Love this place! The old school vibe. Trying to guess the artists playing in the background. Fabulous salad bar selection. And do they know how to cook a steak! The atmosphere is relaxed. The wait staff is knowledgeable and attentive. We really enjoy visiting with them! Well done!

Terry was very friendly at front of house . Matt was a great and attentive person and was very friendly yet professional . Did not get to try the porterhouse as someone had the last one. Definitely will be back . Unassuming place but packed with great steaks and a sumptuous salad bar

Second time visiting this establishment. It definitely has a following. We arrived early on a Friday, 4:50. They open at 5 and had a line waiting outside to get in. Never would have predicted that. They ended up opening a bit early and got us in and seated pretty quickly. Very efficient. We were seated very close to the salad bar, which was a bit of a busy area as everyone was trying to get to the salad bar. We had people standing next to where we were seated as they waited in line. It got less busy as the initial rush passed. Not a big deal for us, but you do kind of wonder if people are watching you eat as they are waiting. Ha ha. Our waitress was awesome. Very friendly and helpful with menu selections. My wife got a glass of house wine which she said was very good. I had an Old Fashioned with Templeton Rye. Very good. My wife had the special of the day, bourbon salmon that she really enjoyed. I had the shish-ka-bob which was also very good. Fantastic sauce on both. We had a really nice meal that was surprisingly less expensive than I would have guessed. A really nice night for the wife and I, without the kids. This place had a bit of an old school feel, and it's packed pretty tight with tables, but it's well run and the food is legit. Easy 5 stars for me.

This place has been on my radar for a couple years now. And it did not disappoint. I ordered the bone-in ribeye and it was one of the best steaks I've probably ever had. The prime rib and lobster tail was also good. Even then, I'd probably not get the lobster tail next time. Not really worth the price in my opinion. Salad bar was great, with lots of options and good ingredients. Prices are high, but that's to be expected for a steakhouse like this. Service was great. Waitress was very patient and helpful. Low ambient lighting makes it great for date nights or even to just have a few drinks and dinner with friends. Overall, I'd visit again in the future for another special occasion.

We decided to celebrate our Anniversary at John and Nicks. It's been on our list as a place to try. It was a bust for me. Just didn't knock my socks off. I started with a Knob Creek on the Rocks with a Left Handed Death Before Disco Porter. Both were excellent. No Draft - just can or bottle. The salad bar was nice. For me the salad in the bowl with the tongs was not working. It need moved to the front so you can reach. Felt like I was playing operation with the lettuce. Well sorry haters but it's a review so I'm going to be honest. I don't want to see brown lettuce or anything like that. It should be fresh IMO. So not a deal breaker just a that's not fresh. They had the usual stuff for a salad bar you would find at a steak house. I am not going to compare to that place on the east side. That place is it's own jam and a different restaurant. Decided on the order of onion rings. Hot and fresh. These are thin. They have good breading, but like onion rings like this, the onion ring might be elusive. I would definitely recommend. I chose the 8 oz Steak Deburgo Medium with cream sauce. The steak was rare, Not much past mooing since the center was cold. I wasn't impressed. The cream sauce didn't have that white wine and garlic flavor. I was dumbfounded at the blandness. The tenderloin was a nice lean cut and had nice flavor. You could cut it with a fork. I don't send my food back. I worked at a restaurant and have seen horrible sh!t done to people's food to know to never do that. Besides I wasn't going to die. I just expected a lot better from a steak house. They do specialize in prime rib so maybe that's how the steaks are served. I would go one higher in the done-ness and if you like rare I can't imagine what that is going to be like. I am guessing straight from the cooler. I got the spaghetti and added a meatball. Needed to see if this is a legit Italian Steakhouse. It was not. The meatball was solid and very good. Great tomato flavor. My issue was the spaghetti as it was past Al dente. Not quite mush, but not far away. Also our server Rachel was excellent. We came at 5 ish. We sat in the bar area. Another issue I had was sitting in the bar area and they sat a couple tables with kids. I feel the bar area seating should be for adults and not kids. They weren't bad, but I go out to get a way. This type of restaurant I wouldn't expect two to three tables of with kids in the bar. I like peaceful dining and not unhappy children. For you haters, I am going to give it another go, maybe the usual cook took the night off. For the price point I am expecting some flavor. That De Burgo should be singing garlic and white wine. Hoping next time John and Nicks knocks it out of the park.

