Shrimp stuffed with crab special Very good

Great BYOB seafood restaurant. Always pretty consistent food and always very good. I like that they continue to change the menu slightly while keeping some of their regular dishes.

We were looking for a location to celebrate after my Daughter's graduation. She wanted Oysters. So this place came up in our search. It had good reviews so we took a chance. We were not disappointed. The oysters were fresh. All our plates were delicious. Everyone finished their food. We were 11 people and the service was excellent. It was during the day and it was not crowded. Many of us have intentions of returning. It is BYOB. There is street parking or a parking deck behind the restaurant that is not expensive.

Came on a weeknight and the restaurant was pretty full. There is close seating inside with a variety of options available. Service was fast and friendly. They allowed us to order a bottle of wine from the store next door (BYOB) and went out to get it! Swordfish - Delicious, soft, not too salty, goes well with the salad Overall, I recommend coming for seafood at least once! I will be back!

This has been on my radar, and it was exceptional. I Started with the octopus which was very well cooked and not too rubbery and then my salmon was a nice medium rare. The pineapple rice added much needed acidity that usually comes from something like a lemon and was a very nice pairing with the salmon. Service started off a bit slow, but once they got going it was great. Not too invasive but as attentive as I'd hope for. I'd definitely come back. Overall 4.7/5

Service here is great. No issue with our waitress. The place is small so you'll be sitting very close to someone if it's a weekend. The lady next to me hit me with her coat as she put it on. You're that close. The menu appears nice but the food lacked flavor. The crab cake appetizer I had was okay. Crab cake is small. I had the scallops special as an entree. It was supposed to have garlic spinach with corn and crab salsa. It was sooo bland. I didn't taste any garlic. The crab was flavorless. I don't plan on ever returning here. My bf had oysters that he enjoyed but he didn't realize a dozen was going to be 40 bucks since there isn't a price on the online menu they have you order from. He had a fish dish for dinner that he felt could have used more salt. Overall we paid 170 for dinner and I felt like it wasn't worth it at all.

Got the soupy rice dish (forget the name) with shrimp. SO satisfying! They offer complimentary soup ahead of your entree, along with bread. It was hard not to overeat! Huge portions too, btw. Very generous. Sat at the bar. Bartender was hard working, serving all the customers who were sitting at the bar as well as keeping up with bar needs. Very friendly. Looks like the place can get busy for dinner so probably best to make reservations.

I'm not sure if it was because it was midweek or if the chef was simply off his game on this night, but the experience was disappointing overall. The first thing I noticed when I sat down was that my knife was dirty. I ended up taking another knife from a different table. The ambiance, as always, was wonderful, and there were only two other tables occupied, so the restaurant was not busy at all. They started us off with soup, and it was chicken noodle soup. I was honestly very disappointed. When I go to a Spanish restaurant, especially one like this, I expect something traditional like caldo gallego or a similar house soup -- not chicken noodle soup that I could easily make at home. For appetizers, we ordered shrimp in garlic sauce and calamari. Both were absolutely delicious and honestly the highlight of the meal. We also had to ask the waiter for bread, and when it finally arrived, we were each given one very small roll. Our main entrées were sautéed tilapia and shrimp in lemon sauce with mashed potatoes and string beans, and breaded veal cutlet Milanese with mushrooms in a wine and brandy sauce over mashed potatoes. Unfortunately, neither entrée stood out the way meals here usually do. The tilapia was sitting on a bed of mashed potatoes and absolutely swimming in lemon sauce. There was so much sauce that it completely soaked the mashed potatoes and vegetables. I could only eat the top portion of the fish. My husband also mentioned that his breaded veal was very oily. The waiter never returned to ask if we wanted anything else to drink. The water had no ice and felt warm. We also had to ask for additional bread. I'm used to bread being left at the table, not rationed piece by piece. When the waiter asked if we enjoyed our meal, I politely explained that I did not care for mine and why, especially since most of it was left untouched. He looked at me like I had ten heads. I truly hate writing this because this restaurant has been one of my favorites for years, but this visit just did not live up to the standard I've come to expect.

Service was slow on that regard with water and checking. Seafood is good, though- the salmon crudo was ok (blood orange highlight), the oysters broiled with miso-garlic - virtually no miso flavor. The seared octopus, though, a great dish with highlights on the beans offsetting the rich flavor of the octopus and sausage crumbs. Dinner was tilefish, excellent balance (although some bites were very salty). Apple crostada at dessert was a good version of a warm apple turnover with an open center served with ice cream which I enjoyed. Lupa is located in a section of Berkely Heights that has seen a lot of recent construction, so it is very pretty and clean. You couldn't be blamed if you bypassed the restaurant. It is not very flashy looking and that is part of its charm. Be warned, there are not a lot of parking spaces behind the restaurant so you may wind up parking in the bank parking lot next to it (when the bank is closed of course). The staff at Lupa is super friendly and treats you like a regular even if this is your first time. The host was super nice, the waitress fantastic and the chef even came to our table to talk to us when we were done eating! The interior is very clean and modern looking. It's elegant and perfect for virtually any event including dates, anniversaries and family get togethers. We wound up sitting in the same area as the bar, which mostly has 2-4 seater tables and of course you can sit at the bar as well. The other side of the restaurant is where the larger tables are located. Here's a rundown of what we had: CLAMS ON TOAST Baby clams. crispy ham. thyme When I ordered this, I expected to see slices of toast with crispy ham and baby clams on top. Instead, it is two large pieces of wonderfully toasted bread with crispy ham on top. The actual clams sit in a *delicious* broth. Taken altogether these various components form a delicious bite. Be sure to dip that bread into the broth! SQUID INK SPAGHETTI lobster knuckles and claws. broccoli florets. grape tomatoes. Sherry Cream Sauce This dish has a wonderfully deep and earthy flavor. I've had squid ink pasta before and this was a wonderful example of it. The sauce was perfect and it was cooked beautifully. HANGER STEAK Truffled pomme frites. Chimichurri The steak was beautifully cooked (we had it medium rare) and the chimichurri sauce was great. However, the steak needed a bit more salt (and I'm not usually one to add salt to food). The pomme frites were wonderfully crispy and tasty. BROCCOLI RABE lemon. Kilos Broccoli rabe is a simple side dish but it is one of my favorites. It is also one that can easily be overcooked. These folks cooked it perfectly and it made for a fantastic side dish. My party and I loved our experience at Lupa and we all agreed we would happily return any time!
