What a great spot for lunch! My friend and I decided to try this place for the first time while we were in the area, and it did not disappoint. We made a reservation for 12:15 on a Friday, and we were glad we did because there was already a wait when we arrived. Even with reservations, we waited about 10 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it. The food was delicious, and our waiter was incredibly helpful and attentive. I had the breakfast Chilaquiles Verde and my friend ordered the bowl, which was perfect for her since she has food allergies. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and well prepared. If I'm ever back in the area, I would definitely return!

Found Madi online, and from the pictures, it looked like a casual brunch spot with wonderful aesthetics and a cool, new-retro diner feel. And they delivered! As soon as we walked in, I loved the vibe, from the wooden walls, to the pictures hanging in the bathroom, to the hanging indoor plants. However, Madi fell short in their service and food. We were told to wait 30 minutes for our table. Ended up only being 20 which was a nice surprise! However, as soon as we sat down, we were not welcomed in, no one to explain the menu, no one to offer water, and no one to even take our order. And when we finished, no one to offer the bill, and to-go boxes were all self-serve. Just seemed like there was no urgency! Everytime we needed something, we had to flag someone down, which even that took some effort. Automatic 4% Hospitality charge too. The food was fine with some unique flavor combinations. My G.O.A.T sandwich came with a wonderful sticky and spicy jam, but overall it was slightly dry and bready, the swiss cheese could have been meltier, and the egg yolk was already broken. The Greek Fries came with a bold tahini sauce, but even then, the chicken was dry and the fries were not crispy at all, but floppy, soggy, and chewy. Maybe we came on a bad day. Maybe we just ordered the wrong things. But I really am trying to give Madi the chance it obviously deserves!

Came here the Saturday before Mother's Day. The blackberry goat cheese pancakes were tasty and not too sweet. The chilaquiles verdes were good and they poached the eggs perfectly. No complaints about the surfer breakfast burrito. Mom loved her latte and I enjoyed a refreshing immunity shot. Service was not very good-- slow to refill coffee/forgetful, no energy, no personality, no care. Atmosphere was nice.

Super cool brunch spot! We took our daughter Madison to Madi for her B-Day and were not disappointed. The staff was really nice and on top of their game. We came early to get our name in, (a party of eight) Worth the wait, which gave us time to walk the neighborhood. The group had everything from the goat, Orange pancakes, to biscuits and gravy. We celebrated with mini churro waffle sticks and wow! The only suggestion and reason for a 4 v 5 is a simple fix. The coffee! Initially, the bottomless coffee was nice and hot, both refills were warm/cold. Darn and again an easy fix. Can't wait to go back.

I recently had the pleasure of having lunch at Madi, a charming breakfast-and-lunch spot in San Diego that closes at 2 p.m. The space is super cute, and we enjoyed sitting out on their lovely patio. The highlight for me was building my own bowl with the freshest ingredients: baby spinach, baby arugula, hot honey chicken, pickled cabbage, tomato, pickled cucumbers, and avocado. The hot honey lemon vinaigrette was perfect--delicious with just the right balance of heat and sweetness. I also tasted the chilaquiles verde, which were absolutely delicious--fresh, flavorful, and cooked just right. Overall, everything tasted incredibly fresh and well-prepared. They also have a great drink selection, including iced tea and Mexican Coke. I highly recommend visiting on a weekday before the lunch rush. I'll definitely be back!

MADI, MADI, MADI. I do not have enough words for how much I, and my friends and family, love Madi. If I could design the *perfect* brunch spot, this would be it. HOT TIPS: 1) make a reservation online before you go 2) if you're a pancake fiend, I HIGHLY recommend the orange cinnamon roll pancake! 3) if you're not gluten free like me, their Waffle Cinnamon Sticks are a crowd pleaser. As a gluten free girly, it is HARD to find anything except basic eggs and meat for brunch. And since brunch is a culture for us Californians, I am delighted that Madi exists... so I don't have to sit with my girls and watch with jealousy as they chomp away at something great. But here, they're so intentional to tell you what you can or cannot have on the menu. First off, I looove the ambiance. Huge curvy / wavy partitions complement vintage plaid, but in pastel colors like lilac, pastel yellow, and light lime green to make it modern. It's like a classic American diner brought into the Instagram age that's appealing to all: from teen-aged, to age 70 (my mom loves coming here). The BEST part about Madi, aside from its look, has GOT to be its Gluten Free Pancakes, okayyy! I *dream* about a yummy gluten free baked good, and honestly? It's rare to find. Madi not only makes them, they make 'em with INTENTION; I've gotten to meet the owner twice, and she was gracious enough to ask for feedback (it seems she spends a lot of time on R&D; she put in the werrk for this batch!). You can get a stack of pancakes, but I also *love* that you can get them separate. I tend to order two, just to taste different flavors, and I believe they're around $5 - $6 each. Not bad! I like ordering the lemon blueberry pancake gluten free, but OMGGG the gluten free orange cinnamon roll one??? When they added that on the menu, I near flipped the table over. It's sumptous: zesty from the orange; savory from the cinnamon. And OMG is it so, so good! I'm mostly dairy free, but let me tell you, I sacrifice my stomach for the dairy here. 'Cuz what's a pancake without a bit of butter smothered on top, with heaps of syrup? PRO TIP: Add an egg and meat on the side to balance your sweet with savory. They ask, bacon or sausage? The server was kind enough to tell me that the sausage may have gluten, so I went with bacon. Not a complaint from me! I also love their coffee flavors -- so inventive. Everything from a black sesame latte, to an ube matcha. Though their coffee flavor isn't strong how I like it, their flavors are fun and tasty with breakfast. And if you're not feelin' too sweet don't worry: the variety is impeccable here! Everything from savory breakfast (like a good breakfast burrito) to a nutritious lunch (like a build your own power bowl!). Madi is sure to please your whole group, no matter their palate. Good service is hard to find but here? They are so delightful! I LOVE how enthused they tend to be, their moods matching the brightness of this shop. The bathrooms are so, so fun too... upbeat decor! Just know there can be a line piling up to wait. Madi gets busy ESPECIALLY on the weekends, so make a reservation a few days in advance for weekdays, and WEEKS in advance on weekends with a group (People come here from out of town all the time). Parking here is the only downside. Situated in a neighborhood in Adams, these areas tend to get busy. I like to park by the school; otherwise, you may have to walk a few blocks. After a filling brunch like that, mark some time off to walk a few blocks in the neighborhood. You'll find: a shop of cool items a few doors down; a gallery / art studio, and even a house redesigned as a thrift shop with books for as low as $1 outside (on sale for a quarter to 50 cents when we went!).