Nestled on Hickman Road near Waukee, Iowa, John and Nick's Steakhouse is a local gem offering exceptional food, an impressive salad bar, and stellar table service. Over the years, it has become a go-to spot for me, particularly for their always-perfect prime rib--a dish consistently cooked to the ideal temperature and seasoned just right. Whether you're a carnivore or a lover of crisp, fresh greens, the salad bar is a standout feature, stocked with a variety of fresh, high-quality options that elevate the dining experience. The service from the waitstaff is impeccable. Their attentiveness and warm demeanor make each visit memorable, creating a welcoming atmosphere that invites you to linger and enjoy. However, there is a notable blemish on this otherwise shining establishment: the behavior of a host, Terry(?), who I suspect may also be a manager or proprietor. Unfortunately, Terry's demeanor is consistently rude and condescending, not only toward myself but also to other patrons, as observed during multiple visits. A recent incident exemplifies this. When a guest requested to dine at the bar--something commonly done at John and Nick's--Terry brusquely interjected, stating, "No! You can't do that," despite the fact that many others were visibly enjoying their meals at the bar. His curt command to the bartender to deny service at the bar felt unnecessary and out of place. The couple did end up eating at the bar. This pattern of behavior is not an isolated occurrence. In conversations with nearby diners, others have shared similar frustrations with Terry's unwelcoming approach. His interactions sharply contrast with the otherwise outstanding hospitality provided by the rest of the staff. John and Nick's excels in its food and service, and I would gladly recommend it for those alone. Yet, the dining experience would be significantly enhanced if the establishment addressed the apparent hostility in its hosting practices. A restaurant as well-regarded as this one deserves a front-of-house presence that reflects the care and quality of the kitchen and waitstaff. John and Nick's offers an excellent dining experience marred only by one individual's unprofessionalism. I hope to see improvements in this regard, as it would solidify their position as one of the finest steakhouses in the area. Maybe it was just - another - bad night for Terry. Great food though!

    chicken fettuccine alfredo.

We wanted to dine on Friday night. we tried to call and call o answer. finally after 4 someone did answer and made reservations for our party of 6. The server was extremely helpful and very nice. Sherri maybe? I ordered chicken fettuccine alfredo. it was hood and beautifully displayed, but didn't get the picture until afterward. my mom got prime rib and it was tasty. the star however was the filet. cooked so perfectly and tender. yum! The salad bar has a huge selection. my only complaint was one of those pasta salads had tuna in it and it was not expected, I may have felt differently if I had anticipated it. otherwise everything was great.

We were there on a Sunday so I suspect a lot of other people were taking advantage of the Sunday dinner for two like we were. We were greeted when we came in the door and the service from the time we entered until the time we left was outstanding. As we are celebrating our anniversary, our table was decorated for that which was a nice touch. We looked over the very extensive menus and did settle back in on the $99 dinner for two. In theory it is smaller portions than some of their other dishes, but there was more than enough food there for the two of us. We got the filet mignon, which was wonderfully prepared and an outstanding cut of meat. We got the 50-50 potatoes, and asked later what the 50-50 meant and discovered it's 50% potato and 50% butter and cream. They are delicious but decadent! We also got the asparagus which was very good. It had a wonderful sauce, and was tender and flavorful. We also each got the wedge salad which was almost a meal in itself. And we each got the carrot cake for dessert. We had to bring a lot of the carrot cake home because we were quite topped off at that point. The carrot cake is a slightly different twist than some, but very good nonetheless. The wine list is very good and prices are what you would expect at an establishment of this type. All in all, I would definitely go back and try some other things. If you're into oysters, they have quite a selection of those, but that's not really my jam.

To kick things off, they brought out the complimentary bread basket and signature dipping oil. The oil blend is always a great start to the meal and ours was freshly stocked. For an appetizer, we tried the Calamari Fritti. The presentation was beautiful--lightly golden and piled nicely--definitely a strong start visually and texture-wise. For the main event, I ordered the Fettuccini with Lobster. The execution on the kitchen's part was a bit of a mixed bag. On one hand, the pasta itself was cooked perfectly al dente, holding its structure exactly how you want a thick noodle to. On the other hand, the sauce fell a bit flat for me--it just felt a little mid-tier and lacked that rich, memorable flavor pop you look for in a luxury pasta dish. The atmosphere walks a nice line between a casual weeknight spot and a slightly more upscale evening out. It's got a warm, energetic vibe that works well for a date night or a family get-together without feeling overly stuffy or pretentious. I would go 4 1/2 star if I could but it leans more towards 5.

Since Biaggi's was operating reservation-only for Valentine's Day, I didn't want to risk it. Smart move. When we arrived for our early lunch reservation, the place was almost completely empty - quiet, calm, and beautifully set up for what would clearly become a packed evening later. There was something really special about being there early. The white tablecloths were perfectly pressed, the fireplace was glowing, soft lighting filled the room, and the entire space felt intimate and relaxed. No noise. No crowd. Just that upscale Italian ambiance without the rush. We were seated immediately, and the service was attentive from the start. Water glasses filled. Warm bread delivered. Friendly but professional tone. There was zero stress in the air - which is rare for February 14th. Now let's talk about the Chicken Marsala. The presentation was elegant and clean. Golden-brown chicken cutlets layered in a rich Marsala wine sauce, surrounded by earthy mushrooms and caramelized onions. On the side were creamy mashed potatoes with a bright lemon wedge and fresh herbs sprinkled over top. Vibrant sautéed greens added color and balance to the plate. The chicken was tender and perfectly cooked - juicy inside with a light crust that held up beautifully in the sauce. The Marsala sauce itself was outstanding. Deep, slightly sweet, earthy, and glossy. Not too thick. Not too salty. Just balanced and layered with flavor. The mushrooms were plentiful and meaty, adding real substance rather than just garnish. The mashed potatoes were smooth and buttery, and they soaked up that sauce perfectly. A little squeeze of lemon brightened the whole dish and kept it from feeling heavy. The sautéed greens were fresh and lightly dressed - a perfect contrast to the richness of the Marsala. What impressed me most was the execution. Even though it was early and the restaurant was still quiet, the dish felt like it was prepared with full care and attention - not rushed, not pre-staged, not sitting under heat lamps. By the time we were finishing, you could tell they were preparing for the evening rush. Reservations were coming in, tables were being set with precision, and the staff clearly had a well-organized plan for the night. Choosing the early reservation at 11:30 AM turned out to be a hidden advantage. It felt like a private Valentine's lunch in a beautifully prepared restaurant before the evening energy took over. Biaggi's delivered not just good food, but a calm, elegant experience on a day when many places feel chaotic. The Chicken Marsala alone is worth returning for. We'll absolutely be back - maybe next time for dinner when the room is glowing with full Valentine's energy.

