$6 to Leave a Tip?! I really wanted to like this spa. It has great reviews, a convenient location... what could go wrong? Well, apparently everything at the front desk. When I walked in, the receptionist just stared at me like I was interrupting her very important work of doing absolutely nothing. No "hi," no "welcome," not even a nod. Not the warmest start, but okay, I came for relaxation, not charm school. Thankfully, my massage therapist was a dream. I was ready to float out the door until I reached the front desk again. I told the receptionist I didn't have cash for a tip and asked if I could Venmo. Nope. Then came the kicker: you can use a credit card but there's a $6 flat fee. Not 6%. Six actual, American dollars. For a $20 tip, that's a 30% surcharge! For comparison, most businesses charge a modest 2-4% fee. This felt less like a tip and more like a penalty. Another woman checking out at the same time didn't have cash either and got the same spiel. She sighed, shrugged, and paid the fee too...misery loves company, I guess. To top it off, once I paid, the receptionist didn't even say thank you. She just grimaced. Bottom line: Fantastic massage, but the front desk vibe and tip gouging left a sour taste. Got a Groupon for a 60min massage of my choice and was able to easily call in and get an appointment for a convenient time. Based on Yelp reviews I asked to have Yuri, since there was a bunch of reviews that mentioned her. When you go in, it's a very zen like atmosphere and the front desk receptionists are super friendly. I was immediately given ginger tea and also a basket with slippers to change into. While I sat with my tea, someone asked what type of massage I wanted and offered 3 different scents/oils. I went with a deep tissue because of all the knots I have and opted for the lavender scent I believe. After sipping my tea, Yuri greeted me and took me to the room. I told Yuri where I was carry some tension and she went to work. She was amazing with working out the knots and kinks, so many that I didn't even know I had. She applied just the right amount of firm pressure that I needed without me wincing in pain. When she massaged my legs, it was so good that I started drifting off into sleep. That's how relaxing it was!! The scalp massage was also amazing. The entire massage was just what I needed. I left feeling like all of my kinks were gone and also feeling super relaxed and refreshed. Don't usually write reviews, but this was such a uniquely awful experience that I feel compelled. Hands down the worst massage I've ever received. I paid for a 60 minute treatment and received 50 minutes. They require a full body covering with a disgusting pilled sheet which is more like a well used blanket. I asked for a deep tissue massage and the masseuse appeared to have no training as the experience was more akin to an awkward petting. Not once did the masseuse ask for feedback during the massage. I paid the host $120 and received a smirk as if I was being cheap and she didnt say a word as a left. Have you ever left a spa after a massage and immediately thought to yourself "I need a massage"? I came here for a prenatal massage last week. It was a gift (a groupon) and was my first prenatal massage. Whenever I had seen images of prenatal massage or heard my friends raving about them, they mentioned that while laying on their side for the massage there was a support pillow placed under their belly. No support pillow here. Although I wanted stronger pressure on my back, whenever the masseuse applied any pressure my belly was being pushed into the table. While laying on my left side I ended up wrapping my right arm around myself to brace myself and support my own belly.. making it pretty hard to get comfortable and to relax. Vice versa when I was asked to lay on my right side. As for the massage itself, it did absolutely nothing for me. I found it really unnecessary for him focus like 8 minutes on each calf then 10 seconds on the foot. All of the motions on my legs and back were like smooth sweeping motions. Not my type of massage, glad I didn't pay for it. He asked me to lay on my back then he stood behind me and started on my collarbone - didn't feel good. He started rubbing my temples which also did not feel good at all, it just felt like he was messing up my hair. The space seems peaceful and they bring you hot tea and a warm towel before and after the session...but...that just doesn't cut it. My partner and I each had coupons for massage. I had a foot massage, she had a Thai massage. Ironically we had similar experiences from our different...practitioners. We just felt like they had no training. There was no symmetry for what was done on one side of the body and the other. The woman who worked on me didn't speak English so she really had a hard time understanding when I said something was uncomfortable; she was stroking the top of my foot repeatedly and it didn't hurt like I needed to scream, it was just weird. I've had a lot of foot massages...I had to check to see before I left if she actually did have feet because it was just a really unusual thing to do to one's foot. Where we live you can get a Thai or foot massage for $25/50-minutes. And they're good! This was more than that even with the coupon. read more

Love this spa! I had to call many places (as many as 6) to finally find this place and get an appointment that wasn't three months out. They were able to book my groupon massage that same week and on the weekend at that! I was greeted with ginger tea and a warm towel upon arrival. I switched out of my shoes and I was ready for my massage. The massage was good. I felt a lot of my knots kneaded out however the male masseuse seemed distracted at times, spending 10+ minutes on my leg..... I had to say something to get him to move on and focus on other areas. Got to try out this spa located in the heart of midtown Manhattan (next to the Chanel store). Make sure you call in ahead and make a reservation before you head to the spot. Once you arrive you are welcomed with a warm cup of ginger tea and room temp water. They also have a survey to make sure you are ok to receive the best service; type of massage (light, medium, or hard) what type of allergies you