This vineyard has a great atmosphere. Located in rolling hills - there is an inside tasting room and an outside tent area. We stopped on a busy Saturday afternoon to find a live band entertaining in the outside tent area. We tried a four tasting of their dry wines. Two reds and two whites. A beautiful family owned vineyard and winery located in Coloma Michigan. Founded by Zach Filkins of One Republic,he and his wife rebranded this winery in 2024 from Karma Vista to Filkins. As soon as you drive up to the tasting area you see fields on grape vines. The tasting room is beautifully decorated and we were greeted by Jan who was friendly and very knowledgeable. We opted to do a tasting flight of 4 two ounce pours so we could go outside and sit on the terrace overlooking the vineyards. The tasting room is open everyday but Tuesday but check their website for exact hours. They offer just about any type of wine variety but we really liked their reds. Their 2022 Anthos Red was amazing! Definitely a winery you want to visit when in Michigan ..less than 2 hrs away from Chicago. read more

My husband & I went to Filkins on Memorial Day weekend with our son & his girlfriend ( they have never been). The place was buzzing & has such a great energy. The owners are so welcoming & nice. The decor is like no other winery in Michigan. It is cozy, inviting, trendy & sexy. I highly recommend if you are doing a SW Michigan winery tour make Filkins your last stop. Easily making my list of top wineries in SW Michigan! This winery was previously Karma Vista but was recently bought out by Zach Filkins (OneRepublic lead guitarist) and his wife. The inside has some beautifully painted murals, large tasting counter, lounge seats, and a small merchandise area. The windows perfectly frame their vines to enjoy a good view while tasting. They have two tasting options: $16 for (4) 2oz pours or $14 for (6) 1oz pours. Our group decided to do the 6 tastings to try a better variety. There wasn't a bad wine we tasted! I also loved that they still had samplings of the old vineyard's wines to pay homage. The staff were incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable. ** Updated for new ownership*** When we learned that Karma Vista sold this spring, we were worried about what would happen. Change is hard, but if this first visit to the newly renamed Filkins Vineyards is any indication, I think the new owners are on the right track. The first thing a return visitor will notice is the seating has increased and improved. My brother described the previous seating as akin to an ice cream parlor. Now it's more like a chill but hip lounge. The walls are black except for a stunning mural. The chairs are mostly cozy red velvet lounge like chairs with low tables arranged for both small and large groups in the main area. Several merchandise tables were replaced with high tops in the tasting area. The place was super busy when we stopped with everyone indoors due to the weather, so the added seating ensured everyone could sit. And I appreciate that groups are no longer restricted to 6 people or under as that can be challenging for families like mine. I'm also excited that the outdoor space has more options. Picnic tables have been placed across the grounds and the back patio now has comfortable tables with umbrellas! The views are gorgeous, but it was hot out there during summer so this is a very welcome change. One of the best features of Karma Vista was the wonderful owners and staff, but I think the Filkins and family will carry on that legacy. Super friendly and great ideas for moving the winery forward. Right now they are selling through the remaining Karma Vista stock until their first batches are ready. They've brought in a new vitner from the Napa area but will continue to rely on the grapes from the vineyard. We're excited to see what they come up with. Change is hard, but I think the Filkins will do a wonderful job of carrying on the Karma Vista legacy while putting their own stamp on the operations. Review from 2023: My new favorite winery in Berrien County. Typically when I visit a Midwestern winery, I mention that at the start to set expectations. No need for that here- it stands on its own without caveats. Known for its bold reds, one sip will tell you why, but the roses and whites are good as well. We split several flights and enjoyed them with a Cheese plate on the deck overlooking their vineyard. The award winning 2020 Syrah was outstanding. I am not a wine snob, but seriously, slow down and experience this wine. Pause before you sip, swirl, sniff and then sip. Let it sit with you. This wine. Come here just for this wine. We tried at least 10 varieties (sharing flights) and not a bad one in the bunch. I would put the Rose up against many of my favorites. The Riesling has just a hint of sweetness, but cold it is a perfect summer wine. I can't say enough about the Cab Franc. The staff was super friendly and helpful in picking our wine If staying in Caloma, Watervliet, or St. Joe/Benton Harbor you must come here. I would advise stopping if your driving across Michigan on 94. just a mile or two south- so worth the visit. read more

