I am still shocked at the bad reviews for this restaurant! I went today and still LOVE it. The dim sum options were amazing--everything from shrimp dumplings to hot pepper and shrimp and bean buns-we also ordered the lobster from the menu, a noodle dish, a caserole and some veggies--everything was wonderful! It is a bit chaotic there, especially when it is busy, so you have to be patient and wait to find a waiter if you want to order food that is not part of the Dim Sum. I have yet to have a bad dish there-always leave satisfied and the management is very friendly and nice as well. This is 100% my top pick for Flushing and I have introduced others to this restaurant and they love it as well. read more

Lucked out on the day I went: no wait, immediate service, and had all the dim sum dishes laid out in front of us within five minutes. One of the few places that I still know has dim sum carts. The one dish I'd absolutely get again is the lau sha bao that was also a cross with a bolo bao. Dishes were better than some other dim sum places I've had in Flushing, so no complaints here. Went here for an early dinner with a group of eight. The food was good, depending on the dish. We were seated immediately, but were only given two menus for our group. We ordered the lobster salad, peking duck, tofu and mushrooms, house special fried rice, and the braised eggplant. We tried to order a fish dish, but the did not have the fish available. I was surprised to see that the lobster salad was mostly melon and a lot of mayonnaise on top and not too much lobster. Came here for a Saturday banquet luncheon recently (during dim sum hours) and the food was just OK. As expected for any dim sum restaurant, it was absolutely jam PACKEEEED on a Saturday morning/afternoon inside of decent size establishment. I didn't get to try the dim sum as our large party was here for a luncheon, but boy I was craving it from seeing all of the dim sum carted around inside. We had numerous banquet-style entrees come out (quite quickly) during our time here. Entrees that we were served included a soup to start, cold platter (consisting of roast pig and jellyfish), prawn with walnuts andnc, steamed chicken with ginger and scallion, Buddha's Delight, fried milk, steamed live fish, lobster with ginger and scallion, young chow fried riice and probably a few other dishes I'm forgetting. At the end, most of the food was good - including the soup, cold platter, mayonnaise shrimp and lobster. However, there were a few dishes which were also quite ordinary and flat, like the fried rice and chicken. Surprisingly, the fried rice had no flavor at all and was quite plain. Service was decent throughout and we were in and out in 2 hours. Definitely would love to come back to try the dim sum as my review is exclusively just for the large entrees. FYI, they have a valet parking lot on the side of the restaurant that is free. If you're not into valet, then there are PLENTY of metered parking spots in front of the restaurant. Came with a party of 12 for dinner a couple weekends ago, Saturday 7:30pm. Would recommend! One of my friends called in advance to make sure there were seats and upon arrival our party was seated right away. For dinner they have an extensive menu of mostly Southern Chinese banquet-style dishes good for sharing. My friends ordered for the table before I got there so I'm not exactly sure what the names are each dish were, though I will say the cooking was terrific and the flavors on the dot. Portions were good for the prices. General run down: - appetizer - roasted salted peanuts: pretty standard Chinese restaurant peanuts - appetizer - brined and steamed chicken feet: i didn't try this though a couple friends who did enjoyed them. Believe this was complimentary since I saw other tables with plates too. - stir-fried pea shoots: solid, fresh and glad the leaves were not too old. - sautéed green beans with pickled radish: yummm, that bit of salty and sour goes well with the crunch of the green beans. - Peking pork chop: sweet and sour sauce, deep fried goodness. - beef and broccoli: tender beef, well cooked broccoli, was impressed this was well flavored without being too saucy or salty. - steamed fish: a traditional staple, mildly flavored with ginger, scallions. - Singaporean style seafood noodles: a group favorite, crisp noodles, generous seafood (fish, calamari, shrimp, scallop) with sauce poured over. - steamed chicken with scallion and ginger: another traditional dish, I didn't try this. - deep fried (insert protein here): Soo I didn't try this one and I also couldn't tell what it was haha, see pic. - congee with fish filets: good flavor for a simple dish, lots of pieces of a white fish with thin slivers of ginger, scallion and radish. - walnut shrimp: ordered but didn't get served, good thing they didn't charge us for it. - red bean with black rice sweet soup: complimentary dessert from the restaurant, a good ending to a delicious meal. Fresh orange slices also provided. Service was pretty attentive, came by multiple times or were easy to flag down to order