered bean burritos and a side of sour cream and two desserts. First of all they only take cash, but don't tell you that even when you're waiting longer for your food. The chicken enchiladas were extremely spicy and when we called about it they claimed they "can't control the level of spice". What kind of real restaurant can't control the spicy level of their sauces! And if they can't they should tell you that while ordering. They didn't give us one of the desserts at all and the sour cream is simply bought from a store and not homemade. Taco Bell would have been a better option. I won't be returning or recommending this place to anyone. read more

This was literally my favorite restaurant my whole life. My parents actually brought me in a carrier that they put on top of the table cause I was that small. They originally came from the route 4 location. My entire life I grew up at this restaurant. I told people that I never wanted to move far from Jersey cause I couldn't live without fiesta. I legit said outside of family deaths that Fiesta closing was the equivalent of a death in the family It was so important to me. Before my grandmama passed she would always order the soup and ask if she could drink from the bowl if no one was looking. I remember going there with my father even after my parents divorced where he tested me on my prepositions and we bonded over the fact that I introduced him to the quesadillas with tomatoes, which are amazing. For me It was a place I went after a bad day at work, it was my first stop after coming back from vacation and a huge part of my formative years. In February 2023 I made the "mistake" of sitting on my dates lap for about five minutes. Nothing inappropriate happened. Fast forward to a few months later when I went there and was accosted by the owner. Her exact words were "you put on quite a show last time you were here " and "this is a family place so next time you want to make out with your boyfriend go outside". She also said I blindfolded my date. I remember saying literally that I would never bring a blind fold on a date cause who does that ? Lol I said if anything MAYBE AND THATS A BIG MAYBE that I covered his eyes for two seconds with my hand and some people interpreted that as me being a kink freak and going to my favorite restaurant with a blindfold (it's actually laughable when you think about it ) anyway, Ive never been so disrespected in my life by a restaurant I've literally gone to my whole life. Thankfully my mom, who never has my back, so that's how you know she's really mad, went in there and flipped out cause she was paying a huge amount of money for her daughter to be yelled at. It's been over a year and a half and I miss it, I really do because it was such good food, my actual favorite restaurant, but I will not step foot in that place after the way they treated me. I hope they're happy that they lost lifelong , literally 30 plus years Patrons, because someone sat on someone's lap. My mom also said on her way out that she definitely tipped more than usual and she didn't tip people to make her daughter cry. So yeah. It sucks. It's my favorite restaurant, one that I literally said I wouldn't leave the east coast for and they sold me out for sitting in a guys lap. Shame cause it's actually amazing food wise. We are addicted to Fiesta Hut. I don't even want to write a good review because I don't want more people going there and taking my table BUT I know this is good for them. The cheese enchiladas are the perfect meal and every week our bodies crave them. Add to this, the best guacamole I've ever had (I do not know how they get it so creamy) and margaritas that are so fresh you can't beat them. I have had almost every vegetarian option available, I have never had anything there that I didn't finish and then want more of! The food and the people are just the best, in the first few weeks of Covid when they were not open we actually were really sad and the minute they answered the phone (because we were calling like a crazy ex) we actually yelled out in joy. read more

