Service was minimal at best but they just seemed under staffed honestly. And when the server did come by, she was running quickly to and from. The place was not busy when my friends and I were seated. But there was a back room in guessing that had occupants since she was missing in the front seating area. (There was a two person table occupied in the front near us). My party of three over ordered but that was intentional because, any purchase over $100, you get a free lobster and each of us had items we wanted, figured we would doggie bag the leftovers. All in all a great value. The lunch spread had over 7 dishes and we got the free lobster. I was especially happy to see Fried Milk on the menu as an appetizer. They also provide complimentary salted peanuts and pickled radish and carrot slivers. I recommend the snow pea shoots, fried milk, clams with black bean sauce and the Chinese Broccoli with Filet beef. The other dishes like the lobster, noodles and sweet and sour pork were executed well but just not my flavor profile. And with my food allergy, I couldn't try the shrimp with walnuts but it was my friends' birthday so she ordered that for her treat. It looked great! My family and I had dinner at Chef Wongs Bistro on New Years Day and we were very glad we did. The restaurant was fairly full and the strangest thing almost all the patrons were wearing their wool hats and coats while seated at their tables. We were famished and only focused on what yummy dishes to order. My wife, son and daughter all contributed their suggestions and we ended up ordering pan fried whole flounder, half of the roast chicken with garlic, filet mignon with Chinese broccoli, fried rice with chicken and salted fish and everyone's favorite dish salt & pepper squid. Once we placed our order and were enjoying the roasted peanuts and free spicy cabbage we realized why everyone had their winter coats on, it felt like they had the AC on and it must have been 55° in the restaurant. I told everyone that once the food arrived things would warm up. Each dish that came out of the kitchen was perfectly cooked and was delicious. The salt & pepper squid with it's minced jalapeños kept us warm enough until the half chicken with garlic and filet mignon and Chinese broccoli came out in rapid succession. The star of the show turned out to be the giant sized pan fried flounder which was not only big but quite scrumptious. Unlike the little scrawny flounder that most other restaurants usually served this was a quite large and very meaty and perfectly cooked. The last dish to come out was a very large plate of chicken fried rice with salted fish. If it were not for the lack of heat, I would have given Chef Wong Bistro 5 stars! read more

We've had 2 group dinners at Chef Wong's Bistro so far and both meals have been excellent! Cantonese seafood dishes are their specialty and you're guaranteed to get some of the freshest ingredients possible, especially if you choose the live seafood from the fish tanks. They keep a stock of North Atlantic Lobsters, Dungeness and Alaskan King Crabs, as well as assorted fish like sea bass and grouper. Sometimes they'll even have mantis shrimp and Asian spotted prawns. At a previous dinner, we had for cousins visiting from California, we had a great banquet meal and for our latest dinner, we entertained friends visiting from Vancouver and the Philippines. We will take any excuse to have a big dinner! The restaurant set meals are good deals with a variety of appetizers, soups, beef, seafood & chicken dishes at different price points. You can even swap dishes from the regular menu to your liking if you have different tastes. There is also a Chef's Specialty menu that you can choose from. This last dinner was a winner. We only had 6 people, but we had an excellent meal starting with the Mixed Appetizer Platter, West Lake Beef soup, a whole Peking Duck and a Pan Fried Flounder. There is a current deal for an Alaskan King Crab for a flat $218, which I reserved the day before. The server brought the live crab out in a tub for pictures and then it was off to the kitchen to be served in 3 dishes. He said it was a 5 lb crab but looked way bigger. I estimate it was at least 8 lb. I had specified the crab legs to be served steamed with garlic & vermicelli, the body parts stir fried with ginger & scallion and the entrails from the carapace were used to flavor the Golden Fried Rice. The best part were the meaty legs, but the body parts were just as sweet. If you get a chance at a King Crab, do it! Being here at the northern end of downtown Flushing, it's easier to drive here and street parking is not hard to get around dinner time, which is free after 7pm, Mon-Sat and all day Sunday. We found parking on the street on a weekend. Service is friendly, efficient and quick. We got a standard banquet style meal with customary 8-9 dishes. Ended with watermelon and dessert soup. The one dish I didn't like was the fried rice as it seemed the rice wasn't fully cooked. I had it as leftovers, added more water, and voila! It was pretty good with softer rice. Great place for family style meal and gathering, most tables are big round table, apart from lunch specials I think this place is better to enjoy with big group so you can order more dishes and fresh seafood. They have big fish tanks at the dining room you can see live seafood available for purchase. Their famous king crab is $40/lbs which isn't a bad deal when you have a big group. The lobster special is daily, but you need or order at least one dish from menu in order to order one lobster, two main for two special price lobster etc. two flavors are free of charge are ginger scallion and salt & pepper. Lobster is big and juicy. I had a lamb and beancurd skin casserole, the lamb is skin on the bone in, more like lamb legs, the dish was a bit bland I didn't even finish, pack it home to cook more. I had a mix BBQ with crispy pork belly and duck, it was not great, pork is very dry and there's only a quarter duck and four of five pieces are just skin and fat, for over $20 that's really not a good portion and quality. This is best Cantonese restaurant for dinner so far. Many restaurants shrinks the portions or quality drop due to inflation. This restaurant still provides large portions, and every taste excellent. I'd give 5 stars if the eel can taste even. So we check the fish tank afterwards the eel were half stuck in the tank, half of its body moving alot and the other half got stuck didn't move. Our family taste the different texture, first half is perfect and second half little mushy. Overall the flavor of steam eel is excellent. Just make sure you go check the eel you want and pick them. We will do it next time The rest of food are perfect to taste, nothing too salty everything has it's own flavor. Owner & servers are so nice. Hidden Gem just a little past the main Streets of Flushing. This is a new restaurant that just open! My family l, family friends and I stop by for dinner. My parent order the fish so I don't know the name, but it's one of the fish in those tanks. Also super fresh, and flavorful. My favorite is without a doubt the Lobsters though. Omg sooooo good! We ordered 4, and end up eating all 4... no left overs lol. The service was also fantastic. The staff is extremely attentive. As soon as our personal plates we're getting a bit dirty, they bring out new ones for us. Maybe because the restaurant isn't as big as the usual resturants that sells this food, the staff was able to be more tentative... even though the place is full (like every table was seated), it wasn't too loud... but that's just my experience, yours might differ since that depends on the customer. Lastly, the price was very reasonable. Most of the dishes were around $15-$25. Fresh seas food price is base on market, but even then, it's not bad. I was excited to try Chef Wong Bistro because of the high rating and reviews found on Yelp - a 4.3 out of 5 which is rarer for a Chinese restaurant. Only a couple of photos post on google lead me to being slightly skeptical on the high review ratings - namely the photos of the Cantonese fried milk which looked heavily battered and slightly burnt. But I was eager to have a yummy dinner tonight with GF and friend visiting from Tokyo. So we arrived at this Cantonese Restaurant and it was about half full on Christmas eve. I was a bit surprised most of the staff did not speak fluent Cantonese or a dialect of and most of the patrons that were Chinese were not speaking Cantonese either. But the food should speak for itself...onto the food! First dish that arrived was the fried milk. It was just like what others had posted up which made me slightly skeptical of the 4.3 rating - such a disappointment - 6 thickly coated and burnt on the edges odd shaped things on a plate with a spoon. Taste and texture is below average with thick crust and slight burnt edges just as it looks. Then the salt braised half of chicken (which was a special promo if you spend $100 you can order this half chicken for $1!) - a bit overly salty and average tasting/texture. However the ginger scallion oil condiment - one of my fav condiments - was missing one essential element the abundance of oil! It was made and served with barely any oil. Very odd. Next came the clams in black bean ginger sauce - this was the best dish tonight in my opinion. Fresh clams and cooked just right with tasty sauce. Next arrived the snow pea leaves in garlic - average and not overcooked. Last main dish was the large prawns in salted egg yolk - slightly below average as most Cantonese restaurants who offer this dish make it better. The salted egg yolk in my experience should be part of the batter when the shrimp is fried and when done it should light loaded with flavor. Here the dish was made where majority of the salted egg yolk made was like a gooey thick sauce over the fried shrimp. Not what I was expecting at all. The braised mushroom e-fu noodles were lacking mushrooms and supporting veggies compared to others I have had - rating below average. Last was the complimentary 8 slices of orange and tong sui - average. Overall it was average for food, service, and below average for ambiance - the toilets had loose to sink faucets that were dangling, toilet flush buttons that had the covers missing, and a bit unclean. I still disappointed at the 4.3 high rating thus I am writing this review. read more