rice, more food, get the check. They also didn't rush us to leave even though we were the last party in the restaurant at closing. Parking is available via valet in the parking lot adjacent the restaurant, $3 cash "tip" is required. My friend tried to tip $2 and was told by the attendant $3 was the min. Food: I've tried a little of everything in the pictures I've attached below. My favorite dish that I've ordered was the Sautéed Fresh Mushroom & Egg Tofu because they literally cook it right after you place the order. It was hot and the taste of it was so flavorful. I loved the softness of the mushrooms and the comforting effect that the egg tofu provided. Everything else is similar to most typical dimsum places I've tried. I do like the char siu baos; they didn't overdo with the meat and the buns were so fluffy and soft. The durian pastry was warm, not too sweet, and yummy!! Not a lot of people like durian, but for the people who do love durian, this is a must try dessert. Service: The Asian aunties were nice and friendly. When I asked them what certain things were, they explained them to me. The male server refilled our tea frequently and was very attentive. The people with white button downs (I'm assuming they are managers?) were also very helpful. I had a menu in my hands and without me asking, one of the managers(?) saw my interest and listened to what I wanted. Ambiance: It was very busy! We went on Saturday at 11:30AM for a brunch meal. They offered us to sit near the front door location but we felt more comfortable sitting more inwards because we felt we would have more access to a variety of different carts and better service. Newly opened in the Flushing area (more on the outskirts I.e northern blvd area), Fifty Bay tries to be innovative by adding elements to the classics. This can be seen by adding bits of abalone on top of Shumai, adding a bread dish with cheese inside and coloured shrimp rice rolls. Had dinner here on a weekend night and they sure get busy. The food here is really good and has great wok hey. The razor clams were delicious and they gave you lots of pepper and onion that was cooked perfectly. The only down side here is it's really loud. The interior decor does not have anything soft so the noise just bounces around. I felt like I had to speak loudly just to have a conversation with people in my small table of 4. We went there at 2pm on Saturday after the peak hours, so most dim sums we got weren't hot enough... I looked forward to trying the green tea salted egg yolk bun but it was meh. The green tea flavor didn't stand out, and there weren't enough lava fillings imo. It was indeed less greasy than regular salted egg yolk bun so still worth a try. Only the egg tarts were fresh out of oven, but the custard part was bland and the shell wasn't flaky. The black sesame balls were cold so the crust was no longer crispy. Overall, good food but service to be desired! Went here on a Friday and the place was packed! We made reservations for 11 and was sat promptly. From there, it felt like the staff was over worked with the number of patrons. Took a while to order and then the food that came out took much longer than we would have liked. I've visited this restaurant a few times for family gatherings and I wasn't very impressed by the food. It's very average Cantonese food, nothing I'd write home about. it's nice they have a private room downstairs for large parties but that's about it. I love that there's finally a dimsum place in Murray Hill area. This place was decent when it first opened. They had flavorful dimsum and even had roast meats. They no longer have roast meats. Now the food is subpar. Sometimes we get cooked dishes to go because it's close, but it's really bad. Something is off with the flavors. It tastes salty yet bland at the same time. I can't seem to pinpoint it. They also messed up a few orders before, but they quickly fixed it. The parking lot is just an open space with pebbles. Avoid it if you can because they charge for parking. I have no pictures of their food because it's not worth it. The ambience is what you expect from a Chinese dimsum restaurant. There are fishtanks with live fish in front. A small takeout area on the right side of the restaurant. It was pretty uncomfortable where we were seated a few times because we were seated in the back on the left. Apparently there's a private area behind the stage where they also have tables. Food was average -- nothing special, but our experience might have been affected by our timing. We came here a little after 1pm, and it was still very busy, but a lot of the food we got was cold/lukewarm. We tried the spring rice rolls, steamed shrimp dumplings, pineapple BBQ pork buns, snow mountain oatmeal buns, spare pork ribs, lotus wrapped sticky rice, and pan-fried chive dumplings. I liked how for the most part, the food wasn't overly sweet or salty. Everything tasted alright, but the temperature of the food was just not ideal. - The pineapple roast pork buns were good -- both the bun and filling were not too sweet, and the buns were