Let me start out by saying this was an amazing experience. The service at this place is top notch, Tucker our Gaucho and Jacoby were the most friendly and helpful staff members I've had the pleasure to know. They carry a great conversation and went out of their way to make sure we got everything we wanted. The food was top tier, it just keeps coming until until you surrender( for me I wait until I get the meat sweats!) The restaurant is warm ,clean, and welcoming. It was worth our 3 hour drive to get here and it definitely won't be the last! Keep up the good work!

Bring me the meats and that's exactly what they did!!!!!! Loss of a star for not having the sausage and Brazilian steak as listed as the menu. Other than that, we tried every meat on the menu. My favorite item was the mouth-watering grilled pineapple. The salad bar was underwhelming and not always stocked with all the options. The drinks were yummy and strong. Our server provided exceptional service and was very attentive.

Mmmmmm.... Their salad bar is fantastic! Lots of salads, side dishes (mashed potatoes, pasta, fried bananas etc.) Cheese bread was to die for. Fantastic! Service: 5 stars! But.... the main player is the meat... and... it was not great. Lots of meats was dry, and not tender. Over cooked too... :( You can ask for more rare cuts, and there are lots of options. And the grilled pineapple was delish!

Walked in. Nobody was there, then a MOUSE came from the kitchen area. Disgusting. Can't imagine the grossness in the kitchen

Service was slow. Our server let us sit at our table with a reservation for over 20 minutes before greeting us. Sides and salad bar was actually one of the best I've had from a Brazilian steakhouse. Lots of options besides salads. My favorites were the hot creamy pasta, black beans and rice. Fried bananas were not my favorite, personally. My first margarita from the bar was delicious, so was my husbands "Alex's old fashioned". Then we elected to order a second round of the same drinks because they were so good the first time, but they came out totally different and tasted awful. Had to have the waiter swap them out. Meats were very good. I would say I liked almost all of them. Even the chicken was moist. It did take them a while to come around with each of the meats so sometimes you were waiting with an open plate. They did not ask you how you would like your meat cooked (like I was used to from a Brazilian steakhouse) but most of the cuts were medium to well done. Workers and servers at this establishment are young. Very young. Maybe that's why the service wasn't the best. Food was good and hot. I wouldn't say this is the best Brazilian steakhouse but not bad for Iowa. Ambiance ranged from casual to dressy. Good for birthdays or family gatherings.

Some of the dishes from the salad bar. The chicken Stroganoff bottom left was delicious. The collard greens bottom right were also tasty.

It was my favorite dining companion's birthday dinner with her dad and myself. She decided on Brazil Terra Grill. We have had them on our list for quite some time, but had never gotten around to actually going there. We went on a Monday night, so the restaurant wasn't packed, which was actually really nice. Our server explained how everything worked, and away we went. We headed right for the salad bar first, before we began our carnivore journey. There is a LOT of variety on that salad bar. There are multiple cold salads such as potato salad and pasta salad. One side of the salad bar was dedicated to making your own conventional salad, and the other side had various salads, and one end had some hot dishes. The Chicken Stroganoff and the collard greens were the winners for me. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was very flavorful. The collard greens got a slightly different treatment compared to typical southern US preparations of them, but they were still very tasty. Onto the meat! Every few minutes one of the meat men as I called them, came by with some sort of delicious meat on a spit, along with a big knife. You indicated if you wanted the meat on display, and they carefully carved you some. There were various cuts of steak, pork, and chicken. There was even linguisa sausage, which made my favorite dining companion's father very happy. Linguisa is one of his favorites. Everything was beautifully cooked and well-seasoned. It wasn't long before we waved the white flag (or flipped the red totem, in this case), as we couldn't eat any more meat. Since it was her birthday, our server was kind enough to give us a generous slice of New York style cheesecake on the house. It was delicious. We made room for dessert, and it was worth it. Brazil Terra Grille isn't cheap, but if you're looking to eat your fill of a wide variety of tasty meals, along with a very respectable salad bar, look no further. We'll definitely be back, possibly on Friday or Saturday, as they have ribs those nights!

Oh you better run to Prime and Providence if you know what's good for you! (And if you like steak…read morehouses and have a couple hundred dollars to spend). We loved our first visit to this joint, let me tell you this is the best steak house I've been to across many states and with my steak house loving family who make it a point to visit all major chains and local spots. That this place is a solo, homegrown Des Moines steak house is incredible, and they are going toe to toe with the giants like Ruth Chris and Capital Grill. Our server was a cut above, pun intended, so knowledgeable and so accommodating. We ordered oysters, delicious bread, filet, t-bone, rainbow carrots and bacon creamed corn and we loved it all. No complaints, no notes. And don't think "why would anyone order carrots?" Because they transformed those colorful babies into a sweet, creamy delicacy you won't soon forget. We brought our own wine for a chunky corkage fee but my parents love wine so it was worth it to them (not me!) My dad accidentally ordered a $40 old fashioned because he picked the most expensive bourbon on the menu, so maybe ask the price before you order some of their more fancy concoctions. But like I said, bring a heavy wallet, an empty stomach and get ready to be blessed by the steakhouse gods in this gorgeous, classy environment.

