I really like Fig Tree Cafe, especially in this area instead of in North Park, because there is always parking. My favorite time to come is during brunch! The area is pretty and after you eat, you can walk around to see the water fountains or shop at the markets there. They have searing available inside and outside. On a nice day, sitting outside is perfect, except when the airplanes fly by, because they are loud since they're closer than usual - the airport isn't too far away. I've always had a good experience everytime I came here. The food is always fresh and delicious. The drinks are great too. I love their selection of eggs Benedicts. The crab and lobster cake Benne is delicious and full of crab flavor. The eggs are always perfectly poached. Oh man. They come with a side of potatoes and I do have to say that they are great. They're sweet, salty, and roasted well. The staff is nice and friendly. They always come to the table with a smile and are willing to any questions about the food. First timer here and I wasn't that impressed. I mean the food isn't bad but it's just average. Based on the other reviews everyone had great food so maybe I just ordered the wrong thing? I ordered the chicken sausage omelette to share with my 1 year old. The eggs were fluffy but i wasn't too fond of the sauce that was inside the omelette. I'm not into thick gravy like sauces and this omelette had a whole bunch of it inside mixed in with the sausage and bell peppers. I felt like the omelette was overpriced for such a small portion. The wheat toast was super dry and the potatoes were bland. The only thing I enjoyed was the AC blasting and the fresh squeezed OJ. I'm not sure if I'd be back since there are tons of other breakfast/brunch spots close by. read more

Have been to Fig Tree Cafe in Hillcrest lots of times. Reason I love this place is because of the Mexican Mocha they have. It's to die for!!! I had been wanting to try the liberty station location for a while now. Was able to come try it a few days ago for a birthday breakfast with some of my girlfriends. Service and food were great as usual but I was so sad their expresso machine wasn't working and I didn't get my Mexican mocha on my birthday :(. Only reason I won't give it a five stars this time. Fig Tree Cafe just opened up a couple weeks ago, and had the chance to stop in. Nice ambiance, music, and some dishes on the menu that looked interesting. Tried the Tequila Lobster ravioli and the braised short rib pizza w/ rosemary potatoes and horseradish creme fraiche on top (which was the best part of the pizza), and they were both pretty good, but didn't really wow me; not a lot of flavor. Someone at the table in front of me ordered the fish of the day - pan seared yellowtail w/ garlic mashed potatoes, and asparagus in white wine sauce - and it looked really good. Might have to try the fish next time. My fussy eater older daughter was not impressed w/ the menu, although they offered to do revise the Lobster Mac and cheese for a "plain" Mac and cheese, or one of the flatbreads for a "cheese pizza." Would be nice to have a kids menu. They have happy hour 4-6 daily w/ nice selection of beers for $3, mimosas w/ fresh squeezed OJ for $4 (they said they would add wine to the the happy hour menu soon), and some apps (like bruschetta and stuffed jalapenos) for $5. My recent visit to Fig Tree Cafe was the first time at their Liberty Station location and the first time I've come aside from breakfast. I wasn't sure what to expect from their dinner menu since they are ingrained in my head as a breakfast spot, but I must say they are not slacking on their dinner game either. If you haven't tried their breakfast I would definitely recommend it. I came to Fig Tree with a rather large party as we were celebrating the birthdays of one fabulous set of twins. We were sat out on the patio and I was pleased to see that we were given more than one server to handle our rather large table. The patio is a great spot for a big party since the indoor portion of the restaurant is quite small. The dinner menu offfers a variety of small plates, salads, flatbreads and a few entree choices. I decided to start with the arugala salad which has cheese and protabellas to top it off.The combination of flavors were well balanced and the ingredients all tasted wonderfully fresh. When the salad came out, I was shocked to see how large it was. I was expecting a little appetizer sized portion, but what I got was so much more. I had originally planned on ordering something else as well, but the salad filled me up. I would definitely like to try something more next time as some of the other items at my table looked good enough to eat! read more

They were very accommodating in making sure we had ample time to make it to our scheduled show at the lot. The food was excellent. I enjoyed my stuffed chicken with garlic spinach potatoes. But I even liked my wife's spicy shrimp pasta even more. We also received a complimentary bread pudding dessert with our Yelp checkin - it's good to be a yelper! Love this place! Have been in San Diego less than a week and have eaten here twice! We went before 9am on a Saturday and a weekday and were seated immediately. The staff here are so friendly and quick! First time we tried the breakfast sushi, shrimp frittata, and fig tree mule. For the breakfast sushi, I've seen pictures where people ask for the plum sauce on the side and would totally recommend that -- it gets pretty over powering. The shrimp frittata was pretty good with the super plump and juicy shrimp, I would ask to lighten up on the cheese next time. Second time we tried the shrimp and mango salad, BLT, and mangosteen mimosa. The BLT was a bit heavy for my taste, but still really good and if you have a chance to take a bite off someone, do it! My favorite now is probably the shrimp and mango salad and will probably get that every time -- super light, filling, and just damn delicious! Would highly recommend getting a drink as both I had were really good! They also have military discount which is a huge plus! Can't wait to go back for another round! read more

