Hands down the best authentic Mexico City food in Baltimore. Feels like your auntie's kitchen. The owner is super friendly and happily shares stories from his life if you catch him. We ordered the enchiladas, quesadillas & nachos... from the start they clearly forgot my order and made me re-wait then haphazardly threw together the order. They literally tossed entire whole-pieces of chicken thighs in the quesadillas & enchiladas (too busy to cut up meat I guess). Not to mention the chicken was bland and clearly had literally zero spice. The nachos were an embarrassment to nachos.... it was just a bunch of chips with barley shredded meat and a sprinkle of beans, and UNMELTED CHEESE... how the heck to call that nachos?!? If it wasn't for my friend Julie Odar taking me there on my birthday I would have never went! Anyways, we got their PaquetEduques platter which includes 2 enchiladas, 1 quesadilla, 1 flauta, 1 sope, and 1 taco for $16.50. I also order an extra beef and chorizo taco on top of that. The best Mexican food I've ever had. I have visited El Paso, TX and you can walk over the border there. Mexican food there is very good but I have found the best and it's in Rosedale, MD. I wish I lived closer to go here all the time. I got the sampler platter. I wanted to know what I might like best. I liked it all. I think the Tiquetos? Whey are my favorite. I don't know the names but I also don't know how to pick just one favorite! The restaurant isn't real big. Maybe 2 tables and 8 booths? The drinks are in a case for you to choose from. The food here is excellent, and for delivery (via third party) or carry out, if you want authentic Mexican food (as opposed to TexMex which is what you find most places), you'll be hard pressed to find better. However, I must recommend carryout or delivery over eating in. The restaurant service side needs some work. The waitress was cheerful enough but there were several training based problems: 1) After we were seated, the waitress waited quite a long time before visiting our table. This may have been because she was the only one covering about 10 tables. 2) Our entire order - drinks, appetizers and entrees, had to be ordered at the same time, as opposed to the customary tradition of getting drinks pretty quickly along with appetizers being ordered at the same time. 3) The two appetizers that we ordered (which were delicious) were brought out separately and quite some time apart. We weren't sure if we were even going to get our second appetizer. 4) We did not get silverware until the entrees were delivered. 5) If you know the menu, you know that you get 2 or 3 items of what you order and each one can be different. One of us ordered the Flautas, and there are three options, potato, chicken and beef. My companion said, "One of each" but got 3 beef. The waitress wasn't very fluent in English, and that's fine but she should have made sure she had the order correct by reading it back to us. So in short if you want great food and fairly unimpressive service, dine in. Otherwise - delivery or carry out is absolutely the way to go! (I recommend carry out because they do have a nice selection of assorted side items (chips, sodas, candy) that you can't find in many places that you have to buy at the counter). read more

Great little hole-in-the-wall spot on Philadelphia Road in Rosedale. If you blink you will miss it; it is located on the first floor of a single family home. The owner is awesome, a really nice man whom always makes you feel welcome; he remembers me every time I come in. As for the food, the tacos of all varieties are delicious, and I love the chicken enchiladas in the verde sauce. The owner will typically ask you if you have had the enchiladas before to find out if you need them spicy or mild. The spicy is terrific, not blow your head off hot but a building heat. If you are a light eater like me, you can get a really cheap dinner by going a la carte with one taco and an order of beans for around $4. Make sure to try the pambazo, a really tasty sub-like sandwich that I have not seen on any other menus, and the tres leches cake is good but super sweet. I tried the tostadas with spicy chicken recently and found them to be a bit salty for my taste, but the DBF really liked them. I also thought that the guacamole was pretty bland; it is a family recipe and has a big following, so it must just be my preference that I like more lime juice and jalapenos in mine (and I was missing the tomatoes in it too). I guess including diced tomatoes in dishes is not an authentic preparation for Mexican food since places like this never include them on tacos or enchiladas. If your fave Mexican joints are Don Pablo's and the like, you may not enjoy this place. It is very different from Americanized Mexican food, but it is delicious and truly authentic. The owner is from Mexico City and even imports the mole sauce from there, which is why it is not always available. Note that this is more of a carryout joint. There is very little parking, and only about five tables inside. You can also call ahead and they will have your order ready when you get there. read more