Such a lovely winery! A lot of updates since Karma Vista. We went back last Sunday but after paying 15.00 for a glass of wine =30.00 for two! We had to leave. Since the township does not allow you to purchase a bottle of wine to drink there, I know the wine is delicious and I wish I could afford to pay that. read more

My 1st time visit was a disappointment. It was set up for a private event this past labor day weekend. They had local teens directing cars to parking spots. Teens had zero info for event. We parked and as we walked in were charged 10.00 per person. The winery was not open, they had picnic tables, tents and live music for what seemed like a Fundraiser. The band playing was good (local teens). Wine was sold at 10.00 per cup. Everyone seemed to know one another, not sure why they allowed the public to enter during what should have been a Private event. Wont be back, quite disappointed!! read more

My husband and I are from California and have been to wineries all over the world. My husband is an architect and has designed wineries....Mondavi and The Great Wall Winery in China. He was on the design team for Opus One in Napa. We came to visit family in Michigan and came wine tasting at this Karma Vista Winery. We arrived a little later than expected at 4:15. Last pour is at 4:30. Winery closes at 5. We purchased some tastings of 5 wines. When we asked for our 3rd pour at 4:35 we were told they weren't pouring any more. I mentioned to the owner I had 2 tastings left. He didn't believe me. I apologized and said I will get my receipt. I commented that 'it's not like Napa'. He said' We don't like them'. Of course you don't! The owner was very rude to me. He should take lessons in customer service! I was very disappointed in this experience. My husband and I recently went to visit Daou Winery in Paso Robles. We told the limo driver at the welcome center we didn't have a reservation. He called up to the winery and asked them to let us in. They took us in no problem. Great customer service! Very classy!!! Karma Vista should take lessons from them. I would never recommend Karma Vista winery. read more

Here's a point of view from someone who is local: This is the best winery in our area. Of course this is an opinion. But all the wines are great. The fifth star is awarded because they do a Sauvignon Blanc... One of the few vineyards able to cultivate that grape. Try the Fume Blanc if you like white wines. read more

We have been here several times and always try to stop here if we are in the area. We have come on a Sunday previously and were sad because we didn't know they were closed. We no longer make that mistake. We weren't going to do a tasting, as we have favorites that we always lean towards, which are Starry Night and Watusi Red. But we saw some news ones we wanted to try and found a new one we liked. Pink Side of the Moon which is a white and red blend. So, so good. The staff here are so friendly and extremely helpful. They were also really attentive during our wine tasting.  Their prices are extremely reasonable with our favorites being under $10 a bottle. The tastings were $5 for 5 and you get that back if you buy 6 bottles (no problem buying 6 bottles, lol) Still one of our favorite wineries after several years. read more

The tasting is a good deal, $5 for 5 tastes. I got 3 reds, a white and a rose`, I liked all of them. And their bottles were all pretty reasonably priced. While the people pouring the wine were all cool, the woman who was the host told us we they couldn't handle a big party at the bar, and that we couldn't take the wine to the tables, yet another big party came in after us and sat down at the tables with their wine. I don't know what the problem was, the pourers were still able to serve us all fine, and everyone else without any problems. I've seen other reviews mention the host as well. Aside from that, I did enjoy everything else, wine was real good, great views, and affordable prices. read more

We were a bachelorette party of 15 on a party bus. We were doing a wine tasting party bus afternoon. We got to Karma Vista and walked in, ready to taste wine and spend money. As we walked in, the woman behind the bar walked up to us and said, in a very snotty tone "We're sorry, we can't handle a 15-person party. We prude ourselves on small party wine tastings." I tired to point out that we were clearly three small parties of five, but they weren't having any of it. That's fine, I suppose. We'll take our money elsewhere. If they want to miss out on the business to be generated by fifteen tipsy women ready to buy wine and have a good time, that's on them. Not the business decision I would have made. read more

