Overpriced and not worth it. My husband and I ordered a kids' meal (comes with side and drink) and two pulled pork sandwiches, two sides, and two drinks for ourselves. There are no adult combos unless it's the special of the day. We paid over $30 for this. The service was great but the food was terrible. Fries were good. The bottom bun was wet and disintegrating by the time it arrived and we were the first customers of the day. The pork was really wet and tasted like it had been cooked in a crockpot. It also had an unidentifiable flavor that wasn't very BBQ-y or tasty. The sandwich was too moist to be picked up and eaten so we attempted to just eat with a fork but couldn't get past the weird flavor or wet texture if the meat. Went with my family and we each ordered different items so got a good selection of the menu. Kids meals are priced well and serving sizes are great for them. My husband had the two meat sandwich and really liked the hot BBQ sauce. My son said his fries were extremely salty and couldn't eat them. Great little "off the beaten path" bbq place. Great setup in an old gas station with creative period decor and much cleaner dining area than most, if a bit small. Menu was predictable bbq with a few stand-off exceptions. Out with friends in Lee's Summit and convinced them to try something there local rather than trekking back to op and going to Joes KC or Jack Stack. Glad I did. Much more casual than both and food was a solid B. Anywhere else it would probably be an A-, but KC has some amazing bbq. Burnt ends were a C-, pulled pork, chicken and sausage were all A-/B+. Fries were crispy and fresh but lacking a little extra seasoning for my taste. Notable stand-out exception was the FRIED PICKLES which were unanimously voted the best any of us had ever eaten. Ever. Seriously I would go back for the fried pickles alone. They are that good. Served in Spears instead of chips, fresh, crunchy and delicious. Good news is I didn't get voted out of our group for suggesting this - everyone enjoyed the mea abs would go back. Only notes - one, they are pretty slow. Like unable to multitask slow. Like take an order and not take the next order until the first is half prepped slow . The food was fresh and worth the wait though. Two, be aware that the dining room is small and if they are busy it might be tough to accommodate a larger group. If it is cold outside , the dining room cools off whenever the door opens. I'm not sure what happened to this place. As much as I used to love their bbq, my last experience was the worst. I ordered a slab of ribs and I was very disappointed. For two people the price was $35.xx for Burnt ends with French fries and 1/2 Chicken dinner with Cole slaw and onion rings. Chicken was great. BBQ sauce was wonderful. Burnt ends were burnt and dry. Onion rings were over fried and burned and falling apart. This food was extremely over priced for a fast food restaurant. After a $2.00 tip when ordering we found the food was not worth the money. We had burnt ends which were fair although almost all of the flavor came from the bbq sauce put on them. I had a roast beef sandwich was NOT EDIBLE (I had to throw away my sandwich). The beef tasted as it was cooked in an oven and not smoked, and it was very tough. And we watched as everything was put into a microwave before being served ! Okay, first off they are now open every day from 11 am to 8 pm. We found this gem when we went looking for ribs and what we found were the most delicious spare ribs we've ever had!! Don't bother with the baby backs, not worth the money. The time before last I went to pick up some yummy spare ribs, 2 slabs, which cost almost 50 dollars. Spend the money people, I'm telling ya. Anyway, they didn't tell me they had an order for spare ribs for 165 people that morning and were out. Instead the cook sent me out 2 slabs of baby backs (they were small and nothing to get excited about). I told the waitress that was not right and she said she would get her trouble shooter to come talk to me. Well, the trouble shooter turned out to be the owner or at least one of the owners. Very, very nice guy. He told me to take the baby backs and he would also refund all of my money as long as I promised to come back.. No problem! I said in that case I would buy some beans too and got in line to order. He got me a big ol' cup of beans, handed them to me, looked me square in the eye and very sincerely said "come back". Which I did the very next day and got the spare ribs I was craving! Yummo!! I thought about giving themt a 4 instead of a 5 due to the baby backs not being tender or that good but just couldn't do it after the experience with the owner, There is someone who really cares about his customers and his business! Hubs and I discovered this cute little place several years ago and always enjoyed the food plus the funky former gasoline station building which has been spiffed up only a little bit and has old tin signage and period auto related pictures on all the walls. Today Daughter #1 and I made a trip to Lee's Summit and she said she was really craving some BBQ, did I know of any place close? I said "Sure, over on Douglas about a block or two east of 3rd Street". That's how we ended up at Filling Station BBQ. Just walking into the place, you know from the mouth watering smells that good stuff is going on in the kitchen. Friendly staff will welcome you and help you with the straight forward menu. I suppose that some people have an appetite big enough to order the large sandwich, but believe me when I say that the regular, served on a normal size bun is an extremely generous portion of meat stacked so full that slices were falling out the sides of the sandwich. Dear Daughter got the beef and I ordered the 2 meat with beef and sausage. We decided to get the "platter" which adds one side and a drink for $2.50 more. I enjoyed my baked beans and DD said the potato salad was good, too. They also have hand-breaded crispy onion rings that turned out to be VERY tasty and we shared one order between us along with all our other food. The meats are served dry with sauces served on the side in a cup. Sauce can be ordered in mild, medium and hot. I played it safe by getting medium and it was a sweet, smoky flavor with just a tiny hint of heat. My beef was tender with a fine BBQ flavor and the sausage was yummy Italian done to a fine turn. Since Raytown has an excellent local BBQ place, we don't get out to Filling Station as often as we once did, but this visit reminded me of what I like about this place. Hubby and I will have to make a visit soon, next time we find ourselves in Lee's Summit. It's sure worth the drive. read more