soft and fresh. - The snow mountain oatmeal bun wasn't bad either (also not too sweet). The bun and eggy cream was cold though, which I didn't mind, but we weren't sure if it was supposed to be chilled like that. - The pan-fried chive dumplings tasted good too, but the plate we got was already cold. It was pretty greasy, but I like that it had a lot of shrimp in the filling and that the skin wasn't so thick. - The shrimp rice rolls we got were lukewarm. I didn't like it as much because there was too much rice paper and not enough shrimp. - I only tried a little bit of the spare pork ribs and lotus wrapped sticky rice, but I thought they both tasted good. The servers are nice. I've been to busy dim sum spots where servers would just be dismissive and rude, but no one here was like that, despite how busy they were. Great place for Dim Sum! We came here on Sunday during lunch time for dim sum. We had a large group and had to get split up between 2 tables which were right next to each other. We got seated pretty quickly. However, soon afterwards the wait got longer and longer and the restaurant was pretty busy. The food was great! The dishes were nicely flavored, but not over bearing and not too oily. They had a lot of unique takes on dim sum dishes and desserts. The food was all pretty fresh. Good service, valet parking and food was pretty good even though it was a full house with a line out the door. They have 3 private rooms with karaoke as well. I would maybe see if they can find their footing for a few months. For the value though - sticky rice with soft shell crab for under $25? Sold. Stopped in to give the new dim sum place a shot. Variety was decent but the recurring theme here is that the dishes were not hot enough. The shrimp rice roll was not very thin or warm so it became very doughy and thick. Shiumai skin same issue - kind of this sad chewiness. The soft shell crab with fried sticky rice was great. Borderline absurd portion size but a good deal and pretty tasty. Crispy chinese sausage, diced taro, great wok hei. I would maybe pop in if I'm in the area and hopefully management takes the feedback to make the necessary adjustments. Fifty bay has been my favorite go to dimsum spot lately due to its proximity and consistently good dimsum! They have a good variety here and everything is pretty flavorful without being sickly oily. I particularly enjoy the pink rice rolls that come with a flaky, fried shrimp inside as well as the matcha lava buns. I believe they only have the pink rice rolls on the weekend! The other usuals that I always order are the shumai, meatball, taro wu gok, and the egg tarts, all which are all pretty up to standard. Sadly, the chive dumpling which is my fav dish, was cold both times I got it, but still packed with shrimp and chive! Service is fine but the wait can get long during the weekends since the restaurant is relatively tiny. Takeout is next door, you can call ahead of time to avoid waiting since parking on the street can be a hit or miss. That didn't matter because we had a reservation. But because the restaurant was so busy, several of our orders were messed up. They gave us someone else's dish, they forgot things, and the biggest issue is the Peking Duck. We ordered a Peking Duck and they just brought us leftover duck that was unsold. The color was bad, the way it was butchered was bad, the presentation was also awful...just split into several pieces placed on top of a napkin. We didn't touch it and sent it back. The servers told us that the "chef" is new. Besides those hiccups, we still had a great time and their private rooms also have a karaoke set up which was really fun. Flushing has a lot of dim sum although I'm not sure if Fifty Bay is a good addition. The restaurant is deceptively small - it looks large but its actually only one floor and the tables are laid out with almost no space in between. The second floor wasn't currently open for dining (not sure if it's meant to be) and our table was literally in a nook next to an entrance hall. In terms of dim sum, it was average - nothing stood out but it was all passable. The dining room is incredibly tight and detracts from the experience. It's hard to imagine dining comfortably here. Service is par for the course for any dim sum restaurant. Plus is that they have a parking lot in the back in a neighborhood which can get tight on parking. Prices are about the same as other similar dim sum spots in Flushing. Probably not coming back as there are other choices which are more convenient to get to. read more

Came here for a family dinner to celebrate our Uncle and Auntie's 50th Year Anniversary. We had a private room with great services. Majority of our dishes came out great. My only complain was their roast chicken. It's disappointing to say that they try to push an old chicken on us. Definitely was an order that was made previously. The shrimp chips on top was rubber. The meat itself tasted like it was reheated and left out for a long time. I yet to try this place again as for the food it's standard vs other places I've been to.