It's polished and upscale, but it never feels snooty or overly formal. There's still a casualness to the place that makes it feel approachable, and I liked that right away. I was there for a work dinner, and the service was excellent. Our server, Chris, was dynamite--attentive, funny, and full of great recommendations. She gave us just the right amount of attention without hovering, which is harder to pull off than it sounds. I had the Chilean sea bass, which was cooked perfectly, tender inside with a really nice sear that gave it a crisp exterior. It was served over a creamy fondue that was just slightly lemony and complemented the fish really well. My coworker had the filet and absolutely loved it, saying it was literally one of the best steaks she's ever had. They grill their steaks over charcoal, and that char really came through not just on the filet, but also on the broccolini we ordered. The standout for me, though, was the creamed corn with crab. Big chunks of crab, sweet corn, a savory cream sauce and perfectly cooked pieces of bacon. It sounds like it should be heavy, but it really wasn't. Just incredibly flavorful, and probably my favorite thing we had all night. We finished with a dessert that had cinnamon ice cream, oats, crunchy bits and plenty of sweetness. I think it was called Jim's Oatmeal Something, which sounds vaguely like something you'd feed a horse, but it was actually delicious. Kind of like a really good cobbler without the fruit. Whatever it was called, I'd order it again. We had cocktails, and the total came to about $300 for two, so this is definitely a place for a special occasion or when you feel like splurging a little. But the food, service and atmosphere all delivered, and I'd definitely come back. I'm honestly surprised this is sitting at four stars on Yelp. Based on my experience, Prime & Providence is a five-star restaurant. If you want a really good meal in a place that feels special without making you feel like you need to wear a tuxedo and mind your manners, this is a great choice.

Being in a transitional phase his kitchen is useless so if we want to eat it's got to be in a restaurant. We've been everywhere so no clue how this gem snuck past us. I would put them next to any of the high end places downtown without a second thought. The ambiance is clean, casual and cozy - think Colorado log cabin. It's not a big place so I imagine you'll find long waits on weekends. If so, wait. Trust me. It wasn't crowded because we typically don't venture out until late but 3/4 of the tables were occupied and several people were at the bar. Even so, it was easy to carry on a conversation without needing to raise our voices. It's difficult to choose what to order because everything sounds great. We ordered chicken fried oyster mushrooms for an app and they set the tone for everything else. Perfectly breaded and seasoned with actual flavor being the stale oil taste of a lot of fried apps. I had the Lobster Mac and it was absolutely decadent. There was a generous amount of lobster and the pieces themselves were substantial. The blend of cheeses was perfect. For the side (which wasn't even necessary because the size of the Mac was more than big enough) I got the Boursin Mushroom Au Gratin. I can't think of a word that describes how delicious it was. Perfect creaminess, rich with a slight tang...it could have stood on its own. My fiancé ordered the Iowa Chop and we were both shocked at the size of it. Again (yawn) cooked just right, not even a hint of the dryness you see a lot with chops. The Creamed Brussels Sprouts were great but I had eaten myself sick at this point so I had to admit defeat. Portions were big enough that I had plenty in the take home container for a whole meal the next day. I wanted to try the amazing looking pie but needed to be able to fit through the door to go home. Next time for sure. Service was really good. The server was laid back and quick with recommendations that she could back up instead of the standard "I like it" you get. I was shocked at the reasonable prices. These days $20 for a mediocre burger is standard so I couldn't believe the quality of food for the price. Our running joke is that once a restaurant starts laminating their menus, the quality is about to tank so I'm keeping my fingers crossed theirs steer clear. It's independently owned by the same people that own Barntown Brewing a few doors down. We will definitely try that out based on our experience here. My only critique is that they serve Pepsi instead of Coke. Seems like DSM leans that way which breaks my heart. My southern roots and common sense keep me loyal to Coca Cola. Where I grew up when you order a Coke the server asks what kind of Coke because it's just what you call every soft drink. Go. Go tonight. You won't regret it.

We started our meals with a glass of beer, then ordered our dinners. Tonight, my wife opted for the Sweet Potato Gnocchi with grilled shrimp (see picture) - at our server Chelsea's suggestion (Chelsea was great). While I usually prefer trying different dishes vs. ordering what I've had before, it was Wednesday and I'm a sucker for specials...so again opted for Walleye Wednesday (see picture). While we both enjoyed both dishes after sharing tastes of each, the highlight of the meal was the Campfire Pie (that Chelsea recommended) along with a scoop of ice cream (at our neighbor's suggestion).