We ordered the breakfast sushi since it seemed like that was the most popular thing on their menu....and it was not good. They were messy and hard to eat, and the combination of things in the rolls just did not go together. Despite the limitations of lack of certain types of lettuce due to infectious agents, we were still able to partake in excellent salads nonetheless - our table universally had the sapphire which included some excellent goat cheese amongst the walnuts, cranberry and turkey which satisfied the appetites all around. The outside patio allows for diffused light so no one is blinded and is recommended if the weather is cooperating, which no doubt in SD it is. Came in to the Fig Tree for breakfast. I'm not a big breakfast person, but I did enjoy my andouille sausage omelette. I just found it a bit small for a three egg omelette. My husband and son split the french toast sampler. Not overly impressed, the bread was nicely toasted on the outside, but the inside was kind of dry, like it did not have a chance to soak up any of the custard. The syrup was lacking as well. It came in a small ramekin and had a thick skin on it, and poured out in globs, not like syrup. The bananas on the bananas foster toasts were not even close to ripe. They were kinda crunchy and bitter. Yeah, weird. The service was okay and the food was okay, but I found it pricey for what you got. It was good but, worth a 3 Star rating on my end. Grilled Flat Iron Steak with Rustic Vegetables and bordelaise sauce sprinkled on the vegetables. - 3.8 Stars. A very close 4 Star dish as I felt the bordelaise sauce was on the heavy side. Overall Rating: 3.95 Stars. I would return to this establishment. It was stuffed w/ mascarpone, mango, & strawberry filling. The bread was perfect! DH ordered the Eggs Benny w/ crab cake. Must order it on the focaccia bread! Every food item was really tasty and I'd be a regular if I didn't live so far away! Atmosphere was very cozy & comfy. Outside patio was very relaxed. I imagine it gets crazy though. I like to avoid crowds altogether when trying a new restaurant so I usually go places during the week. I came here on a Friday around 9:30 AM, there was literally no wait at all. But they definitely weren't empty, they had a good sized crowd enjoying brunch. My friend got the California omelette, phenom. I got the "Berry Sweet french toast" that I'll probably dream about for the rest of my freaking life. After eating here all I can think about is when I'm coming back for more french toast. I'm an addict now and I have a very serious problem. Is there an AA, but like for Fig Tree french toast? It's totally worth it to upgrade your potatoes with parmesan and spinach. Just delicious. My eggs were amazing, my potatoes were amazing, my bacon was amazing, and y'all already know how I feel about the french toast... Just a dreamy experience overall. I wish I could give this place at least 4 stars but unfortunately I settled with two. My waitress was great and the food has a lot of potential. However, the bus staff (or food server) spilled half the potatoes on my dish all over the table as he was serving me my plate. He didn't bother to apologize or offer to replenish what little potatoes were left. My food was cold and honestly tasted like it was sitting out for a while. The espresso was served cold & the sour cream looked like they just whipped milk together. After eating here, I ended up getting food poisoning. Smelt dirty like wet dog. Pets should not be allowed into a dining area. The food came out and was dry looked like it sat on the counter for 15 min before it reached us. Everything was under seasoned no salt or pepper just had a lot of rosemary or sage which just threw the whole dish off. Go some where else if your in town just for a few days like I was. I could tell this place was going to be great because of the long wait outside when we walked up. You can expect for there to be a wait on a Saturday morning, and trust me it is worth it. Fig Tree Café is located in Liberty Station and has both indoor and outdoor seating with sunshine pouring in. The patio was covered and had a lively atmosphere; it was the place to be on a Saturday morning. The patio was beautiful wand we were lucky enough to sit out there, I was happy until I sat down on my chair. Sitting there was fine in the beginning but after 10 minutes I was feeling sore from the metal chair. I would recommend that the restaurant looks into other options if available, but it was doable because the food was great. The waiter brought us menus after we sat down and the promptly left, he didn't tell us his name or welcome us to the restaurant. We took a few minutes to look at the menu, which is when he stopped by again. He simply asked if we wanted coffee, but he didn't speak very loudly and had to repeat himself. At that point he seemed to get frustrated because it took a few seconds for our table to decide what drink to order since we didn't understand his question at first. It was uncomfortable because he was visibly upset and frustrated that it was taking more time than he wanted for us to order the drinks. He left and at that point I could tell he already did not want to serve our table, but we didn't let that ruin our time here. We ordered our food with him and he didn't make conversation with us during that interaction. I would like to think that most of the servers are not like that. I was pleasantly surprised that our food came out quickly; it was perfect because we were ready to eat! The menu is filled with dishes that look amazing; I wish I could have tried it all! After narrowing it down I chose French Toast with fresh berries and cream cheese, which was sweet and fresh. It was beautifully presented with the freshest berries full of color, and dollops of whipped cream cheese. The French toast was firm with just a bit of crisp to it, and did not need syrup added to it. You could tell that the French toast was made and brought out to us right away. I chose to make it a combo with 2 perfectly done scrambled eggs and not too crispy yet chewy bacon. Overall it was a large portion of food and I was stuffed afterwards, the entrée exceeded my expectations! My friend and I came here on a Saturday morning and ordered the Monterey Scramble as well as the Andouille Sausage Omelette. Both were so savory and amazing we decided to go back the next morning. Sunday morning was a lot more busy. If you do not want to wait for a table I suggest you arrive at or before 9am. We ordered the Berry Sweet French Toast with Man Candy Bloody Mary.
