Very disappointed. My wife and I went for the night after Valentine's Day due to 100% reserved. Even though they were turning people away, all of the tables around us were empty. Our server was excellent, but the food extremely underwhelming. Just plain bad! Our filets ($50) were not butchered well, lots of sinew and tough for a filet. The outside was charred and left it bitter. Cooked ok inside, but very little flavor. "Chef's butter" was just butter with little to no enhancement (garlic and herbs as presented). Asparagus was bland. Should have stayed home. OMG the deserts were horrible. The "New York Cheesecake" must have been ordered from US Foods and the lemon pound cake with ice cream and berries was basically Starbucks' lemon loaf (once again US Foods generic) heated up with basic ice cream and canned blueberries with whatever syrup gels inside the can . . . yuk! For a $200 dinner, not worth it and will NEVER go again nor recommend. Once again, heard a lot of good things . . . but do NOT waste your money! read more

Figaro is in a beautiful historical building with elegant fixtures. The floor seemed to be dirty. The service was exceptional and prompt. We had a Friday late brunch as they offer it every day. The prices of entrees are about $15-$30 a plate. My wife ordered the breakfast platter. She ordered her eggs over medium, but they arrived well done. There was more food than she could eat and the sides were good. I ordered the Cuban as it is a favorite of mine after living in Cuba and Florida. It came with an ample amount of ham and a slab of pork covered with melted cheese. It was wrapped in a pressed bread cooked perfectly. The sandwich was overloaded with a spicy mustard that dominated the entire flavor of the sandwich. After the first half, I scraped about a tablespoon of mustard off and I could taste the ham, pork and cheese. Figaro was okay at best, but we will give it another try during lunch or dinner hours. read more

This place was recommended by a local. We have been to the Newberry Opera House several times. Had always dined at the Cabana which has ceased operations. Was told that Figaro's Chilean Bass was a speciality. Hate to say this but one of the worse meals I have ever had. Was grossly undercooked so I sent it back. Server Josh was very apologetic about the issue. Returned in a few minutes and it was still inedible. By now my wife was finishing her she crab soup(average) and excellent salad. The food was really good. The manager "Chris" who was also our server was one of the most unprofessional, rude assholes I've ever experience. Not only was he rude to me but to numerous people in our very large party. We were there as a family celebrating a birthday but had come into town to bury the husband of the female celebrating her birthday. It got so bad two members of the party had to confront "Chris". When I came back to the local hotel and was telling the lady at the desk about our experience she said this was a common problem and has had complaints from many guest about "Chris". He has a horrible attitude and finds it necessary to be rude. Later that evening we saw "Chris" at a local bar owned by the same owner of the restaurant where he continued to talk smack about the incident. We had lunch here this afternoon since we were antique shopping. The inside of the building is very pretty and the manager did ask us if everything was okay, which it was! Our waiter was a little underwhelming but the food was great. The she crab soup was rich and very good, there were little pieces of crab throughout. I also ordered the chicken and waffles, which I would highly recommend. My next stop here will definitely be date night with my husband! read more

We were here for my fathers funeral. I grew up here. The service was one of the worst experiences I've ever had. Chris is a prick. My mother inquired about her salad and Chris was confrontational. I was so disappointed. My best friend and I were from out of town to do antiquing. Came into the restaurant , the girl that greeted us asked us if we had reservations. We did not. She sat us at the table closest to the door. She had a very snooty attitude. Our waiter was monotone and unenthusiastic about waiting on us. The 2 people that cane in after us were greeted by same young girl and were not asked if they had reservations. The food was not up to par, I ordered the rib eye sandwich and the bottom bread was soak in juice especially for an over priced sandwich. The rib eye was tender. I was taken to this restaurant for my birthday. We expected higher costs for the meal as we knew it was a higher end restaurant but we did not expect what we felt was mediocre in the food. Our steak had considerable fat that had to be cut off leaving much less meat for eating. The cooking of the steak was ok. The menu choices were very slim. The restaurant appeared to be in need of some repairs. Waiter was attentive. The atmosphere and the food in my opinion was not worth the money that we paid. We will not be returning. read more

We were in town for the Tommy Emmanuel concert next door at the Newberry Opera House. We were warmly greeted as soon as we walked in the door. This location is an old bank. The interior is warm and inviting. The interior is first class. Our waitress was attentive and very helpful. Since we were short on time we ordered quickly. My Bride had the Ribeye with Mashed Potatoes and I had the Blackened Ribeye Special. We were both very pleased with our selections. The only reason I did not given them 5 Stars was due to the non existent beer selection. A restaurant of this caliber needs a good selection of beer. I opted for scotch since my pallet can't tolerate Bud-Lite. Even that selection was weak. I ended up with bottom shelf scotch..... First off my rating is not based on how AWESOME the food was. But I was in Newberry for 3 days on my way to the Masters. This nice little restaurant was close to my hotel. Seems like the town of Newberry lacks restaurants like Apple Bees. So it was Figaro or fast food. We took our chances on Figaro. The food was delicious I must say. But it is on the expensive side. My daughter got a stake cooked very well but we got an up charge for stake sauce... a total of $3 for some sauce. The overall dinner was expensive but the food was worth it. I would have loved to have experienced dining in this restaurant. Unfortunately, after driving an hour to try it, we were told at the door we had no reservation and they couldn't serve us. It was 12:45pm in the afternoon. Very unprofessional. I have never been turned away from a restaurant and not even given the choice to wait for a table, extremely disappointed. It seemed the host had zero interest in giving us any option but to leave. How unwelcoming and certainly left a sour taste in my mouth. Came here with work colleagues for a nice dinner downtown. Upon arriving, we were asked if we were going to the show at the Opera House. We said no and were told we would be lesser priority due to other patrons needing to make it out in time, understandable. HOWEVER! we spent near 40 minutes waiting to even put in a drink order, I got the skirt steak (medium rare) and half was over cooked and the other half was near raw. This is a really nice place. Very classy deco with southern charm, and they quality of food and service was great! What a wonderful lunch experience we had at Figaro the Dining Room. I had a perfectly cooked and very fresh piece of salmon over a salad that included fresh strawberries and blueberries and candied pecans. This was the daily special. My friend enjoyed the Cuban panini with sweet potato fries, both so very good. This is a small venue, in an old bank building with intact vault. They take reservations and I was glad we had made them. Everyone was very nice and the service couldn't have been better! We will definitely return, maybe for dinner next time. read more