might have, any specific pain, any surgery you had in the past. The rooms are beautifully decorated with Thai arts and sculptures. Music is very relaxing for a spa and soothes the ear. I had Yuri as my masseuse, she was very good. The massage was very relaxing and attentive to detail 1hr passed by so fast i wished I had another 30 min lol. Definitely recommend this place and I'm definitely coming back. Not the best traditional Thai massage I received but still very good! I love Thai massages for all the hardcore pressures and stretchings! I had Yuri (?)Yumi (?) work on me and she was awesome! Wish she would've work on my foot bit more but i guess I'll just have to get a food massage separately. Traditional Thai massage doesn't usually take place on a massage table since masseuse usually go on top of the person laying down and put pressure with their feet. The male therapist didn't really get in there and the stretching was NOT at ALL adequate. In addition...massage oils should be specific to client needs. So while they have choices- they did NOT have an option that Specifically worked on muscles- those always have a slightly minty scent and arnica for repair...This allows the therapist to work Synergistically with the pressure to get muscle and knot release more effectively. I had a good massage, the pressure was right for me and the place is clean. However I think the front desk receptionist can improve. When it came time to paying, I added a 20% tip however I was charged an additional $10 because the receptionist claims she heard me wrong. I asked for a cash refund but she couldn't refund cash, instead she voided my transaction and then charged me again. So basically I was charged twice today for my massage, and I have to wait to be refunded which my bank told me could take up to 30 days. LOVED this place! Found it on Groupon and I was really impressed. Is a beautiful, serene space that feels like a high end spa. They give you ginger tea and a moist towel when you come in, and I thought the way they handled Groupon/promotions was actually classy. She checked us in and politely asked if we'd be using any promotions, we said yes we have Groupons and she took down the details quickly before we went into our massage room. I felt it was an extra nice touch to not have to deal with that little detail after my massage. My boyfriend had a Thai massage and I had a deep tissue. We both thought the massages were EXCELLENT. The therapists are clearly well trained. Mine found knots I didn't even know I had and really worked them out. Removed 2 stars because I paid for a 90 minute massage and got only a 70 minute massage. I asked if they time you from the moment you enter the spa or the moment you begin the massage. They said from the minute you walk into the massage room. But if that's the case, I'm still missing 19 minutes worth of massaging as it only took me 30 seconds to get undressed. You feel like you've been transported from the concrete jungle to the Southeast Asian oasis. Groupon was accepted without issue + tax & tip (added-on after your session)- just to keep expectations in check before going in. The first time calling to make a reservation was tough because it was around Valentine's Day week so they were overwhelmingly busy. The receptionist sounded stressed and quickly said she would call me back (she didn't), which was fine because a later appointment worked out better anyway. I called again a few days later to make an appt on a later date. There was availability and they were willing to accommodate. The Groupon allowed for you to choose any type of massage you'd like, so I opted for the Deep Tissue since I had some serious knots that needed to be addressed (was so tempted to try the Thai Massage, but I suppose another time...) Its on the 4th Fl of an elevator building sandwiched between Burberry and Chanel...on a clearly fancy block. When you arrive into the check-in area, ginger tea and a warm towel is served to you as you change out of your shoes into slippers (aka old navy flip flops lol). You can select the fragrance of your massage oil too- that was pretty awesome. My masseuse was strong, as I'd requested. She was professional and the entire massage was on point because she was keen on working out the kinks on my back/shoulders. They are very professional and nice, and the massage rooms are the most beautiful massage rooms I have ever seen! I meant to take a picture, oops! The massage therapist I had was very good. I tried a Thai massage for the first time, and would highly recommend if you weren't stiff and tight like I currently am. This was such a disappointing experience. My girlfriend took me to get a manicure and pedicure as a surprise. This place looked like it could deliver. It was nice, clean, serene, gentle Asian music playing, expensive massage chairs, etc. The woman doing my feet seemed to be doing a good job but I noticed she never touched the heel of my foot. I didn't say anything because I'm not a pedicure expert so I just figured she was going to address it later in the process. But...once she put the final coat on my toes she pulled my pants legs down and had me get up so I could get my manicure, I sensed something was wrong. She did a decent job with the manicure and then put me under the dryer thingy for both my feet and my hands. At this point I got a little concerned because I may not be a foot expert but I figured the heel would need addressing before this process. I officially knew something was wrong when she handed me my shoes and socks to put on. I looked down at my heel and all I could see was dead skin. So much in fact, all I had to do was rub it with my finger and it would come off. I called my girlfriend over and asked her, "is this right?" Needless to say she was PISSED. She addressed the lady with this and was told, "we don't have the razor for the heel." The lady then came over to me to say the same thing and then asked if I wanted to put lotion on my heel. HUH??? She didn't even offer to take the dead skin off. Like I said, at this point I'm totally baffled as to what I'm supposed to do so I told her if lotion was my only option then go for it. So, she proceeded to rub lotion over the dead skin on my heel. Here is the