But due to mine and my husband nightmare digestive issues we've been having all night and day I think it's worth mentioning that this business needs to do a better job. First off, everything is spicy. Even the guacamole that lacked every single other flavor besides spice. It tasted like a plain avocado and a jalapeño. The salsa tasted like tomato sauce. In addition, online it says they close at 11 but they actually close at 9. We called at 9:45 to place an order and they first asked what we were ordering before they agreed to make the food. This is my favorite restaurant of all time, and I'm gonna tell you why! Fiesta hut has been around forever. My dad used to eat at their old location many years ago, and he is the reason I discovered and love this place so much. First of all, I love Mexican food. I love spicy food. Gimme all the tacos, enchiladas, burritos of the world. Fiesta hut is a little hole in the wall (they don't even have a sign outside), but Fiesta hut is AUTHENTIC Mexican food. No on the border, chilis, fakeness frozen here. Everything is fresh and made to order. Don't let their outside store appearance stir you away, sometimes the hole in the restaurants are the best ones. I always get the nachos, queso, and quesadillas. Their nachos are not your typical nachos. They consist of fried corn tortilla, refried beans, cheese, and jalapenos. And Guess what? THEY ARE DELICIOUS. Simple, yet very satisfying to the palate. The queso is cheesy, creamy, gooey, flavorful. I think fiesta hut's queso is one of the best queso I've ever had (and I've had a lot of queso). The quesadillas are cheesy, creamy and gooey as well. They come with jalapenos, onions, and tomatoes inside. The daily meal I order is the cheese enchiladas with red sauce. O.M.G. it is the best flavor explosion in my mouth! I can't describe how delicious they are, so do me a favor - come here and try them yourself! You won't regret it. So, a couple of weeks ago the wife was jonesing for Mexican and had heard about this place from some friends. I'm not a big lover of Mexican but usually order beef fajitas when she drags me to one of these places. We arrived later in the evening so the place was fairly empty,, only 2 other tables occupied with 4 and 5 people. So imagine my surprise when we stood waiting in the entrance-way for over 12 minutes waiting to be seated. I finally wandered to the back of the house looking for an actual employee. At that point the waiter pops out from somewhere and asks if he can help us. I inquire is they are still open as we have been waiting in at the door for over 10 minutes. He say, "yeah, well, I'm by myself tonight" as if that should explain and make everything alright then, So we are seated and he take our drink order. The wife orders a margarita a I a coke. Just about another 10 minutes pass before the drinks arrive. During this time I note that fajitas are not on their menus. However, when I inquired he states they make them, it's just not on the men. Although the price quoted seemed a bit high, I was just happy that I could get my fajitas. My wife also ordered a beef dish although I forget exactly what. And off he goes to put in the order. About 10 minutes later he's back at the table to tell us that "they are out of beef" and asked if we'd like a chicken dish? Having now wasted almost 3/4 of a hour here just to come to find out that they don't actually have anything we felt like eating, we gave the thing up as a bad job and headed to the local Chili's having sampled only the Coke and a margarita, which the wife says pretty much sucked. To recap, service sucked, drinks sucked and the food was non-existent. I believe we'll be passing on Fiesta Hut in the future and can only suggest that others do the same. read more

In the entire history of the world, there has never been a better example of good food/bad service than the Fiesta Hut. Not rude or snotty service, just consistently clueless, understaffed, overmatched service. If you are the type of person that can't stand this type of service - do not go here. If you are the type of person that is willing to withstand this type of service for genuinely delicious food, give it a shot. But be warned, the entire dining experience is almost certain to unfold with halting, almost laughable timing. Hard to believe they can't figure out that simply adding one more person (a busboy at $8/hour would do it) would transform the service to at least reasonable. Thus the true rating is 4/5 for food; damn near 0 for service. Always been this way, will never change. read more

Fiesta Hut is our favorite date night restaurant. Great Mexican food, it's consistent and out of all the date nights we've had the food has never deviated. Ambience- very casual, seems like it's all of the locals having dinner. Staff- always friendly. They seem to know everyone's name. They know my fiancé and my name and our special margarita order. So cool. They have the best margaritas. Food- we come here often, we don't need the menu. Everything tastes great, the mole sauce is the best I ever had. I recommend the beef enchilada with mole sauce. The guacamole is super fresh, can't eat enough of it. I love the California tacos and pork tostadas. If it's your first time just make a combo platter. It is family owned, the owner is so nice. We will keep coming here for date night. If you are ever in East Rutherford, NJ you have to stop by Fiesta Hut. Great food, great service, great staff! Like some of the other reviewers stated there is no sign out front. This place has been here for many years and seems to be going strong. Nicole b.'s review was dead-on. I pretty much felt the same way about this place. As I glanced over the menu, I thought the price of the combo plates were a bit high. The combo I had consisted of a taco, enchilada and tostada and cost $15. It would have been nice if they threw a scoop of rice or some salad with the entree. The food was good. The chicken in the enchilada was tasty as was the enchilada sauce, I was just expecting something more for that price. The service wasn't that great. It looked like there was just one waiter working. Our pitcher of soda didn't come until after the entrees came out. It was hard to get the waiter because he was going back and forth to the kitchen. Also took a while to get the check. So the food was good, but a bit pricey and no side dish came with it and the service was off. I guess I was expecting more from Fiesta Hut. read more

