It was OK overall. Staff was friendly enough and food was standard Filbertos for southern Arizona. I got a burrito for breakfast that wasn't a breakfast burrito. It was called an Arizona burrito which was steak, potatoes, and cheese. The place itself is standard Filbertos layout. Good to support a localish chain.

Prep & Pastry has a funky, grungy, offbeat charm that feels perfectly at home in Tucson. This is…read moreone of their two Tucson locations--the Campbell Avenue spot, with the other on Grant Road. It's a very casual place staffed by kind and welcoming students, and the food is genuinely good. The Smoked Salmon Beni stood out in the reviews, and it did not disappoint when I finally got to try it. I'll be attaching a photo, but it tasted every bit as good as it looked. I also noticed the shaved steak sandwich on the menu and in several Yelp photos, so I'll definitely have to come back and try that next. I really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, friendly service and overall character of the place.

These Pastries Should Probably Be Illegal…read more Prep & Pastry has been serving Tucson since 2014, and after eating here, I completely understand why they've built such a loyal following. This review is only about the pastries because the rest of their menu deserves an entirely separate review. The first thing I noticed was how incredibly light and airy everything was. Every bite felt fresh, fluffy, and perfectly balanced. The frosting wasn't overly sweet, and nothing tasted heavy or overwhelming. As I've gotten older, I've become much more conscious about what I eat. Surprisingly, these pastries never leave me with that "I shouldn't have done that" feeling. They're indulgent without being excessive. Now let's address the real issue... I always buy two. Not because I'm planning ahead. Because I know exactly what's going to happen if I don't. I'll eat one in the parking lot, sit there for a minute pretending I'm satisfied, then make what is almost certainly an illegal U-turn and head back inside for another. At this point, I believe the owners should stand trial in a savory Food Court of Law. Dun... Dun... "In the Criminal Food Justice System, pastry-based crimes are considered especially delicious. In Tucson, the dedicated foodies who investigate these sugary felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Pastry Unit. These are their stories." Prep & Pastry is guilty of making "I'll just have one" the biggest lie you'll tell yourself all week. Whether you're stopping by for breakfast, brunch, or simply because life is better with a great pastry, this place delivers. WIT Inspection Score: -- Truly Among the Best.

The house sambal is quite good, I used sparingly to add a lil pep. Plenty flavor in the chicken sausage party with pronounced herby basil that I really liked. @$15.50 would expect some browns ($4.5) or toast ($2.5).. alas prices these days guess quality ingredients like this relegates this as normal pricing :/ Yes a chain but locals employed and food this good is a good thing no matter what. I'm lovin' it! And quality ingredients and execution with espresso on the menu = Big Win, as so many sit-downs lack decent coffee let alone espresso to fulfill a complete meal well done. The line was really long, so we used the iPad they provide to place our order. We selected a matcha, but the iPad never gave us the option to choose between hot or iced. We assumed it would come iced, which is our mistake for assuming. When our order came out, the matcha was hot. We went inside and politely asked if there is any chance we could get it iced instead since there was no option on the iPad. The owner herself took the drink and remade it, which we appreciated, but her attitude toward us after was unnecessary. She told us that next time we should order directly with them because we just "wasted their cups" and so on. We apologized again and explained that we would have selected iced if the iPad had actually given us that option, but she didn't really acknowledge what we were saying. What made the experience more disappointing is that I work in coffee myself, so I understand what it's like when things get busy. I chose Barista Del Barrio out of all the coffee shops in the area specifically because I'm Latino and wanted to support a Latino-owned business. I even tipped when I placed the order on the iPad, so I was disappointed with how we were treated over something as simple as an ordering-system issue.