Why 1 star rating? Well, my wife are from Oregon and several years ago we were introduced to this place by a relative living in the KC area. We liked everything so much, including the BBQ sauce, that we ended up buying several jars of the sauce to have back home. We recently finished the last jar we had so on our way east to visit friends we decided to make a detour and pick up some more sauce. Well....I'm very sad to say this place is now under new owners and they longer neither have the same sauce recipe nor do the new owners have any plans to continue selling BBQ sauce in jars. So, I don't think I will be back unless things change per future reviews here on Yelp and/or other places. read more

Filling Station in Lee's Summit is a great bbq spot.... I work in L.S. and go there often for lunch. They have great deals all through the week and a great amount to choose from on the menu. Sauces are pretty good, especially the hot with habanero in it :) if your in the area I would defenitely stop in and grab a bite. read more

Ordered the burnt ends, whole chicken and brisket. Burn ends were ok, chicken was dry and the brisket was cold. I ordered it to go, I live like 5 minutes away so no excuse for the brisket being cold. Too many BBQ places around to not stay up to par with the competition. read more

I have been back 3 different times since last review. Apparently ownership has changed. I like the new fries, hand cut, I'm pretty sure. However fries tend to be soggy, lucky for them I don't like crispy fries. The sandwich's could use some work. The buns are not toasted and are soggy. I phoned in a carry out order after reviewing the menu on the website. When I arrived I was waiting for the order to be bagged and looked at the menu. I made a comment that the menu price was much higher than on the website. She said she knows and doesn't know why they don't change it. She also said that the prices were higher than the menu I was looking at at the counter. My total was $12 more than I expected. I said I would not have ordered the extra ribs if I had known. seriously love this place. The Carolina style pulled pork sandwich is just awesome. and HUGE! The ambiance is something. We typically only go when we have out of town guests because the place is such a hit with everyone we bring. The BBQ is very good. They think a lot of themselves to charge more than some of the best BBQ places around here (Summit hickory pit, joes BBQ, brobecks, etc). Ribtip sandwich seasoned weird and meat was ground up, grainy texture and dry. Regular sauce tests like tomato sauce. Beans, eh. Fries, good. We really enjoy the food and the prices here for the most part (the fries could use about 1/2 the salt). However, the night staff seems to like to close early. We have went out of our way twice in the last few weeks to come here and both times they were already closed even though the sign states open till 9:00 and we were there at 8:30 or before both times. With all the bbq choices in KC, The Filling Station has its place. It's not the best place in KC, but it does fill your needs if you're in Lee's Summit. It's located in downtown which is nice but parking and seating can be a problem. I've never walked away unsatisfied with the food, service, or experience. I'd recommend but don't expect to be blown away. read more

It should be 3 1/2 stars. Every thing is good here. The ribs aren't as good as Oklahoma Joe's but the brisket is better.

This is one of KC's best kept BBQ secrets. I have tried numerous local and chain BBQ restaurants in the KC metro and The Filling Station most certainly has an edge. Their BBQ sauce comes in three different flavors - mild, medium, and hot. All three are exceptional! We actually purchased a few bottles as stocking stuffers for our out-of-town family members. Their meats (chicken, ribs, pulled pork, turkey, and brisket) are all amazing! It is always a tough choice to decide on which meat to choose as they are all fantastic. Their sides are quite delish as well. Their beans are the BEST beans I have ever had from a BBQ joint. Also, their coleslaw is phenomenal. Coming from someone that doesn't care for coleslaw, this is quite the compliment. Of course, their onion rings and fried pickles are a delightful fried treat.