This is a gem of delicious Mexican food hidden in the middle of nowhere (with very little parking). I lived in Texas for over 8 years and grew up in California, so I know my Mexican food (as well as the difference between Mexican and Tex-Mex!). This was really the best Mexican food that I've found in Baltimore yet -- and could rival some restaurants in Texas and California. It was delicious. Huge portion sizes, bursting with favor, made from two sweet grandmothers that spoke in Spanish while cooking. The place isn't much to look at -- it's very very small but the food is so worth it. My friend had the mole enchiladas, not too sweet but just sweet enough. I had the enchiladas -- think of the spicy chicken and potato still has me drooling right now. Walking in, sitting down and eating food here reminds me of being in south Texas. The enchiladas were homemade corn tortillas bathed in a well balanced salsa verde (fresh, citrusy and not bitter) then stuffed with shredded chicken. It was topped with fresh white onion, lots of cilantro and queso fresco. So good! The Pambazo was a great surprise! A chili dusted roll is grilled and then stuffed full with potatoes, chorizo and topped with shredded lettuce and crema fresca. It was filling and tasty. This would be great for breakfast, too. All is well when you end a meal well...the tres leches cake was dense and moist with milk and cream. The cake was topped with a lightly sweet frosting - a perfect tres leches cake. The owner was super friendly and actually a transplant from Mexico City. All the food is made to order and fresh. You might have to wait just a bit, but good food is worth waiting for. The restaurant doesn't have a lot of parking and the inside has about 3 tables, so you can carry out. It doesn't get my ambiance and cleanliness award, but it does get my high accolades for true, authentic Mexican flavors and food. read more

Yum! I've been in Baltimore for almost a year now and only just tried this place. Regrettably, this is my last week here before I return back north but I'm still glad I got to try it before I go. After reading the countless yelp reviews, I decided to order the pambazo as well as sopes, one with the roasted poblano peppers and the other with chorizo. The owner asked me if I'd tried either of the dishes before and I told him that I'd had sopes before and he said that he was glad to have a challenge and hoped that his dishes were better than ones I'd tried... And they were! The sopes were really good and fresh and amazing. I could definitely taste the corn in the dough and the toppings were so fresh. The lettuce added a nice crunch, the queso fresco was salty and soft, and whatever white sauce he drizzled on top (maybe crema fresca?) was so good. I wasn't overwhelmed by the amount of raw onions either; it was awesome. I also loved the spicy salsa verde, though I wish it was just a little spicier. The pambazo was a new experience and I really enjoyed it. The texture of the bread was interesting and I loved the crisp exterior. The potatoes and chorizo were really flavorful and the portion size was pretty generous. I also took a tres leche cake for dessert, which was also pretty delicious, though the top of it was a little dry. I was hoping the whole thing would be dripping with milk. I took my whole meal to go; this isn't really a place I'd want to sit down and dine. It feels slightly grimy and the air smells like the frying oils (which is probably the reason for the griminess as well). Overall, a great experience, from the food to the staff. read more