Not sure how I've never written about this place after all these years! This is Our #1 Mexican spot and our favorite date night restaurant. The ambiance and music is always on POINT (bands like buzzcocks, modern lovers etc) we absolutely love Mexican food but something about the way this restaurant prepares their food can't compare to the Mexican places in the area. It's always simple and fresh. We always start with the cheese crisps and nachos. And then any entree is incredible from the tacos to tostadas to burritos literally it's all amazing. My personal favorite meat is the beef. The service here is also wonderful! I feel like the waiters are a huge reason we keep coming back, they're super pleasant and attentive always. Fiesta Hut looks like a little hole in the wall but the food is really good. It is a tradition for my fiance's family. Before we started dating I had never heard of it, now I don't even need to see the menu to order. I'm not huge into Mexican but Fiesta Hut is probably my favorite. They start you off with chips and salsa that I am pretty sure is homeade. We always order a salad which is covered with two different shredded cheeses with oil & vinegar on the side. Then we get the nachos- they are the flat pizza-looking kind, not the piled high nachos. I usually get mine with peppers. All of the entrees are really good and the portions are pretty big. The place never really seems to be crowded which is good for us but hopefully they will survive. They aren't on the main street but over the train tracks so unless you know it's there you may miss it. Apparently the owner is also the waitress and has been there forever. I belive they open at 5pm because once we tried to go earlier and had to wait outside for a bit. read more

I am very surprised at the good reviews. We ordered take out months back and the food was flavorless and greasy. Last night I figured that I would give it another shot and try the food again, this time at the restaurant. The restaurant was very dirty and I should have turned around, but unfortunately I didn't. I ordered the grilled jalapeño with cheese and a side salad and my mom ordered the quesadilla. The chips at the table were stale and had no salt. The quesadilla was stuffed with what tasted like Kraft American slices. It really did! The jalapeño's had a layer of melted white, once again American, that had separated and had a layer of grease on top. The side salad came and no salad was visible as the shredded cheese was piled so high on it ( there was no mention of cheese in the description on the menu) way underneath there was a handful of shredded taco lettuce and a few tomatoes. We left after this and I was up at night with a stomach issue. If you want great Mexican in Rutherford, go to Azteca on Park. Skip this place. read more

This restaurant is wonderful. I'm not too sure about why the other reviews are not that great. I'll break this place down for you. Service: This isn't the type of place where you will be served on hand and foot. Its just a mom and her son, sometimes another waiter, that run the place. They are really nice, but mostly just laid back people. They're always walking around, but the environment is lax. This is a REAL Mexican joint. They run it that way. If you're looking for super bubbly waitresses coming up to you every 5 minutes, don't go here. I prefer service this way. Its a little bit slow, but you enjoy it more. Food: Delicious. I wouldn't go here if it wasn't. Its completely authentic. Its hot, spicy, and fresh. All of things you want your Mexican food to be. Their salsa is some of the best. I think if they bottled it and sold it, they would make a killing. The chipotle bbq and jalapeño peppers with the special cheese on top is one of my favorite dishes period. The chipotle BBQ peppers smell like smokey heaven. You can get pretty much any combination you want - burrito, taco, enchilada. Atmosphere: Laid back. This is like you're going to your friends mom's house, and she's going to cook you a bomb dinner. Nothing fancy, just some good food. I really suggest trying this place. 3 years later and I still love this little hole in the wall. Sorry if the service isn't the best but every time I come in it's only the mom and son running around serving every table in the restaurant. It's tough to run a business and maintain great staff members so you shouldn't knock them on what they have little control over. The staff they have work hard and the food reflects. The food is always tasty and cooked perfectly. The only thing that I could complain about is needing a drink refill and not receiving one throughout my entire meal but in the servers defense he was also waiting on a large party which was well over 15 people. I have not once been disappointed in the past 3 years with fiesta hut. Every meal I have ever had here has tasted the same and it was delicious. They do the best with what they have and I love this place always will! read more

