This place is very out of the way in south Wyandotte county, making it a destination restaurant for most metro residents, but unfortunately it doesn't live up to being destination worthy. The "Burnt Ends" were nothing more than chopped up roast and brisket that is stewed in bbq sauce. The sauce was neither sweet nor spicy. The fries are large steak fries and the baked beans were good enough that I would re-order them, but they still do not stand out as a signature side dish. The building is very generic and outdated with zero personality, inside and out. My waitress was friendly and efficient but that's about the best I can say about the experience. This place represents the quantity of BBQ joints in this town, not the quality.

My "small BBQ platter" with brisket, two ribs, two sides, bread, and a pickle was reasonably priced at $11.99. The portion sizes were generous, and the ribs had plenty of tasty, fall off the bone meat. I liked the crunchy, creamy, chilled cole slaw and the brown sugar (?) flavored baked beans. The brisket was flavorful, and plentiful, but could have been leaner. The dining area was clean and well lighted with TVs, and the service was friendly, attentive, and fast (my meal was ready in about six minutes), but the TVs were off, and there was no background music. I'm thinking 3.5 stars and rounding up for the good value. Nice!

A delicious turkey sandwich.

Big Q is the best BBQ in town. The sauce is delicious and with just a little heat. Big Q is our first stop after leaving the airport and our last stop on the way to the airport. I love the turkey sandwich and a small order of regular french fries. I never leave hungry!

This is there pulled pork. Yes, they do not pull their pork they cut them into little pieces which is not pulled pork.

I was hoping for so much more. The friend food was amazing the highlight of the food that was ordered. My wife and I order the pulled pork dinner but it was like nothing we have ever had before. It was like rib tips and not pulled pork. It was cut up into small peaces which was unexpected. After eating the meal both my wife and I started having stomach issues. It was just like a sharp pain in our stomachs.

Fabulous food. Good portions. Nice staff. Clean building. Big TVs to watch sports on. Quiet.

The roadside sign out front decided my order for me. The Rib Tips are on special every day. What an awesome pile of food I got. The nuclear red barbeque sauce was AWESOME! It had flavor, it had heat, it dared to defy the purgatory of sweetness that has defined KC BBQ. I ate all of mine and finished what my significant other couldn't. The sauce was hot enough that I paid for it the next day, but that's how I roll! It is a mom and pop operation for sure. The owner was born and raised right here in Kansas City. It is a no frills place. Come here and expect good food...period! Writing this review made me hungry. I think I may head up to Big Q!

New Tenderloin. And its GOOD!

Love Big Q. Friendly staff. Good BBq. Love it. They just added a Tenderloin sandwich and it's big, and good..

the gargantuan Kansas City Pork-on-Pork, available on request. This alone warrants a visit to this restaurant!

To me it's kind of pricey for what you get. The taste is good. Doesn't seem to be many people there.

Ribs and sauce all good. Would go again. Yelps review was accurate. The sauce had a peppery flavor.

We were on a tight drive from Ft. Scott to MCI and had one mission: find true Kansas City-style BBQ…read more-- smoky, not swimming in sauce. Slap's delivered. I ordered the brisket combo with a quarter chicken leg, cheesy corn, and baked potato casserole. My partner went with the brisket sandwich. We grabbed it to go in a hurry... and forgot plastic utensils. Crisis? Maybe. Regret? None. The brisket was perfection -- tender, beautifully smoked, with bark that had just the right texture. The chicken was outstanding too: lightly sauced, deeply flavored, juicy all the way through. Every bite tasted intentional. Even eating it on the go, slightly improvised utensil situation and all, this was some of the best Kansas City BBQ we've had. Would absolutely come back -- preferably with forks next time.

Got a sampler platter w/ cheesy corn and potato casserole and added burnt ends + ribs to go since I'm traveling with my 2 kitties. Everything was just... bland, especially the brisket and burnt ends. Very surprised the bbq place is so popular when the food is just meh. Was also surprised how cheap the online prices were and turns out, the prices aren't updated. The outdoor seating looks nice, and the staff were friendly, but I would not come back.

For the sides the coleslaw was very refreshing and crunchy, the baked beans had so much flavor depth and the potato salad had the perfect amount of texture. The only thing left to be desired was the jalapeño cornbread it was a bit lackluster and didn't taste much of any jalapeño, the honey butter could've used more honey and a pinch of flaky sea salt. Over all I would give it 8.5/10. Side note: service was wonderful, everyone was very friendly and accommodating

I know they had some unplanned renovations. I had been wanting to get out there in support since hearing that. The portions here are always big. While KC is known for their tomato based sauce AB's is known for their pork ribs and molasses based sauce. While Oak is popular in Texas, Hickory is the main wood used here to pair that sweetness with the molasses with a little oak to finish. As one of the most popular/famous BBQ joints in the area and maybe the country the line can be long at times, but generally not time consuming of a wait. Like alot of the big boys they have a great system of cooking and serving. Service is somewhere between big ticket and owner operated. Decor is still gas station with a smoke house, but they have some massive roittiserrie smokers using blast cyclinder design for efficiency. Their ribs are meaty, nice sweet bark, spicy sweet sauce, mellow oqk flavor. The open faced burnt ends are less candy and more charred nuggets, juicy, less unctuous as they grill it to finish. I found their turkey a little dry, could use a longer brine or even better twined to keep tight as the fibers tore too much on cutting making it shredded/shaved rather than sliced. Great sausage, thought I'd have liked some creativity as the smoke doesn't really accentuate it as much as it could if they had other flavors. I still prefer the Texas style brisket as the bark is more pronounced. They even have chicken tenders for the kids which are deep fried, a little overseasoned for kids (yes I had to try it). Baked beans were sweet, thick, rich on the molasses and smoke, but at this point its a bean jam and a little rich. Dirty rice which i thought was a southern thing was fluffy, aromatic, umami, a true side dish. Potato salad was a little dry, potatos were sized all over the place so some were overcooked and some closer to raw. Go casserole next time or get the cheesey corn, but you can't do both, it's too much. The onion rings were crunchy and sweet and went with their sauce amazing. The fries aren't an afterthought and complimentary to their other non brisket/ribs items. Prices are avctually below average, service is quite good, but to me being an OG it really has changed under the new management. I'm not sure i'll need to come here again as this was my 2nd trip here and i'm not sure it's a must eat place anymore. After all the BBQ tours I've done I really do prefer Texas and SC styles and have found other KCBBQ spots that give a better representation of KCBBQ.

I almost rated this a 1 star. When I arrived, the place was nice and the young man handling front of house was amazing. I ordered a 3 meat plate to go as I had to be home for an appointment. I rushed inside, mouth watering, opened my box. Turkey looked good, pork belly looked good, the brisket... Straight TRASH. It wasn't even sliced. It looked like they scooped up the stringy bits left over from slicing and called it good. Needless to say I was pissed. The turkey was a hair dry, but flavorful. The pork belly burnt ends were good too. The brisket, which is king in KC que, ruined the whole, thing for me. The way the brisket was served, and it was dry of course, made me feel like they just thought "he's getting it to go, so who cares what he gets." Now as many of you who follow me know, I usually give a place a second chance and hope the experience is better the next time. Not this time. I was deeply insulted at what I got for my money. I may as well have gotten a Banquet TV dinner. Everything else seemed on point, but the star of the show was trash, it ruined the whole thing. So no, I will not be going back and this will NOT be on my list of reccomemds I often mention to people who travel to Kansa City. I truly wasted my money. Avoid this joint. There are MUCH better in the city.