This place is our very favorite Mexican restaurant in the state of Maryland. I've had Mexican food in Mexico, and there is no better Mexican authentic food place around- I've tried many. Their queso fundido (melted cheese) & chorizó is incredible (and real) not the runny stuff. The tortillas taste homemade (not sure if they are) but they are very good. Their green hot sauce is the perfect amount of spice. The flautas are delightful, Taco's are yummy, and everything else we've tried on the menu never disappoints. Dessert tres leches is my go-to. A soft, and milky cake with a delicious thick, whip cream-like frosting. The service is always friendly. Anyway, If you're looking at the menu and are unsure about what to get, you should go for the... ...Paquet Eduques, aka the sampler. A large white plate filled with: -Enchiladas ( I recommend the Mole if it is available, I just went yesterday and to my dismay they didn't have it but, the owner told me he was getting a plane ticket to Mexico to pick some up so I will return soon enough to get my fix.) -Quesadilla , which I got with the Tinga de pollo the very delicious spicy chicken. -Flautas, the crispy rolls filled with Res -Sope, oh so good topped with Chorizo and last but not least, -Taco, which was fantastic and full of Carnitas. We have been coming here over the last several years and witnessed this restaurant transform from a one room kitchen/eating area to a full fledged Mexican restaurant. Have you ever gone on a first date and been so "over the moon" in love that you wondered whether it was real or just the heat of the moment? That's how I felt after my first visit to Fiesta Mexicana. Why was I so charmed by this restaurant, its friendly, passionate owner, and its authentic Mexican food? Would I feel differently when the newness wore off? Well, now I have visited Fiesta Mexicana a second time. Federico (the owner) wasn't there. I ate something different. And I'm still in love. Mexican food is a touchy subject for me. Although it can be delicious, what most Americans think of as Mexican food is not authentic. It has some Mexican ideas, but has been adapted to American tastes and ingredients. I talked to Federico about this: his theory is that most Mexican restaurateurs don't think what they ate at home is all that special. Instead, they end up serving what they think their customers will like (which tends to be just like what everyone else is serving.) Federico is very proud of his culture and its cuisine. As I talked to him, he mused as to why when Americans mention "fine" cuisine, they usually mean French or Italian (although in 2010, UNESCO recognized Mexican cuisine as representative of the "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity"). At Fiesta Mexicana, every ingredient and method is carefully considered. My first visit to Fiesta Mexicana was a couple of weeks ago, with my sister. She searched Yelp, and found that Fiesta Mexicana had a really high rating. I was skeptical, since I don't think most folks would recognize real Mexican food if they fell into a vat of it. Loving my sister, I agreed to go. I am so glad I did! (Sorry for doubting you, fellow Yelpers!) Sis and I agreed that we would order and share Fiesta Mexicana's biggest combination platter (11 items!). After talking with Federico, I knew that I really liked and respected him, so rather than specifying what fillings to use, I just asked him to build the platter for us. When the food came, my sister and I were in ecstasy! Each bite was more delicious than the one before it. I have traveled in Mexico, and lived in California, and I would rank Fiesta Mexicana's food among the best I have had anywhere. My second visit to Fiesta Mexicana, I tried a Pambazo. What's a Pambazo? It's a torta's saucier sister from Mexico City. First they brush a big roll with guajillo sauce (not spicy, but very flavorful.) Then, they grill the saucy roll until it's a little crispy on the outside. They split the roll, and fill it with chorizo, potatoes, lettuce, queso fresco, and crema. You can add salsa for heat. Yum! Although it's a 45-minute trek from where I live, Fiesta Mexicana is worth the drive! I plan to be a regular there. read more

This place is fresh, delicious, and unlike anything I've ever had. I came here on the recommendation of several friends, and I think I'm forever indebted to them for sharing this gem! If this is your first time here, I highly suggest you try their combo platter, which the chef will happily customize to your tastes and preferences. My personal favorites from my first trip include: Enchiladas (with salsa verde)- Best I've ever had in my life. I wish I could have tried the mole sauce the chef sometimes brings back from Mexico, but no such luck this time. Pambazo- aka Pacman sandwich! This is a roll brushed with salsa, grilled, and filled with chorizo, potatoes, cheese, and goodness knows what other addictive substances :p. Tres Leches- I think I died and went to heaven with this one. I haven't had a decent Tres Leches since moving from Miami so I can see myself coming here for this cake alone.