A lovely birthday breakfast May 7th! Pancakes, eggs, bacon, Chai Tea, Latte's, If you are lucky you will have Grant for your waiter. He knows the menu backwards & forward. His service is excellent.

Ooolala we love a good Valentine's Day brekkie!! We had a reservation for 8am and the line was out the door. But it was well worth the wait ladies and gents Honestly! I loved everything about this experience from the decor to the customer service to the delicious foods, but I was disappointed they ran out of the special Love Potion latte: chocolate mascarpone foam, raspberry, espresso, milk. SOUNDED LIKE HEAVEN ON EARTH that's why inside I was screaming oh well. I felt it was too early to run out of the latte. The ube matcha wasn't as ube flavored as I wanted it to be if I'm being honest. The foods were a generous portion. I had the rest of my G.O.A.T sandwich the next day. Loved the cheese and meats and potatoes. I scarfed those potatoes down like there was no tomorrow. Parking was a challenge so come early. Thank ya! Enjoy!

The Madi is lively with cool music playing in the background, which gives the place a great ambiance. They have a dog-friendly patio, which is always a plus, and the staff was friendly and accommodating when we asked to move to a different seat. I ordered the lemon blueberry pancakes with eggs and sausage, and oh my gosh... it was delicious. The pancakes had the perfect lemon blueberry flavor, super fresh and served hot. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly to my liking and actually flavorful (which isn't always the case), and the sausage was big, juicy, and really tasty. This place is amazing. Five stars, ten stars, however you want to rate it. Highly recommend.

    Emma S.

Buttermilk pancakes were okay and the bacon was really good. I ordered the plain pancakes which came with 3 pancakes, butter, syrup, and I ordered a side of 2 pieces of bacon. I wouldn't get the pancakes again just because they were nothing special, but I would like to try something new next time, like the breakfast burrito which looks good.

Food was delicious, I ordered a la carte 2 eggs, bacon, and 1 blueberry lemon pancake, with coffee. I love the atmosphere, vibe was chill, friendly and in a hip little area called Normal Heights. Our server was friendly and attentive.

Overall I thought the food was okay. I think I just learned I don't really like goat cheese, and mostly everything on the menu has goat cheese haha. The restaurant is very cute, though. A very instagrammable interior. The service is a little slow, but that's to be expected when you go to a restaurant during a busy hour.

Came here today for the first time for a friend's birthday brunch. We were seated quickly on the patio on a gorgeous day! Service was great, and the food was delicious! Grant was super friendly and attentive. He had the best energy and made our experience so much better. Btw, I had the grilled cheese on sourdough + the motorbike!

Do they still add a 3 or 4% surcharge to your check?

    I honestly don’t know.

How's the parking situation in the area?

Usually I get a spot within the block or out front if I'm lucky. Only street parking.

    Are there gluten free options?

Yes, they have gluten-free bread but not gluten free pancakes. I think they are working on it. =) But LOTS of other gluten free option!

    Are there vegan options?

I am not sure, but I believe there are several options.

    Are you dog friendly?

    Yes, they are dog friendly.

Is the line long before opening hours?

On the weekends yes, better to make a reservation and not have to wait.

The inside was nearly fully booked, but we were able to grab a table on the patio, which worked out great. There was also open seating at the bar. We started with the Brussels sprouts and fries. The Brussels sprouts were good--my fiancé enjoyed them more than I did, but I found them a bit underwhelming. The fries were your standard skinny fries, decent overall but slightly over-salted. For a cold dish, we shared the Wagyu tartare, which unfortunately was the biggest letdown of the night. It was overwhelmingly heavy on ginger, shallots, and vinaigrette--so much so that you could barely taste the beef. The flavors were intensely salty, acidic, and overpowering. It also came with crispy fried chips, which only added to the heaviness. We're not the type to send food back, but it was honestly difficult to get through--we ended up drinking multiple bottles of water just to balance it out. On the drinks side, though, they really delivered. I ordered the Wild Honey and my fiancé had the Old Fashioned--both were excellent. The portions were solid (not overly diluted with ice), and the flavors were well-balanced and enjoyable. Overall, I'd consider coming back for drinks, especially given the ambiance and quality of cocktails. As for the food, based on this experience, it's not something I'd return for. Still, it's a nice spot if you're looking for a casual drink in a good atmosphere

Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
