Went to have lunch yesterday for the first time at the Filling Station and wow! We were waited on by Bonnie, who was absolutely fantastic and the food was awesome. I ordered the special of the day, a Hot Port Sandwich, and my girlfriend had the Chicken Salad with fries. All was fresh and cooked just right. I recommend this as a must stop! read more

Went to eat at the Filling Station last Saturday. We missed the breakfast menu by about 30 minutes, but had lunch there. My husband couldn't stop raving about his cheeseburger and my Philly steak sandwich and fries was so delicious. I also had a piece of their blackberry pie and it was to die for. Went to Bishop Hill for a quilt show and saw this cute little place so decided to stop in for lunch after viewing the quilts. You know a place is good when it's hopping like this place, and with mostly locals to boot. Just to be 100% transparent though, it was the sign advertising "homemade pie" that pulled me into the restaurant. Had the pattie melt and a slice of peach pie. They were both good, the pie was homemade and the crust was almost as good as my granny's. The service and prices are nice too! read more

Unfortunately, this is not a great review and I wish I didn't need to post this but it's accurate. My parents go to lunch at the Filling Station 3-4 times every week. It's their favorite place. The other day my parents, my wife, my two daughters and my daughter's boyfriend went for lunch. My daughter went in to the restaurant early to buy a gift certificate for my parents for the holidays. The wait staff did not realize that my daughter was with my parents. Here's the sad part - when my parents were getting out of the car the wait staff started talking bad about them and arguing who was going to have to wait on them this particular day. I know my parents well enough to know they don't deserve that type of treatment. My daughter started crying and went outside because she was upset at what she was hearing. My wife came back in after lunch to address the situation with the owner and staff at which point they denied everything. Complete crap. I also called the owner the next day to address the situation and she completely denied everything. At least take ownership Of the mistake and apologize. Complete lack of class!! My question to the owner was " so do you want to break my parents' hearts and tell them you guys make fun of them when they come to lunch or do I need to do that??" Complete BS!! read more

Went to this old town where settlers came from Sweden to America. This town is where they would get their start. Found this nice restaurant near the fire station. The owner will give you a hug if needed. The breakfast menu is fun. Two options with meat and without. Build your own with eggs pancakes hash browns and they even have essence if bacon!!!! The Lipton hot tea is to die for. Daily specials are fair priced and huge helpings. Plenty to fill you up. Many dessert option including old time recipes like bread pudding and rice pudding. Hamburgers are high quality beef and grilled up just right. Best place around if you want to eat among locals and friends. Make sure to tip your wait staff well. Went here during Pandemic on a holiday weekend. The Swedish Pancakes were amazing. Got 2 of the best sausage patties I've had in Illinois hands down. Rolled the patty in the pancake for the most mouth watering pig in a blanket in my life. Must stop in here if within a 150 miles. Went back Sunday morning for seconds. Thank you ladies!! read more

This place is amazing! We came in late one afternoon and didn't know they were cash only, asked for a couple coffees and they just ran out. Luckily these people are so nice they put on a fresh pot just for us and gave us coffees for free because we only had cards. We came back the next day and gave them a big tip and paid for the coffees they gave us for free. Would come back here any day of the week! Food and service alike were outstanding. read more

Its a small place and on a Sunday morning at 9 am in October was no problem getting a table - seat yourself. You have 2 options for breakfast - with or without meat. That means you can mix and match the handful of items they cook for one price. Hot beverages are only 1dollar. Choice of Swedish pancakes, French toast, eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, sausage, ham. I opted for the pancakes (similar to crepes) with lingonberries. You can also specify how many you want - suggested # was 2. These were fairly tasty but the syrup is 'fake' not maple. But my side of bacon was not good - so thin you could see through it. I refer to this as 'essence of bacon' like so many motels offer at their included breakfasts. My hot tea was just basic Lipton. My hubby had the eggs, sasuage, hashbrown option. Eggs and sausage decent - a little spicy eat to the sausage, but the potatoes could have used more crisping. Service is rather indifferent here. The deck is where it's at in the summer. I mean, I was only there in the summer so I guess I am speculating. Anyway, the coffee is reminiscent of brown river water. The service is surly. I love it. The breakfast sausage was delicious and on point. You get eggs however the chef feels like cooking it for you I was told. Priceless. read more