This is probably my favorite winery in southwest Michigan. The location is very pretty, the wines are pretty tasty (even if the names are a little silly), the tastings are usually administered by the owners (who are super helpful if you chat them up), and they have some other fun wine and cheese related things you can purchase as well. I am a little confused about calling their pours stingy- I have never noticed that to be a problem. I think they are pretty generous- Also, I am pretty sure you are getting a free taste of their wine... Not a glass of wine to enjoy for free. The pour is enough to determine whether or not you like the wine enough to purchase a bottle (or more!) If you like the sweeter things in life- I would suggest a bottle of Razzmatazz and the chocolate shot "glasses." Super delicious. read more

My friends and I did a small tour of the SW Michigan Wineries on Sunday. This was our first and by far our best winery of the tour. The view is awesome, I'd like to come back when the trees and vineyards are green, but also beautiful in the fall. The tasting was FREE unlike the others we hit up on Sunday. The woman we did our tasting with was extremely friendly and helpful. The store is very cute and full of neat wine accessories and glasses available to purchase. It was so hard to choose which bottle to buy, of course I wanted one of each but I knew we'd be visiting others so I had to limit myself to one bottle. It was very hard to choose between the Starry Starry White and the Watusi Red but Red won and I cannot wait to pop that sucker open! YES I will be back for more!!!! read more

Went on a Saturday with 8 other people. Beautiful building at the top of a hill. Went at the beginning of May so the grapes weren't growing yet, too bad, because the view would have been amazing. You walk in and the tasting/bar area is on the left, it was very large and nice looking. In front of the entrance and to the right are cute little wine gifts and trinkets. Tastings are free with a maximum of 6 tastings a person. At first the pours seem stingy, but all wine tasting pours are that small. If you just sip to get the flavor, it's enough of a pour. The owner served us, he was very very nice and informative and offered great selections. I prefer sweeter wines myself and we bought 4 bottles - Watusi Red, Starry Starry White, the Cherry wine, and also the Razz m Tazz (yummy!!!). Everything was very reasonably priced - an average of probably $10/bottle. Not bad for wine from a local vineyard "freshly" made! They have a nice deal - buy 12 bottles and get 10% off your order. They let us combine our purchase with the other people in our party on separate checks - very accomodating! We visited Contessa just down the road and thought Karma Vista was much better (service, wine quality, wine selection and prices) read more

An excellent winery, serving a nice selection of reds, whites and fruit wine. We did a tasting and ended up buying a bottle of Pinot and Syrah to take home. The wines all had cute rock music-related names like Gunzan Rosé and Stone Temple Pinot. We found the staff very friendly and the sommelier very knowledgeable of his wines. He was able to recall the weather conditions of the various years with ease, and explained how that affected the taste of each wine, and was great at guiding us toward tasting choices. Overall our favorite winery of our travels this week. Highly recommended. read more

My husband and I went here last weekend as our first stop of a winery tour. These were by far our favorite wines of the day. I am very disappointed that we did not buy any bottles. (We would have if we were not going out to dinner and wondering around St. Joseph afterwards; we didn't want to have to carry bottles around with us.) However, we are planning to take a trip up to the area so we can buy some! One of the things that I really enjoyed was the fact that the owner of the vineyard was back behind the counter talking to our group and letting us know about each wine, the vineyard history, etc. The guy that was doing our pours was (I think) very new. He had to get a couple pointers/instructions from the other individuals pouring, but he was very friendly - hey, you have to start somewhere, right!? We went to this new vineyard over in Michigan and really enjoyed our tasting. The white wines here are quite good, and a few of the reds are OK. I really never understood why these cold temperature vineyards here in the Midwest have not adopted the Zweigelt grape (red, dry, like Pinot Noir) developed in Austria which is pretty good at growing in colder climates. The micro-climate of Coloma, MI would be good for this grape. We brought our own cheese and crackers, and after trying several of the wines bought a few glasses and sat on the patio and enjoyed the view of the rolling hills of Southeastern Michigan. We packed a few bottles of white wines and a bottle of Cabernet Funk (good) and drove back to Chicago. Well worth it if you are staying in the Michigan shore area. read more