My wife, parents and I recently stopped by on a Friday night for dinner at around 9pm. It took a few minutes before we saw the hostess/server which was a little surprising since there were only 3 or 4 occupied tables. When we were greeted it was with a smile by a very nice woman who showed us to our table. The complimentary chips and salsa were memorable only in that the portion size was awfully small for a party of two let alone our party of four. The salsa was tasty and the chips were fresh, though most likely from a bag. After quickly devouring the tiny bowl, we half-jokingly suggested to our server that she bring us 3 more bowls though she returned with just another equally small bowl (we did have to order a third). Though not on the menu, Fiesta Hut does have a limited selection of bottled beers including Tecate, Corona and the choice our server suggested, La Bohemia (it was a pretty light tasting lager...think Mexican Bud). I was hoping to start with a black bean soup but was told nicely, "sorry, we don't have black beans." Now, I'm not exactly sure if that meant they don't make black bean soup, were out of black bean soup or simply don't have black beans in the restaurant. I had the burritos, my wife ordered the taco-enchilada-tamal combo and my parents, who aren't very big eaters, decided to split an order of burritos (side note: this drew a comment from our server regarding the amount of chips we had eaten...if it was sarcasm, it wasn't obvious and we found it a bit off-putting). The entrees were flavorful and they do use quality meats. I did myself looking for a change of texture halfway through the meal. There are no sides served with the entree and the plate of lettuce, guacamole, tomato and rice for the table was about as small as the bowl of chips. After dinner, just as my wife and I were jokingly finalizing our Yelp review amongst ourselves, our hostess, who had gone from sweet to borderline rude at that point, pulled another 180 and presented us with some complimentary flan for the table. I've been lucky enough to travel quite a bit and I'm very much a flan-atic...and this certainly ranked right up there with some of the best I've had. It was rich but not too heavy, the custard was chilled perfectly and the caramel was sweet with a hint of butterscotch. Overall I'd say our Fiesta Hut experience was okay and I would consider going back to give it another shot. I found the prices a bit high considering the portion sizes and lack of sides with the entrees. I found this place walking home from the hair salon today. Being a huge fan of Mexican food I figured I had to try this restaurant. The exterior of the building is rustic. As I walked I walked into a bar area but no one was around. I walked j a little further to a dining area and WA stood to take any seat. I sat down for a quick meal. They brought me chips and salsa. The chips were ok and the salsa was a little sweet and very tomatoey. I did enjoy the chips and salsa but have definitely had better. I checked the menu which looked sort of Mexican sheep and worn even though it was laminated. I ordered the mole con pollo and a side of beans. My food was brought out. A decent amount of time. The disk was served well and the mole was very good. I wasn't hungry enough for any desert or appetizers. I will have to come back when I am hungrier. All and all this is a nice Mexican spot with friendly staff. Worth a try at least once. read more

I had the worst service I've ever experienced at this restaurant. The food is delicious, but I doubt I will ever return, unless it is to get take out. It's a small place, and we were there on a Saturday evening. We arrived when the restaurant was quieter, but as the place filled up, the service just got worse and worse. We were a group of three, sat at a much larger table, and after we had ordered and served our drinks, we were told a larger party was coming in, and asked if they could move us to another table. We're accommodating people, so we did so - and NO one proceeded to sit at the table that we were sat at for at least another hour! Water glasses were reluctantly offered and never refilled. The food took an extremely long time to come, but, once we did receive it, it was really good. I had the mole cheese enchiladas, and the mole sauce was delicious, and the food hot and well prepared. But the service was just awful, especially considering how small the restaurant is physically. Though I lived within walking distance of this restaurant for two years, I never went back. read more

No sign, No hostess, No problem. This place is awesome, the owners are so nice and welcoming. The food is cheap and absolutely delicious. It's obvious these recipes are family recipes. They've been open for 26 years in the same spot and there is no sign. A place that can survive 25 years without a sign and run by 2 people in the front, is amazing. The red sangria is fantastic, very fruity and served ice cold. We had the black bean soup, very smokey, all vegetarian and organic; the guacamole, very fresh, creamy and delicious; and one of the combination platters. The mole is very good and more than enough food for 2 people. Even though the service may be on the slow side for some, the ambiance is cool and relaxing, and the food is well worth the wait. read more