kicker, when my girlfriend went to pay she was then asked about a $20 tip! Are you serious???!!! I've only had my feet done at a spa maybe a few other times but I've never heard of doing 75% of a person's foot and then expecting them to be satisfied with that and paying and tipping you for it too! Needless to say, that didn't go down and we walked out totally dissatisfied and disgusted. I tried to make my girlfriend feel better because she did purchase this pampering for me, but she was still pissed that her gift wasn't executed with more professionalism and courtesy. See, this is the thing everyone else beside Black Afrikan people will NOT understand. Whenever you hear about a business or service and you get these rave reviews about how great it is, you can just go by the reviews and know that 9 times out of 10 if you go to that same business and service you will experience that same treatment if you are not a Black Afrikan person. BUT...if you are...when you look at the reviews you have to first factor into your decision process how many Black Afrikan people have experienced the service because if you are naive enough to think you can just walk into the same place as anyone else and be treated the same you will be in for a rude awakening. It sucks that in this day and age the color of our skin is used as a license to disrespect us when we are holding the same if not MORE money than anyone else when we enter into an establishment. So not a lot of people have done reviews and I was a little scared after reading the first review. I received a groupon for a Thai Massage for my bday so I had no choice but to check it out. Since the review above was really bad I decided to not have high expectations for this place. Once I stepped in I was greeted by a friendly woman who got me seated, took my jacket and shoes, as well as gave me some wonderful ginger tea. I filled out the sheet and waited to get into my room. Let me tell you that I have had Thai massages in Asia including Thailand. So my expectations of a good massage are high. After a couple min's i was shown to my room. I was a little surprised that it wasn't a bed which usually is typical for Thai Massages. So I was a little skeptical of what was going to happen next. I changed into my pj clothes that they provided and laid flat on my stomach. This is one of the reasons why I gave this place 3 stars. It wasn't the massage and it wasn't the cleanliness of the place. It was the fact that the room was separated by a fake wall that was so thin that I could hear other clients next to me. So when they were asked questions I didn't know if it was my masseuse or theirs. It was reasonably quiet after the first 5 min BUT I'm assuming if they had a louder client next to me that they would annoy me. ALSO, it seemed like I could hear music from other places in the room as well, which makes me believe that the walls in general are super thin. That really took away from the RELAXING part of my massage. However overall the massage was really done well. At some points it was a little painful but I'm also not one for too much pain. After she was done I got dressed and when I walked out my jacket and shoes were on the chair waiting for me along with my ginger tea. When I spoke to the woman to give my tip and pay tax, she seemed nice and didn't push me to give a specific amount of tip and didn't really ask me how much i was paying. She thanked me and I got my stuff and left. I didn't have a bad experience here I just think that it's not as quiet and relaxing as I would of like it. I purchased a package through Groupon, wanted to try out this place. I'm always a fan of Thai massage. This place is located right by Central Park and the shopping district. Very easy to find. Or if you need a relaxing massage after a whole day of shopping it's a great place to go. It's very easy to set up appointment. And I came in, they prepared a towel and a cup of tea while I was filling out the form. I chose their signature massage which is a combination of Thai massage and Swedish massage, oil massage and stretching combined. I was asked to choose the oil of my choice. Paul was my therapist because I requested a male who can do it stronger. His service is very good and the entire massage didn't try to upscale other services, let me get to relax. The price is a bit high but I guess it's because of the location, but for the service it worth every penny. If they had more promotion I would definitely go back more often. read more

She said that the other therapists are very good as well, so we went for it. The spa is very nice and clean. My husband and I booked a one year anniversary massage here through Travelzoo and to our delight, we had a great experience. Upon arrival, the ambiance was inviting - scent and sound. The only thing was there wasn't anyone to greet us but we yelled "hello" a bit louder and someone came running. While we were asked to fill out a form of basic info and massage needs we were given hot honey & ginger tea as well as water. We didn't know exactly what type of massage we wanted so asked for a rundown of the options and quickly agreed on the "Signature Massage" which was a combo of Thai + Swedish Oils (great choice!!!). We were quickly escorted to our couples massage room (two rooms with an open connecting door) where we were asked to disrobe and given pre-packaged underwear to put on. Oh, I felt pretty damn fancy when I entered. I've sometimes run into the experience where if you mention you have a Groupon, you feel like you're getting subpar service. I came at a quieter time (mid-Sunday) so I was seen right away. They're flexible with appointment times as well. I wish massages lasted forever. I'm pretty sure I was in some dreamy, sleepy trance for the whole hour. I opted for the sports therapy massage as I do a lot of high-impact cardio work-outs and HIIT training and it actually helped relieve my shin splints and aches. I was taken to the massage room and Ning was awesome. She relieved the tension in my back and shoulders. Yes, I got my full hour and didn't want it to end. I ended up buying gift certificates and would definitely come back with my mom. Plus they only tax you $5.40 unlike some other places that tax more.