Although I really miss the old location off of Hickman I still get over to Irina's now and then... I was the first to arrive and soon after the hostess had seated me Dmitri came over to say hello. It's always great to see him. Irina was under the weather and wasn't on site. I've gotten to know both well over the years and I really enjoy catching up with them both. He knows how I felt about the old location and I'm in my 50s now and don't always deal with change well. The current location is beautiful, and I'll get used to it, but I still miss that old wooden horseshoe bar and the more intimate feel. This visit was to see a friend who has since moved out of state (Tena). Our reservation was for eight at 800 PM on Friday evening. We went over our planned eight and Dmitri quickly helped expand our table to meet our needs. The first time I met Tena was actually in Irina's (the Hickman location) back in early March of 2021. I was in Irina's trying the poutine that had been added to the menu not long before that and Tena was there planning a birthday party. I recognized her from Facebook...along with a very big pink unicorn pinata she had recently purchased, I introduced myself, and I've been friends with her and her husband since then. As everyone arrived over the first few minutes our server was quick to take drink orders and we moved on to food once everyone had arrived. I started with an espresso martini. I don't think there was an introvert at the table so conversations flowed like efficient drink refills and if service was slow I'm not sure I would have noticed it. We ordered quite a few appetizers that were shared around the table. Bang bang shrimp, tuna tartare, calamari, philly cheese steak eggroll, and stacks of onion rings. I can't honestly say I can remember what everyone ordered for entrees. I had the almost famous lobster macaroni with a side of grilled asparagus and I know Tena had the Iowa farm pork chop that came with a glaze, garlic whipped potatoes, and brussel sprouts. I will say that I was expecting the normal lobster mac n cheese with chunks of lobster meat and I was pleasantly surprised when my bed of macaroni came out with a very nicely sized lobster tail perched on top. The lobster was cooked perfectly. The meat had already been separated from the tail so it was no muss no fuss. Her pork chop was a HUGE chunk of meat balanced on an end making it a can't miss focal point. Presentation at Irina's has always been something that is going to be really hard to beat anywhere else... Say what you want but they put out some picture perfect plates. We wrapped up after a couple of hours and said our "see you laters..." Goodbyes don't really seem to happen with this group. More like... Until next time! I think we all enjoyed the food, I know I did mine, but sometimes dinner is really more about the company you keep at your table. In a lot of ways Irina's can be as divisive. Mannnn... I've heard good and bad. But I can only judge on my personal experience. Yes...I know Irina and Dmitri, however when I go in they are not always on site and their staff doesn't know me from Adam. Maybe Daniel would recognize me... I've been a customer for well over ten years, I don't consider myself a regular though, and I've never been treated rudely or had a bad meal. In fact it's a business I take visitors to from out of town and one I recommend. Are there going to be off days? I'm sure there are. Like any other business in 2024 they sometimes face both staffing and distribution chain issues. Have I experienced slower than normal service there every now and then? Sure have. And I've had that at many other places too that I continue to go back to also... I've always found that easy to forgive for good food. I've written a couple reviews over the years and I've tried highly recommended places and I've went to places intentionally that received pretty bad write ups. The one thing I would always stress with anywhere... Reviews are subjective. Even mine. Don't let a couple of bad reviews, or something you hear, dissuade you from trying someplace new. No one else is writing your book. If someone is going to be the one putting your pen to your paper to tell your story... Let it be you! If you've been putting off a visit to Irina's go ahead and give it a chance... You might just really like it... I know I do! https://www.irinassteakandseafood.com/

We (my partner and I) each ordered the lobster bisque as a starter; lobster-stuffed prawns and…read morebacon -wrapped scallop were our entrees. The lobster bisque was average, over-salted for my taste but my partner thought it was perfect. My entree-the lobster-stuffed prawns- were disappointing. There was more stuffing than lobster, and both the lobster and prawns were overcooked, making them rubbery and tough to chew. My partner's scallops were adequately cooked, but the bacon 'wrap' was undercooked (bacon fat was not rendered enough) so that it was not able to be cut or consumed along with the scallop. Our server did a fine job and the ambience was nice. It's too bad the seafood was disappointing...maybe the steak menu items are prepared with more care? Unfortunately we will probably not be returning to try more of their menu.