Chef Wong Bistro derives from a old fame Cantonese family style restaurant in Chinatown called 福臨門！I was pleasantly surprised today when we stopped in for their first day of grand opening ! Finding out that they were able to recruit the same chef from that old restaurant in Chinatown and bringing it here to flushing so I never have to make that trip to Chinatown again was a bonus ! They took over the space that use to occupy Lucky Chen's and converted it into a casual, comfortable ambiance for canto family style cuisine , very typical - no frills, nothing fancy renovation but great for large family gatherings! The main focus is the food for me ! Our family of 6 ordered a 8.5lb live king crab because the server said we can have it prepared three ways, so one crab becomes 3 different dishes and boy was it worth it ! We were in for a nice surprise - we elected to have the king crab legs steamed with garlic over rice noodles (hor fun), king crab salted egg yolk style, and steamed eggs with the head shell! It was so fresh, the king crab meat slid right off the shell - very tender and the steamed eggs was so silky! Needless to say, that was the star of the whole dinner for me! Their Cantonese roast cuts selections was also very tasty! You'll have to double up on a few dishes to really feed more than a piece to everyone. - Crispy chicken garlic - this was decent, but do note they don't sell a whole chicken, instead they'll charge you twice for two half chicken. For $40+ you can skip. - Salt and pepper squid - Crispy and nicely fried but really salty. - Seafood beancurd casserole - this was all right, nothing to rave about - Crab meat fish maw soup - also a bit pricy, had a lot of ingredients but the flavor was bland - Lobster fried rice - decent pricing for each lobster about like $17 each and you can opt to get rice or noodles - Jellyfish - didn't like this as much, it was the really thick kind of jellyfish and was just meh - tong choy with garlic - this is a hard pass, it was overcooked and soggy - Peking pork chop - probably one of the better dishes that tastes great - String beans with pork - super spicy and salty - Toisan cauliflower with Chinese sausage - also very salt - Clams with black bean sauce - this one was good. Service was fine, they didn't refill our waters often. The waiter only spoke mandarin so it was a little harder to communicate. The nice looking chairs were faulty, we had to switch out two of the chairs that were broken. read more

We've been in for dinner over a handful of times and the food is always great, especially the king crab 3 ways. Fresh ingredients and light touch with the sauces. Chefs kiss. The staff is always super attentive and courteous -- which is an anomaly for Chinese restaurants in general but especially in Flushing.
