My husband and I went on a tour after meeting fifth street distillery at a local fundraiser for the Beardsley zoo. They give tours every Saturday from 3-4 at their location in Bridgeport. The family team is very friendly and goes over the entire process of how the alcohols are made and shows you and in depth tour of the facility. The best part of the tour is all the taste testing you get to do. They allow you to try everything they make and even mix mini cocktails to show you had to use certain liquors. The quality of the vodka is amazing along with the bourbon and gin. We left with purchasing a few bottles along with a t shirt. Bridget and Rob, the couple that own this distillery are THE BEST! It's not hard to see why this place has five stars on Yelp. A couple friends and I came for a tour and tasting on a Saturday, and although our res was at 3pm, we ended up making the 2pm (Bridget was so nice and accommodating of the change in our time). It's a bit hard to find, but make sure you enter the Asylum Street address, and buzz at the green entrance door! We had a great time with Rob leading our tour and giving us a lot of info on the distillery process/Bridget leading our tasting. They gave us a tasting of all 14 offerings and also a bottle of water. I ended up walking away with 9 travel bottles! I also loved the cocktails they created with their liquor (the cider and cinnamon vodka mix was my favorite). We had such an enjoyable time, and we learned a lot! Would absolutely recommend that folks visit this distillery and support this local business! read more

My fiancé and I stopped by this distillery on a Saturday afternoon in August during COVID and were happy to find that they were open for free tastings! The owners Rob and Bridget were incredibly hospitable and friendly. They welcomed us like guests into their home and proceeded to giving us samples of almost every one of their products. My favorite was the Cranberry Mule cocktail they made with their ginger zap vodka. What a great cocktail for the summer! Rob was also kind enough to give us a private tour of their distillery and a quick chemistry lesson. I bought a bottle of their cocktail to go and they even threw in a few free samples of their other liquors. All in all, what a great experience in the middle of nowhere in Bridgeport! I highly recommend visiting this place to anyone looking for something to do during the quarantine. read more

This distillery is a MUST TRY! The owners of 5th State Distillery are the most gracious people I've had the pleasure of meeting in Bridgeport. Robert is extremely knowledgeable about the distillation process, history, and flavor profiles of the myriad of high-quality spirits he produces. I was excited to see that they produce 4 different award-winning gins, as gin is my favorite spirit! My girlfriend and I were so excited to come taste the gins, along with a few unique options you just can't find anywhere else (the Orangecello and Wonderful Water were fantastic!) Needless to say, we left thoroughly impressed! We will absolutely be back for a tour and tasting in the future, and enjoyed buying tons of the 50mL bottles as stocking stuffers for the holidays in California this season. read more

My wife and I were looking for something inexpensive to do for the weekend and decided to take a tour at the Asylum Distillery. You need to call ahead and make a reservation and the tour costs $20. The location of the distillery would remind you, if you can imagine, of going to a speak easy during prohibition. The entrance is located between two buildings, down an alley and when you get to the door you must ring the doorbell to gain entry. Once inside, there are plenty of samples to try, whiskey, vodka, gin, moonshine, and some of their mixed cocktails. The tour of the distillery is a lot of fun and done well. There is trivia, history, explanation of the distilling process and more samples! I'm a bourbon guy and enjoyed the maple whiskey. So much so, I bought one to take home. I highly recommend a visit, it's a lot of fun and a great way to support a local business. read more

One Saturday my husband and I decided to book a tour. Our tour guides were the owners, Robert and Bridget. The tour itself was about an hour and ended in a tasting of their different spirits. One of the owners is actually an engineer and took the time to explain to us some of the more nuanced aspects of the distilling process. I learned quite a bit about the infusion of flavors, the experimentation and art of distilling. While the whole operation is small, you get a sense that Robert and Bridget really know what they are doing. You also hear in their voices and see on their faces the absolute passion and dedication that they have for their craft. I am not a gin fan, however I LOVED their gin.  I usually find gin to be very bland or overpowering with the herbal elements. Theirs was very smooth and we ended up buying two bottles. Their vodka was also excellent. Robert and Bridget were enthusiastic and made our experience fun and engaging.  The local quality vodka and gin were a hidden gem I am glad we found.  I highly recommend taking a tour! read more

Amazing!! Really enjoyed the tour! I didn't realize there was so much involved in making a great bottle of alcohol! The different flavors were amazing and very intuitive. Mixing flavors or creating flavors was very exciting to watch! Great team! Husband/wife combination as well as partnerships they have with thier closes friends son, created an amazing team dynamics!! We picked a few bottles of our favorite spirits and cant wait to share them with family and friends during the holidays!! I recommend this tour to anybody looking to enhance thier knowledge in the alcohol making business or just a fun evening to enjoy with friends, in a group, or that perfect date night!! They let us sample any and all of their products which were all amazing. They gave us a tour of the place and showed us how they make their products. We were looking for something to do on a rainy day and stumbled upon Asylum. We all enjoy craft spirits and have been to a few distillerys in the past. Before we even walked in the door, we were greeted outside by Rob. He immediately went into tour mode and the passion he had for the craft was apparent. The operation is not big at all but he took us through all of the steps and told us what they do and why. We then moved over to the tasting bar where we met Bridget and Neil, who were equally as cordial. As we tasted the spirits, we talked more about the process, how they got started, their operations, etc. We tasted 4 spirits; vodka, gin, white whiskey, and aged whiskey. All spirits are distilled from corn. As previously mentioned, we have been to distillerys before and I have to say I really enjoyed all of their spirits. The white whiskey was really good, no burn at the end. Unfortunately, they did not have any aged whiskey in bottles available, but we purchased the other three. I guess that just gives me an excuse to go back. read more
